Marinette could explain
She could explain
She would've explained
She wanted to explain
She tried to explain

She couldn't explain
Yeah, Marinette couldn't explain
She wouldn't've explained
She didn't explain
She didn't even try to explain
As soon as she teleported back to the hospital room, she wasn't met with the most happiest faces.
Even if it was her sister who she hadn't seen in God knows how long. It didn't matter that she had three kwami besides her and her sister had no idea what they were. It didn't matter Marinette had obtained some injuries during her time in Paris. It didn't matter they were siblings, even if they weren't blood related.
Marinette knew what she did.
And Marinette also knew she done fucked up.
Marinette stared forward at her sister who sat on the plastic blue chair in the corner of the room, she chuckled nervously and mentally slapped herself for doing so, that was a mistake.
"I uh, I" She licked her lips and pulled her finger where her ring sat.
"I can explain."
She regretted saying that straight after.
The expression her sister wore, it coerced the truth straight out of the girl
"Yeah, your right. I can't explain."
Marinette nodded frantically and looked in the opposite direction because the facial expressions Cass was making wasn't making her feel any better about the whole situation.
Marinette sat down at the edge of the hospital bed and continued to fiddle with her gold ring, she was more nervous than the time she left America to go study in Paris, and she was trembling back then.
The next thing she knew, the room door burst open scaring her. Marinette was so scared and nervous that her whole sixth sense wasn't working and she wasn't aware of her surroundings.
Her head snapped to her left and to the door, she gulped at the sight of a brother.
Marinette was severely screwed.
******
"Listen, I can explain everything."
All it took was a single eyebrow to be raised
"Yeah, I can't explain anything."
She breathed out and looked down at her bare feet. She bit her lip and didn't let go of her grip she had on her ring, it was a bad habit of hers and it was something she did without thought. She knew she was in trouble but she didn't exactly think everything through when she saw the akuma alert go off on her phone, it was natural instinct and usually she didn't have anyone to explain to. Her class didn't care and neither did her teacher, no one would believe anything she said anyways so it was a win-win situation.
"I'm not mad. Angry, yes a little but not mad."
She could hear the clear disappointment in her fathers voice and felt instant regret. She remained silent and waited for him to continue talking, maybe even scold her a little, she was prepared for anything at this point.
"How long has this been happening in Paris?"
His voice got more gentle when he spoke and she instantly relaxed but didn't let herself relax fully, he deserved an explanation.
"Nearly four years." her voice was barely above a whisper.
"But really, I did think everything would be finished by now b-but"
She didn't even mean to start rambling, that was also something she did without any thought. It was another habit of hers and everyone knew when she was nervous she would ramble and if no one stopped her she could go on for hours.

No one stopped her.
No one tried to stop her.
No one even bothered to stop her.
She didn't stop.
She didn't even try to stop.
She didn't even bother stopping.
He just let her ramble to her hearts contents and she did just that. She somehow went from making up a random excuse, to the very beginning of when she received her miraculous to the current date. She left out no details. Every minute thing was told, from the akuma names, the dates of certain things and even to her wins and losses. She didn't even stop there.
She continued on. She talked about things she herself thought she buried in the back of her head, memories she promised to never think of again, things she never told even her best friend.
The past few years in Paris was told as a full on narrative in full detail and it was told as if it was a movie, from the details and explanations. Marinette didn't stop there though.
She dug down deeper than she's ever dug before, she went straight to the core and let everything out.
She told everything of Lila, how the Italian ruined and destroyed her both physically and mentally. Marinette was walking proof of everything that was coming out of her mouth, the bruises from the bullying, scabs and scars from both battles and her self harm. Marinette didn't stop.
Marinette didn't stop till there was nothing left. She didn't stop till she told everything in the most detail and she could even see the memories replay in her head. She didn't stop till she had nothing else to talk about.
She didn't stop till she leaked every secret she's kept for the last few years. Everything was out of the bag but she couldn't care less. Everything she didn't want to divulge in was told and she relived it.
Her father could officially say he knew the girl top to bottom and by the back of his hand, now that he knew absolutely everything and nothing was now kept a secret between the two.
It could be argued between him and Tikki who knew her better but that argument was for another day, for a day filled with less tears, emotions and running around.
Marinette shed no tears. She didn't even have any tears left to cry because they were all used when she explained everything to her two eldest brothers, she cried her eyes out then and there was nothing else left to cry now, even if she tried.
Letting everything out was a huge stress reliever, it was kinda like therapy and her shoulders instantly felt lighter. She wasn't sure exactly how many people knew about Paris or about her situation but she could care less.
Marinette needed help.
She needed desperate help and she was prepared to do anything to get it. Not only did Marinette need the help for herself but she needed the help for Paris and if anyone could help her, it would be her family.
But first, there was something she needed to get off her chest and its been bothering her for as long as she's known.
"But can I just say, Scarlet moth's outfit is ugly because all those shades of red clash. And, what the heck is it with him and his weird clothes designs and names he gives each akuma. Like I'm sorry: Mr pigeon, guitar villain, Gigantatium, Zombizou, Horrificator, bubbler, The pharaoh he could do better than that, Animan, Simon says, the mime, Kung Food and it just gets worse. They're so weird and simple, like what is his thought process 'Oh, this man is an actor and mime for a living so his villain name will be The Mime!' dude could do so much better and it's so annoying that you have to address them by that name during each battle. Sometimes it's just so hard not to laugh when they announce their name for the first time!"

