《The Pain Called Love (Kaoru x Reader)》12: Kaoru

Okay. Don't freak out Y/n. It's only a date. I've apparently been on a few of them the last year. Just because I don't remember them doesn't mean they didn't happen.
And yeah, it's only with your old crush from middle school. It's no biggie. Don't. Freak.
"DAD!" I yelled, as I sat in the middle of a mess of scattered dresses and other date like attire. I watched as my father burst into my room, a worried look on his face. "What's wrong?!" He asked, walking up and cupping my chin to get a good look at me.
"I don't know what to wear." I whined, causing him to sweatdrop. "Hun, you'll look great in anything. Kaoru adores you, it won't matter what you wear."
"He does...?" I asked, as I looked at all the clothing on my floor. My father only nodded, as he sighed. "I'll send in one of the maids to help you, they'll have a better judgement than I."
"Thanks dad."
He nodded in response, stepping out of my war zone of a bedroom and into the hall.
I took a deep breath, gasping as a sudden pain shot through my skull.
The music ended, and I took a deep breath, looking over the host clubs faces, A majority were clapping, and Kairi cheered, hugging onto my side. "That was amazing!" Tamaki shouted, running up and hugging the both of us. Kairi and I only laughed, as we made our way back to our couch, and settling back in. I placed my hand over my heart, trying to get it to settle down. That was pretty embarrassing, but I wasn't too bad at least.
"Come on, (Y/n), buck up. You were amazing." Kairi nudged me with her shoulder. I shook my head, looking to her. "I know, I know. It's just harder to sing when it's not just us." I whispered to her. I watched as Honey flipped through the menu, showing Mori all the exciting desserts he wanted to try. The twins themselves were flipping through the song book, and Kyoya only wrote in his book, eyeing me every now and then. I'm pretty sure Haruhi wanted to be anywhere but here.
"Miss Y/n are you alright? Do I need to call your father?" I was shaken from my recollection by one of the maids, I think her name was Annie. She stared at me worriedly, her hands slightly shaking.
"I'm okay, sorry about that. One of my headaches."
"Oh goodness. I was so worried, you about gave me a heart attack." She sighed a breath of relief, then smiled to me. "Let's make you pretty."
I wore (dress), and decided to style my hair like (style). Annie put light make up on my face, and finally pulled out a black pair of heels.

"Oh my, you look so gorgeous, Y/n!" Annie gasped, twirling me around to get a better look. I smiled, enjoying feeling so pretty.
"This boy, if not already, is going to be head over heels for you."
Smiling, I looked at myself in the mirror. I did look really pretty, if I do say so myself.
"Oh, I hear a car outside." Annie said, going to my window and peeking out. "Kaoru's here. Are you ready?"
Taking a deep breath, I nodded. "I think so."
We both left my mess of a room, which Annie said she would clean while I was gone. I tried protesting, but she insisted.
We met with my father down stairs, who smiled at me, and looked to the door as Hunter opened it for Kaoru.
I watched as Kaoru nervously walked in, he wore a black tux, but instead of a jacket he had a vest. His tie was a light blue, and his hair was slicked back with some hair gel.
He looked mighty fine.
As he scanned the room, his eyes met mine, and his cheeks flared red. I watched as his eyes took in every part of my outfit, head to toe. He nervously took a breath, and walked up.
"You look beautiful, Y/n." He said, as he took my hand into his and kissed the top of it. I felt my own cheeks heat up as he sent me this devilishly handsome smile, bowing. "Ready, m'lady?"
"Indeed." I giggled, waving to my father as we made our way out. I could tell by how Kaoru was carrying himself that he was nervous. He kept adjusting his tie, and fidgeting with his fingers. It was cute.
The limo ride started out a bit awkward, neither one of us knowing really what to say. I noticed how he kept stealing glances from me, but would avoid actual eye contact.
"I've been waiting to speak with you, Kaoru." I said, finally breaking the tension in the air. He sent me a curious look, shifting his body so he could face me.
"I have a lot of questions. I'm still extremely confused about a lot of things."
"I'm surprised you haven't like gone through your phone and read through texts and conversations for some answers."
"I was going to, but my dad said it would probably not be a good idea. So he kept my phone for now."
He nodded, looking me over once more.
"So, I'm guessing you know by now that we're dating?"
"Yeah. I was able to piece that together. Last I remember we weren't even friends. Now I have a boyfriend. I think that was the most shocking thing to me. How did it happen?"
He took a deep breath, smoothing back his hair. "It was kind of a rollercoaster. We went through a lot, went a month without speaking to each other." He took a breath, looking up at the roof of the limo.

