《WE {TINCAN ff}》Strawberries & Cigarettes

'Damn, it's been an hour already!' Can roared as he, Tin, Yang Xi and Li Yu walked through the long, thin and brittle grass. Their idea of going to the strawberry farm was good, since the last time Can came, he reckoned it took far less time to reach there.

Tin was just behind him, following him. Yang Xi at the most front and Li Yu behind her. They looked like four small ducklings in the big yard. There was too much heat, and so was tan. None seemed to see that they were in their own problems or anything, they were just students having fun in their early twenties.

'Only twenty minutes since we left.' Li Yu snapped back, since it was only him who heard Can's complaint. There was a huge yard looking small, being visible to them within just a few meters. Yang Xi ran at her very full speed, so did Can as being the regular athletes of their respective schools.

It was only Tin and Li Yu left. What shall they speak when their personalities lie on the same angle? They weren't very different from one another, except for their ethnicities and their sizes.

With Tin wearing Li Yu's outfits, they were a bit tight on him to show of his muscles and huge physique. Li Yu was just a few centimeters shorter than Tin, but still a bit taller than Can. They were quiet and just a few meters far away from the farm.

'You seem an athlete to me, Tin?'

The smaller one smiled sweetly to his right. Tin finally seemed to acknowledge the talk Li Yu started.

'No, but I played some basketball years ago.' Tin tried to smile but horribly failed to show his sincerity.

'That's why you're tall, I assume.' Li Yu finally seemed to crack his smile, but this time he didn't turned his head to show it. 'I played it for a few months actually, it's genetics I guess.'

'People must like you, Li Yu.'

'Oh no, I annoy people.'

'Er..' That's the only thing Tin could reply, that's was unexpected as Li Yu never annoyed him. Did they even had a proper talk to annoy the latter?

It was just a matter of seconds since their not so boring conversation finished. They had already subconsciously entered the farm and they could see tiny figures of Can and Yang Xi with their faces half full with strawberries and a basket full with the fruit.

Tin and Li Yu weren't a big fan of strawberries. The last time Tin had a taste of it, his face made the most funniest expression ever of his life. But when Can was so excited to show him the farm, he couldn't resist his lover and come.

Li Yu on the on other hand was just here to collect two baskets of strawberries for jam The Grandmother wished to make.

'You like strawberries Tin? You can get some, they wouldn't bite.' Li Yu chuckled softly, directing his eyed to the two young-adult children running around not giving the damn whether The Uncle was yelling at them or not.

'I don't like strawberries, I like cantaloupe.'

'Understandable.' Li Yu excused himself to the corner leaving Tin alone there, Can had noticed him by then, and signaled him to come over. Tin couldn't understand him with his mouth filled with small red berries. But he still understood him anyway.

'What on earth do you think you're doing?!' The grandfather yelled on top of his voice, standing up with furiousness, his hand banging on the table.

Man sitting across the table didn't seemed to pay attention at all. The Grandmother too seemed to mind her own business as though this is the daily rant of her husband.

'Are you listening honey?! This person is going back to that horrible person. What on earth did you thought on changing sides huh? You think I'll let you go off that easy? You think just because I'm old I can't fight-'

He raised his cane above the table, attempting to hit Man's head but the latter sitting across was smarter and he was right. The cane was heavy and fell right on the table making a huge noise.

'Listen Can's Grandfather, I am not changing sides-' Man got up to fix the old man's clothes, '-I have no wish to, 'cause I ain't that type o' a person. You jus' can't hear me out, can you?'

The Grandfather snatched himself from the touch of the latter, 'What is there to hear you out? I have had enough-'

'Shut up!' The Grandmother finally seemed to acknowledge the scene, she was the one who had enough and just as she yelled across the room, reverberation occurred and it became scary quiet.

She stopped doing her dishes in anger, this wasn't the first time this has happened. When her husbands' friends used to come over to play and they had a fight, she was the one who handled the situation all the times. And sometimes she joined too. But this situation was different, and she knew her husband is stupid to even handle a cat.

The environment was very quiet at The Kirakorns' obviously because of The Grandmother's yelling. And at that point she thought whether her marriage with her husband was totally worth it, but she loved him. Instead of her husband who should've handled the house, it's her who does it.

Everyone's family in the village had the males' as the head. But here, it was totally opposite. Everyone there knew about it and they seemed to have no problem with it since the men's worst fear were their wives.

She didn't went out of the kitchen. She had had enough of handling situation all by herself. For once she wanted some peace while doing the dishes. As she had quickly finished her work, she dried her hands with the kitchen cloth kept just beside her on the counter.

She walked out of the kitchen and within a few inches she was in the living room, seeing her husband pouting while the spy was nowhere to be seen.

'What happened? You seem upset.' She teased as she sat on the chair she moved to sit beside him.

'What? He just told me he's going to Bangkok again to take more evidence.' He just moved his eyes but not his neck. His eyebrows were closely touching almost covering up his eyes. At this his wife wanted to laugh out loud, but she somewhat kept herself still.

'Oh c'mon you've been overprotective of our children, you didn't even cared this much about Prim. Now suddenly what's gotten into you, I have no idea. But I trust this person because if he breaks it he's gonna face me with my daughter.'

'Really? You trust him? He just called me an old man! You trust him with me being insulted?'

'What was the lie? Honestly, I wonder whether Tin knows about this?' The grandmother said.

