《Alphas》Grateful

Brooklynn held the disposable phone in her hand, slowly dialing the number to her dads phone. She didn't know if he would pick up the phone...She hoped that he wouldn't.
"It's okay, Brook." Connor said, offering her a reassuring smile. "You don't have to if you don't want to."
"I don't want to do this," Brook mumbled. "But I have to." She pressed call on the disposable phone.
The phone rang for what seemed to be forever, but really it was only three times.
"Hello?"
Her heart jumped when she heard his voice, it was him. It was her dad.
"Dad?" She choked out, her voice sounding weak and fragile.
"Brooklynn?" He sounded shocked, and without speaking Brooklynn nodded. She knew that he couldn't see her, but she felt that she would start crying if she had to talk. "Brooklynn are you okay? Where are you? Have they hurt you-"
Her dad started bombarding her with question after question, not giving her any time to speak. She waited patiently for him to finish, giving her enough time to collect herself.
He finished talking, eagerly waiting for answers.
"I'm sorry dad, but I can't tell you where I am," She spoke. "I can promise you that I am safe."
"Why the hell can't you tell me where you are? Is it Alpha Sebastian? Is he making you stay there?" She glanced at Connor who rolled his eyes, she could see how hard he was trying not to say anything.
"I just can't, Dad. And Alpha Sebastian doesn't know that I'm calling you." Brooklynn felt overwhelmed with guilt as she lied to her dad, but she pushed it down to be dealt with later.
"Brook, I don't know what's going on. I need to know where you are so I can come rescue you. You need to come home." Brook could hear her dad becoming anxious and confused.
She had wished to see him, to just talk to him in person. Maybe he would understand a bit more what she was trying to say.
"Dad," She spoke. "You can't come here. You need to call off the attack." Her voice was soft and sorrowful. She'd felt like she was the worst daughter in the world. Maybe she was.
"What? How did you-"
"Because I know you, Dad. I know how much you love me and how you'd do anything to protect me. But you need to let me go, I promise you that I will be okay." Brooklynn didn't believe what she was saying, she was in a foreign pack that she was just starting to understand.

There were very, very few people in this pack that she was only beginning to trust.
She didn't know anyone here besides Connor and Naomi. And she was supposed to be the Luna.
"Brooklynn, I don't know what you're thinking or if you're being forced to do this, but you are being foolish. Those people, that monster, they kidnapped you. They took you against your will away from me, and for what? Because alpha Sebastian is your mate?" Brook could hear the anger in her fathers voice, she could hear the hurt.
She knew that it probably just felt like she stabbed him in the back. It probably felt like she was the worst daughter that anyone could ever have.
And she didn't blame him.
"Dad," She said. Her voice was firm, as if she had made her final decision and nothing would change that. "Call off the war, it's in both of our best interests."
Brooklynn's dad paused, and for a few seconds Brook thought he might actually stop it. But she was wrong.
"Absolutely not. I don't know who the hell you think you are, but that mate of yours is a monster. He's taken so many lives, and for what? Land? Or maybe he just feels good murdering and ruining lives. Either way, he's going to get what he deserves and you can't do anything about it. You're going to come back home, and we're going to find a better husband for you. End of discussion."
Before Brook could say anything, her dad hung up. He left her standing there in shock and in slight disgust.
How could he say that to his own daughter?
Brook didn't want to admit it, but she was bothered by what he'd said. She never would have thought that her dad would threaten to force her into marriage, or willingly try to kill her mate or even go through with a war.
She knew that the war was unavoidable, and that the lives of everyone involved were at risk. She knew that the death toll would rise every second if this war was to take place.
She didn't want anyone to die.
"Brooklynn." Connor said, bringing her out of her thoughts. "You know what's next." They both shared the same grim look.
Connor had never worried about war before, his pack had always been in some type of war. So how was this any different?

It was different because it was for Brooklynn. He didn't realize how important she was until he'd taken her. And now he had three packs joining together to kill him.
"Brooklynn," Connor choked. He did this when he'd get scared. His words would become hard to speak and he would choke on them. "Please help me prepare our pack. Help me make some more allies."
Brooklynn had never seen Connor scared before, she had seen him worried or anxious, but never actually scared.
"I can only do so much, Connor. You've made so many enemies, what allies do you have left aside from the ones all the way across the country?" Brook wasn't trying to be mean, but she knew that this had to be said.
Connor looked down, feeling like he had already lost.
"Is this how you normally get before a war?" Brooklynn asked, rolling her eyes at how pitiful Connor was being. "I mean come on, you're pack is the most feared pack in the nation. You might not realize it, but that already gives you a big advantage, plus your pack is huge."
Connor glanced up at Brooklynn who was looking at him with a bored expression. He felt silly for the way that he was acting, and quickly changed his demeanor.
"Okay, Brook I need you to train the teens everyday except for Saturday. I'm going to call an emergency meeting."
"Do I get to come?" Brook asked, watching Connor look at her hesitantly. She hid the irritation that she was feeling towards Connor, she couldn't understand why he wouldn't take her with to the meeting. "Fine, don't take your mate and Luna with to a very important meeting." Brook turned away from Connor.
"Fine! You can come..." Connor wasn't ashamed of having Brooklynn as a mate, it was actually the opposite. He didn't want any of the guys checking her out, but he knew that he couldn't keep Brooklynn hidden for that reason.
"One thing though," Connor paused. "It can get a bit...um chaotic?" Connor said, almost as if it was a question.
"What's the worst that could happen?"
Brooklynn would soon come to regret saying that.
Less than an hour later, Brooklynn wished that she could stab herself in the ears. Maybe that would be less painful than what was happening now.
"Everyone just shut the hell up!" Connor shouted, slamming his palm on the table which they were sitting at. Everyone fell dead silent, Brook didn't even know if people were breathing anymore. "Thank you," Connor said.
Brook could tell that Connor was stressing out, why wouldn't he?
He was in a room filled with highly respected pack members who were acting like children. They were all screaming over one another, trying to get their own opinion heard. Nobody was listening what anybody else had to say unless it was their own words.
"As I was saying, we do not know when this war will be but-" Before Connor could speak, everyone started jumping in.
Connor and Brook knew that they were freaking out, but neither of them had seen this much disrespect from grown adults.
"Hey!" Brooklynn screamed, causing the whole room to go quiet. "Your own alpha is trying to talk and you guys are disrespecting the fuck out of him. He might have made a promise to do anything for this pack, but he can't do shit if you all are acting like imbeciles!"
Brooklynn at the time didn't know how much fear she could bring to people, but she soon found out as she saw everyone look to the ground in submission.
"Now, if you shitheads would like to live, I would suggest that you listen to your Alpha. That's the wisest thing to do." Brooklynn leaned back in her chair, leaving Connor stunned.
He finally saw why people wanted her as an alpha so badly, and he finally could tell why she had so many people respect her.
Because she didn't bother to earn the respect, she demanded it.
Not with brutal force like how Connor did, but with the way that she was as a person.
She stuck to her word when she made threats or gave speeches. She didn't have to hide anything, she spoke the truth with ease.
And that made Connor proud.
He was grateful to have Brooklynn Bradley as his mate.
