《Blind Truth Book 1 [TinCan Au]》CHAPTER 4 : SELF CONSCIOUS

Everything seems to slow down every Sunday, even the busiest streets of Bangkok get some calming down before starting another work week. Can was already feeling better. He invited Techno for some ice cream so they went to the nearest mall to hang out. "Do you think I'm handsome?" Can asked Techno while he scoops on his strawberry sundae. "Do you think other people would see me as handsome?" "Wow! Here we go with those randoms questions again." Techno replied. "Why did you ask?" "Nothing. I'm just curious." Can answered. "You are handsome, Can. In fact, you are way more handsome that 99% of all of the boys in school." Techno started. "Honestly, you could pass as a model or an idol." "Aren't you just saying that because you're my friend?" Can asked. "Why? Do you want me to say that you're ugly instead?" Techno joked. Can frowned a little. "I'm being honest to you, Can. You're cute. You are handsome. I mean, with a face like yours and your beautiful smile... Every heart would melt just seeing them." Can's frown turned into a little side smile. "But do you think someone would like me..." Can asked shyly. "even if I am blind?" Techno didn't know how to reply. There's a slight tone of sadness in Can's words and for some unknown reason, it broke Techno's heart.
Tin has been enjoying his time with Can lately. It's hard to believe that he, the school's notorious troublemaker has found sanctuary in a blind boy's company. It's not really about the free noodles anymore. It was all about the time they spend together.
How Can would fascinate him with his vast knowledge about things. How he would Impress with his uncanny but good taste in music. How he would talk so lovingly 'bout his parents end brother, somethings he wishes he has.
And how Can would create this incredible sense of comfort end calmness whenever he's with him. Maybe it's all about the fact that Ca is blind. He is void of the usual pre-judgement of the eyes. He was made to understand people more based on how they feel and not how they see.
Can could not see him, but he could see right through him. And to Tin, that makes a whole lot of difference.
It was another rainy day, Tin and Can have to walk a little faster so they get to the dorm before it poured. Can prepared their usual cup noodles and custard bread, while Tin was busy fiddling with his phone as he waits. "Aren't you lonely in here?" Tin asked. "You don't have a television. You don't have wifi. At least get a pet or plant or something." "l don't mind, Tin. In my world, I like peace and quiet. Besides, I have my music and audiobooks on my phone to keep me company whenever I am bored." Can answered.

"Psshhh..." Tin hissed. "To be honest, your place is so depressing. There's nothing else to look at.... Except you...." He uttered shyly. Can blushed a little. "Not a bad sight, huh?" He grinned shyly. "No... Not at all." Tin replied, now he's the one blushing. Good thing Can couldn't see. Can's phone suddenly rang and the Super Mario theme played as his ringtone. Tin couldn't help but smile. "Hello, N'Lay!" Can answered the call. "Yeah, I'm back in my dorm... Yes... Okay.„ I will call you later... Yeah... Okay... You too... I love you too. Bye." "Sorry, that was my sister. He always checks in on me, usually, he calls or texts around when he's back home from work. Unless it's his day-off like today so he can call me earlier." Can explained. "That's a cute ringtone." Tin uttered. "Yeah?" Can replied. "My sister loves Super Mario. He is obsessed. So I assigned him a special ringtone, so when he calls, I knew it's him right away." "Really? How about your mom and dad?" Tin asked. "My mom's ringtone is Jolene by the Beatles. And my dad's is Billy Jean by Michael Jackson." Can answered smilingly. "Oh, Techno's ringtone is Walking on Sunshine, by Katrina and the Waves." He starts humming its tune.
Tin grabs Can's phone from his hand, and typed in his number and saved. Then he gives it back to Can. "What did you do?" Can asked. "l just saved my number in your phone, you dumbass" Tin quipped. "Sorry. I said, I just saved my number." "Oh okay." Can replied, already unfazed by Tin's usual change in tone and language. "I'm heading out now. Don't thank me every day, because it's hurting my ears already. I'm only doing it because I was told to." Tin said, stood up and fixed his shirt and jacket. "There's barely two weeks left anyway, just bear with my thank you's for the next couple of days left." Can answered. "So, thanks again for walking me home today." Tin scratched his head. "Whatever, Can. Thanks for the food. As always." He put on his shoes and opened the door. "Call me when you need anything." Can replied with a soft yes as he gave a friendly small bow "Give me a proper ringtone, okay?" Tin grinned as he walks out the door. Can was left sitting on his bed smiling, clutching his cellphone on his hand near his chest.

