《Unnatural Disaster || JJK ✔️》Chapter 26: Make It Right [Edited]

"That day Y/N lost both her parents. We rushed omma to the nursing home but we couldn't save her. The stress of losing her husband was too much for her and she couldn't bare it. Even though the family was highly trained to be physically strong and agile, their hearts were too weak to handle it all.
Y/N got more reserved. She didn't return to school, she just stayed locked up in her room, barely ate any food and just kept quite, no crying, no wailing, no sound what so ever. Both SeokJin and I tried our best to lighten up her mood but nothing worked. It was like she was already dead inside.
But then one day, at the middle of the night I woke up to faint gunshots coming from our training hall. I ran to the room and I was shocked to find Y/N standing across the shooting panel with a riffle in her hands as she pointed the gun to the training dummies.
I called out to her with a faltering voice, I never wanted Y/N to have to do something she hated but when she turned around to my call, every bit of hope shattered inside of me as I laid my eyes on hers. Chills ran down my spine when I glanced into her blood shot orbs which held no emotions other than the burning fire of revenge.
And that was when I knew that along with my parents, I had lost my little sister too..."
I couldn't refrain the tears from gushing out of my eyes. Did I even try? Maybe not.
Both Yoongi and I were seated on the fur rug laid out in Y/N's balcony. We were here because Yoongi insisted on carrying her sleeping form to her own bed so that Y/N wouldn't be uncomfortable when she woke up.

For one of the richest individuals in Korea, Y/N's room was rather simple. Apart from the usual closet and bathroom there was a queen sized bed with soft fluffy sheets, a few wooden furniture of black and gray and a well maintained balcony. The space was huge but it wasn't quite elegantly decorated. The walls were smeared with dull shades and the only ornamentation was a photo of an old couple hanging on the wall behind the bed. But mainly the room lacked emotions.
I never realized how much these people were keeping hidden inside of them. I just judged them based on other's opinions and never once bothered to consider their sides. I was wrong. I thought they hurt people only to have some sick pleasure out of it but that was clearly not the case, not for this family at least.
"I am sorry hyung. I said all those mean things to you..."
"Why are you sorry? You didn't do anything wrong! You didn't know"
"But I should've tried to" I cut Yoongi off and the latter looked at me with swollen eyes filled with anticipation.
"Jungkook, I know I shouldn't talk to you about this but being a big brother I can't stop myself either" he started and I looked up at him with eyebrows huddled together.
"What is it hyung?" I asked, my curiosity shining through. I knew I was the one assigned to catch these guys and take them under custody but if I get the chance to do something better, why not go for it?
Maybe there were some ways I could actually help this family instead of just shoving them into a smothering jail cell. Maybe I could change things for them rather than just making there lives more miserable. As a cop I'm supposed to penalize the felons for their deeds but my dad taught me well to identify the true culprits before taking any action and in this case I refuse to believe that these are the ones that need punishment.

At least after the story Yoongi had told me, I definitely knew there was someone else who needed the jail more and as a cop if I could take them there, I knew my dad would be proud.
"It's about Y/N" my ears perked up at the mention of her name. She was the one I wanted to help the most. Y/N was just like any other 20 year old with dreams and aspirations and it was high time she got treated like one too. The choices made by her deceased parents shouldn't affect her life. And she was definitely not the one who needed disciplining, the girl already despised this sneaky business.
"This may sound weird to you but ever since you came into this house, Y/N has started changing..." Yoongi paused leaving me with anxious perplexity.
"What do you mean?"
"I noticed how she stays distracted these days. I know all she does is fight with you but whatever it is, it diverts her attention from the pain she has in store. Sometimes I feel like she even enjoys fighting with you. Y/N has never had a friend in her entire life, you are the first one out of the mafia that keeps her company and I think she likes to have you around. No offense but I think that's the reason she hasn't let anybody kill you yet, even though her cousin SeokJin practically forced her to kill you and dispose you off in some far away dump"
I was offended, I certainly was but I couldn't deny being something else as well. I didn't know what though. May be a bit relieved to know that Y/N wanted me alive not to exploit me but because she found a friend in me. Well if that's the case, I ought to be there for her, as her friend. I can make it right, can't I?
"But hyung, what about the perpetrator, did you find who it was?"
Yoongi heaved a defeated sigh, dragging his fingers through his messy bangs in the process.
"No we haven't. The bastard left no clues" a glint of roughness started showing through his voice as he visibly tensed under the gravity of the moment. "We haven't found him yet but we are not going to stop before we do. He needs to pay for what he had done and even though I'm not as enraged as Y/N, I still want my revenge"
The fire in his dark orbs were prominent. Vengeance is never a better option but sometimes it can be the only option.
"Don't worry hyung. If you let me, I can help you find him and take him down for good" following my words a small smirk appeared on Yoongi's lips and I only acquainted him with one of mine. I came here for a prisoner and that's exactly what I was gonna take.
(Sorry, but I had to.... :| )

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/
