Nolan was motionless for so long, Rhia was beginning to think he had changed his mind. She felt her body deflate and she broke their eye contact. She stared at his bare chest, trying to think of what to say. She probably should have figured out what to do if he did say no.

After a minute she finally had the nerves to look back up. Before she could say anything, he took her mouth in a deep kiss. She instantly reacted, unable to stop herself from kissing back and pulling him closer. She opened for him and moaned into his kiss. Gently, he rolled so he hovered completely over her, pressing just enough of his weight against her for her to feel his power over her. His hands roamed around the back of her dress and pulled down the zipper.

More than willing, she sat up to pull the fabric off and wasted no time in shedding the bra and underwear. Nolan sat back on his knees, watching her hungrily until she was settled under him again. She reached up to hold him again, but he took her wrists in his hands. He kissed the delicate skin of her wrist. Her eyes fluttered as he slowly, deliberately raised her hands over head and pinned her down. "Are you sure you want this?" he asked seriously. "I could hurt you."

She gave him a wicked smile that stirred that primal need in him to claim her. She wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled her hips up to rub sensually against him. His groan turned into a feral snarl as he hardened against her, only encouraging her actions. His grip on her tightened and kissed her hard. He pulled out the cuffs from the side table and bound her wrists to the headboard. Chills raced down her whole body, goosebumps rippling across her skin. Her legs tightened around him.

He tsked and pulled her thighs away gently. "Remember what I said, pet." He slid back on the bed to tie down one ankle. "My way. Understand?"

"Yes." She licked her lips excitedly and felt a thrill as his eyes flared red.

She hoped he would get back on top of her and kiss her again. Instead, he pulled away and walked back to the bedside table, his fingers lightly trailing up her body. They paused at her throat just over her pulse. His breath turned into a rattling hiss. "You don't smell like any other human I've ever met." He breathed.

"Alright, Edward." She winked up at him.

He rolled his eyes. "I'm serious." He scolded. "I had to throw out the blood I drew to test for you brother. I couldn't take the chance that you smelled as good to the other vampires as you did to me. Do you know how long it's been since I've lost control?"

"I have a hard time believing there was ever a time you weren't in control." She purred.

He chuckled and pulled out a blindfold from the drawer. Stretched it over her head, casting her into darkness. The clicker was placed in her hand. "I want you to focus on what you feel." He whispered, mounting the bed again pressing his lips to her throat.

It was already working. Without her sight, the rest of her senses went on high alert. His hot breath tickled her skin and his mouth left a line of fire down her neck. He nudged her legs apart and settled between them. He kissed down to her collar bone and ran his tongue along the protruding ridge. She let out a guttural moan and arched her back. A hand trailed to her breast, rolling a nipple between his thumb and forefinger. The other hand trailed down her stomach and between her legs. "Vampire venom is much more than the euphoric high everyone thinks of." He breathed, kissing her other breast.

He slid a finger into her core. She gasped and tried to lift herself into him with her free foot. Effortlessly he kept her down and pumped gently, teasing her. "It is a miracle drug."

He kissed down her sternum. His thumb pressed into her clit.

"A magical cure-all."

He licked past her navel. She threw her head back against the pillows and tugged uselessly at the bindings.

"It is the host of the ultimate virus."

His voice was as intoxicating as his touch, drawing her into his spell.

"It wants to spread to whoever it can."

He kissed the inside of her thigh. Lightning bolts of pure pleasure shot through her where his lips made contact.

"You will want to bite back. To trigger the transformation."

He added a second finger and increased his pace. She started to thrash wildly against the ties. It was more intense than anything she had ever felt before.

"There is going to be a part of you that won't feel like you're experiencing the full affects without my blood."

"Nolan," she gasped. "I won't. I promise. Fuck, I'm going to-"

She was cut off by her own scream, an intense orgasm crashing through her. The ringing in her ears subsided and she lay panting for breath, coated in a fine layer of sweat, and completely blind to his actions. "No," he confirmed in a deep, husky voice filled with need. "You won't."