Tin went to the party with his friends. They got baked, wasted and plastered till they can no longer drag themselves home.
That same night, Can was awoken by a weird noise from outside his window. Like someone was lurking, someone was watching him.
He gotta do what he needs to do!
It's past 2 AM in the morning and Can was awoken by same weird noises outside his window. Like someone was lurking, watching him from the outside.
Can moved slightly towards the edge of his bed. He slowly reached his hand underneath to get the baseball bat he's hiding. It was given to him by his sister, only for self-protection, just in case someone breaks into his room. He heard another noise coming from outside the window, the rustling of the plants outside, followed by some thuds on the window pane. And then he heard a soft but solid knock on the glass panel of the window "Who's there?" Can asked as his heart started beating faster. He gripped the baseball bat tighter.
He heard another knock on the window and a soft slurry mumble. "It's me Tin. Please let me in." It took him a minute to figure out whose voice it was. He dropped the baseball bat and immediately opened his window. He grabbed Tin's hands clinging on to the windowpane and helped him reach over. He pulled Tin in until he landed on his bed. He smelled like all kinds of smoke and alcohol.
Can scrunched his nose at the awful sensation. "What are you doing here? Why are you here?" Can asked in high pitch tone but in almost a whispering manner. "Hehe, hi there!" Tin flashed his boxy smile waving his hand at Can, his eyes droopy and looking very wasted. "What's happening? Why are you here?" Ca asked in a slightly panicked tone. "If our landlady finds out I'm having an illegal visitor at this ungodly hour, I will be kicked out of this dorm." "Calm down, Can. I just came to bring you this." He reached out for his jacket's pocket and brought out a small cactus plant in a tiny pot. "Oh shit, it's broken." He referred to the chirped and cracked part of the pot. Tin grabbed CAN's hand and place the plant in there. "It's not the thorny kind so that should be alright to your feelings." He said, in between hiccups. Can felt the tiny plant in his hand.
"Okay, I'd better be going." Tin stood up, slightly misbalancing on Can's bed. "Goodnight, Can." He started walking towards the door when Can stopped him. "You can't go out in there." Can exclaimed. "Someone might see you." Can didn't know what to do. "Okay, guess I'll just jump out the window then. This should be fun." Tin said as he walked back to Can's bed. "Wait." Can hold Tin's arm. "Why don't you stay for a while to sober up a little, yeah?" Tin looked at Can in the eyes. "You know what? Ai'Ae was right. You are quite cute." Then he slightly touched Can's chin endearingly. "I'll make you some noodles and coffee." Can said, getting up from his bed and walked towards the cupboard, hiding his smile from Tin.
The two shared their favorite ramen end e cup of coffee. They just ate quietly in Can's dim-lit room, until Tee was too drunk end full end passed out. Can carried him to his bed end tucked him under his blanket. Can could no longer sleep and just waited for the morning to come.
It was already close to dismissal and Can was already preparing his stuff in his backpack. The bell rang and him end Techno readied themselves to go home when Tin just appeared at the door---waiting for Can "I'll walk him home." Tin told Techno.
Techno gave Tin an angry look. before patting Can's back and saying goodbye. "I'm sorry, Ai'No!" Can shouted. "Don't worry, Can Maybe next time!" Techno shouted back. "When Satan's already beck to hell!" Can giggle.
"What was that?" Tin asked.
"You have told me why Ai'No is mad at you." Can spoke as they started walking home. "l don't get it."
"Do you really wanna know why?" Tin asked, nervously.
Can nodded.
"Promise, you wouldn't judge me?" Tin asked.
"Try me." Can replied.

Parental Controls
Reeve Williams always felt more at home in vivid virtual reality than in drab real reality, partly as an escape from the very real embarrassment of her technically inept parents, Walter and Wanda. When Reeve’s parents give her a new total-immersion virtual reality system for her birthday, Reeve reluctantly agrees to show them what it’s like…just for a few minutes. But a mistake only her technophobe father would make leaves Reeve facing the prospect of spending months in the greatly accelerated, fantastically complex, brutally unforgiving game world. With her parents. Posts will be every M/W/F. If I ever decide to try to turn Parental Controls into an ebook, I won't do so in such a way that I'd need to take down what I've posted to Royal Road. Thanks for reading!
