《ginger & brunette {an Elmax ff}》Chapter 13 - Little Miss Fake Smile

My alarm is ringing me out of my sleep. I force myself to open my eyes and turn off the clock. A headache is starting to hit on me. No wonder, I cried myself to sleep and that was around 4 am. I rub my face to wake myself up more. I guess I got to get up for damn school. Let's see how many people I'll count calling me a dyke.
I jog downstairs, my school bag with me. I walk into the kitchen, taking a sip of mom's coffee. "Hey Maxine, that's my coffee!", she means. Yeah no shit mom. "Sorry", I just answer and leave her standing there.
I pull on my red Vans, grab my skateboard and go outside. The rain stopped, so it's a sunny Monday.
I arrive at school. I really hoped, that something would run me over, but of course it didn't. And of course I have to see the yellow pizza boy truck, where Eleven and the some other 'party members'(I hung with them the past few weeks) are arriving to school. Whatever. I pick up my skateboard and walk towards the entry, ready to be bullied again.
Nobody talks or even looks at me yet. Well, then inside of the shit building. I make my way to my locker, still no harm. Huh? Oh. Eleven just arrived. Of course. Wait there she goes.. through the entry.
She looks beautiful. She has black pants, a t-shirt with a yellow-black pattern and suspenders on. Also she wears new, white sneakers. (She looks a little something like that: )
As soon as she sees me, she freezes. Mike is telling El something and takes her hand. He doesn't seem to see me, or where El is looking. Anger is starting to settle in me. Didn't they fucking break up?! I hate Mike so much, I should be the one taking her hand. He should just piss off. But of course she doesn't want that.

I realize, that I got jealous. Oh my god Max, you got to fix yourself, for real.
I just roll my eyes, get my books and shut the locker and make my way to class.
Finally the two veeeeery long and boring hours of history are up. I walk downstairs, still nobody calling me a dyke or looking at me. Huh... I don't get it. Don't they all have something against lesbians? Or.. didn't Eleven tell them..?
"Hey Max", somebody snaps me out of my thoughts. It's Lucas Sinclair. Behind him, the rest of the party. Eleven doesn't look at me, she's just standing in the corner, fidgeting with her suspenders. That's how it's going to be now huh? Well I don't want to bother her. "Max! Hello?", Lucas says and sways his hand infront of my face. "Oi fuck off", I just say and walk off.
That was pretty shitty. I dumped my new friends for El. Nice job Max. Anyway I guess I have to spend my break with something or someone else. I go to the schoolyard and find a free table. I settle down and put my school bag up on the bench.
I don't have anything to eat, but I'm not hungry anyway. Maybe I have some comics with me... I start to search in my backpack.
"Well hello there", someone says behind my back. Whoever the girl is, she sounds like a total brat. I turn around.
Of course. It's Angela. And her friend group.
"What do you want girlie", I ask her.
"You're sitting at our table love", she says, fakingly nice with a fake smile.
"First, don't call me "love" ever again, second I-do-not-care", I tell her and turn around again. A second later, Angela and her stupid gang sits with me, around the table. "So. You're Maxine Mayfield, huh?", she starts. "It's Max", I correct her and rummage in my backpack again. "Yeah, yeah.. Maxine sounds better", she just babbles along. I give her a weird look. "Well okay Angie, why do you talk to me again?", I cut her off. She looks disturbed at me. "Stop calling me Angie", she means. "Well as long as you're calling me Maxine, you can forget it Angie boo", I say and give a fake smirk back. Angela's eyebrows raise. Her friend is trying to hold a chuckle I think.

