《Jealous (Yugyeom X Reader)》Chapter 1~ Hopeful

You thought going to college was going to be one big party. Spending your weekends partying, meeting guys left and right. Making life long friends that you could tell all your problems to. Of course, the reality was much different than what Hollywood had told you. You were going into your second year of college and you had yet to even make a single friend let alone go to a party.
You were spending most of your time studying. College was much harder than you expected it to be. You thought it would be like high school except you got to pick what you wanted. Which was true except as a first year you got whatever classes were left that the upperclassmen didn't want. You had classes early in the morning and late at night, leaving only the middle of the day to yourself. You would be in class when others were out partying or sleeping in, and when you had time off others were busy in class.
Now that you were a second year you actually got a slightly better schedule and you got to take a class that was for your major and wasn't just a GE class. You were very excited, you thought you might finally have a chance to meet people and make some friends since everyone would be apart of your major.
Another thing you did like about college was that there were no uniforms and everyone dressed in comfortable clothes. So you dressed to blend in rather than stand out. Since it was the first week of classes you did, however, decide to dress nicer than normal. You hoped that you would be able to make at least one new friend by the end of the week and a boosted wardrobe would help achieve that goal.
Monday. After three classes all two hours each you failed to make a friend. No one chose to sit next to you and you were already feeling like an outcast once again. You sat alone and had no one to talk to during discussions. You hoped Tuesday might wield better results. When you woke up you were feeling down so you decided to wear your usual attire. Ripped jeans with red flannel and your favorite pair of timberlands. You generally wore your hair in a messy bun since it had grown so long, but today you choose to part it on the left side and leave it down.
As you walked from your dorm to your first of two classes for the day you mentally prepared yourself for another lonely day. Your first class was a beginning computer science class in one of the bigger lecture halls on your campus. Everyone who was in your major had to take it, so you knew the class would be packed, which gave you a little bit of hope. More people meant more chances of someone sitting next to you.
Because you get anxious very easily you always left for class much earlier than you had to. By the time you walked into the lecture hall, there was still about thirty minutes before your class began. There were only three or four other students and the TA was still setting up. You decided to sit closer to the front off to the left side. Your vision was not the best and you had to wear glasses when you were in class.
Once you sat down you pulled out the case for your glasses but kept everything else in your backpack. You didn't want to seem overly-eager since it was just the first day of class. You pulled your phone out and began to scroll away on Twitter, pretending you had someone better to do. After a few minutes had gone by you slowly began engrossed in your phone out of habit. Your surroundings faded into the background. You almost forgot you were in a classroom until you noticed someone's elbows on the desk in front of you.

You looked up and were immediately greeted with a puppy dog smile. "Hello," He said in a cheerful manner. You recognized the man as the TA who was setting up before. "Hello" You bowed your head politely. You knew this was the man who would be grating your work and you wanted to be as nice as possible. "My name is Jackson Wang. It's nice to meet you" He said with his hands holding up his head while his elbows rested on the desk. You assumed that he was not Korean based on his name. "My name is Seo Jiyoo. It's nice to meet you as well" You were surprised that the TA came up to talk to you out of the blue.
"Jiyoo... Hnn. That's a pretty name." Jackson commented. "I haven't seen you before are you a first year?" He asked curiously. You shook your head "I'm a second year, but this is the first computer science class I've taken" Suddenly Jackson leaned his head back. "Ahhhh! That's why I haven't seen you before. I try to get to know all the people in our major" A smile grew on your face. There was still hope that you could make a friend. "So where are you from?" Jackson asked leaning back into the desk. He seemed so excited now that you told him you were a second year.
"I'm from Busan" You replied not wanted to specify too much further and end up boring Jackson. "Ah that's neat, you must live in the dorms then?". You nodded "Yea live with my roommate on the other side of campus."
In your head, you thought about your roommate. She was the same age as you and also lives in Busan, but that was all that you had in common. She was a nursing major and was learning to get into medical school. Despite that she was always out parting and drinking with an array of guys, often bringing them to your room. The life she lived was what you expected college to be.
"That must be nice only having one roommate." Jackson seemed jealous by this fact. "How many roommates do you have?" You asked knowing Jackson was probably going to tell you anyway. "Six... I have six roommates" Jackson sighed with his entire body. He seems exhausted just mentioning that fact. "Speaking of, here's two of them right now" Jackson's eyes focused behind you. You turned your upper body around and saw two men entering the lecture hall and heading towards you. They waved at Jackson as they walked closer to you. "It's nice to see you both out of bed" Jackson snicked.
You couldn't help but stare at the two men standing in front of you. Neither of them looked much older than you. One of the guys was wearing a pair of sunglasses covering his eyes, and an outfit that didn't quite match the atmosphere that of going to class. "We would have gotten up eventually. Give us some credit" The man smiled. He was way to dressed up and even wearing a necklace that said bambam on it in gold. When you thought of bambam you thought of the baby front the Flintstones, you couldn't figure out why would someone have a necklace that says that though. "At least you weren't late on the first day" Jackson crossed his arms at his roommates.
