"let's end the deal."
you saw it coming. you knew he'd say it, but you still can't shake the ache your heart felt. you clenched your fist, giving the boy in front of you a small smile.
"yeah. let's end it."
atsumu could see the sadness in your eyes as you agreed to his words. his eye twitched, knowing he mislead you into the wrong idea.
"i meant–"
"[Y/N]-chan? we're going." oikawa came behind you, his once sweaty uniform replaced with a tracksuit. you gave him a nod before turning back to atsumu.
"...see ya."
"wait–" atsumu reached out to you, but oikawa had managed to grab your shoulder and turned you back away from him. the brown haired setter stuck his tongue out, making an irk mark appear on the blonde's forehead.
while oikawa was walking alongside you, you tried your best to act normal about it. you felt your eyes stinging, but you tried to keep it in especially since your uncle was around.
"did you just break up with him?" he suddenly asks, shocking you.
"...you heard?" you couldn't look at him, your eyes still fixated at the ground.
"so you did?"
you sighed, wondering how you were going to explain it to him. "well, how should i put this..." oikawa raised his brow, waiting for your reply.
"we... weren't actually together in the first place."
oikawa halted beside you, his eyes blinking twice. "...what?!"
"whaddya mean you didn't tell her?!"
"her uncle was there i can't just confess in front of him!"
"why d'ya have to phrase it as, "let's end it"?! you made things worse!"
"i... i know okay!" atsumu shouts at his twin while he was drying his hair with a towel. "i'll talk to her in private."
"and when is that, exactly?" osamu shuts his locker door, letting his back lean against the cold metal.
"i'll text her. right now." atsumu grabs the phone from his pocket, dialing your number.
Hey, are you free tomorrow?
message not delivered
the blonde freezes when he saw what was on his screen. osamu notices and took a peak, only to snicker a laugh at the sight. "did she just block you?"
atsumu wanted to throw his phone just so he couldn't look at his screen anymore. "...shit."
the next day, atsumu stood in front of your house and waits for you to come out. he stood at your front gate, checking the time on his phone and grew a bit anxious as time went by.
minutes later, the front door opens. atsumu straightens his position and smiled widely, only to see takeru coming out without you.
"ah, atsumu-kun!" the little boy greets, running up to him. "are you here for [Y/N]?"
"yeah, where is she?"
"she left for school extra early this morning saying she had stuff to do." the boy locks the gate behind him. "you didn't know?"
atsumu wanted to slap himself. she's ignoring me, he thought.
"right... i'll drop you off to school then." he walked alongside takeru. "did she say anythin' 'bout me...?"

"not really." he shrugs. "but she was fighting with tooru yesterday before he left. saying something like, 'he was an a-hole after all!'" he mimicks oikawa's voice.
atsumu already knew oikawa was talking about him. "guess he ain't wrong..." he mumbled, hoping the smaller boy won't hear him.
meanwhile, you were already at school to drop off the photos you forgot to give honoka days ago. it was the photos you took with atsumu at the gym and whether you liked it or not, you had no choice but to submit them.
you knocked outeide the clubroom's door, a small voice inside asking you to come in. the club president was already there hanging some photos up on the board, each one with a different theme.
"morning [Y/N]-chan!" the black haired girl greets, facing you.
"ah, morning honoka-senpai. here are the photos i took, hopefully they look good." you gave her the small sd card. "sorry for the delay by the way..."
"it's fine!" she took it from your hand and gave you a pat on the shoulder. "so, who's your model?"
you look away before replying, "atsumu..."
"you guys are still together?" honoka grins, her eyes glinting in excitement.
"ye–" you paused, only now remembering that the deal had ended. "no..."
"aww, what? that's too bad." she pouts. "you guys looked really good together."
"thanks, i guess." you awkwardly scratched the back of your head. "did you want anything else, senpai?"
"nope! thanks for dropping by this early [Y/N]-chan!"
"it's no problem." you smiled. "i should get going then." you left the room, sighing at how cheerful honoka was this early in the morning.
atsumu arrived to school a bit late. the bell had rung when he was at the gate so he had no choice but to run to his classroom, unable to talk to you. at lunch however, he thought it was his opportunity to strike.
"[Y/N]-chan, you're eating with us?" yuki, who was sitting next to suna asked. they were having lunch inside the cafeteria.
"y-yeah, is that alright?"
"of course!"
atsumu peeks at a corner, gripping the wall tightly when he saw the sight. "she's eating with suna?" he thought.
osamu saw his twin weirdly glaring at them in the corner and ignored him, wishing he never knew the male. "i don't know him. i don't know him. i don't know him."
from the corner of his eye, suna saw the blonde throwing daggers at him. he smirked, coming up with a plan. "hey [Y/N], you can sit beside me if you want."
"sure!" you scooted between the twins, setting down your bento on the table. atsumu felt jealousy wash over him and knew that suna was doing it on purpose.
the black haired teen hated that atsumu didn't do anything to confess at all, so he decided he had to add fuel to the fire once more. "can i have some of that?" suna asked you.
he pointed at the food you prepared earlier this morning. you nod, grabbing your chopsticks and bringing food up to his mouth. "here."

