Jack

"Thank you grandma." I whispered as she handed me the number to my parent's vacation house.

"You're welcome dear." She said with a small smile. "I would tell you myself, but I think you should hear it from them."

I nodded as she walked away and I looked at Critter.

He whimpered and rubbed his head against my cheek.

"I can do this." I told myself as I picked up my cell phone.

Ring...Ring...Ring...Ri-

"Mr. Banks speaking." I heard my father's stern voice.

"Dad." I said monotone.

There was a small pause.

"Jack." My dad's voice didn't change. "Haven't heard from you in a while."

"Likewise." I said. "Where's mom?"

"Hold on." He mumbled as I heard some shuffling.

"Jack." My mother's same monotone voice.

"I need to talk to you." I said matching her voice.

I hate talking to my parents like this. But I know it's the only way they will listen. You have to talk seriously and like you mean business or else they will just blow you off.

"Then talk." She said sounding bored.

"No." I said as I gripped the phone tighter. "In person."

Critter sensed my uneasiness and purred as he rubbed against my cheek again.

My mom sighed. "Jack-"

"Mom don't." I said sternly. "You and dad need to fly out here and talk to me face-to-face. And I will not take no for an answer."

"Fine." My mom grunted. "Your father and I will fly out this afternoon to your house."

"Another thing." I paused slightly. "I'm not at my house."

I told her the address of the pack house and we both hung up.

"You're doing the right thing." Micah said as she rubbed my back.

"I just want to know why she never told me." I admitted as I sat down in the chair and brought Critter to my lap.

Betsy climbed up on my lab and did her best smile.

I chuckled slightly and patted her head.

"It's going to be okay." Micah said as he picked up Betsy and cradled her in her arms. "You are finally going to get answers."

I nodded. "You're right. Come on. Let's go downstairs and wait till they get here."

I pulled my phone out and texted Hank to bring my parents inside when they get here.

They probably took their private jet so they will be here soon. That thing is so fast.

I sat down in the chair and waited nervously until they got here.

"Wolves." My mom sneered as she stepped into the pack house.

"Don't be rude to my pack members." I said as I narrowed my eyes at her.

"Your pack members?" My mom asked shocked.

I nodded. "That's right."

"You're mated with one aren't you?" My mom asked.

I nodded again and crossed my arms. "An alpha to be exact."

River waved awkwardly as my mom just stared at him.

"May I take your coat miss?" Hank asked.

My dad looked up at him and gulped.

Hell, I don't blame him. I was scared when I first saw him too.

"No." My mom said waving him off. "I won't be here long. I have a meeting at noon."

I rolled my eyes. "Typical."

"Excuse me?" My mom asked as she raised her voice slightly.

That's it. I couldn't hold it in anymore.

"I said typical!" I yelled. "You want to know why? It's because you two never were fucking around! It was like I didn't even have parents. You and dad were so into your jobs that you never once even noticed me. You handed me off to nanny after nanny. It was like you didn't even care about me!"

"You need to watch your voice around your mother." My dad said sternly.

Hank growled at the disrespect my dad used towards me.

My dad flinched slightly and took a step back.

"It's okay Hank." I said as I looked at him.

"You needed to be strong." My mom defended.

I gave a humorless laughed and scoffed. "Strong? No. I need to be loved. And you didn't give that to me. I didn't have the parent's love that all the other kids had. I had parents that didn't give a damn about me. I have a boy's name for fucks sake."

"I like it if that makes you feel better." River suggested.

I glared at River and he nodded.

"Not the time. Right. Sorry." River said as he took a step back. "You may continue."

"We didn't have any other names picked out." My dad said.

"Bullshit." I spat. "It's not that hard to pick a girl's name off the top of your head. But whatever. That's not the reason why I called you."

"Then what is?" My mom asked impatiently.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked.

"Tell you what?" My mom asked suspiciously.

"About being an ancient healer."

My parent's eyes went wide and they looked shocked.

Bingo.

"H-how did you find out?" My mom asked speechless.

"Grandma told me." I said as I crossed my arms. "Why did you hide it from me?"

"I can't believe she told you." My mom mumbled. "I didn't want you to know because I wanted you to live a normal life. I didn't want you to be in danger about getting kidnapped by rogues because they know what you are. The less you knew the better."

