Jack
I groaned as my phone started to ring.
"Hello?" I asked as I gave River an apologetic smile.
He smiled and nodded.
"Jack." Emily's worried voice said.
"Emily?" I asked worried. "What's wrong."
"Micah just called me. Another wolf came in the vet today and he's beat up pretty bad. Things aren't looking too good. I can't come in because I just got called on an emergency house call. I know it's your coming in later tonight, but could you please come in early?"
"Of course." I said as I grabbed my purse. "I'm on my way."
"Thank you so much Jack." Emily sighed in relief as she ended the call.
"What's wrong?" River asked as he sat back down.
"Did you pay the bill?" I asked.
He smirked and nodded. "Yep. You were talking so I slipped away to pay it."
I mumbled at him under my breath.
"Whatever." I laughed. "But I have to go to the clinic. A wolf showed up and he's not close to making it. Emily went out on an emergency house call and she needs me to come in early."
"Okay." River smiled. "I'll drop you off."
"Are you sure?" I asked.
He nodded. "Yes Jack. I'm sure. Come on."
The ride there didn't take that long. Mainly because River sped the entire way.
"Good luck with uh wolf." River said uneasily.
"Thanks." I said confused.
Why did he say it like that?
"Do you need me to come get you?" River asked.
I shook my head. "Nah. I'll have Micah drop me. Thank you!"
"You're welcome!" He called out after me.
I ran through the doors.
"Jack!" Zack yelled.
"What's going on?" I asked as I ran to the surgery room.
"The wolf." Zack said breathless. "He's really bad. It looks like he's gotten into a fight or something. He flatlined once, but Micah got him back."

I sighed. "Prep him for surgery. He's gonna need it if he flatlined. I'll look him over then."
Zack nodded and left the surgery room.
I washed my hands and I saw the doors pop open.
Zack and Troy ran in pushing the wolf in with Micah and a couple other workers behind them.
"Arms out." Micah said quickly as she pulled my cover on.
After tying it, she ran around me and got the gloves.
"We need to work quickly." Micah said. "I already brought him back once. We can't do risk that again."
I nodded. "Get him under."
Micah nodded and got the mask and happy juice ready.
"It's okay little guy." I said as I walked up to the wolf. "You're gonna be okay."
The wolf opened his eyes and I jumped back a little bit as I stared in its red eyes.
"Does it have bleeding in his eyes?" I asked as Micah put the mask over the wolf.
I checked the eyes and didn't see any signs of bleeding.
Micah shook her head. "Not that I could find."
I nodded and saw him watching me carefully.
"You're going to be okay." I promised. "I haven't lost a patient and I'm not about to start."
The wolf's eyes finally closed and I heard his soft snore.
"Let's get to work." I said as I grabbed the razor to get to his cuts.

I sighed in relief as Troy and Zack rolled him out.
"You did well." Micah smiled. "But it's still weird being here without Critter."
I nodded. "I know. I still don't trust Hank being alone with him so I called my grandma to take care of him. Critter loves her."
Micah smiled and nodded. "I'm glad. Because I don't want this Hank guy doing anything to him."
"Neither do I." I said just as Troy walked in the room.
"The wolf is awake." Troy said confused.
"What?" I asked as I pulled my gloves off. "He shouldn't be awake. He still should be under for another 30 minutes."
Troy shrugged. "I don't know. He woke up a couple minutes after Zack and I put him in the cage."
"I'll go check on him." I mumbled.
"Troy and I will clean the room for you." Micah said.
"Are you sure?" I asked. "I can always come back."
Micah waved me off. "You go. We got this."
"Oh joy." Troy mumbled.
I rolled my eyes and laughed as I made my way to the recovery room.
"He's in a lot of pain." Zack said as he checked the wolf's IV.

"Get some more pain medication and put it through the IV. But amp it up a little bit, but not too much. I don't want him to overdose."
Zack nodded and ran out the door.
"Poor thing." I mumbled as his red eyes peered up at me. "You'll all better now."
'Ya. After the 3 hour surgery.' I thought to myself.
I looked over his cuts and watched in shock as the one of the smaller ones started to disappear.
"What the hell." I mumbled as I looked down at it.
I gasped as it completely vanished.
I looked up at the wolf too watched the cut disappear.
He looked at me in shock.
How the hell can an animal look at me in shock?
I ran my finger over the spot that the cut was on and felt nothing.
No torn skin, no bumps, no indentations, nothing.
"That is strange." I mumbled to myself.
"Here is the medicine." Zack said as he handed me the syringe.
I nodded a thank you and put the needle in the IV.
I pushed it in and waited for all the medicine to go in before taking the syringe out.
"That should do it." I said as I handed the syringe to Zack. "Thank you."
He smiled and nodded before walking out.
"I'll be right back. I'll go get you some more water." I smiled as I grabbed his bowl.
The wolf continued to watch me and didn't make any sound.
"How's he doing?" Micah asked as she followed me to the kitchen part of the clinic.
This is where we hold all the food, water, and the medicine in the locked cabinets and fridges.
"Good." I said in relief. "He's not in a lot of pain anymore. It's so weird. And the fact that I watched a cut heal completely right before my eyes."
"You what?" Micah asked shocked.
I nodded. "I watched a cut completely heal. It didn't leave any kind of scarring behind it. The spot where it was, was completely smooth."
Micah's eyes went wide as she held the door open for me.
"That is strange. How is that possible? All those cuts on that wolf were deep. It would take a couple weeks for them to completely heal. And even then they would leave some sort of scar behind."
I nodded. "I know. I just didn't know what was happening."
Micah opened the door to the recovery room and we both stood staring at the empty cage.
"What the hell!" I screamed.
Zack and Troy both came running in with shovels.
"What's wrong?" They asked scanning the room.
"The wolf is gone!" I yelled.
"Why do you guys have shovels?" Micah asked laughing.
"We heard you guys scream." Troy said still looking around the room.
"We thought you guys were hurt or something." Zack said as he lowered his shovel.
Micah shook her head and laughed. "No you idiots."
"We need to go the security room. Check the cameras." I said as I made my way there.
Everyone followed and we soon walked in the room.
"Okay. Let's see what happened." I mumbled as I typed on the computer.
I rewind the video feed and we all sat back in silence to watch.
"Well there's the wolf." Micah mumbled as we watched the wolf walk out of the recovery room.
"What the hell?" I said amazed. "Is that a naked man?"
"Ew!" Micah screamed.
I watched shocked as the naked, bald guy ran down the hall.
"How the hell did he get in here?" Zack asked as Micah continued to cover her eyes.
"Do you think he took the wolf?" Troy asked.
"He had to of." I said as I fast forwarded the video. "The wolf was in critical condition. He couldn't have just walked out."
"Can I look now?" Micah asked.
I chuckled. "Yes."
Micah sighed in relief and removed her hands from her face.
"So what do we do now?" Troy asked.
"Troy. Call animal control and find that wolf. But tell them to be careful. He is badly hurt and is most likely to lash out if he feels threatened." I said and turned to Zack. "Zack you need to call the cops. Send them a picture of this man. I want him caught and I need to find that wolf."
They both nodded and left.
"Who the hell takes an injured wolf right out of a vet clinic?" I asked angrily as I stared at the computer monitor.
Micah shrugged. "I don't know. But we should find out where he got out. A naked man can't just walk straight out with a wolf."
"The back entrance." I said suddenly. "That leads to the garage where the trucks are kept or the other door."
Micah and both shot up out of our chairs and ran.
Once we got there, I saw the garage door open.
"That fucker!" Micah screamed.
"I hate people." I mumbled.
Micah nodded. "You and me both girl."