The other man was wearing a black leather jacket, black turtleneck sweater, and black jeans. He was taller than the other guy and his hair was pointing in all directions. It seems liked he only recently had woken up and didn't care how he looked. For some reason, your eyes were stuck on him. He gave off an aura that screamed nervous, even though he looked like he could beat someone up in his sleep. Suddenly he looked over at you. "Who's this?" He asked in a tired tone. His eyes focused directly on you.

"This is Jiyoo, this is her first computer science class so I was saying hello" Jackson replied. You instantly felt embarrassed for no real reason. You turned your whole body to face the two men and bowed. You assumed they were your seniors since they were Jackson's roommates. "It's nice to meet you I'm Kim Yugyeom" Suddenly the taller man perked up and was very polite to you. "Hi, I go by Bambam" The other guy bowed as well. 'Ahhhh' You thought now understanding the reasoning behind the necklace.
"Well class is about to start I have to go talk to the Professor. You two should sit down before you get yelled at" Jackson smiled before walking to the other side of the room. "Is it ok if we sit here?" Bambam asked, pointing at the two seats next to you. You nodded and began to pull out your laptop while Yugyeom and Bambam took their seats.
It felt very awkward sitting next to Yugyeom and Bambam, they were both very attractive, tall and slightly intimidating. But you were thankful at least you weren't sitting alone once again. While you were opening a new google doc on your computer you felt a slight poke on your shoulder. When you turned your head you noticed Yugyeom looking at you. "Hey uhh, I forgot the laptop do you have a pen and maybe some paper I can use?" Yugyeom asked in a sheepish manner. "Uh yea, I do. " You bent down and rummaged through your backpack and pulled out your pencil case and notebook, and gave Yugyeom a pen and a few sheets of paper. "Thanks you're the best," Yugyeom said with a smile painted on his face while taking the pen and paper. You smiled back while unconsciously tucking your hair behind your ear.
The rest class flew by. Since it was just the first day the Professor didn't go over much other than the syllabus basic introductions. The class ended almost an hour early. Once the Professor left the room, everyone began to pack up their belongings, including yourself.
You knew your next wouldn't be for a while. There wasn't enough time to head back to your room. You thought about grabbing a snack but you didn't want to eat alone. Out of the corner of your eye, while you were turning off your laptop you saw Jackson talking with Yugyeom and Bambam again. You couldn't tell what they were saying since there was so much noise, but it seemed like they were going to leave together.
Suddenly Jackson looked at you and started talking "Hey Jiyoo do you have a class have this?" He asked. You shook your head. "Not for two hours." You responded unsure why he wanted to know. Jackson moved away from Yugyeom and Bambam and walked towards you. "We're meeting some of our other roommates and getting food. Do you want to come with?" At first, you weren't sure what to say. This was the first time anyone let alone a group of guys have asked you to go get food with them since you started college. In the back of your head, you were worried about being alone with a group of guys but the puppy dog look Jackson was giving you while you were trying to think was too much.
"Ok, sounds fun" You smiled while standing up, slinging your backpack over your shoulders. "Yay, You'll like Jinyoung and Mark they are super friendly." Jackson squealed with joy. "You really think Jinyoung is friendly?" Bambam snickered while walking up to you and Jackson. "Well, Mark is" Jackson corrected himself as he started walking up towards the door.
The walk to the cafeteria was slightly awkward. Jackson and Yugyeom were walking in front of you talking to one another, while you walked next to Bambam. Since you had just met it was hard to start a conversation. Eventually, you did find a common interest in your music tastes.
The entire walk you had your eyes on Yugyeom. He was standing in front of you, so all you were staring at was his back and his messy hair bouncing with every step. You couldn't even see his face, except when he turned to say something to Bambam. Even the way Yugyeom walked felt cool. He gave off a vibe that felt similar to that one guy from high school everyone wanted to date but was uninterested in any girl that tried to confess to him.
You decided to buy a drink and a custard bun since you weren't that hungry. Jackson and Bambam went off together to get jajangmyeon on the other side of the cafeteria. This was college everything was bigger than how it was in high school. There were tons of people and it was difficult to see where Jackson and Bambam could have gone. You didn't know where to meet them so you were just standing awkwardly as people walked around you.
"Hey." You looked over your left shoulder. Yugyeom had walked up from behind you. "We usually sit outside since there are fewer people" He smiled. You nodded and followed him. You noticed he also grabbed a custard bun with an iced coffee. "You like the custard buns here too?" You asked, immediately regretting it the second you finished. "Yea I'm not that hungry and something sweet sounded good" He nodded. You were glad he didn't think that was a weird question to ask.
You were able to spot Jackson very easily, mainly because he was flailing his arms around to grab your attention. He was sitting at a table for six with two open seats right next to him. Bambam was sitting on the opposite corner from Jackson, and there were two people you figured were the other roommates.
