《The Side Character ☑》Chapter 22 - Wannabe Batmans and Ninja Turtles.

Someone has mistaken my head for a drum and is tuning the music for his new song on it.

What did I do now?

Drink my weight in alcohol?

Well, knowing me it isn't really impossible.

My eyelids feel like someone had stitched them shut. I feel my back resting on a flat platform, probably a chair. I try to move my hands but they are tied painfully behind my back. Groaning with pain, I flutter open my eyes.

The first thing I notice is the barrel of a gun pointed directly at me.

My eyes travel down the arm of the holder and to his face. His face is half covered with a black mask. Cruel hazel eyes stare at me from underneath it. His blonde hair is tucked underneath a baseball cap.

"Finally," he smirks cruelly, "I have something that is precious to Ryd-"

"Oh my God! You're Batman!" I gasp in surprise.

Silence.

"The fuck?" he asks coldly as he takes a step towards me.

"You're not?" I ask confused, "Then-Oh I get it!"

I smile at him brightly, "I'm so sorry for my mistake."

Smiling, he nods slightly, "It's alright-"

"You're a Ninja Turtle, right?"

He closes his eyes groaning, "How hard did you hit her head, Jay?"

It's then that my attention turns towards the other guy standing in the corner of the small dim lit room. He has both of his hands stuffed inside his pocket with a cool glare on his face. His face is covered with a black mask too but his eyes glare at me with a force so great that I can't help flinching slightly.

"Not strong enough, it seems," he replies coldly.

His voice brings back memories. Isn't he the one who had suddenly grabbed me inside Ryder's house?

Memories of that event rush towards me.

The carnival.

Me as an asshole.

Ryder's house.

My eyes widen as I think about it. These people..they were in Ryder's house. Is he okay? Is Carla alright?

Worry about yourself first, bitch.

Yeah, why had they taken me?

How much time has passed since then? There is no way to tell the time in this small room with no windows I'm enclosed within.

Keep calm Lisa. They're nothing but wannabe Batmans and Ninja Turtles.

Trying to act nonchalant I frown at him, "Normal people shouldn't hit other people randomly without warning. It's rude."

He chuckles humorlessly, "So should I have asked beforehand? 'Milady, would you like to be hit on the head with the back of a gun?'"

I stare at him sarcastically but don't form a reply.

The blonde guy in front of me smirks catching my attention, "Wouldn't you like to know why you're here?"

I shrug, "Let me guess. One of my friends did something to piss you off and now you're gonna do something to me to piss them off, right?"

A moment of silence passes by with their jaws on the floor.

"How did...?" the blonde in front of me asks as he slowly lowers his gun from my face.

I wink at him, "Wattpad, baby. Too many stories with the same scenes."

The guy standing in the corner, whose name is probably Jay, sighs irritated and steps out of the shadows, "Come on Cameron. Don't waste time and let's finish her off."

My eyes widen slightly, "What do you mean finish me off? Aren't you gonna wait for that friend of mine to arrive so you can kill me in front of them?"

Jay rolled his eyes, "No thanks, the look on his face as he sees your dead body will be just as much."

Trying to bubble down the fear building within me, I lick my dry lips.

No one probably knows where I am right now. So it's foolish to hope for any kind of rescue unless I do something about it myself first.

But what?

A smirk threatens to spread on my lips as I remember it.

But for the plan to work, I need time.

Masking my excitement with fear I stutter nervously, "W-what? What are you talking about? The look on whose face?"

"Ryder," Jay smiles coldly, "That son of a bitch's face"

What? I blink.

I thought it was Sam!

"Ryder?" I look between both of them confused, "Why? What did he do?"

Deathly silence falls upon the room as they both stare at me with icy looks.

"You asked what he did?" Jay grits his teeth as he runs a hand through his hair frustrated, "It's what he didn't do! That bastard was supposed to have my back! But instead he ratted me out to the police the first chance he got! Because of him I had lost five years of my life!"

I sit there stunned, "What-"

Cameron sighs as he leans on the wall on my right, "I'll explain. Since you're obviously going to die."