His thumb moved away and was replaced by his tongue. She yelped in surprise and pleasure. She thrust her hips up towards his mouth. He draped her leg over his shoulder and massaged her slowly, torturously. She dug her heel into his back, desperate for more while needing to ground herself amidst the mind-blowing pleasure. Her cries filled the room, reverberating off the walls, encouraging him. Before she could register what was happening, he'd thrown her into a second orgasm.

He never stopped. Relentlessly, he kissed and licked and sucked, pumping his fingers harder and faster until she came a third time. She lost count. Over and over, he forced her to that edge, shoved her over, and dragged her back up again. Her arms and wrists ached from the bindings. Her back was going stiff from his near constant arching. Her throat was so dry her cries came out as hoarse rasps. It was too intense. Almost painful. She needed him to stop. He pushed her, once again into an orgasm and her whole body shook.

She pressed her thumb into the clicker.

He stopped immediately. She lay there gasping for air and trembling uncontrollably. She felt him crawling up the bed over her, kissing every inch of her skin as he went. He kissed her jaw gently. "Last chance, pet." He breathed. "Are you sure?"

Unable to speak, she nodded.

Nolan seemed hesitate before backing up again to release her ankle from the binding. He flipped her onto her stomach and kissed a trail up her spine, lifting her hips up to meet his. His mouth was at her ear. "Open." He commanded.

She felt something at her mouth and obeyed. The ball gag was secured tightly around the back of her head, ensuring there was no way she was going to be able to bite back or say anything until he removed it. She squeezed the clicker to assure herself that there was an out if she needed it.

Nolan leaned back and gripped her hips in a bruising grip. Her legs were no better than jelly. She relied on his hold to keep her in position. The mere thought of his level of control over her made her crave him even more, despite the tenderness between her legs from his previous actions. He guided his cock slowly into her and she winced. He pushed all the way until his pelvis pressed into her ass and stopped. He leaned over her, one hand bracing himself while the other held her tightly against him. He backed up a few inches, and slammed back into her.

He was no less gentle with her now than before. The perfect mix of pleasure and pain rocked through her body and she whimpered through the gag. Nolan nuzzled her neck, inhaling her scent. This was it. He had been dreaming about this moment since he'd met her. He probed the spot between her neck and shoulder with his tongue. His fangs had descended long ago, impatiently reminding him of what he was always meant to do.

"I love you."

Rhia's eyes flew open behind the blindfold. For a fraction of a second, she felt like she'd been thrown into cold water and dragged down from the indescribable pleasure. Did he just...

The pinch of his bite brought her back to the moment. A second later, venom flooded her veins. Something inside her cracked, and whatever was hiding behind that wall came rushing forward. The wind was knocked out of her and she struggled to take a breath. A high-pitched ringing started her in her ears. A radioactive green began to glow on the edges of the blacks of her vision. A voice screamed at her from far away. It wasn't Nolan's voice. It was deeper and more primal... familiar. "Rhiannon!"

And then the euphoria hit. Her mind went blank and her body started to convulse in waves of pleasure. She could feel his fangs in her neck and the gentle tugging on her vein. His cock pulsed inside of her, spilling his own pleasure into her. She wanted... needed him to feel the same pleasure he was giving her. It was selfish of her not to return the favor. She tried to twist her face around to find some part of him that was exposed. The hand on her hip came up to her throat and forced her head still, throwing her once again into a pleasure caused by her need to be dominated by him.

The air slammed back into her chest with a powerful wave of magic that was completely foreign to her. Nolan pulled his head back from her neck and sucked in a breath. Their bodies were shaking from the intensity. When he'd caught his breath enough, he untied the gag and blindfold, and released her from the cuffs. She rolled to look up into his beautiful, clear blue eyes. His fangs were gone, and his lips were stained red with her blood. He reached up to cradle her face, studying her eyes. "Your eyes," he slurred, sounding drunk. "They..."

