《Meeting the Gangleader》Chapter 3

*Brittany's P.O.V*
We walk up to the bouncers at the main entrance and smile at them.
The bouncer looks at Bec and smiles.
He moves to the side and lets us in, not even asking for our ID's.
We walk in and Bec laughs.
"Well that was pretty easy." Bec says.
Alice and I nod in agreement.
"Only because your boobs are barely covered," I add teasingly.
She laughs and hits my shoulder lightly.
"Bitch," she insults, and I just laugh.
As soon as we enter the club, we go directly to the bar.
When the bartender comes over, we all order shots, except Alice because she's the designated driver.
He cards us and I hold my breath hoping our ID's work.
As he nods and gives us our cards back, I let go of the breath I was holding
We stand in a silence until our drinks arrive.
We pay the bartender, and Alice takes my keys from me before Rebecca and I both down our shots.
The alcohol burns as it goes down my throat and I welcome the feeling.
It's good to drop my good girl act sometimes, and to just let go.
I mean, as the saying goes, good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught.
We look around the club and I feel my heart beat falter.
The first guy I notice makes me struggle to obtain air.
He is absolutely the sexiest guy I have ever seen.
"Bec, Allie, look at him. He is hot." I grab their arms and gesture towards where he's standing.
Allie whistles when she sees him, and Bec laughs.
"Go talk to him."
I look at her like she's crazy.
"Me? No. I'm incredibly shy."
But you can be anyone you want to be tonight.
"Come on Brit, you got this!" Allie urges.
I shake my head and laugh.
"Alice," I say seriously, not using her nickname, "Absolutely. Not."
She laughs at me and I feel my face start to heat up.
"Why not?" She questions, and I sigh.
"Maybe later, but I gotta pee. Meet you guys on the dance floor?" I suggest.
They nod their heads, but before I turn to go to the bathroom I notice them share a secretive look, like they knew who the mystery guy was.
I'm probably just imagining it, so I shake it off and start walking to the bathroom.
I walk with my head down, not trying to attract any attention since I'm alone, and just as I thought I was safe, some one grabs my butt.
I turn around and slap the guy across the face.
"Don't touch me, perv." I snarl with disgust.
The guy, who looks in about his late 30's, just looks at me and laughs.
He grabs my arm and starts walking towards a fire exit that's near the bathroom.
Is anybody seeing this? Why is no one trying to help me?
"GET YOUR HANDS OFF OF ME," I say trying to sound like a threat.
He just continues walking to the exit.
He has crooked yellow teeth, brown eyes, and greasy black hair.
"Help me!" I scream, but no one hears since the music is so loud.
"Hel-" He shoves his dirty hand over my mouth before I can scream louder and pushes me out of the exit door in to a dark alley.
Wow, great. This is just like every single movie now.
I struggle against him, but his grip doesn't loosen.
Why is no one noticing me struggling against him? Why is there an exit in the middle of the bar?

He pushes me against a cold brick wall, and moves to touch me again.
This time, I take a different approach.
I slap him with my purse.
Once again, he just laughs and grabs my hands, pulling them above my head.
I struggle against him once again, but the results aren't different.
Then I think of an idea that could potentially work.
Come on, just get a little closer.
He presses his revolting body against me, and his breath reeks of alcohol.
He leans in to kiss me, and I take my chance, and bring my knee up as hard as I can, hitting him right is his privates.
1 point for me.
He bends down and holds his groin in pain, and I slip by him and try to open the door.
It won't open.
Why won't it open!
I turn around and start to run towards the front of the building, but he grabs my wrist and spins me around.
He slams me against the door, this time not smiling.
"You'll regret that later, baby." He whispers and it makes me gag.
1 point for him.
He pushes his body against mine, and once again tries to kiss me.
Ewh, he just called me baby.
I move my face to the side, and he kisses my right cheek.
He backs up slightly, and my face is snapped to the left as his open hand connects with my right cheek.
Another point for him.
My cheek stings in pain, and my hand shoots up to my cheek.
I should be used to this by now, but this guy was strong.
Tears start to fall down my face, ruining my gorgeous makeup that Rebecca took her time to do.
I try to back up farther against the wall when he starts to close the little space between us again.