So nice of him.

"Two years ago-"

"Hey!" Jay suddenly interrupts as he stares at Cameron incredulously, "Are you shitting me right now? We're not telling a random girl about our private shit! Kill her right now."

I glare at Jay with hatred pouring through my eyes, "Seriously?"

Why, God, why?

Just why?

Every freaking time I come to this close to knowing Ryder's past, something or anything just has to happen.

It's like someone deliberately doesn't want me to know!

Cameron shrugs as he raises his gun again, "Sorry sweetheart."

Is this it?

My eyes widen in pure fear as I realize the situation I'm in.

To get my plan to work, I need them out of the room with my heart jumping and running. Not flattened on the floor!

But now, as the barrel of the gun is pointed right before my forehead...I feel scared.

Shit.

I have so many dreams! I want to be a writer, I want to watch that new Nicholas Sparks movie, I want to eat ice cream one last time, I want to have sex!

Yeah...not very ambitious dreams.

I close my eyes as I hear him turning off the safety trigger.

Click.

"You fucking idiot!" Jay's furious yelling makes me snap open my eyes.

He's shaking Cameron by the collar of his shirt, "How could you forget to fucking load the gun? Are you stupid? Don't you know the difference?"

Cameron holds his hands up in defence, "Hey! I was higher than a Kite! I'm sorry!

Jay growls and shoves him away, "Is that supposed to make me twerk out of joy?"

I blink as I process the situation.

Oh God, thank you so much. I swear I'll stop drinking from now on...on every weekend at least. I'll get drunk every month, how does that sound?

A sigh of relief escapes me.

Cameron mutters something about how he's acting like a jackass and storms out of the room leaving only the two of us behind.

Silence passes between us for a while before Jay turns to look at me, "Just because you got lucky this time doesn't mean you will again when I come back with a loaded gun."

A slight chill runs down my spine as I notice his cold eyes.

"Why are you really doing this?"

He looks taken aback by my question, "What?"

"Why are you really doing this?" I repeat my question.

He doesn't answer me.

Biting his lips he throws me one last glare before also storming out. I hear a clicking noise as if he has locked the door.

Oh well, time to get to work.

I try to wiggle my hands out of the painfully tied knot behind my back. It's actually not that hard. They must have thought tying me up real tightly when I was sitting in a closed room had no point and was a waste of strength.

Hah! I'll show them.

I smile as I manage to wiggle one hand out of the knot and then another.

Sighing I twist my wrist trying to get the blood flowing in them. Hurriedly I check my pockets.

No phone.

Well, obviously they'd have taken it away.

But still I have a plan.

You're probably thinking what the hell is she going to do in a closed room?

Well, my friends, do you remember my insane love for reading books?

Yes, so there would be times when I kept reading books till 3 even 4 am in the morning and obviously would sleep walk through the entire day. One day, my mom got suspicious as to why I was always late to school and came to check up on me one night.

There she saw me up and alive, kicking and jumping on my bed because the book was so amazing, at 3 am.

You can obviously guess what happened.

So she took away my phone and I was banned from usining it after 11 pm.

What did I do? Did I went to bed every night at 11 o'clock like a good little teenager?

No, I saved up money and bought myself another phone.

It was my secret phone, no one knew about it. Not even my best friends. It wasn't as my fancy as my main phone but it worked. And by worked I mean, I could still read books till 3 am.

Yeah, sue me.

I slip a hand inside my bra, get your minds out of the gutter please, and bring out my secret phone.

It's a really old model phone which is snapped open and so small that I could always hide it inside my bra and forget about it.

Oversized bras. A woman's best hiding space.

Grinning from ear to ear, I quickly power it on.

Since I actually didn't use this phone for anything other than reading books, I have no contacts saved in it.

But since I have a great memory-

Say what?

I obviously remember my best friends' phone numbers.

You wouldn't have remembered your name if you weren't called by it on a daily basis.

Shut up and let me focus! Of course I remember their phone numbers!

Okay, now who to call?

