"hike." Patrick says and they play starts. Rich, the receiver, is wide open but Patrick hesitates then throws the ball but it flies two feet over Rich's head.
"Zach." Coach Kemp says. Zack takes his place.
"Hike." Zack says. Rich is open and Zack throws the football, it is a perfect spiral. A beautiful pass. I lands in Rich's hands.
"Dylan." Coach Kemp says. I take a deep breath. I look to see Dean, Gavin, and Tony sitting in the bleachers. They all give me a thumbs up. I get in the shotgun position.
"hike." I yell. The center snaps the ball. I look for someone to be open, then Rich is open. I throw the ball it sails through the air. The ball lands in Rich's arms. And he runs to make the touchdown.
After ten agenizing minutes coach Kemp finally announces who will be first string quarterback.
"First string quarterback is," he says. I hold my breath, along with almost everyone else. "Dylan Brynn."
"What?" everyone says.
"And Zack and Dylan with be co-captions." Coach Kemp says. Everyone is speechless. "Practice over." Coach Kemp says. As I walk to the girl's looker room Zack calls my name. I turn around and take off my helmet.
"Yes?" I ask.
"You don't deserve to be quarterback." He says.
"Why the hell not?" I ask.
"Because you are a girl." He says.
"And it looks like you were beat by a girl." I say and walk away. Then I feel something hit the back of my head, the force sends me to the ground. I hear the team laughing. Chance helps me up.
