《Slow Poison》CHAPTER 54

It's been two weeks since I caught Christopher with Sophia. It's been two weeks since I left his house and came back to live with Becky. And in these two weeks, my life has been really horrible. That night when I came home, I didn't expect to get a surprise like that. A terrible surprise to be specific. It's still hard to digest that Christopher would do something as horrible as that to me.
The moment I saw Sophia open the door of his room with a towel on, I was shocked. And then when my eyes fell on Christopher laying on the bed nearly naked, it felt like my world came crashing down on me. My heart broke into million pieces watching them being together in one room in that state. And the scene just reminded me of a glimpse of what my father did to us. He left my mother for another woman and I could see Christopher doing the same thing to me. And the moment I realized that I couldn't let myself stay under the same roof with him. So I left and came back to live with Becky in my old house.
It's such a weird thing that the house that I was living in a few months ago now doesn't feel like home. I hate to say that I miss Christopher's place and living with him. I wipe the tears that slowly begin to roll down my cheeks and try to take a deep breath. Why did Christopher do so? Why would he cheat on me? And after doing everything, he even had the audacity to explain what I just saw with my own eyes? I am equally angry and frustrated as I gobble fries from my sixth bowl of the day thinking about what happened that night. I am just really sad and you guys know I tend to eat freaking more when I am sad, especially junk food.
"Open the door, Nikki!?" Becky screams, banging the door again. Why can't she just leave me alone in my room?
"Go away, Becky. I don't wanna talk..." I reply to her, slumping into my blanket.
"Nikki, open the door!!!!" She yells ten times louder now, almost intending to break the door. What the fuck?
"Nikki? I swear, open the door, or else I am going to barge in like a fucking mammoth." She says in a low, threatening voice. Uff! She is so dramatic.
I know Becky wouldn't listen until I open the door. And from the way she is screaming, it wouldn't be long before our neighbors call the cops to get a complaint against us for causing a nuisance. I sigh and get out of the bed to open the door. I can't even weep in peace now.
As soon as the door opens Becky marches in, dashing me to the side, and scans the room.
"What the hell you think you are doing?" She crosses her arms and says, narrowing her eyes towards the bowl of fries resting on the bed.
I purse my lips and look away. Jeez, what's her problem?
"That poor guy has been showing up at our door for the past two weeks just to get a chance to talk to you and here you are drowning your fat ass into a bowl of French fries, not giving a fuck about anybody."

I ignore her sarcasm and ask her instantly with curious eyes. " Is he here again?"
She nods and I rush towards the window. I find Christopher pacing in front of the house, and my heart melts. He is here for me. Yes, Becky is right. He had been showing up here daily since I left his house. I notice that his hair is longer now, which makes him even sexier. Suddenly, I feel the urge to run my fingers through it. It makes me think about the time when we were last together and then my face hardens when I think about the night I saw Sophia in his room. He told Becky that he wants to talk to me. But I don't want to listen to him. How can I forget what I saw? I watch him stop for a second and my heart beats faster. I know what he is gonna do next. As he turns his head to look up, I move away from the window.
"How can you stay angry with him for this long? Don't you think he is too hot to be mad at?" Becky says cheekily when I turn to look at her.
"Stop it, Becky." I roll my eyes and say.
"Okay, fine." She throws her arms up in surrender. "Are you ever going to hear him out?" She asks after a moment with a frown on her face and at the same time Sam and Emily enter the room. Emily is holding Frosty in her arms. I noticed that he grows pretty comfortable with everyone except for Christopher. From the time both of them heard from Becky that I came back in an awful shape, they have been visiting constantly to check on me. I told them that they don't have to do it, but they just don't listen.
"What is there to hear from him, Becks? I caught him having sex with another woman." I huff angrily and answer Becky.
She narrows her eyes at me and walks towards me.
I look away from her and snort. "Fine, I caught him with a naked woman in his room."
She again glares at me, and I roll my eyes. I know I can't win. "Okay, she was in a towel. Which actually means she was naked."
"Nikki, you sound ridiculous. Just because Sophia opened the door in a towel and Christopher was in the bed with his boxers on doesn't mean that they were having sex." Becky says exasperatedly.
"What if they were just dry humping?" Sam says and for a moment the room grows utterly silent. We all just look at Sam in pure astonishment. After a minute, I let out a whimper and look away to control my tears. Maybe Sam is right.
When I look back, I see Emily and Becky shooting daggers at Sam. "Okay, I was just kidding. Calm down, ladies. It looks like you two would rip my ball out just with your glare." Sam states, looking a little baffled, and walks towards me.
He smiles and puts his arm around my shoulder. "Nikki, Becky is right. I hate that guy, but I can't see you suffer like this. Look at you? I don't want to be rude, but you look barbaric." He gets another dirty glare from Becky and Emily as he says that. "Okay, let's pretend that I didn't say that." He lets out an awkward chuckle and then says. "My point is you have to talk to him."

