《Alphas》Firecracker

One call.

Connor hoped that the call that he just made might be able to save Brooklynn and his mate bond. After all, what other option did he have? She despised him.

She looked at him as if he was shit on her Louboutins. He might as well be. Everything he had done since the day he'd met Brooklynn was wrong. He was a dick and he knew that.

But maybe, just maybe there was still time to save his mate bond.

"Alpha," Naomi knocked. Connor waved her in, and followed by Naomi was a very fiery red haired girl. She walked with the same confidence that Brooklynn had. And when she saw Connor, her cold demeanor became even colder. "Thank you, Naomi. You're dismissed." Naomi walked out, shooting the red head a curious look.

"You must be Fiona." Connor spoke, watching her narrow her eyes.

"Really? I thought my name was Susan." She replied sarcastically, leaning against the wall. "And I'm guessing that you're the Alpha?"

"You can call me Connor." Fiona didn't bother to hide her disgust at the bastard who kidnapped her best friend. He didn't understand what the pack was going through.

"Where's Brook?" Fiona asked, almost as if she was ordering Connor to tell her.

Though Connor was trying his best to ignore the disrespect that this girl was showing, he didn't appreciate her bossy tone.

"I get that you want to see my mate, but there's one rule you need to follow." Connor paused, letting his words sink into Fiona's head. Maybe all of that red dye had made her a bit delusional.

"Do not disrespect me. Especially on my pack land." This time it was Connor ordering Fiona.

Luckily, Fiona wasn't stupid. She knew when she needed to step back.

"Fair enough, but don't expect me to like you. That is my best friend that you abducted." Connor and Fiona both nodded in understanding. "Now if I could, I'd like to see Brooklynn."

Soon, Connor was leading Fiona through the various halls of the house. Fiona didn't care to voice how impressed she was with the house, it was indeed a gorgeous pack house.

"How long has this pack been around?" Fiona questioned, glancing at all of the antiques that decorated the walls.

"Two hundred and thirty-three years," He replied.

"Two hundred and thirty-three years of murdering and kidnapping, fascinating." Connor stopped dead in his tracks and turned to face Fiona. A wicked glare consumed his sharp features.

"Watch it," He hissed. "Don't try to judge what you don't understand. I do not care if you are Brooklynn's best friend, do not fucking disrespect me or my pack. I have done stuff that I am not proud of but everything I do has reasoning behind it. I don't expect your puny brain to understand that, but I do expect you to know what lines you shouldn't cross." Fiona stared in disbelief at the angry alpha.

"I'm sorry." She muttered, glancing down at the ground. Connor nodded, before he turned around and continued walking.

After minutes of walking in silence, they reached a door.

"Brook I have someone here for you." Connor shouted, knocking on the door. Footsteps approached them, and then the door flew open.

For a second Brooklynn stood there in shock. She glanced at Fiona, then at Connor, then back at Fiona.

And after a few seconds of silence Brook threw her arms around Fiona, and Fiona did the same. They stood in the doorway, embracing each other. Neither of them said anything.

Connor watched with a trace of sadness, he had dreamed of Brook hugging him like that. But he knew the chances of that happening were slim to none.

"I'll leave you two alone." Connor mumbled, watching as Brook pulled away. She nodded, and for a very brief moment she smiled at him. It wasn't a fake smile, nor was it a sadistic one, it was a kind smile.

Brook watched as Connor left, and before he turned the corner she saw him look back. Brook didn't know why, but she felt upset watching him go.

She shook away her feelings and turned back to Fiona.

"He's really charming." Fiona said sarcastically. "I mean he flipped shit when I pointed out how murderous this pack is..."

Brook laughed a bit, nodding her head in agreement.

"Yeah he has a slight dominance issue. You should see the fights we get in." Brook saw Fiona glance at her in concern. "Fiona, I'm fine. Aside from the first week, it's actually not too shabby here."

"The boys here definitely aren't bad. In fact, your mate is pretty hot." Fiona giggled, shoving Brook's shoulder.

"Hell yeah he is.. Especially when he's mad, which sucks because when he's throwing me against a wall I can't help but want him to throw me on the bed." Brook said, thinking about how good their sex would feel.

"You horn-dog," Fiona shouted. "H-o-r-n d-o-g, what does that spell? Brook." Brook grabbed a pillow from the ground and pelted Fiona with it. Fiona put her arms up in surrender, but her head fell back in laughter.

