《Mr. Boss | ✓》XXXVI

Bang Shihyuk walks into his office early that morning, setting his coffee down on the table he walks around it to sit down.

Everything seems normal, his orderly desk remains in the same condition he'd left it the day before, as he sinks into the soft fabric of the chair. But as he sits down his eyes fall on a white envelope resting on of his desk, positioned in such a manner that the minute be sits down it's the first thing he sees. It's plain white colour oddly contracts with the other objects occupying the space on the desk before the CEO.

Picking it up he turns the envelope around looking for any indication of the contents inside or the sender's identity but finds nothing.

Tearing it open his eyes move rapidly from left to right over the words, reading and then understanding every word. A dull headache budding in the back of his head. His eyes linger for a few seconds too long over the name the resignation letter is signed off by.

He lets the letter sit on the desk and stares at the folded paper.

Sunghyun listens to the monotonous ring of the phone, his heart a hammer beating against his chest.

Click.

"Hello! Granny??" He forces his voice to sound joyful.

"Sunghyung?" The elderly lady sounds doubtful.

"Yes, it's me. I hadn't spoken to you for long so I thought I'd call to check up on you."

"I'm still alive if that's what you wanted to find out," he smiles at that. "Tell that Granddaughter of mine that I don't need her friends spying on me. First that troublesome girl Miri and now you."

"Y/N didn't tell me to call you, Granny. I'm worried for you too, you know."

She blows a rather dramatic sigh. "What is there to worry about? I'm perfectly fine." Sunghyun fakes a chuckle which to him sounds dry and forced but thankfully the older lady doesn't sense it.

"It's been a long time since I went back home. I miss your food!" His tongue threatens to speak the truth and ask the elderly lady the one question in his mind.

Is Y/N in Daegu?

"Your parents miss you a great deal, you should visit them sometime soon." Her voice is soft.

"I will. As soon as work allows me to."

"Where is that troublemaker Y/N anyway?" His heart freezes.

So.. She's not in Deagu either..?

"S-she is not here right now. Did you want to tell her something?"

"Oh no no. I don't have to worry about her knowing you're there to take good care of her, Sunghyun." His insides twist with guilt.

Jungkook shoves the door open.

"Where is she?" he's breathing hard nostrils flaring as if he'd been running.

Sunghyun lifts his head from behind his hands to look up at the other man. Jungkook strides up to his desk and slams his hand down on the desk. Sunghyun barely flinches at the loud sound.

"I don't know." he sounds tired and the dark crescents underlining his eyes confirm that.

Jungkook grabs his collar hauling him up from his seat. Sunghyun doesn't show any emotion yet maintains his intense glare.

"Where is she?"

"I told you! I don't know, okay?" Sunghyun pushes his hands off of him. He looks at the other man in confusion unable to understand why he seemed so panicked but his worry for you prevented him from thinking of anything else. "I woke up this morning to find the house empty, she'd taken all her things. But left her phone behind." He glances down at the desk. Following his gaze Jungkook sees the phone. The phone he gave you.

"Why didn't she tell you anything? You're her friend-"

"Don't rub it in, Jungkook." Sunghyun moves from behind his desk towards the door. "Also, I would suggest you don't go looking for her. If she didn't tell you were she was going it's because she didn't want you to know." The last bit seemed to mean as much for him as it did for Jungkook.

As the door closes behind Sunghyun, Jungkook lets out a sigh of frustration. He had not thought in his wildest dreams that things would play out this way. When he was called into PD-nim's room this morning he's assumed he was going to get rebuked for the concert the night before. He had walked into the room with his head hanging apologetically low.

"Jungkook, have a seat." He almost shivered at the stern voice and obeyed it immediately. He had been expecting it but what came... "Do you know what this is about?" The older man placed a folder paper before Jungkook. Despite being folded he could still see the black words on it. A letter. He had reached out a hesitant hand and picked it up. With each word read his eyebrows drew closer until he was crushing the paper in his hand.

"This is a joke, right?" The first few words out of this mouth since he walked into the room.PD-nim had shook his head.

Now standing in Sunghyun's room Jungkook had got his answer. None of this was a joke. You were really gone. Just like that.

He picks up the phone on the table and subconsciously switches it on. When his eyes fall on the wallpaper he feels his heart plummet. Smiling back at him while holding up a peace sign is his own picture that he himself had set as the wallpaper to annoy you.

The wallpaper that you had never changed.