'....'

'He's suffered a lot.'

'....'

'I really pity him'

'....'

'Can's honestly good from him, I'm glad Can found someone like him.'

'Yeah I'm happy for that too.'

'What else did he say?' The old woman's seemed to quite with every word she spoke. The latter sitting beside her nodded before beginning.

'He told me he has got evidence enough to keep Tul Medthanan quiet and let the boys go and have some peace. He's going to Bangkok to make his men ready. At first he's planning to let their father know what his first son has done. And if that goes well, probably Tul Medthanan would be sent away.

'If I ever meet Tin's father, I'm first going to ask him to play chess with me 'cause I bet he's bad at it. And secondly I'm going to lecture him for 2 days straight.'

'You know, I think he's got some type of a story too.'

'Story my foot he just can't ignore his child.'

'Whatever you think.' The Grandmother rolled her eyes in response and her husband's face soured.

The door a few meters behind him creaked. And as they turned, four tall figures appeared to be seen. It was obvious that it were their lovely grandchildren, including the new one which got in a few days back. All drenching in sweat and one by one they flopped themselves down on the floor. All panting. Some strawberries kept in their pockets throbbing to fall, while the youngest of them all was holding two huge baskets full of the fruit.

The grandmother wiped the tension off her face and so did her husband beside her. She stood up to get the strawberries from her precious children. She stood a few inches from them and Yang Xi handed her the baskets. The old woman took it and with a satisfactory smile, she thanked them and went back in the kitchen to prepare jam.

The three boys got up panting, sweat dripping from their faces till their necks. Their shirts drenched, they headed straight to the bathroom to change their clothes. Yang Xi on the other hand went back in her room.

When they all came back, The Grandfather signaled everyone to sit on the couch while he sat on the chair just opposite of their television.

Tin at the most corner, Can in the middle and Li Yu on the corner as well. Yang Xi well as sat on the carpet spread over on the floor.

'What happened?' Can budged. He thought a good sleep after a long adventure in the fruit farm was best. But his grandfather always had a way to get him into some type of work. Other than anyone else. Him and Can were very close due to the similarities in their personalities.

'Did you forgot that today was a football match between your two favorite teams? You've been forgetful lately.' The Grandfather eyed Can in disbelief. Though he already knew that the latter would always forget important things, including his favorites.

'Really? Hey you should've reminded me?' He smacked Li Yu on his left shoulder and his young pal hissed in pain.

'Hey! It's not a chemistry formula that I need to remind you. I've got better things to do.'

'Do you watch football, Tin?'

If Tin's neck was made of elastic, it would've spun all the way around till the side his body was facing. The old man's question wasn't the type to make him choose between life and death. Just a casual question but a single mistake and this person would think bad of him.

He did hesitate, and everyone in the room sensed that.

'Did I do something wrong?' The old man looked at Can as a back up. Can made a weird face and with oscillation kept watching both the men's faces. He didn't seemed for the question to be bad? After all it was him who was a football fanatic.

'Er.. No, I'm not a huge fan of football but I watch Can play it.'

'Took you long enough, son...' The Grandfather chuckled and so did everyone. As well as the person who answered. 'Ah, make yourself at home. You're a part of us anyway. You can sneak into kitchen at 3:00 AM and no one would interrogate, boy. So chill.'

The feeling of being welcomed into a lover's family was unannounced to Tin. Normally, in dramas which Tin had watched, it was usually when the lover's family is toxic, maybe this wasn't bad after all.

He felt relaxed, at ease and very warm. If his family is not informed about him gone, he would live here totally. An everyday trip to his university for studies would do him good.

They were all watching the following competitive match presented on the television. Tin and Li Yu had difficulty in understanding what the referee would direct. Can and Yang Xi helped them both. The Grandfather on the other hand settled on the arm chair had his eyes glued to the television. He seemed to not notice at all what was happening behind him.

During the end of the match, Can promised Tin to teach him the rules of football so when the latter would play, his lover wouldn't have difficulty to understand the match. And he would cheer for right then.

Yang Xi had given up long ago to help Li Yu teach the rules, so he cheered on both the sides not caring whether the other team was losing to the other and vice versa.

And a hundred miles away Man was sitting opposite of his right hand person, Boss.

'This is your evidence?'

'Enough to shut him up.' The taste of alcohol was bitter in Man's mouth, and yet he continued to take more of it. Living without alcohol was a torture and back in the village, he wasn't allowed to mention it.

Boss flipped through the tapes and photographs, the proofs that Tul Medthanan, planned the assassin of his young half-brother. He sighed every now and then. "So he has really chosen his sides." He thought as he checked the photographs thoroughly. The cigarette in his mouth was about to finish soon, and as he pulled it out, he gave out a huge smoke which landed on the photograph. Tul Medthanan with his case of few million baht.

'So? When do you plan to take out this task?'

'I'll start tomorrow. Anyway, Can's mother has been calling me lately about her son's and his boyfriend's whereabouts. So I'll meet her first and then straight to the Medthanans''

'Count me in. It's been days I haven't seen some action. I bet Tul Medthanan would burn.' Man chuckled at the thought.

'Yeah me too. I'll take my leave then. He must be waiting for his death. I'll quickly finish this drama and start a peaceful life,' Man spoke and stood up, fixed his hirt and glanced at the person on the chair. 'I'll let you know the time.'

'Ditto.'
