《Forever | ✓》16. Double Date

"Hey, you ready to go?" Will asked, standing by the doorway.

Tonight, we were going for a double date with Sara and Danny, since she'd said we hadn't done this in forever. Clearly she'd forgotten that we had dinner together last week.

That girl will forever be dramatic. But I still love her.

"Just a second," I said, as I sat by my dresser, putting on my earrings.

After I gave myself a last glance in the mirror, I smiled and then turned back, to see Will looking at me weirdly.

"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked him, feeling a little conscious.

His eyes roamed over my body, from head to toe, and then stopping at my face, he smirked at me wickedly.

"Internally debating whether you look better in that dress or out of it," he said so casually.

I shook my head whilst smiling. "You're an idiot."

"And you love me for it," he winked. A frown then developed on his face, "It's ridiculous, why do you look like that-," he gestured to my outfit, "-when I look like this?" he gestured to himself.

I wore a simple white dress, and he was in a formal shirt and trousers. We both looked smart, but of course he would make it out to seem that I was looking a lot better.

I wanted to laugh, but held it in.

Instead, I dramatically sighed. "A question I ask myself everyday."

Will then narrowed his eyes at me.

"Funny," he replied, sarcastically.

"Okay, let go," I smiled, grabbing my purse.

Will held my hand as he led me out the room, only to turn back abruptly, nearly causing my to crash into him.

"What?" I asked.

"I forgot something," Will frowned.

My face scrunched up a little as I thought about what he could have possibly forgotten since I knew he would always be ready before me.

Only a second later, a pair of lips met mine.

"Got it," Will smiled leaning back after me pecked my lips.

"Muppet," I muttered and shook my head gently, but not without a smile on my face, as he grabbed my hand and continued to lead me out of our room.

"You know, Chris said he'll be back in city soon," Sara told me as we ate dinner.

I looked at her in surprise. "Really?" I asked.

"Yeah, with Miguel," she then added.

I smiled at her words. "Those two are so cute together," I said and Sara grinned at me in agreement.

"This is the guy you went to college with, who has the photographer boyfriend?" Will asked.

"That's the one," I nodded.

Since Chris went to the same college as Sara and I, the three of us became much closer friends. We didn't really interact much at high school, belonging to different groups at first. He was a lot more quiet back then and honestly, I wasn't even sure he liked me much.

However, after high school, the three of us just seemed to click.

Chris moved out to New York too, like Sara and I. He found himself a photographer boyfriend, one that travels the world. The two of them settled in California for the last couple of years, when Chris got job at a tech firm. I guess now he was coming back.

"Do you remember when Danny found you both in bed together and nearly beat the shit out of him?" I asked Sara, who laughed at my words.

"You were going to beat him up?" Will asked Danny confused. "Didn't you know he's gay?"

Danny didn't look as amused as Sara and I.

"I forgot momentarily," he said.

Sara shook her head and patted his shoulder. "It was the green-eyed monster, baby," she told him.

Danny gave her an annoyed look.

"Don't be embarrassed, we all have one in us," she added.

I snorted. "Yeah, you definitely do. Remember when you threatened that girl who was just speaking to Danny?"

Sara then glared at me, as Danny now smirked. "Okay she wasn't speaking, she was flirting."

I gave her doubtful look. "Was she really?"

The real answer was no.

Sara the shrugged. "I just didn't like the look in her eyes, it was all 'come hither and rock my world'," she said in an exaggerated, seductive voice, which caused us all to laugh.

She even tried to replicate the look, but more dramatically.

"Why don't you ever look at me like that?" Will asked me.

"Because I only look at food like that," I smiled.

"Have you guys kept in touch with your high school friends?" Will asked and we all nodded.

"A few," Danny replied.

"We drop a message to each other, every now and then," Sara added.

It's always hard keeping in contact with people, but so easy to lose it.

Sure if you're dedicated, it's not so hard, but sometimes life gets in the way, which just creates a little bit of an obstacle. But we still tried.

Flo and Max, tried to make it as a long-distance couple, but broke up a year after her going off to college, when it all started getting a bit much. However, I found out they got back together later on. She has her own successful blog and a column in a magazine. Max didn't go college, but got an online degree instead and continues to help his Dad's business, which he made quite successful.

Mel is now a teacher at a university in London, after gaining three degrees, one of which is a PhD. Her and Andre broke up, but have a reunion every year according to their posts. He still is a DJ, but now also works as a sound engineer for a theatre group.

