《The Pain Called Love (Kaoru x Reader)》5: The New Host

I woke up with a start, my alarm clock catching me off guard. For once I was actually sleeping really good. Sighing, I threw off my blankets, and went to go do my usual morning routine.
By the time I got to school, I had grown this uneasy feeling in my stomach. Like, today was going to go rather unexpected. I don't know, but I didn't like it.
Taking a deep breath, I ignored this gut feeling and went to my locker. Humming lightly, I put in my combination and opened the small metal door. Weird, I was slightly brought back to the days when I would open the door to a little envelope, or a rose. I miss those days.
Sighing, I grabbed my needed books and shut my locker. The bell was to ring soon, and I didn't want to be late.
"Excuse me?" My attention was taken by someone tapping my shoulder. I turned, coming face to face with a rather pretty girl, though, a girl I've never seen here before. And trust me, I would have noticed.
She had beautiful ebony skin, that was highlighted by her bold purple hair. Her eyes were a mysterious grey, and she put off such a confident aura. I smiled to the girl, and nodded. "May I help you?"
"I'm a bit lost in this maze of a school, could you direct me to the main office? I've been searching for ten minutes." Chuckling slightly, I nodded, and pointed down the hall. "Follow me."
"Thank you." She groaned a sigh of relief, happily following me down the long corridor. "Oh, pardon me, but my names Cherise Rhodes. I'm transferring over her from Lobelia Girls Academy. They're just..too much." She rolled her eyes, and I nodded, laughing. "I've encountered three of the girls from there, from the...what was it called...Zuka Club?"
"Oh my- do NOT get me started on that stupid club. I just hope this school doesn't have something like that here."
I gulped a little, rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly. "W-Well. We do have one weird club."
"Oh?"
"And I might be in it?"
"Uh huh."
"Oh! how rude of me not to introduce myself, my names (Y/n) (L/n), and I am the only female member of Ouran Academy's host club!"
She stopped walking, staring blankly at me. I couldn't read the expression on her face. Maybe I shouldn't have told her? The next thing she did took me by surprise, she just started laughing.
"I like you, you are very much now my new friend." She wiped a fake tear away, and walked up, wrapping an arm around my neck. "I guess you'll have to show me this host club. You say you're the only female host?"
"Yeah, we are actually looking for a new host, maybe you should apply?"
"I'll think about it." I heard the bell sound off for first class, but I was sure the people at the office would write me a pass.

"You know, I have a fiance at this school. I actually partially came here to look for him."
"Oh, neat! I hope you find him!"
"Thank you. I'm just worried, because he's so secluded. He never noticed me whenever our moms tried to get us to meet, and just never seemed to care. I wonder if he even remembers I'm his fiancee." She sighed, now growing a bit sad. I frowned for her, patting her back. "Hey, it'll be okay. You really like him, right?"
"I do."
"Then, we will just have to make him like you back." I smiled, this seemed to ease her worries a bit, as she grinned again. "Thank you, (Y/n)."
"Well, this is the office. If you see me in the lunch room, I'll save you a spot, okay?"
"Thanks, I appreciate it!"
We walked in, and I grabbed a pass from the front desk. I made my way back out, saying a quick goodbye to Cherise, and did a slight jog back to class. I was only about five minutes late, and the teacher happily accepted my pass and let me sit down. Class presumed as normal.
~~
I didn't see Cherise at lunch, sadly. I think the guys would have liked her. Oh well, maybe I'll see her tomorrow.
I made my way back to my locker, to put up my books, when I saw a familiar purple haired girl. When she saw me approaching, she quickly jumped up, waving. "Hey girl!"
"Hey! I didn't see you at all the rest of the day."
"I know, sorry about that. I went to meet you at lunch, but the teacher had me eat in the classroom while he went over what I've missed and need to catch up on. It was a snooze fest."
"I bet. Wanna join me to the host club? I told the guys I had a potential new member, and they are excited to meet you."
"Sure! Let's go." She smiled, and waited as I dropped off my books into my locker. As we made our way up the countless flights of stairs, we finally stopped infront of the music room doors, where I slowly placed my hand on the door handle.
"Now, these guys can be a bit...much. But, you get used to them. And, beware of the fangirls, they can be a bit crazy."
"Noted." She smiled, and watched as I pushed open the doors. I saw Tamaki and Kyoya talking in the middle of the room, going over something in a book. When the door creaked, they both looked up at me, Tamaki grinning.
"Hey, there you are! Did you bring that person?" He asked, walking up to me. I nodded, pushing open the other door to reveal Cherise, who smiled, and waved. "Hey, my names Cherise. I just started school here today, transferring over from Lobelia."
"O-Oh? You're from..Lobelia.." I could already see the doubt in Tamaki's eyes.