Chloe? She'd faint before she can call the police.

Alexis? She'd try to ship me with the kidnappers.

Sam? Yeah. She's the best for this type of situations I think. And maybe she can even contact Ryder since I don't have his number.

Shooting a worried glance towards the door, I hurriedly begin entering her number.

It rings two times before someone picks up.

"Oh my God! Sam! You have-"

"Ohio! Watashioa daijobu?"

I blinked, "What?"

"Arigato no Ling Yang Restaurnant-"

I hang up and stare at the phone flatly for a while.

Did I just call a Japanese Restaurant?

You were saying?

Gritting my teeth at my bitchy sub consciousness, I start dialing again.

Five minutes, one Chinese laundry and one strip club later I finally reach Sam.

"Yeah? Who the fuck are you?"

I almost cry in relief as I hear her cursing at me, "Oh God! Sam!"

"Lisa?" she incredulously asks, "Why are you calling me from this number? Did something happen?"

After I hurriedly explain the events, Sam hangs up telling me that I shouldn't worry even a little and she's coming with reinforcements.

What the hell that meant I had no idea.

Snapping my phone shut, I again tuck it inside my bra.

Now, I just have to wait.

The question is, is it going to be the alive me or dead me?

I hang up the call as I sigh irritated. My phone call to Andrew hasn't been really productive. Who the fuck knows when he'll arrive? Better yet, who the fuck knows when we'll get Ryder?

Who the fuck knows how's Lisa right now?

My boots dig into the green grassy texture of the meadow. I told Andrew to pick us up from here. I would've gladly taken my car if it wasn't for my dad. Sneaking out of the house is one thing, but getting my Chevrolet out of the basement garage without drawing the attention of the 30 guards patrolling is another thing.

You're probably wondering what I am, right?

Well I'm the daughter of a gang leader, of course. Wasn't it obvious?

But right now, not even my contacts and connections are able to help me.

I grit my teeth and run a hand through my jet black hair, "Fuck."

"Hey," Mason says as he puts a hand on my shoulder to stop me. His masculine scent, which is a mix of caramel and spice, instantly envelops me.

I feel myself calming down.

The fuck Sam? Stop this nonsense!

Mason gently grabs my arm and turns me around to face him, "It's going to be okay, I promise."

I'm pressed against his hard chest. Hey, it's not like I haven't been pressed against anyone like this. Believe me, when I say this, oh god I have. And without all the fucking clothes.

But something about how his arm is on my waist sends

my stomach into a frenzy. I have no fucking idea why.

"How is it going to be okay?" I yell frustrated, "She told me that she was taken by two guys named Cameron and Jay! Ring any bells? They're the leaders of The Hounds! Our most dangerous rival! I would've asked my dad for help but he would never agree! The heartless bastard! He thinks maintaining a reputation is more important than saving a life? The fuck? She's my best-"

He cuts of my ranting my gently placing his lips onto my forehead, "Ssh, sweetheart. Calm down. I promise everything is going to be fine."

Fuck, why aren't my lungs working? Damn it! Breathe! Fuck you, breathe!

Nodding shakily I step away, "Uh, yeah. Thanks."

He smirks, "No problem. Besides, I can't let my source of income die because of hyper ventilating."

My eyebrow twitches annoyingly but I don't say anything.

That's what I'm to him.

A source of income.

Before all of you go down that way, let me clarify what Mason's job is.

To guard me, to ensure that no harm ever comes to me.

In short he's my bodyguard.

Because my dad thinks he's daughter can't fucking take care of herself.

Bloody hell.

The sudden sound of tires in the quiet night air makes me snap my head towards that direction. Andrew's Range Rover is racing down the street at an unbelievable speed. He turns the car at such a furious speed that it almost topples over the side.

He stops right beside where we were standing and rolls down the window, "Hurry the hell up! I'll get you two a honeymoon package when all of this is over."

Growling at him, I yank open the back door and slide inside. Mason climbs in beside me.

As we race down the empty streets, I can't help but start praying for the first time in a long while.

Oh God, please let everything be okay again.