"You? Thinking about my safety? That's a first." I laughed as my mom narrowed her eyes at me.

"When I was younger, rogues found out about it. Your grandma tried to teach me what she knew, but I didn't want to. When I went off to college, I put all that behind me. I didn't care. I acted like it wasn't a part of me. So when you were born and you had the ancient healer trait, I cut you off from seeing your grandma." My mom explained. "When your grandma found out that you were an ancient healer, she wanted to teach you what she knew so you would be prepared if the rogues ever found out. I said no. I told her that if she was going to teach you the ways, then she wasn't allowed to see you."

I was shocked.

I turned to look at my grandmother and she nodded her head.

"It was true dear. She wouldn't let me see you. But I was always watching from a distance." She smiled.

"I know." My mom said with narrowed eyes. "I could sense the wolves that you had watching over us."

My grandma smirked. "I told you that I would always be watching."

"Yes. But I didn't think you would have wolves stationed outside our house 24/7!" My mom yelled.

My grandma shrugged. "Oh well. Jack liked them."

"What?" I asked confused.

My grandma smiled. "You were playing outside one day when the nanny was making you lunch. The pack that I had helped was a little ways from your old house when you guys lived in Nebraska. They gotten into a war with some rogues and I offered them help on one condition."

"Which was what?" I asked.

"To keep you safe." My mom finished. "I know all about it. I talked with the alpha and he wouldn't back down. He insisted that he owned grandma this because she saved his life."

My grandma nodded. "He got badly injured trying to protect his mate. He was ambushed during the war. I saved him and he told me that he needed to find a way to repay him. I told him of you and what you were. He immediately agreed because ancient healers became scarce. And his pack members loved you. The guards loved to play house with you."

My mom scoffed while my grandma smiled and laughed.

"They would take turns watching over you. I remembered when they told me what happened the first time you saw one. You weren't suppose to see them, but one of the guards stepped on a stick and you heard it. You went back in the woods trying to find what made that noise. They wanted to laugh as you brought your wooden sword to protect yourself, but they didn't want to blow their cover." My grandma chuckled at the memory. "But you came face-to-face with one. He was worried what you would do, but that's when you yelled puppy and hugged his face. The other guards walked out and you were so happy to see more "puppies".

I laughed as my grandma made air quotes when she said puppies.

"When I found out that you were interacting with them, I talked to the alpha to tell him to leave you alone." My mom spoke up. "But he wouldn't. That's when we moved. I wanted you to get away from werewolves. I was trying to protect you. You weren't suppose to know about werewolves and your powers."

I smirked. "Well look at me now. Mated to an alpha werewolf and having grandma teach me about my powers."

My mom narrowed her eyes at me. "I was trying to prevent this."

"Well you did an excellent job." I said sarcastically as I gave her a clap.

My mom scoffed and grabbed my dad's arm. "I have a meeting to get too."

"Don't let the door hit you on the way out." I called to her as she opened the front door.

She ignored me and walked to my dad's car.

"Well that went well." My grandma smiled as she clapped her hands together.

"Lovely parents." Hank said as he narrowed his eyes as them as they drove away.

"Tell me about it." I mumbled as I rubbed my temples. "Well now I know the reason why they kept this from me."

"It's okay baby." River said softly as he hugged me. "It's okay."

"I hate how she is so disrespectful though. It bugs me." I said softly as I buried my face in his chest.

"I know." River whispered as he rubbed my back.

"I'm sorry to interrupt alpha." A pack member said as he walked up to us. "But we are ready."

"Okay." River said as I looked up at him.

"Let's get ready." I said as I broke away from him.

"Wait what?" River asked.

"Don't even." I laughed as he went to protest. "I'm fighting alongside my pack."

River sighed. "Fine."

I smirked and walked to the weapon room in the basement.

I smiled as I took in the sight of all the weapons and walked over to the wall with the guns that had the silver bullets.

"We are attacking now." I said as I grabbed my gun and cocking it. "I don't care what you have to say. I'm going now. So who's coming with?"

The wolves nodded.

"Then let's do this babe." River smirked.

"Good." I said matching his smirk. "Tonight is the night that these wolves will pay thinking they can take my grandma."