After they had both got done laughing, Brook asked a question which had been prodding her brain.

"How's the pack doing?" She saw Fiona get serious. Their eyes met, and the look in Fiona's eyes was alarming.

"Twelve of our best fighters are dead, but other than that we're recovering. Since you left they moved me in to teach the rookies hand-to-hand combat."

"How's my dad?" Brooklynn asked, waiting for a response which seemed to take forever.

"He's planning to attack."

"Here?" Brooklynn asked, sounding shocked. Fiona nodded. "He can't, he'll get everyone killed." Brooklynn grew concerned for her father, his pack is only a third of the size of the Darkclaws pack. He would get himself killed.

Fiona looked down, contemplating whether she should tell her best friend the reality of the situation.

"Fiona...What is it?" Brook asked, demanding Fiona to tell her.

"Brook..." Fiona paused, looking at the ground.

"Just tell me," Brook laughed. She was starting to worry, but she was desperately trying to hide it.

"Your father has allied with two other packs, the Eclipses and Red river."

Brook felt her stomach drop as if it was a thirty pound weight. She didn't know why she felt sick, Connor kidnapped her and she should want nothing more than to watch him die.

But she didn't.

She thought of how he let her get away with so much. He was power hungry, and when she came here she didn't understand how hard it was for him to allow disrespect. But now she did, two weeks later and she saw what lines he allowed her to cross.

She thought of the smile he'd given her when she gave some girl an ass-whooping. She had beaten one of his pack members and he was proud of her.

She thought of how he brought Fiona over here, that small gesture meant so much to her.

"I don't hate him," She mumbled to herself.

"Excuse me?" Fiona asked, her eyes narrowing. "Please tell me I did not hear you just talk to yourself like you're on some cookie cutter Disney shit."

Brooklynn laughed at Fiona, but no such laughter came from Fiona.

"What?" Brook muttered, glancing away from Fiona.

"I can't believe you. Brooklynn Bradley has caught feelings for Connor Sebastian. In case you forgot, he kidnapped you."

"Oh trust me, I'm not catching feelings. We just...understand each other." Brook tried to explain, but it was clear that Fiona wasn't believing her bullshit.

"Sure. The only thing you two understand about each other is the need to reproduce." Fiona cracked a smile at Brooklynn, who was laughing. "And don't even try to tell your best friend that you haven't caught feelings. If feelings were the flu you'd be dead by now."

"What makes you so sure that I'm madly in love with him?" Brooklynn asked, cocking her head to the side.

"I saw the way you looked at him earlier. You might be good at hiding your feelings from everyone else, but I know you. And it's okay, I might not understand why you're falling in love with the spawn of Satan, but I do understand love." Fiona spoke as if she had prepared this speech in her head a million times. She did.

"I'm worried about him. When I first came here I wanted nothing more than to watch that handsome face of his burn, but now that scares me. I don't know why, maybe it's the mate bond or maybe it's me. I don't want him to get hurt."

"You know Brook...Connor's made a lot of enemies. He has few allies that actually like him." Fiona said, feeling sorry for Brook. She fucking hated Connor but she could tell that Brooklynn didn't.

"You know that I have to tell him, right?" Brook stated, and Fiona nodded without hesitation.

"But you need to have him keep it on the down low. Have him try to make some more allies, and teach his pack how to fight hand-to-hand because they suck ass."

"Oh trust me I know," Brooklynn said. "I beat one of their best fighters with practically my pinky." Fiona clapped for her best friend, who stood up to take a bow. "I mean I fucked her up in about a minute. Here she was talking-"

They got cut off by Connor opening the door.

"It's time to go." He said, nonchalantly. Fiona nodded and stood up. She wasn't going to argue to stay longer because she knew that that would be plain stupid.

So they said their pitiful goodbyes, the lingering fear that they wouldn't be seeing each other anymore filled the air like smoke.

"You better treat her like a princess- no a queen!" Fiona said, pointing a finger threateningly at Connor. She turned back to Brooklynn and smiled sadly. "I'm going to miss my baby B, take care of yourself."

And with that Fiona left, leaving Connor and Brook together in silence.

"I'll be in my office." Connor said, starting to walk away.

"Connor, wait!" Brook shouted, watching Connor turn around. "There's something I need to tell you..."
