《The Attachment - A Colby Brock Fan Fiction》~*~*~Chapter One~*~*~

It had been almost 6 months since Jennifer was killed, the man who killed her ended up confessing and going to prison, but when I received her ring back, I had it on a chain around my neck every day after that. On May 23rd, three days after what would have been her 25th birthday, I was going with Sam to the first investigation we'd done since her passing. Her ring was around my neck tucked in my shirt. I wanted to feel her close to me. I still hadn't let go or accepted her death. A part of me still felt like she was somehow looking after me.
But today we were going to one of the many places she asked if we could investigate. It was a Halloween haunted house that she believed was truly haunted. Jennifer was an empath and seemed to have a sixth sense and connection to the paranormal world. We took her with us a few times on investigations, and things seemed to be extremely intense when she was with us.
One time she was with us she had full-on bruises on her arm like someone had grabbed her arm. She didn't feel anything but when we used a light it was a very clear mark. We were all in shock, and after that, I insisted she not come with us anymore. I couldn't imagine anything happening to her because of me. So in trying to protect her I ended up putting her in more danger, by proposing to her in public.
The man who stole her ring and ended her life admitted to seeing the proposal and just wanted the ring to pay a debt. His intention, he claims was never to hurt or kill her, it was just an accidental gun discharge. I didn't believe it. You don't hold someone at gunpoint if you don't plan on hurting someone.

But I digress, we were heading to this haunted house, The Dead Factory, which at one time was a clothing factory. The top four levels of this building burned in a fire in the early 1900s. Almost 40 people were killed in that fire. So today we were going go to see if there was anyone at unrest we could try to help or contact.
"Colby! Dude, earth to Colby!" Sam said from the passenger seat. I snapped out of my memories and turned to him. His eyes were full of worry, his blue eyes dark with concern.
"Right... right, sorry dude, distracted!" I said as I refocused my eyes on the road.
"Are you sure you're ready for this?" he asked, his eyebrows furrowing together as he rested his hand on my shoulder.
"Yes... I am fine, just missing her..." I said simply, hearing and feeling her ring clinking against my other chain.
"I know man, I don't think that will ever go away," he said patting my shoulder, "The moment you need to quit, you can...."
"I got this man, I promise," I said, nodding confidently. I was doing this for Jennifer. This was the number one spot she wanted to investigate, so I had to do this for her. I was determined to get thru this.
"Alright guys, welcome to our first investigatio since..." Sam began but didn't seem to want to finish or say her name.
"Jennifer," I finished for him, "And this investigation is in honor of her. She wanted to investigate this place more than anywhere else. So today we honor her memory in investigating this Halloween Haunted house building with a dark past."
"So today, we're going to stay overnight in this old Clothing factory that is now a haunted house during the fall, a very successful one at that, to see if it truly has a dark past with real spirits..." Sam said as we spoke to our camera for our introduction. Once we headed inside with the owner of the building he began telling us the story of the building, the fire, and how it happened.

"The factory owner's wife found out he had been sleeping with his female workers, and she decided this business was only for him to have options of women to cheat with. So she risked her life and livelihood and lit his office on fire, starting with papers: it spread from his office to the fabric room, which of course was like the best kindling and that began the fire in full force. The only witness to the fire was the only one to survive the fire that night. It was his current mistress and secretary, who ended up telling the story of the fire and his cheating," he said.
"Wow, that's intense...." I said. In only seconds the EMF machine in my hand began going crazy and spiking to red before I felt a sharp heat radiate thru my hand causing me to drop it. Sam gasped in shock and rushed over to me.
"Oh my god!" he said, "Dude, what the fuck just happened?" I glanced down at my hand and it was a bit red.
"It burned...." I said softly, feeling the pain in my hand
"Like a fire! It burned!" he said in shock, checking over my hand. I was in shock, my hand still shaking a bit.
"They're ready, they're here and ready to talk..." I said simply. I picked up the machine again. It was cool to the touch. We got our rem pod and cat ball set up, the music box in a far corner, hoping to cover more space.
"Alright, guys we're here to talk to you.... If there is someone here that wants to talk, can you touch one of our machines?" Sam asked. It was quiet, for a moment till the rem pod went off beside me.
"Thank you! Are you stuck here? Do you need our help?" I asked out loud. The pod stopped.
"Don't be afraid, we want to help you...." Sam said, "If you're still here will you please set off another machine." It was silent for a moment till I felt a cold breeze move around my face.
"Whoa... did you feel that?" I asked Sam. He turned to me a bit confused.
"Feel what?" he asked., moving close to me, trying to see if he could feel it.
"The cold... that breeze," I said softly, "it's freezing...."
"No... I didn't feel anything.... Should I?" he asked, trying to feel the air around me.
"It's like 5 degrees in here.." I said, feeling a shiver go thru me.
"I don't feel anything.. dude you're freaking me out," he said before he was cut off by the rem pod again, it was going nuts.
"Who Are you?" I asked, and within seconds it stopped, and the cold feeling went away, almost as fast as it began.
"Something left us," Sam said softly. We were only ten minutes into this investigation and things were high and above anything, we'd ever expected.
"Estes Reading is going to be nuts tonight," I said softly, running a hand thru my hair. I was anxious to see how that was going to go.

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
