《Teddy Bear | WinRina》Chapter 16

Katrina wakes up with a headache to the alarm set on her phone, she slept through the night. She slowly cracks her eyes and blinks repeatedly to adjust herself to the bright daylight.
When she did, she sits up while holding her throbbing head before she realizes that someone had tucked her in to a very comfortable position, must be one of the reasons why she slept really well.
"Ah!" she gasps loudly checking the time, her alarm had rung five times before she actually woke up and quickly dashes out of the bed to wash herself.
"Why didn't Yujin woke me up!" she shouts more like a statement rather than a question. The living room is too quiet for her liking but she doesn't have the time to care for that, she doesn't have the time for everything to be exact as she forgot to zip her bag.
As soon as she opens the door, she almost fell on her butt when her two besties, Aeri and Ningning are standing outside, about to knock on her door.
"Aye man, chill!" Aeri puts her hand out to calm the latter as if she just saw a chipmunk with a bunny beside it.
"W-Why are you guys here??? We're late for school! 2nd day of exam!"
"Uh hello? Didn't you get our messages? School is currently closed and our exam has been postponed due to some accident happened yesterday." Ningning enters the house to help Katrina stand up.
"Wha- what?" she raises her eyebrows in demand.
"There has been violence going on in our school and for safety measure, our school has been closed for a week, if I'm not mistaken." Ningning scratches her nape wondering who it was.
"From what we heard, one of our student was badly beaten." The satan says amused, "Thank God, the fire alarm rung and it was only one." Ningning nods.
"I'm so confused." Katrina mumbles looking down. Was it Winter? But she was perfectly fine and she wasn't there when they found out about the case.
"That's why we're here, in our CASUAL attire" she looks down to herself before eyeing them and Ningning was right, she's the only one with their school blazer.
"We've been trying to call you and spammed your inbox but you answered none. I did tell your baby sister, she probably went to school without bothering you and Winter."
Katrina tilts her head before checking her phone and once again they're correct.
"Where's our precious baby bear?"
The atmosphere suddenly turns quiet and dead, only the sound of the clock and be heard. "I don't know...and I don't wanna know." Katrina sigh, her mood suddenly went blue.
Her besties just looks at each other and shrugs making their way to the living room, expecting that their precious baby bear in there doing either doodling or hugging the wall, but to their dismay, she isn't there.
"Katrina..? Winter's not here." Ningning calls her and the latter drags her feet there and again, she's right.
"Bear is not in the kitchen too." Aeri pops her head out with a worried face.
"She probably just went outside to play basketball or something." Katrina groans.
"That couldn't be, we just passed there and its unlikely for you to allow her do so." Aeri meant by allowing her to go outside.
Unfortunately, they're right, once again.
Ningning began to scramble around the house shouting the bear's name but they are all left unanswered.
"Katrina, what happened?"

"..."
"The last time I saw you and Winter was when she dragged you out, what happened?" they approach her but the latter only stood deaf, clenching her jaw feeling somewhat guilty.
"Katrina, answer us."
"I..." she breathes, "I got into a fight with her." and she began telling them everything.
"I shouldn't have pick her up." the reasons she told them hoping they can understand but they only scoffed. "Winter is Winter, she's probably just somewhere but not far and will be back soon..."
"Wow, you.. really now, you are really..." Aeri stops thinking that it might be rude.
"Dense." Ningning finishes for her with a hint of anger in her tone. It was sudden, they all didn't expect Ningning to be like that since she's polite most of the time.
"Excuse me-"
"I'm gonna look for her." She walks away, followed by Aeri who glance at her before exiting the house.
"Wait guys-"
Slams.
—
Winter will be back soon. What can that one bear do?
But today wasn't really a fortunate day for Katrina as she kept hitting conclusions where they were always at her dismay.
It's almost 10 p.m. and the two siblings are blending in the very quiet atmosphere, only the little one's tiny sobs can be heard.
"Unnie, I'm worried..." Yujin clutches on her unnie's shirt, all frowns and watery eyes. "She could be anywhere by now" she sobs against her shirt.
"She'll be fine, Winter won't run away, how can she leaves you?" Katrina assures her while stroking her hair and kisses her forehead.
Katrina was so sure Winter will be back when she saw the box and the piece of paper on her table, thinking that Winter left her stuff.
Yujin sleeps with her unnie that day and ask if she can excuse herself from school tomorrow so that she can welcome Winter. Katrina didn't question further.
—
Katrina wakes up alone the next morning, Yujin isn't in her arms.
And Winter isn't around her. She hasn't return.
It feels cold. She doesn't like it.
Was that a dream? She thought, Winter's probably playing with Yujin right now downstairs, right?
But then she snaps when she remembers that Yujin would be at school if Winter was there in the first place. And she won't wake up at this hour.
"Unnie..." her train of thought was disturbed when a familiar voice, more like a sob, calls her out. There Yujin sits on her chair, hugging her knees, while holding a piece of paper. She gets up immediately and hugs Yujin who bursts in her embrace.
"W-What's wrong? What's that??" Katrina panics when her dongsaeng's cry gets louder.
"Unnie- W-Winter!"
"Why-" she hands the folded paper to her unnie. "This is from my table..." Katrina whispers, feeling scared. The paper somehow taunts her, and so with shaky hands she opens it revealing a slight messy handwriting.
"Dear Katrina and Yujin,
I am sorry for everything. I tried my best to serve Katrina well but it seems like I am still lacking in everything. From the looks of it, my further presence may be a big bother to Katrina and little Yujin. It's okay now, you don't have to worry because I will take my leave. Katrina will no longer have to be bothered by my reckless act as you called it? I will bring more problem and danger. It will be only a nightmare, Katrina won't be spending much now and worry about me wondering around. Again, I am very sorry for not being able to be someone who I exist to be. I am also sorry for being here in the first place. But I wanted to thank Katrina and Yujin for all the things you taught me! Also Ning and Aeri :D I have gained so much through out my life as your servant and also encounter a lot of nice people! Thank you, Katrina. It makes me feel bad that I receive so much yet I have nothing in return for Katrina. But I hope that my apology and absent will be enough. And also this gift I left on your table...Farewell.