She blinked a few times. Whatever it was must have cleared up as he never finished. He stared at her for a long minute before kissing her. He tasted of iron and sex, setting her blood on fire all over again. She wrapped her arms and legs around him and rolled him onto his back, rubbing herself against him, desperate for his touch. He hissed and lifted her up away from his sensitive organ. "Sorry, sweetheart," he laughed over her whine. "I'm going to need a minute after that."

He flopped her on the bed next to him and she instantly curled into him. She could not get enough of him. "Oh my god." She groaned, a stupid smile creeping up her face. "That was amazing."

"How do you feel?" he mirrored her idiotic grin.

"Like I could run forever." She pressed her body into his side, practically humping his hip. "Please, I need you."

His eyebrows shot up. "Most people just zone out to enjoy the high." He chuckled. "We should get you a vibrator."

Her eyes gleamed and her smile grew. "Does that mean we get to do this again?"

"I could be convinced."

She dragged herself up to kiss him again. "Did you get enough?" she murmured against his lips.

"That's relative," he slurred. His eyelids were drooping, and he was sinking deeper into the pillows. "I want more." His fingers grazed the still tender spot on her neck where he had fed from her. "It seems your magic won't let me, though."

"Magic?" a sobering cold began to clear the fog in her brain. "I don't..."

"You do," his head slumped back. "Every time we fuck it goes..." his fingers flexed out and he made an explosion sound before he dissolved into giggling. He hadn't been like this after feeding from a bag. Were there side effects to feeding from the vein? "It's incredible. You keep getting stronger. You might... be able to actually use it... soon..."

Nolan's eyes slid half closed and Rhia knew he'd relented and given into the effects of his feeding. His chest rose and fell in deep, steady breaths. She felt his pulse under his skin, faster than usual. She sat up slowly so she wouldn't wake him. She tossed a sheet over him before going to the shower. Her body was still reacting to the venom. Her sex drive was in total overdrive. With the water on hot, she let her fingers dive between her legs. All the raw tenderness was gone. Her bruised knuckles were healed as well. All that was left was the yearning need between her legs. She worked herself until her legs were shaking and her breath came out in gasps. She couldn't tell if she were finally satisfied, or if she were just too tired to continue.

Magic.

Rhia leaned her forehead against the smooth grey tiles. Your magic. That's what he said. It had to be a mistake. He had to be wrong. She didn't have magic. How could she? She was human. Price proved that with the heritage tests. If there was even a drop of magic in her blood, Richard would have taken her to an entirely different state and abandoned her all over again. The Ancients had a different way of seeing children, even if they weren't wanted. If she had magic... they wouldn't have left her in a mortal neighborhood... right?

She reached out and turned off the shower. The water was stinging her eyes. She wrapped a towel around herself and stepped back into the room. The curtains fluttered in the breeze. She stared at the window. The blown-out window. Was it like that before? Whatever had done it was so powerful it even cracked the frame. Could it be...

No. Nolan was wrong. Completely... utterly... wrong.

She dressed quickly and practically ran out of the room and down the stairs. She was relieved to see that the rest of the windows were intact. Mechanically she started making coffee. Coffee would help. Coffee made everything better. At least until five o'clock. Then wine made everything better. As coffee dripped through the filter, she retrieved her phone from her purse still at the bottom of the stairs. She stared at her reflection in the black screen.

Typically, people thought of dragon magic when electronics stopped working. The development of delicate cellphones showed that any magic could mess with them. Her old phone had died the first night she spent with Nolan. His bathroom lights had been out the next morning. Not just the bathroom... the bedroom too. Fuck... she really needed to stop thinking about this.

She heard the garage door opening from outside and a car driving in. A minute later, a soft knock on the door. Rhia opened it to see Cameron standing there. There were dark shadows under his brilliant blue eyes. "Rhia." He blinked. "Can I come in?"

