《Alphas》Moon Goddess

Connor could hear the blood rushing through his ears, and he could feel the sweat that had built up in his palms.
He was afraid for the first time in his life. He knew that what he was doing would result in his death, but that wasn't what scared him.
He was scared for Brooklynn. He knew that if he died, Brook would die too. Except her death would be much worse than his, it would take months for her to die all thanks to the mate bond.
Her angelic face popped into his head, remembering the private moment he'd just shared with her a few hours ago. He'd wanted to take her right there so badly, not just to be able to mate, but to be able to know Brooklynn inside and out.
He imagined her, slowly dying and crying out for him, knowing that he would never return.
But he had to do this. For his pack, and for himself.
And so he put his hands above his head, showing that he carried no weapons as he walked onto the land of Brooklynn's former pack.
"Don't move!" A voice snarled, and Connor glanced around to see dozens of guards coming towards him.
He didn't remember them having as many guards the last time he was here. Maybe since then, they'd changed their protocol.
"Connor Sebastian," Someone spit. Connor turned to a guy who stood about two inches shorter than him but had eyes that were designed to kill.
And when the butt of the gun slammed into Connor's face, he knew that his end was coming.
Brook awoke with an agonizing pain in her jaw. It felt as if something had just broken it.
She screamed for help, crying out for Connor. She wondered where he went, she knew that he fell asleep next to her last night.
And now he was gone.
She wailed in agony-More pain tore through her body.
"Moon Goddess!" She yelled, clutching her body which felt like it was now being burned with silver. "Help me." She cried out, tears ran down her face.
The door flew open to reveal two startled looking teens from the group she trained; Nevaeh and Emilia.
"Luna!" They both yelled, rushing over to her side. They examined her, looking for injuries, but they couldn't find any. "Brook, what's the matter?" Emilia asked, shooting a panicked glance at Nevaeh when Brooklynn cried out again.

She shook her head, not being able to speak. The pain she was feeling was indescribable and by far the worst pain she had ever felt.
And she knew what was causing it.
Connor.
It didn't take her long to realize that Connor was yet again in danger. But this time it was different-Instead of just feeling weakened and exhausted by him dying, she could feel herself dying too.
She knew that she didn't have much time left.
"Connor!" She begged, grasping the covers on the bed until her knuckles turned white.
"W-where's Connor?" Emilia asked Brooklynn, who was struggling to respond.
"I'm going to get help!" Nevaeh said to both Brook and Emilia before sprinting out of the room.
Another pain ripped through Brook-This time taking place in her shoulder. She screamed again, tearing at her skin and hoping to help it.
"Just hold on," Emilia said. Brooklynn however was starting to lose consciousness. "Brook." She could faintly hear Emilia speaking to her, but her voice seemed to be getting farther and farther away until her body gave up.
And then everything went black.
Brook found herself waking up for the second time, but unlike the first time she woke up, she wasn't in pain.
Realizing that she was sitting down, she hopped up.
Brook glanced around, taking in her surroundings. She stood in a forest, which trees were made gold and a sun that illuminated the forest with deep oranges and yellows.
It seemed like heaven.
And then that raised a question in Brooklynn's mind. Was she in heaven?
"Yes child." Brook turned to see a woman who stood in front of her. She wasn't like any other woman though, her hair was white as the snow that had just started falling. Her skin, instead of being a neutral color, glowed blue-Like a paled turquoise. "You stand here in heaven, but you have not died on Earth."
Brooklynn stared at the woman, hundreds of questions filling her head. How was she in heaven if she was still alive? Was she dreaming? Who was this woman?
But she was able to answer the last question for herself. She had seen this woman. She couldn't remember where she'd seen her, but as she stared at the woman more, she realized who she was.

"Moon Goddess." Brooklynn stood in awe at the Goddess who had guided her ever since her mom died. She greeted Brooklynn with a smile that brought a feeling of familiarity to her. But Brook couldn't pinpoint why this woman was so familiar.
"Hello, Brooklynn." The Goddess's voice seemed to wrap around Brook like silk. It was the same voice that she had been hearing for years, and nothing brought more comfort to Brook than that.
But Brook remembered what had been happening on Earth, and suddenly her comfortable state went away.
"Why did you bring me here?" Brooklynn asked the Goddess, who looked as if she'd expected Brook to ask this.
"I needed to warn you." Those words twisted Brooklynn's stomach into a knot, making her want to empty her guts. "There's an awakening, child. Your life will change, once again. You'll be thrown into war and death will be around every corner that you turn. The air that you breathe will smell of fire and ashes and the people you've trusted. I can't tell you who to trust and who not to trust, for you must figure that out for yourself. But whatever you do choose, just keep on fighting."
Brook stared at the Moon Goddess, wanting to run far away from her problems. She wanted to run from her fear, but everywhere she went it seemed to follow her.
"Moon Goddess, what do I do?" Brook asked, hoping that all of the answers to her problems would just become clear. But they didn't.
"Be strong. Be brave. Know who you trust, Brook. You have a target on your back. Learn how to use it to your advantage."
None of the words that the Moon Goddess said made any sense. If anything, it felt like the moon goddess was making Brooklynn piece together a puzzle. But that puzzle seemed to have an infinite number of pieces.
"But I don't even trust myself, how will I trust others?" Brook's voice was trembling, making her feel weak in front of the Moon Goddess.
"Listen to yourself, deep down you already know who you can trust. Now you just have to find who you can't-And I will tell you, your father is not the man you think he is."
Brook thirsted for more answers, but the Moon Goddess was being vague. She wasn't willing to give Brooklynn the answers, and she wasn't going to tell her the outcome of this all.
"I'm scared." Brook felt her lip quivering, feeling like a child who'd just lost her mother again.
"Don't be. Find solidarity in your loved ones-In Connor." Completely forgetting about her own fear, Brooklynn's mind filled with thoughts of Connor.
"Is he okay?" Brook could feel her wolf waiting in anticipation to hear the news on her mate.
"He's alive, but you need to find him. I will give you the strength to save him, but you don't have much time to save him. Once he dies, he dies. I do not bring people back from the dead." The Goddess seemed to be warning Brook. It was the type of warning that freezes your heart and forms a lump in your throat. "It's time for you to go back now."
But Brooklynn wasn't finished, she still had one more thing that she wanted to say.
"Please tell my mom that I love her," Tears started forming in Brook's eyes. The Goddess offered her a small nod with a sad smile.
"She already knows."
And before Brooklynn could say anything else, she heard voices calling her-Telling her to wake up.
She blinked once, allowing herself to follow the voices.
She looked back once more at the Moon Goddess, before the snowy world turned into a hospital room.
The beeping of hospital machines filled Brooklynn's ears for the second time in a couple of days.
She cracked open her eyes, slowly and then all at once.
But she didn't notice all of the presents or get-well-soon cards at first, instead she noticed the bright-red curly haired girl named Fiona.
"Rise and shine, sunshine. We have a certain mate to save."
