Jack
"Damn girl." Micah laughed as we both cleaned up the table from the last surgery.
"What?" I mumbled as I stared down the table.
"You must really be thinking."
"Why do you say that?" I asked looking up at her.
"You've been cleaning that same spot for the last 10 minutes." Micah laughed.
I looked down and groaned.
She's right.
"I'm sorry." I mumbled as I cleaned more of the table. "I'm just thinking a lot about this date."
"What's got you overthinking?" Micah asked sincerely.
I shrugged. "I don't know. River seemed really nice when I ran into him at Starbucks. Then he got really weird when he heard that I have a date. And how he ruined my date by dumping his drink on Errold. What if he is like a control freak or something?"
Micah gave me a look. "Really? Jack. You could kick his ass if he tried to control you that much. You know that. And he did say he was jealous. Jealousy makes us do crazy things. And he bought you coffee an entire book series girl. I'd say give him a chance."
"You think?" I asked as I set the sponge down in the sink.
Micah nodded. "He's your type. Tall, tan, and handsome. And he seems rich."
I laughed and rolled my eyes at her. "You would say that."
Micah winked. "And when you guys get married, we can go get food and use his card."
"But what if he turns out to be like Derek?" I asked getting scared.
Maybe this lunch isn't a good idea.
"Jack." Micah smiled. "Not all guys are like Derek."
"All the ones I date are." I scoffed.
Micah shook her head. "Give him a chance. Maybe he'll really make you happy."
"Jack?" Mrs. Underwood asked as she knocked on the door.
"Yes?" I asked as I opened it up.
"A young man is asking for your presence. His name is River."
I nodded. "Tell him I'll be there in a second."
She nodded with a knowing smile. "I approve."
I groaned as she walked away.
"See!" Micah yelled pointing. "I'm not the only one who thinks that you should go out with him."

"It's just a friendly lunch." I said rolling my eyes.
Micah smirked. "You better reel that one in Jack. Embrace your inner whore and keep him."
"Not on the first date!" I yelled as my face got red.
"So you admit it's a date." Micah said smugly.
Shit.
"I hate you." I mumbled as I walked out of the room. "Watch Critter for me."
"Hey." River smiled as he saw me walk into the lobby.
"Hi." I smiled.
"These are for you." River said as he handed me some flowers.
I smiled at the beautiful lilies and I felt my stomach erupt in butterflies.
"I'll put them in a vase for you and you can take them home after work." Mrs. Underwood smiled.
"Thank you so much." I said as I handed them to her.
"You better treat her right mister." Mrs. Underwood threatened.
I shook my head as she walked to the break room.
"Ready?" He asked smiling.
I nodded.
"Thank you." I smiled as he opened the door for me.
The ride to where we were going was quiet.
But it wasn't an awkward quiet at all.
We made small talk here and there and he mainly asked what I liked. Like my favorite color, food, movie, and all that.
"How do you like the books?" River asked as we walked to wherever.
"I really like them." I smiled. "Nudge is so cute. And Gassy."
"Who?" River asked laughing.
"Those are two of the characters. I already found a spot for the books in my library."
"You have a library in your house?" River asked shocked.
I nodded. "Ever since I could read, my dad installed one for me. It's really nice. It has a stone fireplace, a couple window seats, and a bunch of books. A couple thousand actually. And I still have room for more."
"Wow." River laughed. "If I can't think of anything to give you as a present, I'm going for books."
I laughed, but stopped once I saw the meadow he walked us too.
"River." I smiled as I looked at the blanket and picnic basket that was already laid out. "It's beautiful."
"Thank you." River blushed. "I felt bad for what I've done and I wanted to make it up to you."
"It's really nice." I complimented.
We both sat down and he opened the basket.
"So we got some sandwiches, some fruit, sparkling grape juice, and some other things." River mumbled subconsciously as he pulled everything out.
"Watermelon!" I yelled as I grabbed the container.
"I take it you like watermelon?" River asked with a smirk as he saw my blush.
"Shut up." I mumbled.
My eyes went wide as he took out a giant bag of animals crackers.
"Animal crackers." I said softly as I eyed the bag.
River nodded with a sheepish smile. "They are my guilty pleasure."
"No way." I laughed. "Same with me."
"Really?" He asked as he opened the bag and handed me one.
"Oh ya." I moaned as I shoved the animal cracker in my mouth.