"Fine, Max.", she finally answers. I give her an ironic smile and I turn back to my backpack again. Ugh I forgot my fucking head phones. Angela starts to babble again. She's so annoying- why does she have to talk to me?
Me and the party are sitting on the little meadow, in the schoolyard. "So.. El. You almost haven't said anything today. What's up?", Mike says.
"Uh yeah.. not in the mood", I reply. My eyes scan the yard, to find Max. After a while of looking, I finally find her. My heart drops.
She sits by a table with Angela. This Angela, that always harasses me, that hurts me. My stomach is turning upside down. Why does she sit with Angela?! W-... what if she told Angela all my secrets? No no no... NO! Tears roll down my eyes. "El?!", Will suddenly says. The whole party looks at me. "Oh my god what happened?!", Mike asks. "Yeah what is it?", Lucas means. Will looks very worried and crawls over to me. He wipes my tears away. "It.. It's nothing", I tell. "Is it because of Max?", Dustin guesses. I look shocked at him, then to Mike. Did he tell them? But Mike looks as confused as me. So he didn't. "Yeah what is up with you? You were so close the past week and now? She's just suddenly pissed at us." Lucas agrees. Too many questions.... help. I clinch Will's arm. He holds me tight. "Stop bombing her with questions", Will says.
"It's ... we had uhm a ... fight", I tell the party. Lucas' eyebrows rise. "Can we please don't talk about it?", I ask quietly. "Yes of course. It's your choice", Will immediately says, "...right guys?", he adds. "Yes!", Mike agrees. "Y-Yeah right", Lucas and Dustin nod.
I think Angela wants to be friends with me; she babbled for the past 5 minutes. Fuck her, she's annoying as hell. "So, Max, do you know this Jane?", she asks me. By the mention of El's name, I get a goose flesh. "Yeah, I do", I nod slowly. "She's so annoying right? Stupid little snitch", she laughs. My hands tense up and anger comes up in my body again. I can't hit her. I can't get a rebuke again, for fucks sake. I have to keep my anger issues together. "No she's not Angela", I just say instead. "What?" "She's not a snitch Angela", I repeat. "For real? You support that little bastard?", she laughs with dumbass her gang. I take a deep breath, trying to hold all my anger back.
"Angela leave it", I tell her. "Yeah whatever..", she just answers and scoffs. I roll my eyes. "Angela, honestly, why are you even talking to me?", I ask her. Nothing comes for a while.
"Because you're the new one, we wanted to test you a little bit. If you're acceptable or not", she explains and puts on her fake smile again. Her gang agrees and laughs. I'm getting a head ache. "Isn't it a bit late for that? I'm here since like two or three weeks, little miss fake smile", I just answer, get up and go to class, because the bell rings to my second period.

Azarinth Healer
A new world with nearly unlimited possibilities. A status, classes, magic and monsters. Sounds good? Well, for Ilea it didn't come quite as expected as for some other protagonists, nor was there a king or god to welcome her. The grand quest? Well, she might figure that out someday but for now, a new world with new food is prize enough. Her fists at the ready, she's prepared to punch and get punched, however long it takes and however many limbs she might have to regrow. A story I've started writing now quite a while ago. Transported to another world, somewhat standard fantasy setting with my beginner attempts to make it dark but funny. There are Litrpg elements here but I do hope it's not too heavy and annoying. The fights should be interesting and aren't just numbers vs numbers. Contrary to the title the protagonist will be quite an offensive fighter. Ilea Spears is your average sarcastic kick-boxing fast food worker and soon to be student. She will be transported to another world rather conventionally and will be confronted with survival in the wild. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. My experience is incredibly lacking. If you find yourself hating it early on, do convey your anger in a detailed comment or review :) I want to get better but without any feedback it's simply quite difficult. Quick heads up: Around chapter 120 there are a bunch of longer PoV changes that I discontinued again shortly after. The Arc around chapters 150-200 is darker than the rest and the themes shift quite a bit. Just know that it goes back to what you've come to know after that section. Thank you for reading. Quick update June 2019: Many complaints regarding the formatting, specifically spacing in conversations and of course the usage of the present tense in the first 36 chapters have been addressed. I'm of course learning by the day but compared to how it was before it should be an improvement at least. Chapters usually around 3k words Cover art by Kevin Catalan

Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.
