Paris mourned

The news was so sudden and so unexpected, how else were they meant to react?

They'd seen Hawkmoth attack and it wasn't anything new, they reacted seemingly and did what they always did, however, they weren't prepared for what they saw.

They saw Ladybug fly in like usual, but along with her came Abrielle who had been missing for two months and joining them was heroes that didn't belong in Paris; let alone outside of America. They saw Batman fight with his crew and many other superheroes and vigilantes they never expected.

For once, they believed Paris would be set free, and they were correct, but not in the way they thought.

Everyone saw the magical ladybugs fixing up the mess all around Paris and they felt the sudden atmosphere change despite the bright sky. Parisians knew better than to go outside, just in case, remembering what happened last time they remained inside till one of the heroes came and told them it was safe to come out, alike to how they'd done every single time before. Little did they know, no one would come get them because they were too busy.

The superheroes all began to make their way to the Eiffel tower, where they remembered Ladybug and Hawkmoth fighting, knowing yet hoping they'd find her with the two missing miraculous' and her injuries would be healed and they'd be ready to give a quick statement before going home. One by one, the heroes hugged one another and were more than prepared to celebrate Paris being free but where stopped when they all touched the ground.

Their congrats and small celebrations quickly came to a halt when they heard sniffing and muffled sobbing.

The first person to make contact with the concrete pavement was Wonder Woman, and she was also the first to notice one of her colleagues kneeling on the ground with a hunched back, looking down at something she couldn't see because the man was blocking it. But as soon as she moved closer, her eyes widened and she stopped in her tracks.

Everyone else had been following behind her and stopped too when she didn't move forward. They had all heard the sniffing and when the found Abrielle trying her best to stay on her feet, crying like no tomorrow with both her hands covering her mouth to not make a sound, and two Kwami's trying to comfort her.

Diana didn't know what to think, she was so confused, how did this happen? To get an answer, she sceptically walked forward in small steps and when she stood directly behind the Batman, she felt sick and looked away. She couldn't bare to look at the girl but something was urging her to look again, and when she did, she couldn't help but let out a small gasp at what she realised.

Broken pieces of jewellery were surrounding the girl, some still on her body but some had fallen onto the ground she lay on and Diana knew exactly what that meant.

The woman was speechless and walked towards Chloe who had been forced out of her transformation as her brooch magically broke all my itself, but she thinks she knows why just by looking at all the broken pieces of jewellery on the floor. Chloe's mind was blank, but one thing she did know was that Marinette wasn't alive anymore and she didn't know what she'd do now.

Nightwing was the next to approach his adopted father, he had seen Chloe crying and tried his best not to assume the worst, but when he saw Diana react the way she did along with the fact that his mentor was kneeling over something and wasn't moving an inch made him swallow hard.

He inched closer and when he saw that shade of midnight blue hair acting as a halo, blood seeping and coating the hair he loved when he was younger and still does. He saw the pale hand laying on the pavement, nails painted in the exact same shade he saw Marinette holding two days ago, also wearing the same colour cardigan he saw her wearing this morning. His breath came out jagged and he felt his knees buck, threatening to break as he attempted to stable himself, not wanting to seem weak but when he came just a step closer and saw her eyes open, he couldn't save himself from falling.

Her bluebell eyes were wide open and looking up into the sky. Those eyes were something special and he had never seen anything much like them, whenever she entered a room her eyes differentiated her from others no matter when. Those eyes were once so full of light and he clearly could remember when she finally got her happiness back, her eyes were the first thing to sparkle both figuratively and literally.

Dick felt the tears and he tried to stop them from falling but once they started, he couldn't stop them and he sat on his knees weeping silently, scared that if he made a sound something would happen. Crying was something he hadn't done for a while if you disregard the times he's cried tears of happiness and joy. Today and for as long as he could and will remember, Dick cried and continues to cry for his dead sister who he vowed to never forget.

Why do you think he named his daughter Mar'i?

Red hood saw how his brother reacted and was confused by deeply inside knew why, he didn't want to believe it. He took four strong steps forward but when he saw Marinette lying lifelessly with her eyes unmoving he felt the world stop moving.

No, Marinette couldn't be dead. Tell him he's wrong and that he's being lied to.

Marinette had been suicidal, she had been bullied and lost nearly everything. She was on the edge and had been through so much but each time she came back even stronger then the last. But this time she wasn't coming back at all.

They saved her. They helped her and brought her back down to earth where she felt safe and happy for the first time since she was thirteen, now being seventeen.

