《Laughing Jack X Reader》Chapter 28

It seemed like forever that [Name] lay unconscious on EJs operating table. I just wanted her to be okay.
"EJ, just know, if [Name] doesn't make it. I will not hesitate to kill you."
I state bluntly as I watch LJ stitch up her chest gashes. But once I finish, he pauses, slowly lifting his head to stare at me. To which he gives a slight nod, lowering his head back down and continuing to work on [Name].
"Hey LJ, I see she's missing a finger, did you do that?"
Masky asks. God that guy was nosey.
"Yes Masky.. I did, but that was before I started caring about her.."
I grunt as I roll my eyes, hearing EJ chuckle a little. That bastard, how dare he laugh.
Screw you EJ...
"I noticed it earlier so I had Hoodie make you something. Consider it a Freddy Krueger rip off.."
Masky speaks again, handing me a weirdly shaped chunk of metal. I have no clue how Hoodie found the time to make this, but after looking at it properly, I realised what it was. It was kind of like a bracelet which extended up into a ring that could go over her stump. Then had a sharp claw like blade attached to it. Only slightly longer than the average finger.
"But just know, once you get it on her hand, it probably won't be able to come back off without needing to break her hand.."
Masky adds. To which I nod and take [Name]'s hand, forcing the bracelet on, making sure her stump was in the ring. The blade was now her new finger.
"Okay, I'm done... I'll now inject her with some adrenaline to try and wake her... but, LJ, don't think I've not noticed the blood coming from her ears. There's no way to tell yet, but be prepared she may wake up without her hearing.."

EJ speaks in a calm yet stern voice. I never understand him. It's like he has multiple personalities. But I was just thankful he was helping [Name].
I nod my head and take a deep breath as EJ injects her. After just a few seconds she suddenly takes a huge deep breath, like she was previously being suffocated and could finally breathe.
She sits up frantically and looks around, a confused expression spread across her face.
"Uh... W-where am I?... who are you people?.."
she speaks and all of gasp a little in shock. Even EJ seemed surprised. Had she...
"Do you know what your name is?"
I ask her as I watch her trying to figure things out, looking down at herself and gazing at her wounds and metal hand fixture.
"Um.. I dont- .. uh... I'm not sure... do you know who I am?"
She says looking up at me. She clearly hadn't lost her hearing.. just her memory.. She didn't look scared or upset or hurt. She just looked lost and confused. Like an abandoned puppy..
"Your name is Blade. You live here with us."
EJ suddenly speaks, lying right to her face. I didn't know how to react, I look at Masky and Hoodie but they both just shrug at me. What help they are .
"B..Blade?? Seriously?"
She questions, her face filled with disbelief. I think she even found it funny.
"We're all named after our aspects. I'm Eyeless Jack for obvious reasons. Your aspect is your hand. Hence your name."
EJ speaks once again. I can't believe how he is coping with this. I can't stop panicking. How long could we actually keep this up..
"Oh.. okay well I guess that makes sense- WAIT... EYELESS??!!"
She suddenly snaps her head at EJ in complete shock. To which EJ just laughs and nods before speaking again.

"Look. This cabin is full of monsters and murderers. You're one of them. You just had an accident. So you're going to have to learn it all again.
"Murder?!"
"Yes. It's fine, LJ will retrain you."
EJ finishes speaking and instantly starts leaving the room taking Masky and Hoodie with him. Leaving me in the room with [Name].
"I guess you're LJ?"
She asks, tilting her head. I feel like I should take advantage of this situation. If she has no memory of anything. Then I can make her believe anything I want. I create her a fake life she never had, benefiting my feelings towards her..
"I am LJ.. um. I'll show you around and teach you the ropes. But, before I do. Do you have any idea who I am ?"
I ask as I take a step closer to her. Her eyes don't move from mine as she stares at my face, trying to work out who I was.
"I'm sorry.. I don't... should I?"
I can't believe what I was about to do. But I have to do this. I feel this is the only way.
"Before your accident and before you lost your memory. We were dating and we were in love."

Draugr Cell //Layer 01-- Investiture:
With the end of the only war to ever reach mainland Australia I found myself living out of a small room in an old military compound that had been handed over to the jurisdiction of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The end of the war, unfortunately, didn't mean the end of hostilities. The terrorism trend that had started back in the early 2000's with the attack on the world trade center over in America, had spread to just about every country on the face of the planet. Over time the constant threat from various groups meant the civilian police force was quickly undermanned, under equipped, and overwhelmed. They were simply unable to respond to the daily threats in any reasonable time frame, and in many situations lacked the both the skills and equipment required to deal with the threats to put them down in a 'safe' and expedient manner. Veterans of the war that were being reintegrated into society however, were just about everywhere, all the time. We have the training and the skills required to deal with just about any threat you care to mention, all we needed was access to the equipment to do so. In a world first, under the new Veterans program, the Australian government had taken the rather controversial step of allowing specifically selected veterans to go armed in public. Sure, with Australian weapons laws being very, very strict there were a number of hurdles to get over first, but that's where the selection part comes in. Tangentially that's actually how I met Brianna, my current partner. We work as ringers in Victory City, I thought being thrown into imptomtu combat operations and risking my life on a daily basis for barely livable wages was excitement enough. Then I met her... it... I don't know. An AI unlike anything else out there has wedged itself into my life and decided it needs to... look after me. What could possibly go wrong? **** This is the first book I have released, and my first entry into a cyberpunk universe. There is minimal drug use, a fair amount of sex, a bit of gory violence, and a sultry AI that has decided the main character needs a harem.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.

Continuity
I’m writing this all down because I don’t know what else to do with it. This whole experience has been so completely insane that I must record it so people in the future can understand what is going on. Maybe someday someone else can make sense of it. Maybe that person is you, I have no idea. JR awakens from a dream to find that he is late for work! When he tries to call in, he realizes that something is not right. That’s when his friend and co-worker, Frank, calls him and informs him of what just happened to their workplace. JR finds himself in a world that grows increasingly surreal with every passing day. There are basic facts about himself are missing from his memory. When was his birthday again? Taking place in Chicago in the near future, strange buildings, strange events and stranger people populate this world on the other side of the looking glass. JR is left to struggle with his new job and new surroundings, but luckily his old friend Frank is still there to help guide him. He makes many friends who have interesting takes on life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. First alerted by Frank, JR slowly becomes aware of a danger lurking in the background that is gradually spreading despite the fact that no one else seems to notice it or acknowledge that he might be on to something. All of this combines to make the novel Continuity about fear, anxiety and paranoia in a perplexing world that seems to be both real and not real at the same time. Rumored to be about 15 chapters and less than 200 pages the novel is written in a first person perspective that breaks the forth wall and will either leave you laughing with delight or scratching your head in confusion, or maybe both!? The one thing it won’t be is boring!
