《Legends meet the 100》Chapter 9

"Good", Lexa stated while she was walking with Clarke towards her tent that some of Indra's warriors had sat up. "We will have to keep a very close eye on them, but separating them will give us leverage in case they attack us."
"You are right, but I also think that their leader was honest", Clarke mentioned. "They are not here to fight us. Plus, they wouldn't be able to do a lot of damage. They're only nine people against a whole army of grounders."
"We don't know if there are more people waiting up there for a signal to come down and attack", Lexa remarked.
"No, we don't, but that team is a little strange, don't you think so? If it were me and I had to choose people to scout this place, I would probably choose someone else. Maybe someone who actually listens to orders."
Lexa looked at the blonde next to her. She had a point.
The night passed without any further interruptions. The group that was going to travel to Polis was up and ready to leave shortly after sunrise. Most of the grounders and legends were too tired to talk. Mick was the only one who was speaking. He was complaining about having been woken up too early and not having been allowed to drink any beer before their departure or bringing any for the trip. He fell silent after a while.
As the sun rose higher, conversations picked up. The legends mostly kept to themselves. Most of the grounders didn't understand English anyway. The few who did seemed to not want to speak with any of the legends. But they didn't mind. The coffee had worn off a while ago and walking in silence for hours had made most of them a little sleepy. John was silently cursing the fact that he had been smoking for so long. He wasn't used to walking this much. He cursed loudly when he accidentally stepped into a hole and rolled his ankle. This caught Sara's attention. "What's wrong?" John snorted in response. "I didn't spend years of my life living in the wild and being trained in this kind of environment by the League of Assassins." "I wasn't living in the wild", Sara objected. "But you know what I mean", John said. "And I just rolled my bloody ankle!", he added. Sara looked at him. "Are you alright? We can stop for a while if you need a break." "Don't worry, love", John rejected to offer. "I've been through worse than this. And don't even think about having anyone carry me. Especially not Mick." "Don't worry. I wouldn't carry you anyways", Mick stated. "But seriously, I don't need anyone to get injured on this trip", Sara voiced her concern. "Especially now, when we are not going to return to the Waverider for a while and Gideon can't heal anyone." John nodded.

Sudden noise caught their attention. Something was happening in the front. Sara left the legends and made her way over to the Commander. "What is happening", she asked. The Commander was talking to one of her people. After the warrior was done talking, the Commander gave him orders in their language. The warrior nodded obediently and left. Lexa turned around to face the captain of the Waverider. "My scouts have sighted a group of Skaikru people who are headed our way." "What does that mean? Are they going to attack?", Sara wanted to know. "I am afraid so", the Commander replied with a barely audible bitterness in the voice. "I have tried to avoid a war with them. Your ship has probably drawn them here." Sara didn't say anything in return. She just nodded and turned around to walk back to her team. As she made a step forward she nearly collided with Clarke who was on her way to talk to the Commander. They exchanged awkward apologies. Then Sara returned to her team.
"So what's going on, captain?", Nate asked. "Apparently, we are being attacked." "By who", Charlie asked. "I'm not entirely sure", Sara admitted. "Sounded like they are on the brink of a war with one of their clans." "Do we know how many people are coming?" Astra wanted to know. Sara shook her head. "But we won't do anything. For now, I want them to believe that we are normal people who are from space. I don't want us to get dragged into this conflict." "But we can't just do nothing and watch them fight", Nate objected. "I'm sorry, Nate, but we will have to sit this fight out. There are a lot of trained warriors here. They should be fine without us." "I agree with haircut", Mick spoke up surprisingly. "You -- you do?", Nate stammered. "Yes, we have to help them. And I want to shoot someone", he added. Sara was about to say something when they heard shots.

"I thought they don't have guns", Astra wondered. "I don't think they do. But our attackers do", John pointed at a spot a few yards in front of them between two trees. A person was standing there with a gun. More shots were coming out of other directions. The grounders and the legends were surrounded. The legends turned their heads and looked at Sara. She sighed, "Fine, let's go and help them." Nate steeled up right away which drew some confused looks from the grounders. Mick had pulled out his gun and was running towards the direction where the shots were coming from. It was a miracle that he didn't get hit by any bullets. Sara looked at Charlie with a frustrated look on her face. Then they ran after Nate and Mick followed by John and Astra.
Lexa had sent a group of her warriors to approach the shooters from behind before they had arrived here and started shooting. She was hiding behind a tree when she heard shouts. They were coming from the direction where she had seen the legends for the last time before they had been attacked. But she couldn't see them now. Suddenly, she saw movements not far from where the legends had been. Then she realized that there were no shots coming out of that direction anymore. What was happening over there?
Clarke was using a large stone as cover from a few of Skaikru people who were shooting at her. She knew that her people hated the grounders. But she hadn't thought that they would also shoot at her. Suddenly, her people stopped shooting at her. Instead, she heard three thuds of bodies hitting the ground within a few seconds. When she peeked over the stone to get a look at what was happening, she caught a glimpse of the legends' captain. She was fighting a woman. After a few short seconds, the woman's body hit the ground.