"No, wait Tamaki Senpai. Before you start judging, she left because the school was a bit much. She didn't like it there. And, she also has a fiance here, but that's beside the point." I quickly tried to explain, seeing him raise his brow.
"Well, let's just see how her hosting skills are. We can bring in a boy and you will just host them, show them your charm."
"Easy." She smiled. I couldn't help but smile with her, giving my new friend a high five.
"Uhm, (Y/n), can I speak with you for a second?"
"Hm? Sure, Kyoya." I gave a glance to Tamaki, who only shrugged. Walking over to Kyoya, I saw him glance up at Cherise, then down at his computer screen. "I was doing a little research on your friend, did she tell you who her fiance was, by chance?"
"No, why?"
He went to speak, but the sudden thump of the club room doors opening up stopped him. In walked the twins, panting. "Sorry we're late, boss!" Hikaru said, glaring at Kaoru.
"Kaoru was being a pain. I had to almost drag him here."
"It's fine, just don't be late again."
I furrowed my brows, scanning the room. Hikaru composed himself, sending me a small wave, but Kaoru huffed in annoyance.
The room was silent for a second, until Cherise spoke up.
"Kaoru...Hitachiin?"
The purple haired girl walked up to Kaoru, taking the ginger by surprise. He observed her for a second, then something clicked.
"Oh no. NO, no no. You're-"
"Cherise! Your finacee!" She cheered happily. My face about matched Kaoru's. Shock, and fear. He looked over at me, trying to send some sort of telepathic message. Cherise was now infront of him, going on about something about their childhood. Though, he didn't break eye contact with me. My shocked expression turned to one of sorrow, and I looked away.
"Y-You're engaged to Kaoru?" Tamaki finally asked her, and she nodded.
"Our parents are really good friends, and our moms have had thing engagement going on since we were like, five! I can't believe you actually remember me, though!"
"Kaoru, how come this isn't listed in your files?" Kyoya asked. Kaoru only shrugged.
"Maybe my mom never bothered to have it recorded? That seems like something she would do. But, I-I can't do-"
"I'm so happy for you, Kaoru." I spoke through my hair, that covered my face. Kaoru looked at me in more shock. "Huh?"
"No wonder it didn't work out. You were engaged. Silly me. Ha ha. Made a fool, once again." I looked up at him, surprised I wasn't crying.
I didn't feel sad.
I didn't feel upset, or angry.
I felt...numb.
I drowned out the rest of whatever they all were talking about, and went off to sit in a corner. I needed to think. About what? I don't know. Just, anything.
~~
"Well, then I guess it's decided. Welcome to the Host Club, Cherise!" Tamaki awkwardly announced, sending the girl into a fit of happiness. She looked over at everyone, but her expression saddened when she looked at me.
Please don't walk over here.
"(Y/n)? What's wrong?"
"Since you're a host now, I guess we can tell you." Hikaru said, walking to my side, speaking for me.
"(Y/n) and Kaoru are...were...I don't know, they got into a fight a week ago, but they are a couple. It's a secret from everyone outside of the host club, but they've been together since the end of last year. They never officially broke up, so that's why she's upset."
"Oh...I uh...I'm sorry, (Y/n), I had no idea.." She rubbed her arm, looking down to the floor in a bit of shame. I only sighed, and stood up, pulling her into a hug. This took her by shock, but she returned the gesture.
"I'm not upset with you. I'm upset with Kaoru. He should have told me, before I feel so hard for him. It's not your fault."
"(Y/n)! I had forgotten! That was so long ago, I doubt it even matters anymore! I haven't seen this girl in years! She's lucky I remember her!" He shouted across the room, angry. I scoffed, feeling my shoulder grow slightly wet. Was she..crying?
"You're a jerk, Kaoru! She was so excited to see you again and you speak to her like this?!"
"YOU'RE MY GIRLFRIEND WHY ARE YOU OKAY WITH THIS?!"
"AM I?!" I screamed back. Cherise had pulled away from me, wiping away at her cheeks. "Come on, (Y/n), let's go catch a movie or something. Who needs him?" She smiled, making me smile as well.
That numbness seemed to fade, as Cherise pulled me out of the club room. I was so surprised, I'd figured she would have hated me for dating Kaoru. But, it seems she was just as mad at him as I was.
"I'm going to break off the engagement." She said as we walked out of the school. I looked at her, surprised. "What?"
"I don't want to get in the way of someone elses happiness, (Y/n). I get that you two are kind of in the middle of a fight, but I'm not going to be the wedge that officially breaks it off. I can tell by how you were looking at him, and how he was looking at you, how much you really love him."
"But, what about you?"
"I was infatuated by him, but I don't know who he is, not like you do." She smiled to me, the sunlight making her purple locks shine. She was so amazing. So understanding.
"So, don't worry about me, okay? Just worry about knocking some sense into that idiot. I'll just be on the sidelines, cheering you on the entire way."
"Thank you." I smiled, pulling her into another hug.
I wasn't sure about this girl at first, but I could tell, that from today on I made a new friend. And this one, I'll cherish until my last breath.