She breathed in and out and carried on.
"And like, what even is his name?! Hawkmoth, the miraculous isn't even a moth, it's a butterfly and where on earth did the hawk come from?! Like in this miraculous box, there isn't any hawk miraculous, maybe there is in others but why on earth is it Hawk moth?!"
She shook her head furiously and as she explained, her hands spread making random gestures.
"And you want to know what the worst part about everything is?"
She didn't wait for an answer and continued on.
"He actually has good fashion sense! Like his suit is actually nice and the colours aren't too bright, the purples go well together and it annoys me because he's meant to be evil and I like his clothing! Like why couldn't he get the bright, clashing colours like we did at first! Even Mayura has nice blue's - even if her skin colour also turns blue - her dress isn't all that bad and is quite nice actually. Add in her fan and her mask hat thingy, woman looks good! and it aggravates me so much because I love what they wear but they're evil! Like why did Noroo and Dusuu have to make their outfits so nice! I would love to kill Hawkmoth and Mayura but they look to good and I don't wanna ruin their outfits, even if its magic!"
She let out a shuddered breath after her much needed rant. She has been wanting to get that out for god knows how long and she's happy she has. Her chest physically felt lighter after that.
She finished.
She explained everything and nothing, not a single detail was left out. She opened her eyes that were screwed shut, she had closed them for the whole explanation because she couldn't look her father in the eye and say everything she just did. Even if her dad was good at hiding his emotions, her whole family including her were experts in that, she couldn't bare look at him. She was sure that at certain points during her story, she would get some sort of reaction out of him and she didn't want to see that.
"Well, that surely wasn't what I was expecting."
Marinette's head turned to the opened door where she found Tim. He had been at work when everything was happening but did leave halfway through when Marinette was declared missing. He didn't know anything about her situation in Paris, she only told Dick and Jason since they were the only two who were available at the time.
Marinette managed to crack a smile at that and scratched the back the of her neck.
"I've been meaning to get the last part off my chest for a while now." she shrugged her shoulders.
She lifted up her legs and sat down crossed legged on the bed so she could face the two of them, she was still waiting for an actual reaction out of the two.
"I'm guessing Dick and Jason told you what they knew about everything already, huh?" She saw Tim's single nod.
She understood why and she couldn't blame either of them. She felt bad, she kept such big secrets and she was facing the consequences for her choices.
"How much trouble am I in?" she tried her best to avoid eye contact with her dad but when he looked straight at her, she might've accidentally made eye contact with him.
"You're not in trouble Marinette."
She didn't say anything and waited, twisting her ring and slipping it onto each of her ten fingers to see how it fit each one. She had done this many times before and knew exactly how it sat on each finger but she did this quite often anyways.
"You did what you thought was right and from what I've just heard, you've done your best." she bit her lip and still waited.
These types of conversations weren't an often occurrence but she's experienced enough of them to know how her dad reacts. By her calculations, if her calculations were correct anyways, he was going to now mildly scold her but it'll be barely like he was actually scolding her.
"As soon as things got even slightly bad you should've mentioned something but you were under pressure and school clearly wasn't making things any easier."
She winced at that.
It's ironic how she travelled to Paris for the sake of studying. Marinette would've rather stayed in Gotham for the rest of her education but what she's experienced isn't something she regrets, even if her life has been put on the line more than several times. She would never regret receiving Tikki but she could do without an evil megalomaniac and psycho manipulative liar.
"I'm so sorry." she whispered.
"I- I'm actually so sorry, I feel so stupid and I suck and I just wanna go back in time - which I actually have the power and ability to do - and change several things. Oh, I've been so stupid, please kill me already."
She put her two hands over her face but not before taking off her glasses so they wouldn't get in her way. Even though she has committed self harm and has owned up to the thought of ending her life, her 'please kill me already' wasn't her being serious.
The two men probably knew that but you could never know what they were thinking, none of her family exactly thought aloud.
Before anything could change, something happened and she's not too sure what was happening but whatever it was, it was excruciating painful.
Something was tugging at her stomach. She sucked in a large breath and moved her hand to her abdomen, her head leaning backwards and her eyes screwing shut immediately.
It seemed to get the attention of the two men as they both moved from their relaxed positions from the doorway and chair. She whimpered slightly when it happened again.
Whatever was happening to her got the attention of the three Gods in the room as they flew to her straight away. Their beady eyes full of concern and worry for what was happening to their guardian.
Her eyes suddenly flew open but they weren't the same.
Whatever was happening, it changed both her eyes. Both eyes no longer the same, but both were different colours.
They weren't her usual bluebell. They were a different colours. The colours oddly similar, too similar. The colours so similar that the three Kwami's recognised it instantly.
One eye was a mix of turquoise and navy blue, while the other was a deep purple.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.
