《Alphas》Party troubles

The party was in full swing, music blasted through the air, people found themselves over by the snack bar and Brook found herself bouncing back and forth between groups of people.
"Hey stranger," Someone said.
Brook turned to see who it was, her eyes meeting a pair of light brown ones.
"Hey Kai," She replied.
She reached in for a brief hug, which he returned. "I feel like I haven't seen you since...Ya know."
Kai laughed, waving his hands in dismissal.
"It's only been like a week, I think? Has it been? Ah fuck it I can't remember."
This time, it was Brook's turn to laugh. She had forgotten how easy it was to talk to Kai, how natural and laid back everything felt. Brook felt it was different with Connor sometimes. She felt as if Connor could be an asshole.
Brook's mind jumped to Connor again.
Where is he? She wondered in her head, scanning the crowds of people for her mate.
"He's off talking to some of the elders," Kai answered for her. It was as if Kai had heard her thoughts, but really he just knew by the change in her expression.
Brook on the other hand, felt irritated that her mate wasn't bothering to greet her. This was her day anyways, not his.
She glanced back at Kai when he started to speak,
"You look gorgeous tonight, and Connor's an ass for not being over here."
It took Brook by surprise that Kai was complementing her. Both of them knew that if Connor heard that, he would be beyond angry.
But instead of saying that to Kai, Brook responded.
"Thank you, I have to say you look great tonight as well."
Brook admired how Kai wasn't normally the type to dress up fancy, but tonight he looked fancy.
He wore a pink suit, with a black tie and some black dress shoes.
Despite how most people were wearing oranges and yellows, Brook loved how the color suited Kai's complexion.
"Now don't go soft on me, Bradley. I still need someone to occasionally whoop my ass." Kai joked with Brook, "Speaking of whooping my ass, your mate is on his way over."

Brook turned around to see her mate approaching her. She could sense tension already radiating off of Connor, and she figured that was because she was talking an god forbid, laughing with another guy.
"I'm going to grab some drinks," Kai mumbled. He bowed his head at Connor, before he ran off.
"Great, you scared my only source of entertainment away." Brook said to Connor, who still had his eyes trained on Kai. "Hey! My eyes are here, not there."
Connor turned his attention to Brook, not bothering to hide his irritation. He hated how close Kai and Brook were, and deep down Connor had a feeling that Kai saw Brook as more than just a friend.
"Why were you talking to Kai?" Connor questioned, utterly shocking Brook.
That's the first thing he had said to her all day, and that was what he decided to say.
"Because he's my friend," Brook grumbled. She stared up at Connor with a glare, which he returned.
"Then why were you laughing with him?"
Brook could not believe what she was hearing, Connor was getting mad at her for laughing with another guy.
"Because that's what friends do," She snapped, "You'd know if you had some."
Connor felt his blood starting to boil and he could feel his wolf waking up. He hated when his mate was disrespectful, especially at a large gathering like this.
"I want you in your room by 12 tonight." Connor ordered, trying to assert his dominance to his mate. But that wasn't going to work out in his favor.
"Why are you acting like this?" Brook whispered. Even though she was irritated, she still didn't want to make a scene. "I mean out of all days, I thought you'd be happy with me. I'm officially the Luna."
Connor however, just rolled his eyes. Both of them knew that Connor didn't give a shit about what day it was or how important to Brook it was.
"You didn't even bother to tell me how I look."
"Well I don't know what you want me to tell you," Connor replied, "You look fine."
Brooklynn's jaw slacked a bit, and her wolf whimpered.

Why is he acting like this? Her wolf spoke to her, and honestly Brook didn't know why either.
"Can you please tell me what's crawled up your ass today?" Brook asked, "I don't know what I did to possibly make you this mad."
"Don't talk to your alpha that way," Connor growled rather loudly. He attracted a few confused people, who looked to Brook for answers.
"No, don't you talk to me that way. I'm your mate, not your goddamn slave," Brook defended herself, "And after everything that I've done for you, I'm stunned that you're acting like this. Members of my old pack are dead because of you, and my best friend is still missing because of you." Brook went to walk away, but couldn't when she felt a hand wrap around her arm.
She turned to see Connor, claws out, grabbing her arm.
Here we go again. Brook thought to herself.
By now, the both of them had attracted quite a bit of attention.
"Connor, please. Let's just enjoy the party." Brook tried to pull out of his grasp, but Connor didn't budge.
Brook could feel her wolf begging to be released, begging to put Connor in his place again.
But Brook was desperate to not cause a scene, so she tried pulling her arm away again.
However, this time Connor shoved Brook backwards. Not as hard as he could, but enough to send her onto her ass.
People murmured, and some went to help Brook to her feet.
Brook took her Luna necklace off, and handed it to one of the elders.
"Please keep this safe." She said, nodding at the elder who shot her a pitiful smile. She turned back to face Connor, who's eyes were black and trained on Brook.
"I really don't know what's gotten into you, but whatever it is you need to stop." Brook spoke, her voice filled with the alpha tone that her dad had originally taught her.
"You don't get to tell me to stop!" Connor yelled, charging at Brooklynn. He shoved her again, this time with an excessive amount of force which left Brook flying back into a tree.
She recovered quickly, and no longered tried to suppress her wolf. Within seconds, Brook now stood in her wolf form, ready for a fight.
Connor gladly shifted into his wolf, also ready to fight. And he was the first one to charge at Brook, who dodged him and sent a powerful bite to his shoulder.
She clamped down, tearing out a bite sized piece of his skin. He howled in pain, but Brook went in for another attack. Before Connor could respond, she body slammed him back into a tree. She bit and scratched him anywhere that she could.
His neck, his paws, his shoulders. They were all open to Brook's attacks. But she had grown distracted enough to where Connor kicked her off with his hind legs. Brook tumbled backwards, not reacting fast enough to avoid one of Connor's attacks.
He stood on top of her, delivering a crushing bite to Brook's shoulder. She felt and heard, her bones breaking. And she howled in agony, which soon turned to cries after her wolf shifted back.
A short lived fight, where Brook half-assed it and didn't think Connor would want to hurt her, ended with a crushed shoulder.
She lied on the ground crying out, while Connor stood over her snarling.
Brook regretted not fighting to her fullest, and thinking that Connor would be lenient on her. Now her shoulder would take some time to heal.
"Stop," She choked on a sob, "Just please stop."
Connor backed up a bit, but his eyes didn't soften. He still expressed extreme distaste and anticipation.
People gathered in front of her, almost as if they were guarding her.
"That's enough, Connor." She heard someone say, and she looked to see Naomi. Naomi glanced at Brooklynn with pained eyes, who was refusing to look at anyone.
The musketeers, who now kneeled by Brook's side, stared at Connor like a child would a monster. So did most of the pack.
And Connor, well he didn't know what he was doing. He didn't know why he wasn't in control of his own body, and he knew that he just ruined his chance with Brooklynn.
But Connor wasn't Connor.