Becky reaches near me and pushes Sam aside angrily to stand next to me. "You said you have met Sophia, and she has got all those vamp vibes. Then how can you be so irrational about what Christopher told you? Maybe he was telling you the truth."
"And from the description you gave. This Sophia seems to be a total bitch. You shouldn't believe her." Emily sings along with Becky. I know they are right. Sophia really seemed to be a bitch from the first encounter I had with her. I remember how she and her father threatened me to get out of Christopher's life.
I suddenly consider giving Christopher a chance to explain, but then the image of him being in the bed with Sophia in the same room flashes in front of me, making me clench my jaw and say. "Emily, just tell Christopher to leave. I don't want to talk to him."
Emily looks at me in shock and then nods slowly. Emily and Becky exchange a few weird glances before she leaves the room. What was that for? Sam smiles sheepishly and follows her out soon, leaving me alone with Becky again.
"Okay, fine. Don't talk to him but at least, get out of this room Nikki." Becky says, looking at me after they leave.
"You have kept yourself locked in this room for the past 2 weeks. You just come out to grab your food and go back to sulking in your bed. You can't keep doing this, Nikki. You'll get sick." Her eyebrows draw together as she gives me a concerned glance.
"You need to get out. How can you forget about your work? You can't be so careless. You have a clinic to take care of, Nikki." I know she is right. I can't keep it unattended for this long. I need to go to my clinic. If I want a distraction, I need to work.
I sigh and nod. "I know."
--------------------------
If it would have been any other day, I would have been enthusiastic about meeting my next patient. But not today. From the morning I have been feeling irritated and tired, that too for no reason. I didn't intend to come to the clinic for that sole purpose. But just because Becky kept pestering about it, I had to. I thought it could serve as a good distraction, but now it feels like I made the wrong choice. It wouldn't be fair if I let this frustration out on my patient or their owner. I regret it now. I should have stayed at home until I got better.
I scroll through random stuff on my laptop and silently pray that I won't get any patients to attend to today. Unfortunately, that's when the door opens and a man comes in. I see that he has weird blonde hair and a similar beard as he stands at the door, looking at me. He looks a bit scary with those big glasses and a brown coat. I don't know why, but he looks oddly familiar. I clear my throat and look down, trying not to reflect my obvious irritation. I keep my vision fixed on my laptop as he sits in front of my desk, and I wonder why he hasn't brought his pet with him.
"How can I help you?" I ask him politely.
"Ma'am, my dog has a serious problem." He says, and I nod, asking him to keep going.
"He is suffering from a major heartbreak after his girlfriend left him." He says, pulling a stuffed dog out of his coat and places it on the table in front of me. "There was a small misunderstanding created by a bitch between them. His girlfriend thinks that he had been cheating on her with that bitch behind her back. But that's not true."
What the hell is he talking about? I frown and look at the man to check if he is okay. Has he gone mad or something? When I look at him closely, I realize why he looks strangely familiar. My eyes grow wide when I notice those familiar grey eyes behind those weird huge glasses. How couldn't I recognize Christopher's face behind that ugly blonde wig and beard? He pouts, making a sad face, and says. "Yes, Miss. I need your help to bring back his girlfriend."
"What the hell, Christopher?" I throw the toy that he brought on his face and stand up abruptly. "What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to talk, Cole..." He catches it instantly and looks at me with concern, removing his glasses and fake beard. "You don't pick my calls. You wouldn't meet me when I show up at your door. You haven't been here at your clinic since Sunday. How am I supposed to see you?" He stands up to look at me.
I frown. Then how the hell he knew that I would come to my clinic today? Wait! Now I realize why Becky and Emily exchanged those weird glances. I am so gonna kill them. "Haven't I made it clear to you that I don't want to talk?"
"Nicole, please. Give me just 5 minutes..." He pleads.
"Are you crazy? This is my workplace, Christopher. Do you think it's funny?" I stomp my foot angrily and yell. This is ridiculous! How can he do this?
"Nicole, I am sorry. Just listen to me..." He says trying to take a step forward but I stop him.
"I don't appreciate any kind of drama in my clinic. Please leave." I glare at him and say in a low voice.
When he doesn't move, I sigh in frustration and seethe. "Get out of my clinic."
"Nicole..."
"I said fucking get out of my clinic, Christopher..." I finally scream, losing my temper. Christopher stares at me in shock. From the way his jaws clench I can see that he is angry too. I cross my arms and look away to avoid the intensity of his eyes as he keeps gazing at me. It looks like he wants to say something but he is trying hard to refrain himself from doing it. After a moment, he purses his lips and storms out of the clinic.