Katrina is petrified, everything is happening so fast she can't comprehend anything. She's speechless but her brain is having a massive warfare, a bloodshed massacre. She can't believe what she had just read. She accepted the fact that Winter was a stuffed bear before but why is it so hard for her to accept this?
A couple of knocks was heard and Yujin quickly launches off her and run downstairs, "Winter!" she shouts in expectation before opening the door, but her hype falters as she jumps in Aeri's arms.
"Woah there, what's going on?" Ningning stares at her with wide eyes while patting Yujin's back.
"It was true...W-Winter left!"
—
Without noticing, Katrina's tears had fallen as she raises the used to be shattered bear keychain from the pink box. It was the bear keychain she had been looking for the past week but it was not in its best condition, it was glued. The keychain shattered. But is glued together back in one piece.
"H-how..."
"Please tell us it's not true!" Someone burst into her door before she could think further. It's NIngning with teary eyes and Aeri who's surprisingly quiet the whole time, side- hugging Yujin.
"Please...?" Ningning pleads, until she saw the paper and takes it. "Fuck..." Ningning clasp her mouth, failing to fight the tears "Fuck it, Katrina!" she raises her tone, throwing the paper to Aeri's reach. "Why the fuck are you so selfish?!"
Katrina is once again speechless. She doesn't know how to argue back.
"Why do you always conclude that Winter have ill intentions against you?! Don't you know how much she appreciates you!?"
"I-"
"No, you don't!"
"Ning, calm down, you're scaring Yujin..." Aeri holds her shoulder as Yujin is trying hard to hide herself in Aeri's embrace.
"No!" Ningning frees herself from her but not too hard, nor calmly. "I've always thought that you were the wisest among us all..."
"Do you have any idea how she always ask us on how to make you happy?.." her tone finally goes down as she kneels to look at Katrina who has her head low. "Tell me..." she glances at the keychain Katrina is clutching.
"Have you ever taken the time to see any of the drawings she did for you?" that all it takes for Ningning's anger to go vanish from her face, she turns fragile. The latter finally looks up, utterly confused for a second, "What..?"
As if something deep inside Aeri churns, and burns at the same time, she releases Yujin and pulls Katrina from her seat and drags her downstairs, Katrina fires questions which she ignores all the way. As soon as she sits Katrina in one of the couch, she quick paces to the bookshelf and analyses each rows of books.
Her shifts from rows to rows until stopping at one, finally getting something that she has been looking for. Katrina tilts her head slightly when the latter grabs something from the small gap slowly until a stack of papers comes to her view.
"What is that..." she points at the stack but Aeri remains. She walks back to her and gently handing the stack to her.
"We've been told not to take a peak until you show it yourself, our apology to Winter, but..." Aeri says with a shaky breathe. Katrina glances at them each before looking down to the papers in her hand. The first page was a drawing of a stickman with a bear as its head, it was the first drawing she had ever done. She removes it, revealing a page with short but messy handwriting.
"I have learned how to write! All thanks to Katrina and Yujin!"
She flips another page.
"I really like Choco milk. But not as much as I like playing with Yujinnie, Ning and Aeri! But Rina the most! I think..."
And another page.
"I got scolded by Katrina again today for crying :( I promise not to cry again so Katrina won't be sad! And to differentiate vinegar and water."
"Yujin introduced me to this animal? Called ostrich and I really like how it runs!"
"I have been forbidden to run like an ostrich :("
If things weren't so serious, Katrina would be laughing, but she just can't, as she flips from pages to pages and the handwriting keeps getting cleaner.
"Katrina looks really tired today, I wonder what happened... I tried not to bother her and give her a good rest. But I have failed."
"I learned how to draw too! This is Katrina, Yujin and Winwin:D"
There's a doodle of a cat, a squirtle and a bear holding hands just below her writing.
Katrina chuckles sadly, all of them were doodled with a stickman. However, she stops when she flips the next page, a normal doodle of a cute cat is on it.
"I wanted to give this to Katrina hopefully she would regain a slight energy and smile but she came home today with one already on her face, she seems happy. Good then..."
The few next pages are filled with the cat doodles but without a single message written on them. It hits Katrina like a truck because there are many and she doesn't even realize that she had been ignoring Winter for that much?
"I gave Yujin, NIng and Aeri but Katrina not..."
There's a hint of pain in the page as it was short and quite dull. The next few pages are filled with bears and cats again. Guilt starting to wash over her when she reads how Winter said on the pages that she was actually sad when she wasn't supposed to because Jeno was there to keep her company though the bear had become an exchange student in their school.
"Winwin should be happy, right?"
That one page ushers her curiosity, her handwriting suddenly became messy again, as if her hand is burnt or bruised, but they were still readable.
The pages are like a disassembled diary, all of the feelings written in each pages no matter if it's sad, happy, excitement, or hurt, can be felt. However, each pages returns to her in one, guilt. She doesn't even realize that she had reached the last page.
And that last 2 pages with her last messages breaks Katrina down hard like sudden thunderclap during a sunny forecast.
"I have fixed the keychain! I thought Katrina wouldn't realize that it was missing until she starts digging all over the place for it, it must be important :( and I was so scared to tell her that I accidently threw it and shattered it... The pieces were so small and so sharp they kept penetrating my skin. I had a very hard time pulling a piece out when I misglued it... I was so scared to tell Katrina that I bled my hands too since she scolded me once for being careless and I had to pretend that I don't know where it was before it was fully fixed :( but everything is fine now! I just have to wait for the right time to give it back to Katrina and I know how to cover my scars, thank you Yujin's phone!"
Katrina suddenly remembered when she asked Winter about her bandaged hand.
"Liar..." Katrina mumbled.
"Jeno was playing with Katrina all along, I thought he could provide the happiness Katrina wanted but he was just playing. No one actually knew he fooled many people and took them for granted. He took Katrina's knowledge. I thought someone had found another keychain which is good so I can replace the one I fixed instead... But it was a trap. I feel so guilty that I had to beat Jeno, breaking one rule Katrina had set for me. She is upset."
They went down to a cold silence, no one spoke a word nor even dare to shift. Aeri and NIngning didn't know what Katrina just read but it alerts them to not say anything knowing that the tables have turned, and Katrina was wrong.
Katrina was wrong.
The next thing she realizes that she wasn't actually jealous of Winter.
She was jealous of Jeno.
"Kat!" the two shouts when it didn't take a minute for Katrina to suddenly burst out of her house without any footwear.
She runs, runs as fast as she could. Not caring if her feet were to bleed with all the stones stepped, because Winter had bleed more painful that it will be. Not caring if it'll consume every single oxygen and energy from her body, because Winter had wasted hers for her before trying to get to her. Katrina runs, runs as fast as she could, with a hope, to find Winter and to say that she needs her.