This is the part in the movie where the prince comes in and saves the princess. Well in this case, a guy comes in and saves me.
My thoughts are cut off but a voice, that isn't the perverts.
"I wouldn't do that, if I were you." A deep voice says.
The perverts neck snaps towards the voice, and suddenly his face fills with fear.
I look towards the voice but can't see anyone.
Maybe they're here to help me!
The guy slowly starts to back away, then turns and runs as fast as he can down the alley.
Once he's gone, I turn to face where the sound came from again, but still can't see anyone.
Is the person still there? Did they leave?
That's when the sexy guy from the bar steps in to the light.
I quickly wipe my face, trying to get the tears off of my face, and fix my makeup as best I can without a mirror.
I stare at him in shock, and happiness.
This hot guy from the bar just saved me from getting raped by a dirty old man.
He has brown hair that's naturally spiked up, and I can't quite see his eyes because of the darkness, but they seem like they're green.
He's wearing denim jeans, a tight white tee-shirt accentuating his abs and muscles, a flannel tied around his waist, and a black leather jacket.
He smirks slightly, "Are you done eye-raping me?"
Oh, great. I was caught.
I blush and look down shyly.
"I wasn't eye-raping you..."
He laughs slightly and I forget how to breath.
His laugh is so deep and sexy.
Why is everything he does sexy?
He walks closer to me, and my eyes shift up to his face again, scared of what he might do.

I back away from him.
He stops where he is, seeming to remember the guy that I just was with.
"Oh, yeah. Sorry. I won't hurt you or anything. I'm Adam." He smiles at me and takes a small step towards me holding his hand out.
I smile slightly.
"I'm Brittany, it's nice to meet you," I put my hand in his and feel tingles run through the area where we're touching.
He brings my hand up to his lips and gently kisses my knuckles.
"It's nice to meet you," he whispers.
He walks closer to me, letting go of my hand, and is soon standing right in front of me.
I have to look up to look at his face considering how tall he is.
"How tall are you?" I didn't mean to say it, but it just kinda popped out. Oops.
"Uhm... I'm 6'2? Why?" He runs a hand through his hair, and I practically die because of how hot it was.
"Uh-uhm... Jus-just wondering..." I stutter awkwardly.
He just laughs, grabs my hand and starts pulling me beside him.
I pull my hand out of his grasp, ignoring the tingles and butterflies, and back away.
He turns around and raises an eyebrow.
"Are you coming?"
I shake my head.
"No, you're just trying to get me alone." I reply.
He looks around, then looks back at me and smirks.
"Princess, it seems I already have."
Princess?
I feel my heart flutter just at that simple nickname.
I blush once I realize that he is right and we are alone, and I walk towards him, keeping my head down.
"Oh. Yeah."
He laughs and starts to walk again, with me beside him.
"Where are we going?" I ask.
"I'm taking you home. I mean, unless you have your keys." He replies immediately.
"My friend Alice has them, she's the designated driver. I'll just call a cab I don't want to bother you. And you are a stranger."
"Do you want me to go get Alice?" He asks.
"No, I don't wanna ruin there time. They insisted on going tonight so we could let loose. I'll just get a cab." I reply.
"Look, I was leaving anyways. Can I just take you? It wouldn't be a proble, honestly. You seem a little tired anyways. I'd feel safer taking you myself."
I hesitate, but finally give in and nod once, following behind him to his car.
We finally get to a parking garage about a few blocks over, and he leads me to a black ferrari.
I stare at his car in awe.
Walking over to his car, I lightly run my hand over the hood.
What can I say? I've always had a thing for cars.
I look back up at him and he's just staring at me, smiling.
"What?" I say.
He just shakes his head and motions to his car.
"You like cars?" His eyes show amusement and he seems shocked.
I nod my head violently like an over excited child.
"Of course!" I walk over to the door, open it and slide on to the black leather seats.
Does everything have to be black with this guy?
He gets in behind the wheel and turns the car on.
"Well, I'm definitely into cars as well. This has been my prized possession since I was 16." He said with a small smile, and a look that told me he was thinking back to that time in his life. "Those were the days." He finished, and his smile turned sad before wiping completely off of his face.
I lean my head against his car door and watch him as he pulls out of the parking lot and starts the drive to my house.