I had also caught up with Holden, who was now a proud father of two, after finding his true love in Chicago. He's happily married, and works in construction. His twin sons are the most adorable little things. His halloween posts are always the best.

"What about you?" Sara asked Will.

"In high-school, only a few because I was a bit of a nerd. I had a best friend, but she moved away," he then said, looking a little sad.

I placed my hand over his, knowing what caused that look. Will smiled at me, letting me know he was okay.

"I was bit of a nerd back in high school, and a loner. I made my close friends later in college," Will carried on.

Sara shook her head, squinting a little. "I can't picture you as a nerd," she said.

Will scoffed. "Well obviously not now, I mean look at me," he said, gesturing towards his body, causing us to laugh.

"My older brother is more of a fitness freak. He kind encouraged me into working out," he then added.

"Lucky you, Serena," Sara said, wiggling her brows.

I glared at her. "Shut up, Sara."

Will chuckled. "She's not wrong."

Danny cleared his throat. "Dude, she's like my sister," he told Will.

"Oh, now I remember what I wanted to ask you," Sara said, and I looked at her confused.

"How was the birthday party? I completely spaced on asking you," she questioned.

It had actually been some weeks since the party and since I'd last seen Liam and Bea.

However, I knew that we were okay, since he sent me a picture of Bea wearing the tights I bought her. We weren't in a hostile space, that's a positive.

"It was good," I said, carrying on to eat.

Sara looked as if she was waiting on me to say more and then looked disappointed when I didn't continue.

"Just good? You helped plan it, S. Tell us more," she whined.

"You helped plan it?" Danny asked, with a look of disapproval.

"Maybe. A little," I said, trying to act innocent. I knew Danny and I knew exactly how he'd feel about this, it was probably a conversation that was going to come later on.

He just shook his head. I was definitely going to hear about this later.

"So, tell us," Sara prompted once again.

"It was fun. I planned an enchanted forest kind of theme. Elias make the cake. Everyone was dressed in some kind of fairytale costume. She loved it," I told her.

Sara pouted. "That's so cute. I wish I was there."

"I think it's better you weren't," I said, knowing exactly she'd lose her mind at the party and completely adopt some kind of princess alter ego.

I received a glare from Sara, with Danny taking a sip of his drink to hide his smile.

"Bitch," she threw her paper straw at me, before smiling. Her mood transitions so quickly. "It's so weird to think of Liam as a Dad. It's just so sad what happened to Julie."

This time I looked away from from Danny, and felt Will reach for my hand, giving it a small squeeze.

"I'm sure she's smiling down on her little girl," Will said, speaking for me, knowing I wouldn't be able to.

I squeezed his hand back, as a silent thank you.

We'd just began eating our desserts when Danny spoke up.

"Do you want to show her what we're really here for?" He asked Sara.

Will and I looked at each other confused, and then back at Sara, who had a big smile on her face.

She reached into her purse and took out a picture, handing it over to me. "Here. Take a look," she said.

I turned it over and immediately my eyes widened and I couldn't even hold back the mini-scream that left me, not caring about who was around us.

"Oh, my God, Sara, is this..." my voice trailed off.

She nodded, biting her lip. "I'm pregnant," she confirmed.

"Shit. Congratulations guys," Will then said, looking at the pair, and they both thanked him.

Meanwhile, I was currently in a bit of a stunned silence mode.

"Serena, you're too silent. Say something. Or at least comment on the picture quality," Sara said and looked at my face with a little worried look, as did Danny and Will.

"I'm so happy for you guys, I can't-," my voice choked up and I couldn't even continue.

My best friends were going to have a baby. This was so amazing.

Sara laughed. "I'm pregnant and you're the one crying with mood swings, of course," she said, as if it were so normal.

"I'm going to be an Aunt!" I squealed.

"Congratulations," Danny commented dryly.

I threw my napkin at him. "I can't wait for you to deal with her swings," I told him.

Sara gave him an evil smile and Danny looked at Will a little helplessly.

"Is that spare room still available man?"

He asked and Will looked back at me.

I'm going to be an aunt!

After we finished dinner, we left the restaurant and began making our way back to our homes. Sara and Danny had to go a different way from Will and I. They took an cab, whilst Will and I decided to walk, since it wasn't all too far from our apartment.

"I can't believe Sara's pregnant. I can't wait to spoil the kid rotten," I said to Will, who chuckled in response, wrapping his arm around me.

"You buy her dresses and I'll keep her fed with food," he said.

I snorted. "What will her actual parents do?"