I know right. How lady like.
River laughed at my expression and I threw a small grape at him.
"You did not just do that." He said as he narrowed his eyes at me.
"I just did." I said smugly as I threw another one at him.
He smiled before he lunged towards me.
I let out a yelp as he tackled me.
But right as he touched me, I felt sparks instantly.
I ignored the sparks and rolled us over so I was on top and smashed a piece of watermelon on his face.
"How rude!" River gasped in mock hurt.
"Poor baby." I giggled.
"Ahh!" I screamed as River rolled us over.
"How do you like it?" River laughed as he shoved a watermelon on my nose.
"Ew." I laughed as I wiped my face. "You're so mean."
River chuckled as he helped me wipe the watermelon away.
I should probably do the same.
I lifted my hand up and wiped away a drop of watermelon juice as it ran down his chin.
"Thanks." River whispered as he continued to stare at me.
"No problem." I said softly as I smiled up at him.
River continued to look at me and he tilted his head to the side a little.
I looked at him in confusion.
"Jack?" River asked suddenly.
Whoa. Why so serious?
"Yes?" I replied in confusion.
"I know this is completely random and going fast. But I want to try something." He said seriously.
"Um what's that?" I asked.
"May I kiss you?" River asked with a small smile.
I looked up at him in shock.
I felt my face scrunch up in confusion, but for some random reason, I nodded anyway.
It was like I couldn't stop my head from nodding. It just did it on its own.
River smiled and leaned down.
He ran his thumb over my cheek slightly and his lips met my lips.
I gasped as the sparks intensified and River deepened the kiss.
River tilted his head to the side so he could get a better angle.
I felt my hands move by themselves and rested in his hair.
He pulled back slightly, but stayed close enough so his forehead could rest against mine.
"Wow." He said breathing heavily.
I nodded because I was so out of breath to speak.
That kiss...I've never anything like it.
Not even with Derek.
"Jack?" River asked as he held onto my face. "I would really love to do this again."
"Kiss?" I asked breathless.
What the hell Jack? Really? You ask .
River chuckled and pecked my lips again.
"I would love to do that again. And I also want to have another date with you." River said smiling.
"I would like that too." I smiled.
"Really?" River asked hopeful.
I nodded.
River gave me a toothy white smile and lightly kissed my lips again.
Damn. I don't think I could ever get tired of this.

"What are you so happy about?" Hank asked laughing as I opened the front door.
"Oh nothing." I said giddy.
I sighed and walked outside.
"Leo." I smiled as I sat down next to him with Critter.
Leo licked my face and I laughed.
"The date went well. Really well." I smiled as I remembered the kiss between me and River. "Maybe River really is different. Do you think?"
Leo nodded really fast.
It's still weird that Leo can understand me.
"He kissed me." I admitted suddenly. "It was amazing. I felt sparks. You know when you get butterflies in your stomach? Well I had a zoo inside my stomach." I laughed. "He was so nice and gentle. He even asked me. No guy has ever done that before. Derek would never ask. Like ya I like those little random kisses that come out of nowhere. But Derek's kisses, I don't know. They were forced. It didn't feel right but I ignored it because I loved him."
I scoffed at the image in my head when I first saw him in Georgia's bed.
"I was friends with Georgia. We were best friends." I said as I looked at Leo. "She asked me to come over one day, but I got bored so I went over there early. I heard noises from upstairs and that's when I saw it. Her and Derek."
Leo softly licked the tear that fell down my face.
"I really loved him. He was the first guy to try and be my friend not for my money. I didn't give him a chance at first because I thought that was all he wanted. But he kept trying. He would get my gifts and everything. I caved." I smiled down at the memory. "He knocked on my door in the morning and he wouldn't leave until I said yes to go on date with him. That's when my love story started. But 8 months later, I saw him with Georgia. She lost her bestfriend and he lost his girlfriend."
Leo cuddled up next to me and Critter licked my cheek.
"I felt stupid. Thinking that a guy would actually love me. I told him everything. Everything about how my parents could care less about me and everything. I trusted him. But he told Georgia everything. And now she always says something about how her parents love her. I try to not let it bug me anymore. But it does. I don't show it though. But it hurts to know that it still gets to me." I cried.
Leo whimpered and rubbed his snout on my cheek.
"Thank you Leo. For listening to all of this." I sniffled. "I know you are only a wolf, but it's nice talking to someone about it. The only people who know are Micah and Emily. And I want to keep it that way. I don't want anyone else to know. Especially River. That would be a nightmare. He would probably think I'm weak and pathetic."
I scoffed at the thought. He could be just like the rest of the guys.
"Well. I'm gonna head in. I'll see you tomorrow." I mumbled as I walked in my house towards the kitchen.
