《Alphas》Prologue

Brooklynn sat at the edge of the lake, where the lake and forest met. She had been coming here since her mom passed away. It was her safe spot. The spot where she could get away from her dads bullshit and the packs nonsense.
Sure she loved her pack, and her dad, but they were always so uptight. They never let me have any fun, Brooklynn thought. She recalled the conversation that she'd just had with her dad, who also happened to be the alpha of the Crescent River pack.
"Brook," He had said, "I am tired of you always acting like a child. First you're out with Sam and then Blake and then God knows who else. I mean seriously, it's time for you to stop fooling around with every guy you meet and settle down. Find a mate."
She had a lot of responsibilities. But she was a wild child. Brooklynn loved to play with guys. She loved to watch them chase their tails like dogs, trying to figure out what she wanted. She loved breaking hearts, because the day her mom died was the day that her heart broke.
The other packs knew of Brooklynn. She was beautiful and as conceited as it sounds, Brooklynn knew it too. She knew her looks drew the guys in. The way her striking blue eyes captivated anyone who happened to look into them.
Her brown hair stopped a couple inches above her tail bone, which complimented her tan. She was taller than most of the other girls. Being about 5'8ft. She loved wearing tight clothes, flaunting her body wherever and whenever she could.
All around the nation she was known to have the personality of a firecracker. She was hot tempered and wild. Her dad once tried to force her into marriage. That didn't exactly work out in favor of either of them. Brooklynn hated relationships. She didn't need anyone holding her down. She was afraid of losing her freedom.
She did like fucking on the other hand...
"Brook!" Someone shouted. Brooklynn turned to look at Fiona, her lifelong best friend.
Fiona was the only person that didn't get shut out of Brooklynn's life when her mom died.
"Hey stranger." Brooklynn replied, sliding over so Fiona could sit on the rock with her.
"Stranger?" Fiona asked. "I saw you yesterday. Remember, you kicked Garrette's ass during training. That made my day."
Garette was Fiona's lying son of a bitch ex. Brooklynn hated him more than Fiona hated him. She got him sent to the pack doctor yesterday for breaking his arm and a couple ribs. She didn't care. He deserved it for cheating on Fiona.
"Yeah. My dad said I took training a little too seriously and that breaking his arm wasn't necessary," Brook said, "It may not have been necessary, but it was certainly enjoyable." Brooklynn smirked, causing Fiona to snicker.

"So. Is your dad still pressuring you into settling down?" Fiona asked, sweeping some of her freshly colored, red coils away from her face.
"More than ever." Brooklynn sighs, laying back on the rock. "It's not happening. I'm not getting a mate, he can forget it." Brooklynn said angrily. Fiona chuckled.
"What is it with our parents?" Fiona asked. Brooklynn glanced at Fiona, wondering what actually was with their parents. "My mom keeps trying to set me up with older guys." Brooklynn rolled her eyes.
"Sometimes, I hate having everyone know who you are. I'm expected to be poised and perfect. Instead, I'm reckless and stupid, as my dad puts it." Brook said through an angry glare.
Fiona shared the same look.
"You're only 18." Fiona said, cocking her head to the side.
"So are you," Brooklynn laughed. Brooklynn kept thinking about the argument that she had earlier with her dad. She understood that he was only trying to protect her from herself.
Brooklynn had a secret that only a few people knew. And by few she meant Fiona and her dad.
Brooklynn was able to communicate with the Moon goddess. For some reason the Moon goddess had chose Brooklynn to be the protector of the pack. The Moon goddess was like a mom to Brook.
Brook was incredibly fast and strong. She was the best fighter in her pack whether she was in wolf form or not. She was also very useful during battles for territory.
She captivated intruders with the color of her wolf. Her wolf was one that people had never seen before. When fully shifted, she was gold. Smooth, silky gold. It was a sight to see. And then her eyes, they stood out so well against her coat. Her eyes were forest green, contrasting with the gold on her coat.
But due to her undeniable beauty, Brooklynn had to watch out for sick and perverted wolves who were as disgusting as the janitor in the pack who tried to get with her dad. Bweh.
"What?" Fiona asked, noticing Brooklynn's irritated mood.
"My dad yelled at me for half an hour this morning," Brooklynn answered. Fiona didn't have to ask why because Brooklynn had already answered it. "He found out I snuck out with Jake..."
"At least he didn't find out you almost slept with Gustavo. That wouldn't have went well." Fiona said, causing Brooklynn to nod in agreement. Gustavo was part of a rival pack that had been interested in stealing their land, though they were a weak pack so they were nothing to worry about.
"My dad would've disowned me." Brooklynn laughed.
The wind blowed, throwing all kinds of scents into their noses. For a second, the smell was calming and relaxing.

