"You wouldn't kill you're own father." George grumbled to Brook, who stared with livid eyes at her father.

"You seemed to have no problem with killing me," Brook said. George appeared to be confused for a second before he caught on. She had heard him tell Connor that he was okay with her dying. And that hurt Brooklynn more than wolfsbane did.

"Brooklynn, I didn't mean-" Brook cut him off with a raised hand, she didn't need to hear any of his lies.

"I know where I stand in your life and I know that I do not matter to you," She spoke. "I know that your hate for Connor is stronger than family and I know that you meant every word you said about me."

Connor searched Brook's words for emotion, but he was met with nothing. She appeared completely and bitterly unbothered by her father. And that scared Connor.

"You do matter to me, you're the only daughter I have left–The only family I have left." To a normal person, those words should've sounded sincere. But Brooklynn knew better, she knew that he was just trying to save himself.

"I am not your daughter and you are not my father. My real father died a long time ago." Brook stared George in the eyes, feeling as if she was going to break right there.

She seemed like she didn't care, but hidden past layers of a bitchy exterior, was that same child who just wanted to please her father.

But it was too late for that.

And as her brain contemplated the solution to George, she was split between killing him or just letting him go.

The things that he said hurt Brook, and they made her realize that he really didn't care about her. He cared more about killing Connor than keeping his daughter alive and safe.

That was the ultimate betrayal. That was the last straw.

Make up your mind, child. Your time is running out. She heard the familiar voice of the Moon goddess reaching out in her head.

She hoped that the moon goddess would just give her the answers, she didn't know what the right thing to do was.

But just as Brooklynn began to raise her gun, another one fired. It pierced through the air just as it did to George's head, sending every bit of who he was onto the ground and onto the walls.

Brook stood frozen in her movements, mouth open with her hand–Still holding the gun.

The blood of her now dead father was dripping down Brooklynn's face and hands. She looked at him, his head blown in and no life left in him.

George was dead. Her father was dead.

Brooklynn turned her head slowly, wanting to get a glimpse of the person who did what she wasn't able to do.

Her eyes were met with Naomi's bloodshot brown ones. They appeared to hold remorse towards Brooklynn, but then a small smile broke into her face when she looked at George.

After all, George set the rogues up. He's the reason they all attacked in numbers. And he was the reason that Naomi only had one arm.

Brook turned her attention back to Connor, who managed to catch a sight of her tearful eyes. He saw her take one more glance at her father before she stepped over to Connor, who had nearly forgotten about the poison in his body.

But Brook noticed it, and with one quick tug on the silver chain, Connor was free.

She didn't bother to look down at her hand, which had probably been burned down to the bone thanks to the silver.

None of that mattered, she had to get her mate back to the pack so he could see a doctor. Brooklynn knew what poison her father had used, and thankfully it was easy to cure. But if they didn't get a cure, Connor would undoubtedly die.

"Can you walk?" Brook asked him, watching him struggle to get to his feet. His knees wobbled when he tried to step, eventually giving out on him.

Brooklynn managed to catch him, struggling a bit to hold him up.

"I'm going to shift," She said. "It'll be way faster and as long as you can hold on, everything will be fine." Connor nodded through heavy lids, his injuries starting to take a toll on him.

She shifted as fast as possible, and laid down. She sensed Naomi helping Connor onto her back, and she looked up at her. They both made eye contact for a brief second, before Naomi looked away in guilt.

Brook brushed off the dark cloud that was resting on her shoulders and stood up slowly. She felt Connor grip her fur when she started to walk.

Everyone retreat, we have Connor. She spoke into the pack link, taking off trotting down the hall.

Naomi followed closely behind her in human form, struggling to keep up even at a mere trot.

Brook was becoming anxious, she couldn't leave Naomi behind but she was slowing them down. And there was no way that Brook could carry her on her back also.

But almost as if her thoughts had been answered, she saw Kai appear out of nowhere. He glanced at Brook, and then at Connor, and finally at Naomi.

"Get on," He shouted. Naomi, pushing her pride aside, climbed onto Kai's back after he shifted. Finally, they all took off at a fast pace.

Brook ran next to Kai, her pace growing slower each second. She had been used to being the fastest. But now she could barely keep up with Kai.

Her legs had become numb, and every inch in her body was begging her to stop. Her body was begging her to just lay down on the ground and fall asleep–To just give up.

Come on, baby. She heard Connor's voice entering her head, giving her the little bit of motivation that she needed.

Fighting through the pain that she was feeling, she managed to run faster. She allowed herself to feed off of her anger. Every ounce of it was supplying her with strength.

She thought about how Connor was in the process of dying, again. Her now-dead father had Connor beaten and stabbed and poisoned to the point that his body was shutting down.

She kept thinking about how Fiona had went missing and nobody had heard a word from her–Her best friend was dead for all she knew.

She thought about the rogues and how her dad set that up–He was the reason that Naomi almost died. She hated him, but she hated herself too.

She regretted not firing that gun. She was even more of a coward than he was.

Her attention came back to reality when she felt as if her legs just couldn't carry her weight anymore. Every bone and every hair on her once strong wolf, now felt unbearably heavy.

They had been running for what felt like ever, and maybe it was. Neither of them focused on anything other than running. Because now Brooklynn and Kai, were fighting for their lives and the two on their backs.

And like machines, they were programmed to keep going. One leg in front of the other, over and over and over. They were going until they burnt out–Until they were out of time.

And Brooklynn had used up all of her time.

With one last breaking step, she collapsed. She didn't bother to try to get up, she already knew that it would be pointless.

She had used up every ounce of strength and perseverance that she had–Leaving her with the thought of death close in her head.

But before Brook lost control of her body, and succumbed to sleep, she heard howling. And not the howling of her old pack which was out to kill her, but rather her new pack.

Her family.
