《The Pain Called Love (Kaoru x Reader)》10: Hikaru

"Y/n! Wake up! Your friend is here to pick you up!"
My dad knocked on my door, disturbing me from my rather peaceful slumber. "Daad." I groaned, rolling over and covering my eyes with my blanket. He simply laughed, and sat down on the edge of my bed. "Your friend Hikaru chose to take you out today to the amusement park, so dress light because it's warm out."
"Yes, dad." I smiled, sitting up. He placed his hand ontop of my head, but removed it when there was a knock on the door.
"Is she ready?"
"Not yet, let her get changed then she will be good to go." My dad placed a kiss to my forehead, then stepped out. I took the chance to get up, tame my wild head of hair, and find something nice to wear.
I decided on some designed leggings that were black and white, and a plain white crop top. I also pulled my hair up into a pony tail (if its short leave it down), then finally decided on putting on a cap to keep the sun from my eyes.
"Okay!" I shouted, pulling on some sneakers and opening my door. There stood the older of the two twins, Hikaru. He wore a light blue tee-shirt, with some black shorts that reached his knees, and sandals. When he heard my door open, he glanced back at me, and smiled. "Ready?" He asked, to which I nodded.
"Alright, the limo's waiting outside for us." He said, waving and leading me down the stairs. From there we went outside, and he held the limo door open for me.
"Thank you." I smiled, and scooted into the limo. He slid in beside me, closing the door and telling the driver where we were heading.
"So, an amusement park?" I smirked to him, to which he nodded. "Yup. Cause, who said we can't have fun while trying to remember?"
"You know, you're a lot less moody than I figured."
"Well, that's because I consider you someone worth keeping around. And..." His happy mood turned to something dark, as he gripped the edge of the seat. He took a deep breath, his hair covering his eyes.
"I don't want you to forget about me."
"Hikaru." I frowned, placing my hand ontop of his, and feeling it tense up more. He turned to look at me, a small emptiness in his eyes.
I went to speak, but my breath caught as that sharp pain returned. I leaned forward, clutching onto my head and groaning.
"Y/n?!"
The three boys sitting at my table all went red, and each stammered. "U-Uh, i-it's okay! W-We-"
"Were just getting ready for the shift change. Move it boys, I've paid for an alone session with your dear (Y/n)." Kairi walked up, pulling back on the boys chairs, and nearly kicking them away from my table. I laughed, watching her sit. "I've never known you to be so shy."
"Please don't start." I laughed, taking a sip of my tea.
"I came here for a specific reason, I found what dress you should wear. I already called the store and had it put on hold, here look." She pulled out her phone, and pulled up a picture of a beautiful orange dress.

After almost 2 years, she still knew me so well.
Gasping, I looked at Hikaru, who had both of his hands gripping onto my forearms. He looked into my eyes worriedly, scanning to see if anything was wrong.
"Are you okay?" He huffed out, letting go of me. I nodded, rubbing my head.
"I think so. Sorry about that." I laughed, straightening out my hat and leaning back against the seat. He only gave me a worried glance. "If you don't feel up to going.."
"No! I'm fine. I just get small headaches every now and then. I'm fine." I pleaded, making him sigh in defeat.
"Okay. Just, let me know if you need a break or something." He smiled lightly to me, and I nodded.
I never would have guessed Hikaru would be this caring towards someone other than his brother. I wonder how close we've grown.
"I do ask you for a request." Hikaru suddenly broke the silence, looking at me. I raised my brow, and he took a breath. "No questions about Kaoru. This is about learning about me."
"Okay, I can manage that."
Darn, I was hoping he could answer some things.
"We're here." He grinned, pointing out the window towards the park. I smiled, leaning over him slightly to get a better look. "Oh, wow! I've never actually been to one of these places."
"R-Really?" He choked out. I looked at him, noticing I was practically in his lap trying to lean out the window. I back up, my face red as I laughed. "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to squish you."
"N-no, you're fine." He cleared his throat, and quickly left the limo when the driver opened the door for us. I stepped out behind him, and followed him up to the ticket booth where he paid for the both of us, and walked us inside.
"What do you want to ride first?" He asked, glancing at all of the attractions. I only shrugged in reply, looking around as well. "Hm." I placed a finger on my mouth as I observed the park.
"Oh! Let's go to that arcade over there!" I pointed to a large tent, that held a dozen arcade machines inside. He only smiled in return, and grabbed my wrist to run over.
"Alright! Ready to get your butt kicked?"
"Bring it on, ginger." I laughed, as we made our way to the first machine. But, I couldn't help this aching feeling in my stomach. Hikaru must have noticed, because he turned, giving me a concerned look.
"What's wrong?"
"Hikaru, why do you seem so close to me? I knew that before this, I was minimal in your life. Why am I so important, now?"
He thought on it for a second, staring at me, then the machine, then the ceiling, then back to me.
"To be honest, I don't know. Honestly you became friends with Kaoru first, and he started taking about you all the time and it irritated the crap outta me. I didn't like that my brothers attention was being taken away." He smiled to himself. I only raised a brow to his weird answer.