"We can continue this at the restaurant." He smiled to me, as the limo pulled up to some Italian place.
I've been here before.
Have I? I don't recall being here. Hm. Maybe we've gone on a date here before.
We walked inside, the waitress taking us to our table. She gave us menus, took our drink orders then left. Kaoru and I sat in silence for a moment again, until he spoke up.
"So, any questions?"
"Yeah. How did we even become friends?"
He thought on it for a second, a smile coming to his face.
"We were assigned together for a group project. You were still living with your mom at this point. You invited me over during the weekends, where we worked on our project together. I introduced you to the host club, because we had to work there sometimes."
He continued telling me, laughing at some parts. I joined in with him on the laughter, taking a sip of my drink the waitress had brought.
We ordered our food, and just spent a few moments taking in each other's company. He was really handsome, and it seemed his nervousness went away.
"So, why did you start liking me?"
I watched his cheeks turn red, as he scratched his chin nervously.
"Well. Many reasons."
I wanted to see if he had the same reasons as Hikaru. I wanted to know how they both saw me. If they are as different as I like to think.
"Honestly? I was drawn to your curiosity. Your strength, and how selfless you are. When you had been kidnapped, you stayed strong. You found a way to keep smiling, even after a broken arm. You faced your dad with such a brave face, even though I knew you were terrified. You were able to get away from your mother, and after all the crap you've been through, you still find reasons to smile. And the more i saw it...the more I fell in love with that smile."
If my jaw could hit the floor, it would. My heart was pounding against my chest, and his amber eyes stared at me with such love and adoration. He meant every word he said.
"Kaoru." I mumbled out, as he reached across the table and grabbed my hand into his. "I want nothing more than for you to remember all of the good times we've spent together. I don't know what I would do without you, Y/n." I could feel his hand trembling, gripping mine ever so softly. I looked up into his eyes, seeing them begin to glaze over.
"Hearing you say that you didn't know me, was the worst pain I had ever experienced. I don't know what I would do if you couldn't remember."
"Kaoru." I spoke softly, squeezing his hand.
"I'm going to remember everything. I promise. I've been having moments where I remember small things." I smiled to him, and this caused him to form a small smile.
"Good, because we have more memories to make together. I don't plan on losing you."
"Your food." The waitress said, setting the plates in front of us. We spent the rest of our meal having a genuinely good time. Talking about the host club, and laughing about all sorts of things. I had a great time with Kaoru.
~~
Once we were done eating, Kaoru had ordered a lava cake to go, then we walked to the near by park.
"You know, our first date together that's where we ate, then we walked to this park." He said, looking at me. I raised my brow to him, humming in response.
"Hikaru and I kind of did you wrong. We thought you couldn't tell us apart, so you thought you were actually going on a date with him. It was me all along." He frowned, looking up at the sky. "I don't know if I wish I'd take that day back or not. Because that was the first time I kissed you. In this park." We had entered the park, and he led us to a bench swing that was vacant. We both sat, the cool wind taking off some of the heat of the day.
"We sat at this bench, where you said you were going to kiss Hikaru, but instead smashed a lava cake into my face. You told me how much of a jerk I was for trying to trick you, where I then kissed you."
His frown returned, as he opened the to go bag and stared at the cake.
"I was an idiot. I thought I had messed up and refused to talk to you for a month. I was scared you hated me."
We sat in silence for a moment, the wind being the only noise around us.
"I think...I kind of remember that." I said, as I shut my eyes. I was kind of able to form out the scenario. It seemed so familiar.
I opened my eyes, and turned to see his own eyes widened. He took a deep breath, then slowly wrapped his arms around me. "Keep remembering. Please. For me."
"I will, Kaoru. I could never forget you." I returned the hug, feeling him play with my hair.
No, how could I ever forget him.
