"So, what're new, guys?" Liam asked and looked between Harry and Louis where they were sitting around their usual table at the teacher's lounge on Monday morning. He immediately noticed that they both were glowing, with happy smiles on display.
"Ask Niall." Louis smirked.
"What did you do this time?" Liam question, looking at Niall instead.
"What? Look at them! It worked!" Niall said.
"Spill." Zayn demanded.
"I asked them out for dinner and then I didn't show up and they ended up having a first date. Right guys?" Niall explained with a sheepish smile.
Zayn and Liam stared at him in disbelief and then they burst out laughing.
"You're unbelievable!" Liam said.
"Oh my God Niall!" Zayn shouted, earning him disapproval looks from some of the other teachers.
"Well, something needed to be done!" Niall huffed.
"Why haven't you killed him yet?" Liam asked Louis and Harry.
They shared a look and smiled.
"We had a great evening actually." Louis answered.
Liam and Zayn smiled.
"Yeah?" Zayn asked.
Harry blushed and hid his face in his hand.
"Aaaaw, so cute!" Niall cooed.
"Let him be." Louis said.
"So, what does this mean?" Liam asked.
Harry glanced at Louis who smiled encouragingly at him.
"We're dating?" Harry answered, sounding unsure.
"We're definitely dating." Louis stated.
"That's great!" Liam said excitedly and Zayn nodded his head in agreement.
"Told ya! They just needed a little push." Niall grinned proudly.
"Hey Haz, who are we gonna set up Niall with?" Louis asked with a mischievous smirk.
"Oooooo, let's see..." Harry immediately jumped on board.
"No need for that guys." Niall protested.
"I just thought we would do a Niall, you know what I mean? When you least expect it you'll be on a date instead of hanging out with one of us." Louis smirked.

Niall had gone a little pale.
"You won't do that!"
"You'll just have to wait and see." Louis teased.
Their first classes were about to start and they left the teachers lounge. Harry had a busy day. The musical had premier two weeks from now and he was so proud of his students and how hard they worked to put it together.
The days went by fast. He and Louis had talked on the phone in the evenings and it was great but he really wanted to kiss him. On Wednesday he stayed an hour extra at work to rehearse the musical and hurried home to eat, shower, and get dressed for a date with Louis. He was really looking forward to spending some time alone with him even if they would be surrounded by other people at the cinema. Louis gave him constant butterflies.
The man himself came and picked him up and they drove to the cinema.
"How are you?" Louis asked as soon as they were seated in his car.
"I'm good. Great even. How are you?" Harry beamed.
"Great! I'm glad we're doing this." Louis smiled.
"Yeah, me too." Harry answered shyly.
Louis glanced at him and reached over to take his hand. That made the butterflies in Harry's stomach grow and he smiled a dimpled smile.
They didn't talk much on the ten-minute drive. Louis parked the car outside the cinema and walked around to open Harry's door for him. He took his hand again and they walked inside. They debated about which movie to watch.
"You choose. Anything works for me."
"Same here, what do you wanna watch?"
"I don't know. What do you wanna see?"
They burst out laughing. Louis closed his eyes and pointed at the board that showed which movies were currently playing and stopped after waving his finger around. He opened his eyes again.

"Fast and furious 8."
"Fine by me." Harry giggled.
Louis bought two tickets and they loaded up with popcorn and soft drinks. When they were let inside the movie saloon they made themselves comfortable in the back. Harry smiled when he saw that Louis had chosen one of the love seats, a two-person seat without an armchair between them. As soon as the movie started Louis put his arm around Harry's shoulders and Harry's heart took an extra beat. He had dated a couple of guys throughout the years but no one that he felt this comfortable with. It excited him. He put his hand on Louis's knee and nuzzled closer.
The movie was action-filled but Louis hardly noticed. His focus was on that big palm resting on his leg. Harry had moved it a few inches up. Heat radiated from his hand and it was all he could think of. It was silly, really.
Half through the movie he couldn't resist kissing Harry anymore and they spent the rest of the movie snogging like teenagers. They were brought back to reality when the lights came on and people started to leave and they snuck out of the movie theatre, while trying to hide their boners. They were both giggling when they reached the car.
"Great movie!" Louis joked.
"Absolutely." Harry smirked.
Louis drove them home again.
"Do you have plans on Saturday?"
"Yes, but I was gonna ask if you would want to join me. Zayn is doing one of his shows." Harry smiled.
"A drag show?" Louis asked with a delighted smile.
"Yes. It's a bit shy about it but I have already asked him if I can bring you and he's okay with it." Harry answered.
"He's shy? Drag show doesn't exactly scream shy." Louis questioned.
"He's marvelous on stage. No, he's a little nervous about your reaction." Harry explained.
Louis glanced at him.
"That breaks my heart. I'm gonna have a talk with him to ensure him that he has nothing to be nervous about. I love that he embraces that side of him."
"I think he would really appreciate that." Harry smiled.
"Are the rest of the guys joining as well?" Louis asked.
"Of course. Liam and Niall never miss a show. They sit in the front cheering him on." Harry answered.
"They're just wonderful, aren't they? So supportive." Louis said fondly.
"Yes, meeting them is one of the best things that ever happened to me. They really helped me accept myself." Harry answered.
Louis glanced at him. He wanted to become one of the best things that ever happened to Harry as well.

The underlying system on which the story runs is a work in progress (like the story itself!) so there may be adjustments to character sheets etc as the novel rolls out. The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