Then Brooklynn caught a scent that made her want to vomit. "Fiona..." Brooklynn whispered, glancing at Fiona to see her eyes already black.
"It's the Darkclaw," Fiona whispered. "Brook watch out!" Fiona screamed. Brook turned around just in time to see a dark gray wolf running at her.
Brooklynn didn't have time to think as she quickly pulled out a knife as the wolf reached her. The wolf ran straight into the blade, decapitating the wolf.
"Run!" Brooklynn screamed, shifting into her gold wolf. Her wolf was excited to fight, for some reason fights never scared Brook. They made her feel alive.
Fiona shifted as well, the both of them taking off and running like mad men. Howls erupted from Brook and Fiona. They were trying to alert the pack before it was too late.
Only for a second, they were just running through the woods which seemed peaceful. Then, they reached hell.
Countless wolves were already lying dead on the ground. Children were standing over their dead parents, screaming and crying. It made Brooklynn sick. What kind of heartless monsters could slaughter this many innocent wolves?
What kind of heartless monsters could dare to harm Brook's future pack?
The Darkclaw could.
As she ran through she caught the eye of many males. She cursed, but her wolf smirked as the wolves started to close in on her. But there was so many, anyone could catch her off guard.
Brooklynn yelped as she was slammed to the ground. A wolf was snapping it's jaws viciously at her, Brooklynn was barely holding the wolf back. She looked to see Fiona in the same position as her.
Brooklynn moved her head down quickly as the wolf went to bite her neck. She bit into the wolf's neck, tearing it's throat out in one swift motion. She threw it off of herself when it went limp.
Fiona also managed to get the wolf off of her. They wasted no time to get to the center of it all. Brooklynn had to find her dad before the alpha of the Darkclaw found him.
When Brooklynn arrived an amazing smell filled her nostrils that made her wolf go crazy. Her wolf became restless and was begging her to follow the smell. But she pushed that aside when she saw her dad...and the other alpha in a brutal battle.
Brooklynn don't! Fiona yelled through the pack link, but it was already too late. Brooklynn threw herself at the alpha, causing her and the alpha to go tumbling into a tree in a heap of fur.
Instantly, the alpha had her pinned underneath of him. He looks pissed. Brook thought, already accepting her death. At least I saved my dad.
The huge white and black wolf growled at her, burying his face in her neck. She felt him sniff her. This is it. She was preparing herself for the pain to come when the wolf ripped out her throat.
Closing her eyes and waiting for her death, Brook felt time slow down. The excruciatingly good smell filled her entire body. It was honey and lavender. That was the smell. This time, she couldn't push aside how crazy her wolf was acting.
She opened her eyes, letting out a sigh of relief when she realized she wasn't dead. The alpha was staring down at her, still looking annoyed. Hey I'm not dead. Brook cheered in her head. She hoped she didn't just jinx her luck.
She could've sworn the wolf was staring at her for ten minutes, when it had only been ten seconds.
You must be the infamous Brooklynn Bradley. The wolf said. Brook tilted her head.
How can he talk to me? Brook thought. Then it clicked. Alpha Connor was her mate.
Brook could have sworn her heart was going to burst out of her chest. Out of all fuçking people it had to be him? Why not just shoot me now. Oh so cruel world, Moon goddess why would you do this to me?
Get up. The alpha ordered, climbing off of her. Brook slowly stood up, feeling small compared to the enormous alpha in front of her. The alpha wasn't just tall, his wolf was muscular.
Brook saw Fiona running towards her, and Brook went to go over to her. But the alpha stepped in front of her, snapping his jaws at her.
We're leaving. He growled.
What makes you think I'm coming with you? Brook asked, testing her luck. The alpha growled at her. Brooklynn stood up straighter, challenging him.
If you don't, I will kill them all in front of you. He threatened. Brooklynn stared at him in horror. He shoved her forward with his head. Brooklynn looked back at her pack for the last time, and let out a low howl.
I will make your life a living hell you asshat. Brook growled, snapping her jaws at the alpha who just roughly shoved her forward.
Brook didn't know what was gonna happen. All she knew was that she needed to make it back to her pack, her family.

The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