While I'm studying him I can tell he definitely has green eyes. They're so pretty.
He has a sharp jaw line, and full pink lips that look soft.
Mhh, I could kis-
"Hello?" He waves one hand in front of my face, still watching the road.
I shake my head clearing my thoughts.
"Did you say something?" I ask.
He chuckles, "Didn't your mom ever tell you not to get in cars with strangers?"
I feel uneasy talking about my mom but force a laugh.
"Yes, but I'm a big girl now. I take care of myself. But you don't seem like you're all that bad. Plus, you're the one that talked me in to this." I answer, trying to avoid the topic of my mom.
"That would be like telling someone that it was a good idea to get in to a white van with a stranger just because the stranger offered them candy." He replies, glancing over at me quickly.
"Well, you did save me... And hey, if they had the right candy it might be worth it." I say, jokingly.
"I don't have candy, but I can offer coffee?" He questions.
"Are you asking me to have coffee with you?" I say, with a small smile.
"If you say yes, then yes I am offering, but if it's a no, then no I'm definitely not offering."
"Well, I guess you aren't offering then, since I only drink hot chocolate." I say, hinting for him to ask if I wanted to get hot chocolate instead.
"Well, can I take you to get some? I know this cafe down town that sells really good hot chocolate. Plus it's open really late. " He glances over at me, smiling.
"You must be out late a lot then, huh? But yes, I'll go with you. And yeah, I would assume it's open late, considering it's like 12."
Why am I rambling?
"You have no idea," He mumbles quietly.
I don't think I was supposed to hear him, so I don't respond.
After that, he turns on to the street that takes us down town, and we stay silent.
Once we arrive, he parks on the street, and gets out.
I, of course, do the same, and we walk in to the cafe, which is called Java Have It, and sit in a booth towards the back of the store.
"So how old are you?" He questions with a glint in his eyes.
"I'm 18," I say, before I realize that I was just at a club and I should be 21.
Oops...
"Really? Huh, you look older. I'm 21." He smiles at me, and I find myself returning the smile.
"Thanks, I guess. I get that a lot actually." I tilt my head to the side, and he's about to respond when the waitress comes over.
She looks like she's in her late 40's and she smiles at us.
"I'm Caroline, what would you like?" She says, cheerfully.
"She wants hot chocolate, and I will take a coffee, black." He orders for us.
Caroline nods, and walks away, leaving us in a comfortable silence.
He's the one to break it.
"So, how'd you get out of the house? What'd you tell your parents? I mean, I'm assuming you still live with your parents."
Holy.
Shit.
Why.
Did.
I.
Not.
Think.
About.
This.
Before.
I bang my head off of the table, and groan.
"I told them I was having a sleepover at Rebecca's - which they weren't happy about - and now I have no place to stay."
I try to think of a solution to my problem when I hear him suggest something that I am definitely not ready to hear.
"You can stay with me." He says, and I burst out laughing.
"Stay with a stranger? Over night? At HIS house? You're funny. It was honestly stupid of me to get in the car with you." I say, but then realie how bad that sounded.
"I mean, not that you're a bad person or anything."
"Honestly, I won't do anything. I will simply sleep on the couch and you can sleep in my room or something. I mean would you rather go home and have to face the wrath of your parents?" He assures.
He is right, if I went home my beating would be worse than the beating I got for asking to spend the night at Rebecca's.
"Ok..." I say.
I mean, I would rather get raped and killed by him than to be beaten by my parents.
And for some stranger reason I trust him.
I feel like he will keep me safe.
"You're my hero," I say, before I realize I said it out loud.
"I just saved you from that guy. Anyone would do that."
You've saved me from my parent too.
"Well, thank you anyways."
"You're welcome, baby girl." He says.
My heart flutters at that, and I feel my face heat up.
"So, tell me about yourself." He says curiously.
"Well, I'm 18, turning 19 June 28th. I have a little sister that is 14. I only have 2 friends, Alice and Rebecca, and I'm basically a good girl, as some people say. Your turn." I smile at the end.
"I'm 21, as you already know. My birthday is December 19th. I'm an only child. I have a lot of friends, I guess you could say, but I only trust my 2 best friends, Jaylin and Chase. I'm your typical bad boy, as all people say." He smirks.