Quantum Worlds (A LitRPG dark fantasy)
Find the missing VIP in an illegal game world. Kill the monsters. Return home for the paycheck. Decorated Marine commander, Damon Williams, never thought his latest mission would take place in a full-immersion world fighting monsters… but when a high-value VIP disappears after being stealthily transported to a banned MMORPG, he's their only hope. Damon must lead a group of rescuers into an unforgiving world infested with terrifying monsters and worse. Pain is real. Death is permanent. He and his crew must adapt quickly, trust each other, and fight to survive. And if all that's not bad enough, they'll also have to race against time to avoid the realm’s disintegration and mutation effects. Quantum Worlds features race and class designations, unique creatures, dungeon crawling, level progression and Easter eggs that reference video games and pop culture. This a dark fantasy, but it also has sprinklings of humor throughout. It is a multi-cast, multi-pov story. In many ways, it is a melding of one of my favorite novels, “The Stand”, with my favourite genre, LitRPG. I don’t espouse to be anywhere near Stephen King, but I would like to think that I have succeeded in many areas here (you’ll be the judge of that). So, this thriller-style story has a lot of build-up and lots of drama. When it hits the 100-page mark, it starts to take off with some intense action and fight scenes (although there are battles long before that). Nothing comes easy for this group of rescuers. And the dangers are very real. This saga is already over 100 chapters with more to come. I hope you enjoy it and look forward to your reviews, comments, and feedback. Thanks. Chapters are uploaded every day at noon ET. Please do not repost this work anywhere without my written permission. Quantum Worlds is a participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge.

The Venatori. Having lived a life of discipline and service, former soldier Caiden Voros finds something even worse than the wars of humans: the monsters that hunt them. Wulfgard: The Hunt Never Ends is an episodic collection of stories, each of which stand on its own, but they also build upon each other in a consecutive order, bridging a gap between a novel and short story collection. These stories follow monster hunter Caiden Voros and his partner Gwen Vergil as they embark on tales of mystery, horror, and adventure to track down monsters - the living dead, beast-men, shape-shifters, spirits, and many more - that would do harm to innocent lives and, by whatever means necessary, put a stop to their terrors.
