《Football Girl》Chapter 12

BRYSON'S POV:

The next day at school i ignore Aya throughout the day. I can feel her watching me, but i can't make myself look at her or talk to her.

I know i shouldn't have told her what really happened at the party, but she looked so upset and i just wanted someone to know the truth because i have been lying to everyone, including, myself, about what happened that night.

"Hey, Bry, are you ok?"Jake asks as we head to football practice.

"Yep, completely perfect,"I reply and Jake raises his eyebrows at me.

"Oh really?"Jake says skeptically.

"Yeah, really, don't test me Jake. I am captain fo the football team. I could make you run 20 laps around the track,"I warn him.

Jakes grins and slapss my back.

"I'd like to see you make me,"hee jokes.

I am about to reply when the cheerleaders walk by us, with everysingle one of them glaring at me. Sharon's glare is particullarly bitter as she storms past me.

“Wow, what did you do to them to make them look at you like that?” Jake asks in surprise.

“Not them, just Sharon. I basically got her detention,” I explain and Jake whistles in appreciation.. He has never liked Sharon.

“That’s what I’m talking about,” Jake says and holds out his fist for me to bump.

“Do I pay you two ladies to just stand around?” Coach yells and I grin at him.

“You don’t pay us at all, Coach,” I yell back.

“Don’t give me your sass, Bryson,” Coach says.

“I will give you all the sass I want, I’m captain,” I reply with a wide grin.

“I’ll de-captain you,” Coach says.

“Is de-captain even the term for it?” I ask him and he shrugs carelessly.

“It is now. Get on the field and get ready to start running,” Coach says and I groan.

Great. Of course we’re running again.

“Are we going to actually practice anytime soon? Our next game is this Thursday and it’s already Tuesday,” I complain.

“Well, I guess you guys shouldn’t have gone to that party,” Coach says with a smirk.

“So, you don’t care if we lose then?” I ask with my eyebrows raised.

“I didn’t say that,” Coach says.

“Great…” I mutter to Jake as we walk onto the field. The other guys are already there, but Aya’s not.

When she jogs onto the field two minutes later, I scowl and walk over to her. She is talking and laughing with Max and Caleb.

“You’re late,” I snap at her and she flinches, but then stops herself form showing any other outward appearance.

“I am not. Practice doesn’t start for another two minutes,” she says.

“So? Did you notice that everybody else is here ten minutes early?” I reply and Caleb narrows his eyes at me.

“Back off, ‘your highness’. There is no law that says she has to be here early,” Caleb snaps at me and I glare at him.

“I will put you strictly JV if you talk back to me one more time, Caleb,” I threaten.

“Go ahead, captain. See if I care,” Caleb sneers and I clench my fist.

“Why don’t we all just take a chill pill and talk this out rationally?” Max suggests.

“Stay out of it, Max,” both Caleb and I snap.

Max scowls at us.

“Well! The nerve of some people,” Max says in mock hurt.

“Everybody on the line. Time for ten in ones,” Coach yells and everybody groans. “It’s your own fault,” he continues.

“this is not over,” I snap at Aya and Caleb.

“I will gladly beat you in a battle of who’s right,” Caleb snaps back. I glare at them one more time before running over and lining up with the rest of the team.

AYANNA’S POV:

I can't believe he is back to acting like a jerk. I thought after last night when he told me what really happened the night of the party, that we would be on nice talking terms, but obvisouly not.

"Don't listen to him, AYa. He's just a dick,"Caleb says and i forcec a smile.

"Yeah, Aya, just ignore Bryson and everyhting sould be fine,"Max says with a grin.

"Didn't i tell you guys to line up? Let's go,"Coach yells at us and we jog into line with the rest of them.

When he says go i sprint one way and back, but my hearts just not in it and by the third one i am behind everyone, which has never happened before.

"Jones! Go faster! If you finish last then everybody will have to go run three miles before continuing with the rest of the running," Coach yells and i sigh.

Of course this is happening to me right now. Coach always picks the worst times to push me.

I speed up a little bit so that i finish second to last. Coach glares at me.

"That's not what i meant and you know it. What's the matter with you today? You usually always finish in third,"Coach says and i shrug.

"I don't know,"i reply.

"Well, then, everybody back on the line,"Coach explains and everybody groans.

"Nice going, Aya,"some of the older guys snap and i sigh and look down at the ground.

"Hey! I never said it was Aya's fault. So stop being petty and start running,"Coach growls and blows his whistle.

This time when i start running i don't slow down at all, but keep at a sprinting pace the entire time. When i reach the end i flop to the ground gasping and realize that i beat everybody on the team including Bryosn.

When i look at everybody else, i realize they are still on their 8th one. I try to sit up, but my stomach doesn't agree with me and i end up throwing up whatever was in my stomach.

Coach walks over to me and pats me on the back.

"Nicely done, Jones,"Coach whispers.

"Well you can all thank your new pal, AYa, that you don't have to run anymore for the rest of the week. Now let's get practicing our palys for this Thursday,"Coach explains..