"Oh, really? And what 'bad' things do you do? I mean, I did agree to spending the night at your house. If you're in some gang, I'd rather not get involved." I say, and smile.
He can't be in to anything to bad, right?
Guilt flashes across his face but quickly disappears as fast as it came.
"Nah, you'll find out later, if you stick around that is." He smirks.
"I feel like I can trust you. As weird as that is." I state.
"Well, you can." He smirks, but his voice sounds unsure.
Weird...
Caroline suddenly appears beside us, and places our drinks down.
"Anything else?" She says.
"No thank you." I reply, looking up at her.
"Well if you need anything, let me know." She sends us one last smile before she goes back to the counter.
"You're really pretty." Adam says out of the blue.
"Thanks," I say, and blush.
"You're welcome, baby girl." He says, smirking.
Damn him and that cocky smirk.
We drink our drinks in a comfortable silence, just looking at each other.
When we're both finished our drinks, we get up and go to pay for our drinks.
I grab money out of my clutch, but before I can pay, Adam is already handing her money for both of our drinks.
"It's on me. Put your money away. I invited you, baby girl, so I'll pay." He says, as Caroline gives him his change.
"Thank you," I smile.
"If I may," Caroline cuts in, "You guys are a cute couple." She says with a huge smile and a knowing glint in her eyes.
"Oh, we aren't a couple," I say.
"Yet," Adam adds, earning a playful glare from me.
"Well, I hope you guys are happily together one day." Caroline adds, before walking in to the back room.
We turn and walk out of the cafe, and he opens the car door for me.
"Thank you," I say, as I slide in to the car.
"No problem, babe."
He shuts the door, and jogs around to the other side, getting in himself.
We drive in silence until we arrive in front of a huge house.
It's really pretty and I feel my mouth drop.
"Don't drool, I mean, it is just a house. if you wanna drool at something, I'll take my shirt off for you." Adam says, and I look over at him to see him smirking.
"Adam!" I say, and my cheeks turn a crimson color.
I smack his arm, and he just laughs.
"Lets go inside," He says as he turns the car off.
I get out of the car, and we go inside.
The inside is even more gorgeous, and I stop in the doorway, causing Adam to run in to my back.
I trip and fall forward, but he reaches out and wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me in to him.
"Thank you." I say, and step out of his arms.
"Uh, no problem. Follow me."
He shuts the door, and starts to lead me to stairs. I follow him, and we walk upstairs and in to a cool room.
He goes over to a dresser and opens a drawer, pulling out a big white t-shirt.
So this is Adam's room, I'm assuming.
He throws it to me and I catch it mid-air.
"You can wear that, since you don't have any other, ah, clothes." He says, with a light shade of pink coating his cheeks.
"Thanks," I mumble.
"I'll be downstairs on the couch if you need me, you can slep up here." He says, and walks towards the door, where I'm still standing.
"Goodnight, baby girl." He says, as he brushes by me.
"Goodnight, Adam," I whisper.
Then he's gone.
He shuts the door to his room, and I quickly change out of my dress, folding it neatly and putting it on the bedside table, placing my clutch and phone on top.
I walk over to a door, and pull it open, finding out that it's a bathroom.
"Yes!" I cheer at my small victory.
I walk in to the bathroom, and cringe when I look at myself.
I have dark circles under my eyes from crying, my lipstick is smudged, and my curly hair is tangled and messed up.
I sigh, and wash the makeup off of my face.
I quickly do my business, then leave the bathroom.
Crawling in to his bed, I sigh at how comfortable it is.
I pull the blankets up to my chin and close my eyes.

This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...) I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it! [Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat. Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time. There's a reason people made the word improbable. Just because something would never happen based on common sense or reason, doesn't mean it can't happen. For example, a soul maintaining their memories through the River of the afterlife, a stream of ethereal energies that remove and store memories from the recently departed only to return when they die again. Another example, a soul by it's sheer will maintaining awareness during the process of a new body's development; nearly infintesimile chances of happening, but there is still a chance. Hi, you can call me Esseu (S U) and I managed to do both of those nearly impossible things back to back. My reward for such a feat? I was turned into a glorified bee keeper.