Once you were close enough the two guys you hadn't met before stood up and bowed politely and introduced themselves. "So how old are you Jiyoo?" Mark asked curiously. You ended up sitting in the middle between Jackson and Yugyeom. "I was born in ninety-seven" You replied before ripping open the package to your custard bun. "Ah, so you are the same age as me and Gyeom" Bambam commented with a mouthful of noodles. "Jinyoung and I are both born ninety-four, and Mark's the oldest born ninety-six" Jackson leaned in and joined the conversation.
You suddenly felt embarrassed. You didn't realize how much older Mark, Jackson, and Jinyoung were to you. You stood up and bowed deeper than you did the first time. "I didn't realize you were so much older than me" You apologized. Your hair was covering your eyes but you could hear the guys softly laughing. "It's ok you don't have to be so formal" Mark reassured. You looked up and saw that everyone had a big smile on their faces. "I started college late so this is only my third year here" Mark added as you took your seat. "What are you studying?" You asked curiously. "Foreign Languages" Mark suddenly laughed "I know super boring, but it's what I chose..."
"If you knew it was boring then why did you pick it?" You looked over at Jinyoung. Jinyoung seemed like the sarcastic type at first glance. "At least I can get a job when I'm done unlike you," You noticed Jinyoung squint his eyes as if he was debating whether or not if he wanted to argue with Mark. He looked away and continued to eat his food without responding to Mark.
"Hey, can we exchange numbers. It'll be nice to know someone that's smart" Bambam smiled while pulling his phone out. Jackson waved his arms out like he was offended by what Bambam said. "I'm literally your TA" Jackson looked over at Bambam. "Yea but you never just tell us the right answers. You make us do all the work ourselves" Bambam said in a whiny tone, which made you laugh. "He obviously wouldn't just give you the answers, you have to buy him food for that." Yugyeom teased. You realized they must have all been friends for a long time to talk so casually to one another.
After this topic died out Bambam turned his attention back to you. "So you'll give us your number?" He repeated. You nodded happily "Yea of course. It'll be nice to have people to study with" You read your number out loud so everyone could write it down. You started to hear your phone buzz letting you know you had received the messages the guys sent you. When you looked at the five different texts you got a better sense of everyone's personality. Jackson and Bambam were both avid users of emojis while Mark and Yugyeom were a little more reserved and only put normal smiley faces in their texts and Jinyoung, was slightly old fashion, perhaps ironically, and added a smiley face using a colon and parentheses.
Once you confirmed each number and added everyone to your contacts you set your phone back down on the table. Your brain didn't immediately register what was about to unfold, which ended up making it much longer than it needed to be. Yugyeom had both his hand on the table casually resting, and instead of putting your phone in an unoccupied space, you chose to put it right next to his hand. So when your phone left your hand you unconsciously set your right hand on top of Yugyeom's left. For most people, this was an obvious attempt at flirting with someone else but you, being the obtuse and clueless person you were, did not.
Yugyeom, on the other hand, did know this move and had started to blush, as he looked down at his own hand. In his mind he thought you were the slickest flirt ever, pretending like you weren't doing anything. It was about a full minute later when Jinyoung had finished speaking your brain had kicked in. "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't realize I put my hand on yours" Your face lit up like a Christmas tree as you turned to apologize to Yugyeom.
You couldn't believe what you had just done. The cutest guy ever sitting right next to you and you managed to be so incredibly embarrassing. Thankfully Yugyeom was a sweet guy and didn't say anything to make you feel even more embarrassed. "It's ok" He spoke in a casual but still cool tone. Your eyes met, and you realized it wasn't just your ears that had turned red. You wanted to say something more to Yugyeom but the moment quickly ended when you felt Jackson put his arm on your shoulder and leaned in and looked at Yugyeom.
"We should have a study session this weekend. We can figure out our strengths and weaknesses together at our apartment" Jackson seemed clueless about what he had interrupted between you and Yugyeom. "That sounds like a good idea" You were still looking at Yugyeom when you spoke. "Bambam and Yugyeom won't pass the class if they don't get help" Jackson added. "Hey!" Bambam yelled lightly. "Yea, We can get a C on our own!" Yugyeom finally broke eye contact with you and looked over at Jackson.
The rest of the time you spent together you talked about when you would meet up to study as well as everyone's schedule. Time had flown by quickly and you had realized you had to go to your other class. You said your goodbyes, promising that you would eat with everyone on Thursday then began walking to your class. A few minutes later you felt your phone buzz in your back pocket and saw the Bambam had texted you. 'You should follow us on Instagram' He had also added multiple emojis to his texts and the names of everyone Instagram. Of course, you wanted to add everyone back.
The day felt like a dream. You finally had some friends, plans to see them during the week and weekend. It took a whole year and two days but you finally had friends and even a crush. Yugyeom was super cute, super tall, funny, and nice. You just hoped that he might actually like you back.