Oh God. She just turned seventeen.

Today was Marinette's seventeenth birthday, also known as the seventeenth death anniversary of her mother.

They planned to have a small celebration since they knew the day was sensitive but when Marinette received an alert that Paris was once again under attack, she knew her birthday wasn't going to go the way they wanted.

In fact, it went the total opposite direction and ended with Marinette dying on her birthday. Only being seventeen for six hours.

Jason remained standing but he cried, cried and cries. He left Paris with bloodshot eyes and he remembers laughing when he was told his eyes were 'bloodshot', because all he could see when he heard the word was the blood seeping for his baby sisters head, damaging the hair he used to bully her for. He used to say that she was also adopted because neither her mum nor dad had that hair but that was all just to annoy her.

He wanted to cry more and still wishes he cried more, he wishes he punched the son of a bitch who pushed Marinette so far that he made her do what she did.

In the end, Marinette was pushed to the edge by both Hawkmoth and her classmates, so far that she nearly tried to kill herself. Yet, here Marinette lay, heart un-beating and eyes not blinking, dead because she saved the city from Hawkmoth.

Because of Hawkmoth, Marinette was dead.

Red Robin looked at how his two brothers were weeping, he knew why but couldn't bare to look. Every hero had also realised and were standing in a solemn mood, mourning over the young girl they remember seeing grow up, remember seeing her go away and remember seeing her come back.

They had just got her back and she had the audacity to leave them with no words. She hadn't told any of them her plans, she didn't even tell Tikki that she was willing to even kill herself just to win.

She had been so selfish yet so selfless, how does someone do that?

Tim couldn't help but get a glance at his sister and he physically felt his world come crumbling down. He continuously blinked not wanting to cry but that only made the salty tears come down faster. She had just left them and it all happened so fast, what were they supposed to do now?

He couldn't help but look back at her once again, wanting to memorise her appearance so he wouldn't forget her. As soon as he looked at her eyes, he remembered the day he visited her in hospital after she ran away to Paris like the rebellious teen she is. He remembered how her eyes changed shades and today, when he looked at Hawkmoth and Mayura, he knew he saw those colours somewhere and now he knows why they were so familiar.

Oh how he wished he bashed their heads in.

The heroes mourned alone.

They felt pain and grief and it was something personal.

People were lost in battle, they had lost people but not one of their own.

Paris had never lost anyone because Ladybug always bought them back, but if there was no ladybug, there was no one to bring those back. Today, no one was lost besides the one and only Ladybug who had the power to cure everything and bring those back from the dead.

Isn't it quite ironic how she brought everyone back to life and helped heal them but couldn't save nor help herself. Her death only further supports this.

Tikki bitterly swallowed for the first time ever since she opened her eyes, it was a sudden and new sensation but she couldn't care less. She saw red but when she saw that blue, it all disappeared.

What a bittersweet moment.

Paris finally won but everyone had to pay the cost.

The news spread like wildfire, starting with Nadja Chamack.

She didn't take the news well, especially when she recognised the seventeen year old laying in her own blood. Nadja felt like vomiting and cried for the girl she saw as her own daughter. The day she was mailed the keys to the bakery, she was confused and assumed the worst.

The worst wasn't at all true till now.

And from there, all of Paris found out. The America found out, which includes the heroes of New York; The news wasn't taken lightly. The rest of the world also somehow found out.

It was revealed that for around five years, teenagers were fighting a middle aged man with attachment issues and it disgusted them. Then, to further find out that a single girl basically fought all by herself was Marinette Wayne shocked them but not to a big extent. What did shake them to the core was that the youngest Wayne sacrificed herself to bring peace and set Paris free, finally.

The world mourned

But Marinette didn't, she was too busy being the one everyone was mourning for.

Soon enough, it was time for her body to be laid down six feet. Her funeral was tough, so tough that speeches took more than thirty minutes to do.

No father should have to bury any of his children.

Ideally, the roles should be reversed but here Bruce was dressed in all black as he watched his daughters casket being lowered into the ground. He started to have flashbacks of when he did exactly this to his late wife, it never got easier no matter how many times those around him died.

His sons had died several times but they always came back, sometimes hurting them to such an extent they wouldn't wake up till much later and that felt like they did. The catch was they always came back and for some reason, it was expected by everyone for the teenager to come back just like her brothers had done.

The thing is, she'd done the same thing, dying but coming back because of something miraculous.

Marinette Martha Wayne was dead and nothing was going to bring her back, fate made sure of that.
