《Agere Academy》running away pt. 3

GEORGIA'S POV
The bus arrived, and I got on. I found that the fare took the rest of my money. I paid it, sighing. But I was unsure. I shook off my thoughts and sat down in an empty seat, staring out of the window dismally. The bus took off startlingly. After what seemed like an hour later, the bus stopped. I got off at my stop, and found my small estate house. At least I had a rented house. I entered, and suddenly, I was whisked back into my old life, the familiar mahogany sofa and the old ratty rug on the floor. The messy kitchen, filled with old cookies I had baked before leaving.
I was home.
I felt empty inside. Now I had to go back to boring old work and worrying about finances. One thing way though, I had my laptop. I researched the Agere Academy online. There was no trace of it. I panicked, thinking it was all a dream. I searched up the location of the school. Nothing. Was it a dream? Surely not. I had scars from clombimg the fence. I was hungry. No, it was real, as I was hungry from Alana not feeding me. I went over to the cookies and munched on them, deep in thought. What was going on at the Academy?
The headmistress had sent out police to search for Georgia and her possible kidnapper. I was in a panic, a deep one. Georgia could be dead, or severely injured. She could be in a basement somewhere, with her kidnapper. Or..Rose's daddy, Matthew. my mind was clouded and I couldn't think straight, so I grabbed my coat and rushed up the stairs to Matthew's apartment. I banged on the door angrily. If he had Rose, there'd be blood. Matthew answered. He was in his uniform, but Rose wasn't here. "Where's Georgia?" I yelled

Matthew looked taken aback and stumbled backwards. "What?"
"Georgia isn't with me. I know you took her! Where is she?" I pushed past Matthew and into their apartment. I barged into Rose's bedroom. She was playing with her dolls, a silver glittered pacifier in her mouth. Spoiled brat. "Rose, where's Georgia?" Rose looked super confused. "What?"
What was with them two and saying what?! So irritating. Matthew caught hold of my shoulders. "Sam, calm down. We're not hiding Georgia here." He tried to soothe me, but my brain was mush, and only set on finding Georgia.
"Look, ill let you search this whole apartment if it makes you feel better?" I nodded and began my search. Georgia wasn't in Rose's bedroom or bathroom. I searched their clean modern kitchen. She wasn't any where. No, no. I must be right. I grabbed hold of Matthew. "Do you have any secret rooms or basements or-"
Matthew calmly cut me off. "No, Sam. This is an apartment building, and I can't have a basement. Your apartment is the one below mine. I don't have any secret rooms, I promise."
"Where's Georgia then?" I couldn't believe it. She must be out of the Academy's grounds. "She's not with us. How about you have a rest, Sam?" Matthew was almost pleading. I took note of his words and lay down on his couch, closing my eyes. I hoped wherever Georgia was, she was safe.
Our whole team was sent to find a girl. Her caregiver suspects she was kidnapped, but when we entered his apartment, I thought otherwise. There were no signs of struggle, and the caregiver said that the window was wide open. That seemed suspicious. How could a large adult kidnapper get out of a medium sized window holding another adolescent. It didn't seem possible. I told that to the leader of the school. She checked her records and found the address of the girl. "There, 56 Cherry Lane, Smallwood." It was across town. She'd have to catch a bus to get there. We'd get there, though. If she wasn't there, we had no leads.

I relaxed in a nice, warm bubble bath. It was nice to be on my own. I got out, dried myself and put on some clothes. I was interrupted by a loud knock on the door. A friend? I opened the door to find an unfamiliar tall blond man, dressed in a suit. "Come in?" He looked important. It didn't cross my mind once that he might be from the academy. But it was too late. He entered and closed the door behind him. "Georgia Banks?"
"How did you know my name?" I asked
"Not important at all."
This was awkward. "Tea?"
"No, I brought cookies. I'm an old family friend of your mother, Cara?"
That checked out. I grabbed a cookie and ate it. "That's actually goo-"
The man suddenly put a cloth on my mouth and the cookie made me drowsy. "N-no."
I kicked out at him, and heard him groan. I got to my feet and stumbled to my bathroom, preparing to barricade the door. Unfortunately, I didn't make it that far. I fell to the floor in a heap. My mind went blank. Then I fell unconscious.
I carried Georgia out of her apartment and locked the door. I felt bad that I had to use such force, but otherwise she would not co-operate, I knew that. She clearly hadn't been kidnapped, on her body there was no signs of force being used. And plus, why the hell would a kidnapper bring her to her own home? I drove back to the academy. The headmistress would not be pleased with this girl. And I suspect, neither would her caregiver.

Rimward Bound
Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. His first act is to issue notice that no ship is to be without crew nor sit in dock or reserve for longer then required for maintenance and upkeep. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course.
