《PROHIBITED! (Young Snape X Reader)》Chapter 13: Amortentia

**************************************
It was now the end of the week. You had been released from the hospital wing. Your arm was healing fine, you were taking your potions on a daily basis like you were supposed to, things were looking up. Severus was trusting you more and more everyday. You were both making progress and you were both so proud of each other.
Remus and you had been hanging out a little less since he decided to spend time with your brother and his friends a little bit at a time. You wouldn’t go near them. You spent most of your time with Severus and his friends. It was Friday and you would be brewing Amortentia today. You were a little worried since you missed so much class the last few days but Severus assured you that he knew exactly what he was doing.
You got to the glass and immediately started brewing the potion. You followed Severus’ lead, he would tell you what to do and you would do it. He wanted you to feel included since he knew you felt guilty after having missed so much information on this potion due to having to be in the hospital wing with your concussion.
“Now be sure to be careful, remember this is an assignment so I want no talking outside of your partner.” Professor Slughorn instructed after a few students started to get a little rowdy. “You have 1 hour left to finish up.”
“I think we're doing pretty well.” You commented as you looked down at the potion. “You haven’t blown us up yet so that’s always a good sign.”
“I was waiting for that.” He smirked. “Now put in the Rose thorns.” He motioned towards the potion.
“Yes sir.” You rolled your eyes and he rolled his.
“We should be done here in a few minutes. We only have a few more ingredients left to add.”
“That’s good.” You continued to throw in ingredients as Severus told you what to do. After the last of the ingredients were in you stirred it for 5 minutes. “I think it’s ready!” You exclaimed, excited to smell it.
“I think you’re right. It looks about right.” He nodded and smiled.
“I wanna smell, can we smell it before we tell Professor Slughorn we’re done?” You asked almost jumping up and down.
“I suppose.” He smirked at your excitement.
“Okay, okay.” You said, pushing your hair back behind your ears so you didn’t get it in the potion. You closed your eyes and inhaled deeply.

“Well?” Severus asked impatiently, wanting more than anything to hear you describe his scent.
“Mmm, it smelled like old books, herbs and fire whiskey.” It was Severus. You knew it was Severus. He drank coffee every morning at breakfast, he adored older books and had a whole collection of them and he regularly had a glass of fire whiskey with Lucius in their common room. “Smells like someone I know.” You smiled.
“Well I wonder who it could be.” He teased.
“Smell yours.” You insisted.
“I don’t think I want to.” He stuck his nose up at you.
“I will tickle you.” You threatened.
“Okay, okay.” He held his hands up defensively. Leaning over he took a deep inhale. It smelled like banana muffins, vanilla lotion and the same perfume you wear. “It smells like you.” He said bluntly. “Banana muffins, vanilla and your perfume.” He added.
“Mine smells like you.” You smiled. You two were sharing a moment, staring into each other's eyes and of course.
“Ah! I see you two have finished. It looks perfect. Take it and place it on the table in the back. I'll be checking them later.” Professor Slughorn announced. “Once you do that you are both free to go.”
You and Severus nodded then did as he asked and took your cauldron and placed it on the back table. Then you both packed up your things and left to spend the rest of the period in the library. As you walked past James and Sirius you saw them looking at Severus with a look of disgust. You had no idea what their problem was but you weren’t going to ask to find out. You both left and made your way to the library.
“Did you hear them?” Sirius whisper yelled. “They smelled each other in their Amortentia. They’re supposed to be done! What are we gonna do now!”
“Relax Pads, what you smell in your Amortentia isn’t who you’re in love with, it smells like what attracts you. We know she was attracted to Snape but it doesn't mean she loves him. We still have time, they’re not together again.” James tried to comfort his friend.
“We need to think of something James. They’re getting close again. It's only a matter of time before they get back together and then what? We need to get back to work and find a way to keep her away from him.” Sirius insisted.

“I know, I know, but she won’t even talk to us.”
“We need to confront her in the hall before dinner.”
“Agreed.”

“Do you think you’re ready for McGonagall’s make-up exam tomorrow?” Severus asked.
“Yeah, I was studying while I was in the hospital wing so I think I’ll be okay.” You confessed.
“Do you want me to quiz you? We have about an hour until we have to start heading down to the great hall to meet Cissa and the others.”
“That would be great.”
Severus Accioed himself some note cards and asked you questions. You were doing well. The ones you didn’t answer right he put in a different pile and he would come back to those later. After you finished the stack of cards he grabbed the stack of cards that you had gotten wrong and did the same thing. If you got them wrong again they went into a separate pile, if you got them right this time they went into the pile of cards that you got right the first time. This continued until you got all the answers correct. By the time you were done it was almost time for you to head down to the great hall.
“Severus.” You broke the silence as he was putting the cards away.
“Yes Y/N?”
“I’m proud of how well you’re doing. You’ve been so open and trusting lately and I’m proud of how far you’ve come. It makes me happy to see you like this.” You caressed his cheek.
“I’m glad it makes you happy. I started doing this for you but I’ve realized that it makes me happier so now I’m doing it for both of us… You have been doing good too. I know you don’t like taking potions, I know you don’t like the taste or the texture. I know you have to force yourself to take it everyday but you’re doing it and I’m very, very proud of you.”
“That means a lot.” He smiled back at you then offered you his arm to take which you did without hesitation. He walked you both down to the great hall where you saw a lot of students making their way into the great hall. You were both almost through the threshold when someone grabbed your shoulder and turned you to face them. You let out a little gasp and scowled when you saw James and Sirius standing in front of you.
“We need to talk.” James insisted.
“I don’t want to talk to you so leave me be.” You went to walk past but James blocked your way.
“It’s important.” James added.
“She said she doesn’t want to talk to you, I suggest you walk away.” Severus growled, stepping in between you and James.
“No one asked you.” Sirius spat.
“If it involves you harassing Y/N then it does involve me. Back up.” He spat right back.
“We know your Amortentia smells like Snape. You and him are supposed to be done. You broke up, we heard you say you broke up. You don’t have to tell him your Amortentia smells like him just to spare his feelings. Who did it really smell like?” Sirius ignored Snape and refocused on you.
“We’re on a break and even if we were broken up it’s none of your business. I want nothing to do with you, not until you change and you have made it clear that you are both unable to do that so leave me alone.” Sirius tried to move closer to you despite Severus’ scowl. He got closer and closer until someone else stepped in front of Severus.
“Back off Black.” Lucius held his wand up.
“This doesn’t concern you Malfoy.”
“Do as he says brother. I won’t stop him from hexing you. Y/N made it clear she doesn’t want to speak to you.” Regulus chimed in.
“Relying on Slytherins to protect you now.” James scoffed. “I thought you were better than that.”
“I could hex you just as effectively myself but you're not worth the detention I would get so leave me alone before I let one of them do it.”
“Let’s get inside, dinner’s going to start.” Narcissa said, trying to defuse the situation.
“Agreed.” Said Lucius. He shoulder checked James as he walked past with you and Severus right behind him. Regulus walked on your right and glared at his brother the whole way past silently warning him to back off.
“Now what?” Sirius sighed.
“Don’t worry I have a couple plans up my sleeve, we just need Lily.”

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
