《Indelible Affairs》⚜️Chapter 41⚜️

"Nice place." I praised, entering the house.

It's hard picturing Enos owning this. He strikes me as a hardcore renegade by a single glance. Dark and conservative. Guess the rumors are true, he's the exact opposite of what I imagined him to be. This house proves that. It's beyond Artsy.

I could be wrong though. I still DON'T trust him.

"Thank you." He grinned stepping inside.

Then again, Enos never offered his trust.

"Now his head grows larger." April muttered, landing a mediocre punch on Enos's shoulder. "Seriously Betty, you're boosting his already massive ego by complimenting this dumpster. That ego is currently too much for this world." She warned me.

"Shut up." Enos chuckled, lightly pushing April against the wooden door, moving past her.

"I almost dropped our dinner." She whined, gripping the pizza boxes firmly.

"Unlikely." Enos pulled me towards the couch while holding my hand.

"It's actually decent." I sat on the comfy sofa, placing my jacket by the side table.

He bumped my shoulder then stood up.

"What did you expect?" Enos walked to the kitchen leaving April and I by the living room.

Not this.

April snorted beside me. "Obviously crap. I mean its practically still shit anyways." She blunted out while laying the food boxes on the table. "Betty just has horrible taste in decor."

I wouldn't say that.

"You're just bummed I never let you crash here whenever you like." He told her, returning with some beers.

April waved her hand. "Always bragging."

"That's too many beer bottles." I pointed out, reaching for three.

"You're forgetting his Ego tagged along Betty. Its usually thirstier than everyone else." April scoffed.

Enos ignored her, positioning himself to sit between us. "She talks alot." He commented while shaking his head.

Apparently, Enos lives across the street, very close to Bill's house.

He overheard the conversation between I and Veronica concerning the little issue at Meghan's place, how extremely dirty it is.

Enos offered to clear the pipes and lend a hand fixing the house up. Claimed he wasn't busy tomorrow and that I'd probably need some help moving in.

Then, April wanted dinner and insisted I join her and Enos at his place for pizza.

I didn't want to be rude. They've been really welcoming and kind despite making me work for two hours straight in that kitchen. So I agreed.

Besides, I've never felt this comfortable around strangers my whole life. It's like I'd known them for forever. It's weird but the good kind.

"Sure, I talk too much. But I speak the truth." April leaned on the sofa. A slice of pizza on her hand and beer on the other.

It's not true that Enos's place is crap. Honestly, the place is cosey and extremely warm.

"Okay, Keep going." He replied then proceeded to grab a slice, handing it to me. "Eat up"

I smiled. "Thanks."

April groaned loudly. "You need to stop saying that all the damn time."

"What?" I adjusted to face her.

"Thank you....Stop with that." She rephrased. "Veronica insisted you're practically family and all that shit. So it's no bother to us helping you move into Meghan's broken old house."

April can be brutally specific. She seemed sweet at first.

"Cut it out." Enos eyed her.

She stared at him. "Cut what out? Did I say something wrong?"

Enos huffed glancing at me. "Excuse her. She tends to be offensive after working for long hours in that trailer."

I shrugged as April kept talking.

"We'll go there early in the morning to start tidying up. I can't stand being around my little brothers. Children are sinister when nobody's watching. So conniving." April chipped intuitively. "I would rather be around you honestly. You aren't bad right?" She asked me.

I can't tell if April's being serious right now or just messing around.

"Depends." I said. "Everyone has a bad side."

She swallowed her beer. "Very true."

"Are you easily provoked?" Enos wrapped his tattooed arm around my shoulder. He isn't wearing a jacket so the ink is in full display.

He's the touchy type. Veronica would practically scold him for always ruffling her hair. Enos can't keep his hands to himself.

As long as we aren't alone. I don't mind.

"It takes a while." I confessed. "But You and I both know I'm harmless, whether provoked or not."

Enos had occasionally witnessed people ganging up on me in corners, bleachers, locker rooms, basically anywhere hidden. Enos once landed an ugly beating himself trying to save me from these Jocks, they out numbered him. I left him there, running for my own safely.

He saved me, and I abandoned him.

I feel bad about that now.

"How would he know if you're harmless or not?" April asked curiously.

I searched my head for anything sensible and less embarrassing to reply April with. I'm not proud of what I've been through. I feel weak because of it.

"Betty was a friend, remember." Enos pitched in, sparing me the mockery.

No, I personally don't recall.

I would literally run away from you whenever you'd try to get an inch closer to me.

"Yeah. You mentioned that earlier." April nodded. "How close were the two of you?"

Not at all.

"Never implied we were close friends." Enos bent his head backward, spreading his legs in attempts to get comfortable. " I knew her, she knew me. We talked once in a while and thats about it."

We never talked.

"Right." I grabbed another slice.

"Move your legs." April kicked his foot. "We're also trying to relax here."

Enos groaned, spreading them wider. I shifted closer to the edge.

"Go sit somewhere else then." He said lazily.

She eyed him.

Enos unwrapped his cold arm from my shoulder to lift April up.

He sat her on his lap. "Better?"

"Yes."

We talked, ate and drank for a while longer. April did most of the talking though. I just listened and laughed whenever either of them said anything remotely funny.

But time was moving fast, I glanced at the wall clock and realised it was time for me to leave.

I downed the beer and placed it on the table.

"I should go." I said, standing.

"Where?" April looked up at me. "Did we bore you?"

Barely.

"You can crush here if you want." Enos sat up straight. April was still on his lap.

They seem really close.

"What?" April and I both said instantly.

"You weren't planning on sleeping in that house right?" He questioned. "It's filthy."

If Meghan heard any of what these people were saying about her precious home, she'd literally get pissed off and sad.

"No offense." He implied.

It was hard not taking offense.

"It's fine." I grabbed my jacket. "I want to check with Veronica and Bill. Perhaps they got an extra room in that trailer or any other suggestions."

"Trust me, you don't want to sleep there." April snorted. "It usually smells like garbage after the parties. And weed too."

That's disturbing.

"Come with me instead." April raised. "My bed is big enough for both of us."

Enos intruded. "You're parents aren't the kindest people."

April frowned. "I'll sneak her inside. Problem solved."

Not happening. April is a complete stranger and am not sleeping where I ain't welcomed.

"I'll figure something out on my own." I said.

Refusing her invite.

"Or you could just stay here for the night. There's a guest room so nothing to worry about." Enos offered. "Plus, it's close to Meghan's place. You can leave first thing in the morning."

He's seriously insane if he thinks am sleeping here.

"I won't hurt you." He quickly defended. He must have sensed my discomfort.

"Why would Elisabeth think you'd hurt her?" April inquired folding her arms. "You guys were friends."

Enos frowned, leaning back on the coach.

Maybe I'm being a bit unfair. Enos had protected me in numerous occasions.

"Did something happen between you two?" She asked.

"No." I replied blantly.

Enos remained silent as he chugged the beer.

I sat down again.

"Thank you for letting me crush here." I faced him.

"You seriously need to quit saying that." April reminded. "It's beginning to annoy me."

Enos was oddly quiet. Like his batteries went out or something.

It's not his fault I don't trust the people in this town. Orlando carries horrible memories for me and shutting people out remains to be my first instinct.