"I got jealous of you, because I thought my brother was gonna leave me. But, then you showed me that you didn't only care for him, but me too. For some reason I grew comfortable around you, and whenever anyone hurt you, or I knew you were upset I just had this overwhelming urge to protect you."
"Hikaru." I muttered, staring into his amber eyes. He only gave me a small smirk.
"To be honest, I started becoming jealous of Kaoru. Because I soon realized how much I liked you as well."
What?
"Hey! Let's get to some butt kicking!" He grinned, putting in the money and started the game, completely bypassing the last thing he said. I was gonna go along with it for now, but I wasn't gonna let him slide.

We had been here for about three hours now. The sun was up, blazing. We had surrendered to some picnic tables that had umbrellas so we could cool off for a bit.
"Stay right here and I'll get us some ice cream. I assume you want (fav flavor)?"
"Yes, please." I smiled, watching as his figure retreated away.
I still couldn't get over what Hikaru said. I'm supposedly dating Kaoru, but he likes me as well? I mean, I guess they kind of share the same mind.
No, that's insensitive. I know they're different people. I just don't understand why-
'I don't want you to forget about me.'
What he said in the car. I wonder how much he was actually struggling with all of this, and if what he said was true then I doubt he can even confide in his brother.
"Hey there, about time your boyfriend left, I've had my eye on you all day."
A sickening deep voice suddenly whispered against my ear, sending chills down my spine. I pulled away from the man, now standing on my guard.
He had a rigid five o'clock shadow. His hair was greasy, and he smelled of cigarettes. He tried reaching for me again, but I stepped back.
"Pretty brave to pull some sick move out in public."
"Nobody cares about some rich brat." He spat, grabbing ahold of my wrist. I winced, clenching my fist to meet his face, but something else met it first.
The man let go, trying to smear the ice cream from his face. He growled, and looked towards Hikaru.
"Hey buddy, how about you either leave, or I call the cops after kicking your a-"
"Ha! You're puny! What are you gonna do?!" He laughed in Hikaru's face.
"Hikaru, just call the cops. I don't want you getting hurt-"
"No! I can defend myself!" He growled, and hurled a punch towards the man, who only caught his fist.
"Now you're gonna listen here little boy. I'm gonna take your little friend home, enjoy a nice drink with her and then show her how a real man is."
His eyes were wide, as he stared at me. I glared, and went to yell, but was stopped when the man was suddenly on his rear.
"You will NOT touch her!" Hikaru panted. He had socked the man in the face, then grabbed my wrist so we could run. He was panting as he pulled me between two attractions.
"Y/n, I'm so sorry are you okay?" He huffed, cupping my face into his hands. I simply nodded, frowning.
"Are you okay? Did he hurt your hand?"
"No, I'm fine. I'm sorry I'm no martial artist like honey and Mori. I wish I could have done more." He frowned, his gaze falling down.
That's when I realized how tight of a space we were in. Our bodies were pressed together, and I could smell his cologne.
I hope I put on some perfume.
Ugh, this is Hikaru! What am I thinking!
"It's okay, you still helped me, and protected me. Plus, his face was hilarious when you smashed the ice cream into it." I tried to lighten the mood, which seemed to work because he was now smiling.
"Hikaru, can I ask you something?"
"Of course." He finally looked back up to meet my gaze.
"You said you liked me earlier, or used to, why?"
He let out a long sigh, his fingers combing some sweat out of his hair.
"How do I put this?" He pondered, trying to find the answer in the sky.
"You broke all of my expectations. I expected you to confuse Kaoru and I, but you didn't. I expected you to be some fan girl freaking out over the host club, but you didn't. I expected you to steal my brother away, but you didn't. You're always accepting, and would do anything for your friends. I can see all the pain you've been through, and instead of becoming weak you became strong. I guess I just admire you?" He ended his statement with a question, still not meeting my eyes.
"I was always jealous of you because Kaoru gave you all his attention, but now I'm jealous of Kaoru because he gets all of your attention. And yet, you still make sure you have time for your friends." He shook his head, and looked down at me.
"But, Kaoru would kill me if he found out. So I never said anything to anybody. Please don't tell him."
"Hikaru..."
Why was my heart aching?
Why does he look so hurt every time he looks at me?
Hikaru.
He must have just realized how close we were, because his face had suddenly gone red and he was trying to step back.
"I'm sorry! I didn't realize!"
"It's okay, come on, we still have a few more rides to try out." I smiled to him, breaking the tension. I could tell he was thankful, because he smiled back and led us out of the little hole.
I'm sorry, Hikaru.
I hope I haven't caused you any pain.

In a stroke of rare luck, Rune is admitted into the program and happily submits himself to the surgery and digitization process. Unfortunately for him, he wakes up several hundred years later than he expected... or does he? **Author's Note** This isn't a type of story typical to RRL. You may have noticed LitRPG in the tags, but it's a relatively minor element in the story until later. You may also notice Slice of Life is in the tags. This story is going to be slow and there won't be any power tripping until way later if at all. The focus will be on character development. That doesn't mean I won't still have action/excitement, however. I encourage you to give the story a try. Maybe it will be your thing, maybe it won't. Thanks for even taking the time to read this, and if you do give my fiction a try, I hope you enjoy it. If you don't, well, I hope you find something that you do enjoy. Happy reading!