Will paused before answering. "Change diapers," he then said and I laughed.

"I've never asked, but do you want kids?" He then asked.

I looked up at him. "What?"

He looked at me with a smile. "Do you want kids? I mean you're so good with Liam's little girl and you're so excited for Sara and Danny's baby..."

"Someday, yeah," I told him. "But I'm not thinking about actually having one right now. Are you?" I asked a little frantically, wondering if that's where this conversation headed.

"Not really, no," he said and internally took a sigh of relief. "I know I'm in my thirties, and should think about it, but I kind of want to be married before bringing a kid into this world," he said .

I leaned into his shoulder. "You're cute."

He squeezed my shoulder. "I know," he replied, smugly.

"I guess we'll have to be careful then," I told him.

"But if it does happen, you know by accident, I'll still love the kid," he said and I smiled at him.

"That's something I don't doubt at all," I told him honestly.

When we got back to the apartment, I was so ready for bed and took my heels off straight away, putting them to the side.

"Okay, I'm going to get ready for bed," I announced.

I expected Will to make some kind of flirty comment at that but instead that he seemed to be staring off into the oblivion whilst sat on the sofa. I don't think he even heard me.

"Will? Are you alright?" I asked.

This seemed to have startled him from his trance. "Yeah, just thinking," he said.

I took a seat next to him. "About?"

He turned to face me. "Why did you never tell Sara that you used to like Liam?" He asked, and I was surprised by his random question.

This wasn't exactly what I thought we'd talk about.

He must have seen my expression and thought the worst.

"Sorry, I was just curious. You don't have to talk about it, it's okay. I'm sorry. Please don't get mad," he rambled and I chuckled at the panic in his voice.

"Whoa, relax. I'm not mad, never at you," I reassured him and Will dramatically wiped his forehead.

I sighed. "Well, I've never actually wanted to tell anyone, or have anyone know about the Liam-thing," I confessed.

Will tilted his head slightly, "What about Danny?" He asked.

"I just thought I'd get through it on my own, just keep my feelings to myself. Danny finding out was an accident. I just happened to bump into him when I was just overwhelmed by everything and I just confessed everything," I told Will.

"Oh," he replied and I nodded.

"Didn't Sara ever catch you out?" Will questioned.

I shook my head. "Not really. Not that there was anything to catch. It wasn't like I didn't trust her or anything, but a part of me was just ashamed," I said, bowing my head down as little, looking at my feet instead.

"Ashamed? Of what?" Will asked.

"I felt like I was lusting after my friend's boyfriend. It just felt wrong," I admitted. "I didn't think she'd judge me, but I was judging myself enough that I just wanted to keep it to myself. I told you because I felt it was needed, like you should know."

I kept my head down, but felt Will's hand cup my cheek, as he moved my face to look at him.

"I'm glad you told me," he smiled.

I smiled too. "I'm glad too. We know about each other's past, it's a good thing," I said.

Will knew as much about me, as I did him. His past wasn't a secret from me either, and I was appreciative that he told me everything as well.

We didn't make this jump blindly, we had clear vision and jumped together and that was reassuring.

"I do feel bad about never telling Sara," I sighed. "She's going to hate me if she ever finds out."

She'd probably kill me, especially with the pregnancy hormones she's going to have.

As my best friend and I knew I should tell her, but more time passes, this just became my ugly secret and it made me feel like such a bad person. I was terrified that she may see me like that too and I'd lose her.

"Maybe I'm just prone to making bad decisions," I said and Will reached over, and cupped my face.

"No one could ever hate you, Serena." He told me sternly. "Sara may get upset when she finds out, but when you tell her why, she'll understand. As for you making bad decisions, that's true. And your worst decision was agreeing to marry me," he smiled.

I couldn't help but laugh. "I hate you," I said, leaning into him, placing my head on his chest, as he ran a hand through my hair.

"There's that smile," he said and I laughed more.

"Thank you," I mumbled and felt him kissed the top of my head, as he hugged me closer to him.

"More than anything, Serena, I'm always your friend first," Will said and just when I thought that was it, he continued, "...and then your lover."

I shook my head. "And speaking of loving, maybe I should do what I've wanted to since the start of the evening," he added, and I leaned back to look at him.

"What?" I asked.

"Settle my internal debate," he said and I carried on looking at him, completely baffled.

That devilish smirk took its place on his lips again. "I've seen you in the dress, now let me see you out of it," he said.

Before I even had a chance to reply, I was being carried off to the bedroom.

All I wanted to do was sleep. I guess not.
