Jack
"I'm guessing work wasn't good." Hank said as I slammed the door shut.
"No it wasn't." I mumbled as I sat myself down in one of the kitchen island chairs.
"May I ask what happened Ms. Banks?" Hank asked as he handed me a cup of my favorite coffee.
Should I drink it?
It could be poisoned.
Screw it. I really don't care at the moment.
I placed my cup back down after I took a sip.
"A naked bald guy broke into the clinic today and took an injured wolf." I said as I glared at the table.
Hank froze slightly as he looked at me carefully.
"Did he really?" He asked.
I looked up at him and studied him.
I learned that ever time Hank lies, he licks his lips really fast and his fingers twitch.
Something that I'm glad he does because it helps me out.
I nodded, pretending that I didn't see anything.
"I mean seriously!" I yelled. "Who the hell takes an injured wolf out of a clinic? He went through a 3 hour surgery! He was dying when Troy and Zack brought him in. I hate people."
"Well I'm glad he made it." Hank said through gritted teeth.
He shook his head and went back to putting the dishes away.
Weird...
"I'm going to my room." I sighed as I brought my coffee mug with.
"Okay. Good night Ms. Banks!" Hank called since I was already in the hallway.
"Goodnight!" I called back.
I threw my keys and phone on my bed and stripped my clothes.
After I got my pj pants on, my phone started to ring.
"Hello?" I asked as I was looking through my closet for a shirt.
"What's up?" River asked.

I immediately smiled.
Oh nothing really. Just standing in my room half naked talking to you.
"Nothing really. Bought to go to bed. You?" I asked as I finally picked out a shirt.
"Same." River laughed. "Well I wanted to call you and ask what you are doing tomorrow."
"Um." I hummed trying to think. "Nothing after 5. I have work tomorrow morning and then I have to help Micah paint her bathroom. She's tired of the blue color."
River laughed. "Sweet. Do you want to do something after?"
"That sound perfect." I smiled. "Where did you want to go?"
"That is a surprise." River said.
I could literally hear the smirk in his voice.
"Of course." I laughed as I put the shirt on. "What do I wear?"
"Casual clothes. We'll be outside. Oh, and bring a swimsuit."
"Eye eye captain." I giggled.
"Oh. I got some treats for Critter. Maybe he'll like me then."
I laughed. "He's at my grandma's house right now. I had to work really late so she offered to keep him overnight."
"Aw man." River mumbled.
"Goodnight." I laughed at his depressed voice.
"Goodnight beautiful." River said before he hung up.
Did he just call me beautiful?
I blushed as I laid my phone down on my bed.
After finishing my coffee, I walked back out to the kitchen to put it in a sink.
I jumped as the back door began to raddle, causing me to drop my mug in the sink.
"Dammit." I mumbled as I picked it up. "It better not be broken. It's an Alice In Wonderland cup."
I sighed in relief when it wasn't damaged.
I made sure to be quiet and I opened the door a little.
"Leo." I smiled as I opened it wider and sat down on my back porch.
Leo jumped up and began to lick my cheek.
I giggled at the tingling feeling and pushed him off.
"How are you boy?" I asked as I rubbed his head.

Leo purred and curled up next to me.
"So River and I are dating." I said suddenly.
It's weird. I feel like I can trust him.
Leo's head snapped up to look at me and I continued talking.
"He's really sweet." I mumbled playing with my fingers. "But I don't know. Derek was just as sweet as River was when we first started dating."
Leo growled softly.
I gave him a sad smile. "It sucks that a girl could go from trusting anyone to not wanting to trust anybody. That one boy can make such a big change in a girl's life and fuck up everything nice thought she had about guys. That one guy can ruin a girl. It sucks."
Leo snuggled closer to me and rested his head on my lap.
I softly rubbed his head and continued. "I know to most people it could seem stupid. Like that I just need to shut up and get over it. But it's hard, ya know? I use to be able to look at any guy and see something that is worth trusting. But now, all I see is how much they could use me, how much they could hurt me. After Derek and I broke up, I wouldn't even look in a guys direction. My friend Micah would try to get me to date again, but I wouldn't. I was always scared that I would get too attached and fall hard. That's what happened to me when I first met Derek."
I sighed as tears began to gather in my eyes.
"And it sucks because Micah and Emily are all that I have. My one friend left with my boyfriend. I always wanted my parents here. To play good cop and bad cop. But it never got to happen. My parents could care less about me. I've always wanted my dad to be the bad cop, scare my boyfriend and make sure he treats me right. Then I wanted my mom to be the good cop, where she would make my boyfriend feel welcomed and better when he got done talking to my dad. Like I had Emily and she met Derek and everything. But it still wasn't the same."
Leo whimpered as I hugged him.
"But River came along. When I spilled my coffee all over his shirt." I chuckled at the memory. "Something about him just makes me feel safe. Feel loved. He stood up to Derek and protected me. I've never had anyone stick up for me before. Well besides Micah and Emily. But this time was different. I had a guy stick up for me. It was weird."
I was so confused. Never in my life did I have a guy stick up for me.
"I feel like this is all a game to River." I said just as Leo looked up at me. "I feel like once I get too attached, River is gonna laugh and say this was all pretend. Like he is gonna drop me and go onto someone else. Do you think so?"
Leo shook his head quickly. He even looked kind of sad.
I shrugged. "I don't know. I really like River. And I didn't want to yes to him just in case something like this would actually happen. I wanted to push him away so far, but he didn't take no as an answer. And he bought me a book series. How could I turn that down?"
Leo gave me a little laugh/snort kinda thing.
I chuckled. "Thanks for listening. I know you can't talk, but in case you can magically talk one day, please don't tell anyone I said this. Promise?"
Leo nodded his head and gave my cheek a lick.
"Thanks. Because I don't want anyone finding out about this. Especially River." I mumbled.
I looked up and Leo was looking at the ground.
He looked really guilty.
Oh well.
"I'm going to go to bed." I said as I kissed the top of Leo's head. "Goodnight Leo."
Now I just need to figure out how to keep River away from Hank.
