《lightning - jonah marais》chapter two

"Jonah." you mumbled sleepily as the alarm blared from Jonah's phone. "Jo, turn it off." you whined, turning over to see him fast asleep, the alarm not bothering him one bit. You scoffed and reached over him, silencing his phone. It was 3 in the morning, and the flight to St. Louis was a little under 4 hours. Jon said you and the boys had to be at the airport by 5 at the latest so they'd be on time for everything they had planned that day: radio show, acoustic performance, meet & greet, Limelight and then the show. You shook Jonah's arm and squinted at his face through the darkness of the room. You shook him again, a little harder, and he scrunched his nose. "I'm up, I'm up." he groaned and rubbed his eyes. You chuckled lightly and threw the comforter off of your body. "Yeah, now you are. Get up and get in the shower, I'll make some coffee." you said. "Mmmm, you're the best." he smiled lazily, stretching his limbs across the bed. "I know, now get your ass up Marais!" you scolded playfully and headed down to the kitchen to get a pot of coffee started. One by one the boys began filing down the stairs with their luggage, plopping down on the couches and doing their best to stay awake. "Shower's free!" Jonah yelled from upstairs and you set your mug down, heading up to get ready for the flight. Once all of you were ready, you all hopped in the sprinter van and headed to the airport. "You know there's gonna be a ton of fans waiting for us here and once we land in St. Louis, right?" Daniel said, leaning his head on your shoulder to watch you scroll through Twitter. "Yes I do. It honestly makes me a little nervous but I have 5 boys to protect me from getting lost in the sea of fans." you pointed out. "We are men, not boys." Corbyn said from the seat in front of you and everyone laughed. You sighed and shook your head with a smile on your face, "Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say!" "Who are you sitting with on the flight?" Zach asked and you shrugged. In your head you figured you'd sit with Jonah, but then you remembered that Madison was meeting you guys at the airport and taking the same flight. "I'm not sure." "You can sit with me. Your shoulder makes a great pillow." Daniel said quietly, his eyes closed and his head cuddled in between your jaw and your shoulder. You leaned your head against his and patted his cheek, "Thanks, Dani."

After about 20 minutes of greeting fans and taking pictures, you finally made it through to the gate. You spotted Madison and averted your eyes back to your phone. She ran up behind Jonah and covered his eyes, "Guess who?" she said cheerily. "Hmm, I wonder. Corbyn?" Jonah said and she moved her hands, kissing his cheek. "How'd you sleep, baby?" he asked, tucking her under his arm. "Pretty good, I'm definitely gonna need a nap on this flight though." You couldn't help but look at the two of them together, giggling and smiling like they weren't fighting just days before. Your chest burned with jealousy and hurt, wishing that it were you instead of her. "Hey, Y/N." Madison said, pulling you from your daydreaming. "Oh, hey Madison. How are you?" you asked, trying your best to sound genuinely happy to see her. She hugged you and you loosely hugged back. "I'm good! How many shows are you staying for?" she inquired and you scratched the back of your neck. "Um, all of them. You?" Madison's face dropped and she turned to Jonah, "She's with you for the whole tour?" asking him with anger laced in her voice. Jonah stood up nervously and nodded. "Yeah, uh, she's doing some work with Zack for photography and it counts for credit at her school. She's with us for all three legs of the tour. I told you that." Madison crossed her arms and looked between you and Jonah. "No, Jonah, you didn't. I only get to come along until you're in Florida." she snapped. Your face turned white and you looked to Jonah. The poor boy looked panicked, like he wasn't sure what to say without making her even angrier. Before any of you could say anymore, Corbyn came over. "We're boarding guys, let's go!" Everyone filed into their seats and you settled into your seat next to Daniel, watching Madison and Jonah walk past to their seats. You could see her from your seat, they were up a few rows and across the aisle. You leaned your head back against the headrest and sighed, closing your eyes. Daniel nudged you, offering an earbud. You gladyly accepted it and listened to Daniel's music as the flight took off. "You doing okay?" Daniel asked and you scoffed lightly, a sad smile on your face. "I guess." "What's wrong, Y/N?" he asked. You leaned your head on his shoulder, trying to relax. "I'm pretty sure Madison and Jonah are going to be fighting this whole flight, if not the whole time she's here, because of me." you said quietly. Daniel swung his arm around you and rubbed your arm. He let his head rest against yours. "Why, what happened?" "She found out that I'm gonna be here for the whole tour, which Jonah claims to have told her. Now she's pissed because she's only here for like 3 shows and the look on Jo's face," you sighed, "he looked so upset. I feel horrible." Daniel groaned before responding, "It's not your fault. Between you and me, she's not right for him. She's always putting him down and making him adjust to her constant wants. If they fight all week, that's on her not you. I promise." Daniel reassured you. The two of you spent the rest of the flight showing each other funny tweets and talking about the upcoming shows. You loved talking to Daniel, he was like a brother to you and he never judged you. You noticed Jonah stand up and walk back to the bathroom, making eye contact with you as he passed your seat. Without thinking, you reached out and grabbed his hand. He looked down to you and raised an eyebrow, "What's up?" You froze, stuttering a bit before spitting out an 'Are you okay?' to which he smiled softly and nodded. "We'll be fine, don't worry." he said, and you let his hand go.

The plane touched down and everyone was let out into the crowded airport. The boys were approached almost immediately, at least a hundred fans asking for pictures and saying hello. Despite their exhaustion, the boys did what they usually did; they took as many photos as they could and had conversations with them. You admired that so much, their endless love and adoration for the people who supported them. Once you made your way into the van, Daniel caught up with you and nudged your shoulder. "I saw that." he whispered, a smirk on his face. Your eyes widened and you laughed, "Saw what, exactly?" Daniel looked to Jonah up in the passenger seat, "The way you grabbed his hand, the way you look at him. Y/N's lovesick." he teased, dragging out the 'i' in sick. You smacked his knee, trying to shut him up. "I am not! He's my best friend, of course I love him but not like that. Besides. He's got Madison so it wouldn't even be a possibility if I wanted to." you defended. "Okay, okay! I'm just messin' around." he smiled and you shook your head at his childish smile, letting a smile creep up onto your face as well.
'Well, shit.' you thought to yourself, 'This is gonna be harder than I thought.'

Time Can't Heal This
I've always hated the saying "Time heals all wounds." Maybe in most cases that may be true. In my experience with life and pain however, time has only ever bled out the wound. The scars that the wounds left behind though, are often so deep that just looking at them becomes painful to the mind. Time only heals what you let go of. Sometimes letting go and moving on just doesn't feel possible; no matter how much time you let pass you by.These poems signify what time hasn't healed for me.