"Of course." She stepped back to let him in. "How did you get here, It's the middle of the day."

"U.V. filtered glass on the car and then very careful not to do anything that would get me pulled over." He laughed. "Is my father here?"

"He's... sleeping."

"Good. I actually wanted to speak to you in private."

She raised an eyebrow and slid a mug of coffee across the counter. "Are you okay?"

"No." he wrapped his hands around the mug. "I wanted to apologize for last night. For losing control of my shade."

"Shade? Oh, you mean the magic Bastian was telling me about?"

"Yeah. I'm usually a lot better about keeping it under wraps but... I don't suppose he's told you about my mother?"

"No." she shook her head. "And I won't ask. If he wants me to know about Valentina, he'll tell me in his own time."

Cameron nodded slowly. "Anyway... I could have really hurt you. I did hurt you. Gods... my kids..."

His shoulders started shaking. Rhia reached out to touch his hand. "I'm alright, Cam. It looked worse than it was on my end. Bastian said my eardrums didn't even rupture."

That wasn't entirely true, but that wasn't the point. Cameron looked at her hand on his. "You're a good soul." He said quietly. "You'll be good for him in Paris."

"Bastian said I needed to give him a reason to keep his humanity. Do things get that bad for him."

"It's just a different job." He shrugged. "You've gotten to know him enough to know how compassionate he can be. There's no room for compassion with Constantine. He can be cold, manipulative, and he is destructively calculating. He is the reason Constantine has been king this long. Raphaël is not the first to revolt, and he certainly will not be the last. He's gotten so bold the last few decades because of my father's absence. I have no doubt that it will only take a few weeks for Nolan to crush the rebellion and put things back where Constantine wants them. But what comes after? Politics... games... everything he hates. It gets to him eventually."

Rhia ran her finger along the lip of her mug. "How am I supposed to be that anchor for him? I'm human. I don't want to turn. Constantine is going to use that against him."

Another shrug. "My mother had her shade and a financially and politically empowered family." He said thoughtfully. "Before her was Lisbeth, Bastian and Sybil's mother. She had a brother who married into shifter royalty."

"All his previous wives had something to offer Constantine." Her brow furrowed at the steaming liquid.

"Not... all of them." Cameron hesitated. "If I understand the stories correctly, he married a lioness shifter in the Ptolemy age. They called her the reincarnation of Sekhmet. She didn't have political power or money. Iset led her clan with the intention of making them happy and safe, she defended them with a fury on the level he had never seen before. She had no desire for anything more than that. It struck a chord with Nolan. As for Constantine... how I understand it, she simply wouldn't let him get in her way. She wasn't a vampire. She wasn't bound to his individual laws, only the ones agreed upon by the counsel and any additional shifter laws. You're human. You're not bound to his laws either. Maybe you can find some kind of... I don't know."

Human. I am human. She thought. But... am I?

Cameron smiled for the first time. "I'm glad I was able to catch you first. I'll go before he gets up."

"Cameron," she hesitated. "Can I ask you something? It doesn't have anything to do with Nolan."

"Sure." He raised his eyebrow again. It was incredible how much he looked like his father. "What is it?"

"Lawyers have to investigate for some cases, right? I... was wondering if you might be able to look into something for me."

"Your brother is a cop. I would assume he's better suited for this."

She shook her head. "I've done everything I can through human sources. I doubt there's anything that can be done, it's been so long, but..."

Her words died out before finishing the sentence. Cameron's eyes softened. "You're looking for your biological family?"

"I haven't thought about it for a while. I was... content as a Kincaid. Lately, though... more and more has come up... I just want to know if they're even alive."

Cameron was quiet for a few minutes, considering her request. "This is too much for me or my firm," he said slowly. "But I have a few connections to Ancient P.I.'s. They're not cheap, but one of them owes me a favor. They'll need an item. Something you had before the Kincaid's. Do you have anything like that?"

"Not on me." She answered thoughtfully. "But my mom might still have my baby blanket."