Power is a thing that many people greatly yearn. Those with power yearn more power and those without power yearn for it. There isn't anyone born with power that they can call their own. Power is either earned or given and in reality it doesn't matter which is better, power is power and power is everything. This is another story that has been going around in my head and I just had to let it out. I think I did a decent synopsis on this one lol. I will not be dropping my other two stories and I will be releasing one chapter of this a week as well. Chapter release is honestly whenever I can. (Warning! Story is partially wish fulfillment.) The cover art used is from Google Images and will be changed when I create one or have one created for me.

Path of Righteousness
What do you desire? What are you afraid of? You run away from one, pursuing the other. Is that all you are? Conquer your fears. Dig to the bottom and confirm, what you really want... ...For you cannot escape suffering and death. You only have a little time. Use it wisely. Uru, a young boy with no talent for magic or fighting, sets out on a quest to become an avatar of order, the physical embodiment of righteousness, in a distant future, where control of origin energy allows people to defy physics and manipulate causality. Mocked by fate and broken by impossible dreams, all that's left is to stand in defiance to cruel existence. Because there is a Truth out there, somewhere. Singular, transcendent, eternal. What would you sacrifice for it? *** This is a fantastic sci-fi epic. It's going to blend both western and eastern traditional fantasy tropes – like might & magic and cultivation – with rational sci-fi grounded fully in reality, to produce a purely fictional fairy tale. I'd like to deliver something light-hearted and yet wholly serious. An uplifting adventure exploring the unfathomable reaches of humanity, free of indecency, with a healthy dose of humorous banter, legendary beings, and most importantly – lots of exciting, firework-filled mayhem! I've tried reading many web novels, but there's a fundamental problem with them – the eastern ones are annoyingly repetitive, superficial and morally destitute, while western ones are often dark, convoluted and profane. There's only so much one can do to filter out the bad and try to fill in the gaps with their own imagination. It's one thing to eat tasty fast food, but if it's moldy and filled with toxins, then it's not only poisonous, but also disgusting. The appreciation of beauty and higher values is disappearing at an alarming rate. Although there are throngs of talented people out there, none of them are creating what I want to witness – an inspiring battle against impossible odds, ending in absolute victory. A triumph of the spirit so overwhelming, it crushes the spectator into his seat and takes his breath away. I'm looking for a real paragon, so now I'd like to try conceiving one. *** The MC's name comes from Tolkien's Elven dictionary in Silmarillion, 'Uru' meaning 'Fire', and 'Dagnir an Uruloki' meaning 'Slayer of Dragons'. *** Note: I'm neither a native speaker, nor an aficionado of literature – I've never written anything before, and despite proficient English my literary prowess is abysmal. It therefore takes me a painful amount of effort to polish the chapters and bring them up to par. Last year I wrote and posted some on FictionPress, but I stopped since it wasn't going anywhere. The appalling amount of filth and mediocrity being peddled in all the media nowadays – a result of no conspiracy to manipulate the masses, but plain supply and demand – is no longer just the triumph of form over substance, but most worryingly corruption of the latter. Who wants to read about ideals anymore? And yet, masses flock together to gobble up perversion and depravity. That being said, I can't rule out pitiful exposure as the culprit to my failure, so I am now once again trying to increase it here, possibly for the last time. If there are still human beings present, hungry or in need of a detox after eating too much garbage, make yourselves heard, so I can see a reason to continue the story. Otherwise it's pointless – I'm not going to make fodder for the masses, and I'm most certainly not going to throw pearls before swine. I'll simply stop writing altogether.