he ate it, munching down the lunch in his mouth. "that's... really good." he compliments.
"[Y/N] should be the one feeding me, not you!" atsumu grits his teeth.
"really? thanks!" you took some food for your self to have a taste. "maybe i'll cook something for you next time rintaro."
"that'd be great." suna smiles at you, then shifted his gaze towards atsumu only to give him a smug smile.
"indirect kiss." he mouthed, and atsumu instantly caught on to it.
"why you–" the blonde was about to make his way towards your table, but someone had managed to pull the collar of his uniform before he did.
"oi, don't make a ruckus!" osamu scolded. seeing his twin suffer from afar made him cringe so he had no choice but to help him out. "suna's just tryna get ya ta make a move."
"well it's workin' and i'm pissed!" he crossed his arms on his chest.
"stop acting like a damn brat and get yer act together!" he hits the back of his twin's head, earning a groan from him. osamu sighed, his head aching from atsumu's stupidity. "fine. i'll help you."
"how's this supposed to help?!"
"trust me this always works."
"and how would you know?!"
"i've seen it in dramas now shut up!"
the twins were now at a flower shop looking for something to get you. since this was atsumu's first time confessing to a girl, he doesn't know how to do it. osamu however, had at least been in a serious relationship before so he knew a little bit about it. he wouldn't admit it but he actually got ideas based on some tv shows he was watching.
"okay, i think that's good." osamu points to a bouquet of white roses. "buy it."
"me?!"
"yeah no shit yer the one confessin' not me!"
and so the two of them exited the shop with a bouquet of roses on atsumu's hand. "i think we're set." osamu said. "let's head back ta school."
"right..." atsumu trailed behind his twin, trudging as he did so.
both of them arrived at the school gates, the eyes of the students are on atsumu's since he held this eye catching bouquet on his hand.
"who do you think he's giving it to?"
"who else? [L/N] of course."
"what? i thought they broke up."
"isn't he and heather dating?"
"for real?"
the whispers were getting to atsumu's nerves. never did he want anything to do with heather anymore yet here goes the rumors again.
"well, you ready?" osamu asked.
"y-yeah..."
the grey haired boy opens the door to the hallway, all the people there averting their eyes on them. "let's head to the cafeteria they should still be ther–"
"babe? what's going on?" amidst the crowd, heather spoke up and slowly walked towards the front. "is that... for me?"
atsumu already wanted to get out of here. he felt the stares of so many students on them, and he wasn't going to be surprised if another rumor popped up. "what? no–"
"aww thank you darling you're so sweet!" heather runs up towards the blonde, hugging him tightly around his neck. "you shouldn't have!" she grabs the roses from him, grinning widely.
"oi, what do you think yer–"
"oh no." osamu spoke, cutting atsumu off.
"what?" he looks at the direction his twin was looking at, only to find you at the very back of the crowd watching the scene.
"[Y/N]."
you immediately turned your head around when you saw that atsumu had caught you staring. you walked away, hoping to not get any attention to yourself.
"wait, [Y/N]!" atsumu started to run towards you, but the crowd that formed slowed him down.
"baby, where are you going?" heather grabs atsumu's wrist, giving him a pleading stare. atsumu however, glares at the redhead making her let go of her grip.
"get away from me, ya squealin' pig." he brushed her hand away, leaving heather in a complete state of shock.
you tried to walk as fast as you could away from the scene you just witnessed. you didn't want to believe that atsumu actually had a thing for heather given the amount of times he said he hated her but it was right there in front of you. him giving her flowers in front of a crowd.
"stupid of me to believe you." you muttered.
"[Y/N]! [Y/N] wait!" you heard atsumu calling you from behind which only made you run faster.
"get away from me atsumu." you walked out of the school building, not expecting to meet several groups of people outside.
"just listen to me!" his voice was getting closer and closer, but you didn't turn back.
"[Y/N]!" atsumu stops running and took a deep breath. he knew you weren't gonna stop anytime soon so he had to come up with something.
"I LOVE YOU!" he shouted at the top of his lungs, startling the students around him. you halted, your eyes widening at his statement. "PLEASE GO OUT WITH ME!"
"o-oi–" your face flushed from embarrassment. you turned to face him, his ears red like your cheeks. you saw people peering out from the window, and the students who were walking by had stopped to listen.
"[Y/N] [L/N] PLEASE BE MY GIRLFRIEND!"
"i heard you the first time–"
"[Y/N] [L/N] GO OUT WITH ME!"
"atsumu–"
"[Y/N] [L/N] PLEASE–"
"SHUT UP I HEARD YOU!" you shout, making him stop. you walked towards atsumu, grabbing his hand and taking him to a more private spot since so many people were watching.
"why would you do that?!" you let go of his wrist after you took him to the back of the school. "did you really have to shout it out like that?"
"but did it yesterday to me didn'tcha?" he pouts. "i just... you didn't wanna listen to me so i had ta do somethin'."
"why?"
"what?"
"didn't you reject me? why ask me to go out with you now?" you frowned. "if you're just doing this to continue our deal then i'm ou–"
"[Y/N]." he cuts you off. "let's date for real this time."

Humanity endures. The phrase is not only an informal slogan of the reformed United Nations, but a rallying cry the world over. Even in the face of extermination, we struggled, we fought, and we endured. But just how close did we actually come? In our darkest hour, how many steps separated our species from oblivion?
