"She's alive, Kabir. Neha woke up."
That was the only thought that was running on repeat through Kabir Kapoor's mind all day. His wife, ex wife, had woken up from a coma with amnesia.
"She still believes that you're her husband. Hate us all you want but she needs you."
Neha's parents and Kabir never truly gotten along even when he was married to her, so this voicemail from them was unexpected. However Kabir knew that no matter how strong their hatred for him was, it was overpower by how much they loved daughter. He knew that they would have called him if it was not important.
The very last thing Kabir wanted to do was see his ex wife.
"Kabir... Baby...Kabir? "
He looked up to see his wife Serena with his daughter Pooja walk into his office in their house.
"Papa." Kabir only had a moment to see his little princess before she tackled him into a hug.
"Hi meri princess." [My princess] He placed a quick kiss on the top of her head, "How was the park?" Today was the today that his wife would take their daughter on their mommy daughter dates while Kabir has a few hours to himself to complete important work before Pooja glues herself to her father's side.
She giggled, "Mommy let me get ice cream."
Kabir glanced at Serena who playful place her hands up as a sign of surrender, "Our princess got an A on her math exam."
"I'm very proud you of baby." Kabir tickled her before sweeping her into his arms again.

"Papaaaa." Pooja complained pushing away from her father.
"Achaa Pooja baby go shower now, aapke homework kar ke hain." [okay, Pooja baby go shower now, you still have to do your homework] Serena said shooing her out of the room.
"Jaan. Something on your mind." Serena questioned as she sat down on the chair opposite of him. She began to tie her hair with a hair tie as she wait for husband to respond.
Kabir sighed. There was no point of hiding this from Serena. She knew who Neha was and exactly what she meant to Kabir.
"Ri, its Neha." He paused, "She's awake."
Serena's face fell just as Kabir expected. They had not discussed Neha nor mentioned her name since the day Pooja was born. In order for Kabir to move on with his life, he had to put Neha at the back of his head for Pooja's sake.
"She's what? Kabir how do you-"
"Her parents left me a voicemail." Kabir said trying to keep his voice level as he talked.
But his voice falters, "She has amnesia. They want me to fly out to India."
"Are you okay?" This question takes Kabir by surprise.
"Y-yeah. I think I am."
At this point Serena was standing behind him, massaging Kabir's shoulders, "Baby. I think you should." She said using the same soft coaxing tone that she used with Pooja
Kabir furrowed his eyebrows, "Serena-"
"No. Kabir this is something that you need to get off of your conscience." Serena firmly interrupted, her emerald eye staring deeply into his hazel ones, "You need to let this guilt go. You need to see her because until you do, you won't be at peace."
For once Kabir was speechless. He had millions of thoughts but couldn't find the right words to articulate them properly. He knew that the situation between them wasn't ideal but Kabir knew that this was he couldn't run away from.
"Nothing is going to change." Kabir assured her with a quick peck on the lips, "Gosh I love you so much for understand." He whispered as she leaned into his arms.
"I'm not worried about us. I'm only worried for how she reacts to this." He heard Serena's respond and he could only pray that Serena would forgive him.

A Girl and Her Food
When a lost girl wakes up without a name, she quickly finds herself alone in a way that people around her can’t fix. Without a real plan and desperate to find what’s wrong with her, she thrashes and bites to stay alive. But human beings are weak things, that band together for strength, no matter who we are. Now if only she could work up the courage to ask one question... It’s normal to get stronger when you drink the blood of monsters. Right? Things to expect: - A powerful but kinda neurotic and emotional protagonist, with some degree of weak to strong. Or maybe strong to stronger, honestly. She's pretty rational and practical about things but won't always make the best decisions, so be warned if you super-dislike characters doing dumb stuff for emotional reasons sometimes. - Lots of dialogue and characterization, especially as we get more into it. It's focused on a single POV, but there might be some sections of other POVs later on, I'm not sure right now. - Magic is on the softer side, but I'll try to keep things fleshed out enough to avoid any obvious "well-established magic could have seemingly instantly solved this problem" moments. - I didn't add the mystery tag because I feel like it implies that this is a detective novel or something, but the story is absolutely incredibly opaque at times. So you'll have the most fun if you go into it trying to puzzle out the nature of events before they're explicitly explained!😇 - Also, I added the genre for completion, but it's gonna take a while to get to the romance. Please wait warmly and have some tea. Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge!
