《Badass Luna》Chapter 3

Slamming the door shut to my car, I walked towards the front porch of the Barnes residence.
After I had reluctantly taken the case and 'promised' not to mess it up, the investigation for Elvis Brewster had officially begun. A background check had already been done for the man, but it was time to start investigating, which meant questioning people, which meant questioning his best friend Ryan Barnes, which is why I had slammed the door shut once we had arrived their residence.
"Will you at least try to look happy about this?" Emilia questioned noticing my clear discomfort.
"Are you joking? I'm thrilled. Let's do this" I replied with a fake enthusiasm, walking towards the front porch. Em followed silently, chuckling to herself.
The door opened before we had the chance to knock, revealing Mr. Almighty Ryan Barnes face along with his leech Mr. Jonathan Foster. Trying my best to uphold my professional face, I began with my duties.
"Mr. Barnes, Mr. Jonathan" I said curtly earning a small glare from Emilia.
"Please, call us Ryan and Jonathan" We nodded before slipping in through the door, following them towards the living room.
The house seemed awfully odd. Not just the fact that the back door lead towards the woods, but the fact that the atmosphere seemed heavy, as if a lot of people visited the house. An infinite amount of junk food was stashed in the kitchens and a room was illuminated with the light of a tv screen which highlighted the bean bag and video game controllers lying on the floor. Eventually we arrived the living room, a tense atmosphere filling the air.
The boys sat down on the couch in front of us as we did opposite them.
"So, when was the last time you saw your friend, Elvis Brewster?" Emilia began, giving me the liberty to look around the living room. There wasn't a single family photo neither were there any ornaments decorating the house. A single frame of a wolf howling up into the sky was happily displayed above the fireplace, making me even more curious than before.

"and suddenly he just-"
"Sorry to interrupt but I couldn't help but wonder, do you two live alone here?" I interrupted, Emilia's confused eye caught mine and I slightly shrugged it off focusing my attention back on a pair of confused eyes who looked at each other before they faced me again.
"Um.. well I stay over a lot, so did Elvis since we were best friends, but Ryan lives here alone here"
"So you have a house of your own?" Jonathan nods, uncertainty floating in his eyes.
"So, Elvis had a house of his own too then I suppose?" I suggested, noticing the guys tense by my every move.
"Yes..." Ryan replied. By the sweat slightly starting to form on his forehead I could tell that something was wrong. All the while Emilia didn't say a think, noticing the things I did.
"Mr. Barnes, would you mind giving us an address where we could find Mr. Brewster's house? Maybe we could check it out since it is now officially a 'crime scene' of some sorts" I questioned with cunning politeness in my voice.
"Uh- yeah s-sure I suppose so" he stuttered. I smiled wickedly, content at the fact that we might be one step closer to the end of this case.
"Great! Maybe you could take us there right now?" Ryan reluctantly nodded, elevating from his seat.
"It's not that far from here, we can just walk" I nodded, suddenly getting suspicious of his behavior. One minute he's nervous the next he's not?
We followed the boys through the back door into the woods, where they guided us through the thick branches on the floor towards what eventually was a cabin in middle of the woods.
"This is where Mr. Brewster lived?" Emilia started, as startled as I was considering the location of the house.

"Yes"
"This looks more like a holiday cabin rather than an actual home. " I commented, not sure what I was trying to insinuate.
"Elvis loved nature, that's why he chose this house." As we walked forward, the features of the cabin became clearer, the color of some of the stones was fading on the ground that covered the actual cabin. Movement was spotted inside the house as we got closer towards the front door. Then, the door flashed open, a woman in her mid twenties stood with a male child of about a year attached to her hip as she observed us.
"Al- I mean Ryan, what's going on?"
"Alina, this is Detective Walker and Lopez, they are here to investigate the disappearance of Elvis." He stated, the woman's eyes lighting up slightly as she looked back at us.
"Right, of course. Come on in" Wordlessly, we followed them inside into the living room.
"I take it you are Elvis's wife?" I guessed, earning a nod from her.
"Interesting, seems we didn't know that before. Neither did we know that Elvis had a kid. I presume he's yours and Elvis'?" she nodded again, making me curious with the slight bow she had delivered to me with her head.
"How old is he?" I questioned, lightening the mood a little.
"He just celebrated his 1st birthday a few weeks ago. Elvis was still here at the time." I nodded, noticing the slight touch of grief in her eyes.
"How long have you and Elvis been together?"
"We got married when he was 20 and I was 19, which was two years back?"
"So you were pregnant at the time of your marriage?" I questioned, slightly uncomfortable in the situation. She nodded briefly.
"Mrs. Brewster, is there any place you can think of that your husband might have gone to? Or any reason behind his disappearance?" Emilia asked from beside me. Alina's sad eyes met Emilia's as she shook her head in disappointment.
"Don't worry, we will find him" I found myself saying, feeling more confused than ever.
Were the guys saying the truth after all? Or was this all staged?

Until one night. **************************************** Note: This story is going to be very short. I would recommend reading it all at once. This story started out as a challenge I set for myself. I've recently felt bogged down because of the need to write more. That's why each chapter will be only 300 words long. Exactly 300 words long. At this point, I've pretty much written the whole thing, so I'm very confident that there will only be eight chapters.
