《The Fun Nerd || rottmnt Donnie x Reader》Chapter 3

Cmon bell.... Bell.. bell...
You tap your pencil in impatience as the clock got closer to ringing, the signal starting your weekend.
You still wondered when Donnie planned to take you to the park, but you decided to be patient and not pester him about it. Bell, cmon gosh darnit. April tapped your shoulder, "Has Donnie said anything about your, date?~" You scoff, "We're friends dumb-dumb." April adjust her glasses all anime-like, "Yeah, sure.. 'Friends'. Whatever you say girl." You smirk; rolling your eyes. April always did tease you because of how you acted around Donnie, but you were fine with it as long as she didn't do it in front of him. The bell suddenly rings, you jump up with April, grab your bags and run out the door.
You grip to Aprils bag as the two of you worm your way through the wave of students eager to leave. When the fresh fall air hits your face, you sigh in relief. April gives you a quick hug and whispers in your ear, "Look over there." You look around and your eyes soon fall on a figure with a signature purple hoodie. You realize who it was and sweat nervously, "Good luck y/n" You were about to protest, but April ran off, leaving you frozen.
Donnie waited, but when you didn't move- he walked to you. "Hey y/n." You awkwardly try to greet him, "uh..uh.. Hi...?" Donnie raises a brow, "You okay?" You nod quickly and cough into your fist, Donnie awkwardly broke the silence, "Sooo...to the park we go!" And with that Donnie locked arms with you and speed-walked to the park.
You were almost limp out of confusion and anxiety of being on a NOT-date with Donatello.
When the two of you arrive to the almost empty park Donnie waits for you to catch your breath. When you seem rested, Donnie pats your back, "So Amigo, where to first?" Your eyes instantly fall to the swings that were between several trees in the shade. You go to grab his hand, but stop and just silently walk to the swings. As the sun disappears from the blanket of red and orange leaves, you finally reach the two swings that rocked slowly with the wind. Grass grew along the base of the structure and the chains squeaked as they moved. "I've never seen this area before..." Donnie silently agrees to your remark and carefully takes a seat, you repeat his actions. "So... why'd ya wanna hang today?" You ask, a bit of hope in your voice as you awaited a sweet response. But, as always, Donnie had a reason that made sense and involved work, "Oh, I just finished the workload of projects I've been creating, so I thought today would be an acceptable time for 'hanging out'." You smile weakly, as a pang of disappointment fills your heart. Of course he didn't hang out because he liked you, he did it because he was bored...

"Yeah, that's understandable." You agreed in a monotone voice, Donnie didn't seem to pay it much mind though.
"So, why did you want to hang with me?" You feel your blood run a little cold. You had to make an excuse, you can't just say it was a result of you screwing up asking him out.
"Um...I don't know.. I have fun hanging with you?" Donnies eyes widen a little and you swore you saw something pink to his cheek, "Oh, um... Well of course you do, I am a master of entertainment!" You snort, your nerves were finally relaxing, "Haha, sure you are." Donnie elbows you lightly and the two of you let out a hearty laugh.
The air was filled with a comfortable silence, until you decided to break it.
"So, how are your brothers?" Donnie groans. "Ugh, they've been destroying the place, as usual." You laugh a little. Then Donnie asks you a question that breaks your heart,
"By the way, you need to ask Leo out already. You two are made for each-other."
You deadpan at him, "What?" He throws up his hands,
"Hey, sorry I just thought you two would make a good couple. I mean he's the only person I know with an unnaturally big crush on you."
You feel your throat start to close. "No.. that...that's not what I want." You look to the ground, feeling your face burn. Donnie holds your shoulder with a concerned expression, "Hey, are you okay?" Tears threaten to fall down your cheeks. "I'm... I'll be okay." You gently push his hand away and struggle to smile.
It hurt to know that his romantic feelings towards you were so below zero that he wanted you to date his brother.
You look at your phone. "I should be going..." It was a lie though, you didn't have anywhere to go. Donnie cocked a brow, "But we just got here...?" You zip up your jacket and swing your backpack over your shoulder. "I.. I just need some time alone." - "Did I say something wrong?" You keep your head down as you choked back tears. In a breaking voice, you muttered, "Yes. Yes you did." And just walked away.

You were surprised Donnie didn't follow you home. It made you feel like he didn't care as much as he should, but you were so upset, you thought it was for the best.
When you arrive at your apartment, you toss your bag down and pull out a book. You need to take your mind off things. As you read, you think about Donnie, but your thoughts soon gravitated to Leo. Maybe you should date him... he'd treat you right and shower you with constant love. You look out the window at the sky that was beginning to turn a light orange. A sniff escapes you as you crave a comfort, and almost as if your mind was read, April jumped down in front of your window. You jump, but smile. You unlock the window and she swiftly steps inside. April squeals, then drags you to your kitchen and sits the two of you at the table.
"Give me all the details girl!" You sigh, shake your head and put your face in your hands. "Hey..(n/n) what's wrong?" You sniff and tears fall to the table as you silently cry. "Are you crying? Oh no.. what did he say?" You sputter through a sloppy explanation as you finally break down. "Y/n! Its okay." She walks to your side and embraces you in a tight hug as you begin to bawl.
It was this moment when you realized that Donnie never had feelings for you, you were always just a friend. You were a fool to think he'd want to date you. That any part of him had any sort of attraction towards you.
April held you tight as you cried, trying to get the full story.
After spilling your heart out, April was sort of able to piece together what happened.
She was not happy.
You blew your nose and took some meds to prevent the headache you knew would follow soon. April placed a hand on your shoulder as you looked in the mirror at your red-puffy face. "You're even pretty after you cry! I don't know how he can't like you back." You smile, "Thanks. But, maybe he's right." April crossed her arms and gave your a look of disapproval. "Girl, you can't date Leo." You continue to blow into a tissue, you ask, "Why not?" April groans, "Y/n.. You don't love him like you love Donnie. You deserve to give your heart to Donnie." You shake your head, "No, I don't want to try to win his heart anymore. I've done what I can for over a year, and nothing has come of it." April lets down her defensive posture, you continue, "Leo has proven to be a guy who can win me over. He's sweet and handsome and funny, with a kind- loving heart that many would kill to have." April sighs rubbing her nose-bridge; her glasses becoming crooked. "Are you sure about this?" You nod, "Maybe he can prove he's better for me."
You escort April out via the window, giving her a hug, "Thanks, for being here for me." April smiles, "Forever and always. You're my best friend." You hug her one more time. April turns, "See ya at school on Monday." She gets ready to jump down the fire escape, when she looks at you one last time, "Oh, and don't worry. I'll be having a 'chat' with Mr. "Von Ryan" for ya."
And with that she was gone
You smile for a fleeting moment, then you look to your phone that sat on your nightstand. Maybe.. Maybe this was what you needed to do all along.
Oh boy, Another failed confession and ruined not-date. This was an adventure. But I feel like I'm making the reader a little too sensitive. Hmm, I might fix that later on.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
