《Angel Academy》CHAPTER FIFTY-THREE

I felt my consciousness begin to surface as I looked around the pitch black void that surrounded me on all sides, I could hear muffled voices in the distance but I couldn't work out what they were saying. Intrigued, I willed myself to move towards the source of the noise but immediately felt a dull throbbing reach my head. I continued to walk towards the voices and strained my ears to pick up the words that were slowly becoming clearer but with every step that I took the pain grew, leading me to believe that I was waking up.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hit her that hard," came the familiar voice of Emrick.

"Well you did, and she has been passed out for hours!" Exclaimed an extremely angry sounding voice.

A heavy sigh echoed around the room, thinning the tense air.

"I have waited too long for her to finally arrive, so if she doesn't wake up, you will be the one to face the consequence," the voice continued in a calmer but deadlier tone.

"I said I'm sorry what else do you want?" Emrick snapped hurtfully.

"What I want, Son, is for you to shut the hell up and leave until she wakes," challenged the other voice causing an eerie silence to flood into the room until the voice continued. "I cannot deal with your level of incompetence right now."

"As you wish" replied Emrick timidly.

As soon as the sound of retreating footsteps, followed by the soft click of a door filled my ears, my eyes slowly cracked open to reveal a blurry grey image of a smooth looking stone ceiling. I blinked a few times to clear my vision before I carefully looked around the room, making sure not to move enough to give away my consciousness.

"Elizebeth!" called the voice, alerting me that the man was standing somewhere to my right.

I pondered over the name as a quick set of clicking footsteps enter the room. He couldn't mean Academy Elizebeth, could he? I thought in confusion, she was taken to the Elysium guard.

"You called?" followed her familiar bittersweet voice.

"Come over here for a second" he replied slyly.

After a moment of hesitation, the clicking footsteps drew nearer, I closed my eyes and tried my best to make my breathing seem relaxed.

"I-is that... Aurora?" Questioned Elizebeth in surprise.

"Yes, it is," he said smugly "Now, after I catch up with my daughter here, I still need the boy... Shade is it?... to completely break my link with the prison" he explained, grasping my attention. "So I'm going to need you to take Tenebris to find Shade and bring him to me"

The room fell silent before the clicking steps started again until they reached my side, I could hear her soft breathing as she thought of something to say.

"Forgive me for asking, but why do you need me to do this?" she asked timidly, "doesn't Emrick usually handle this kind of thing?" she added.

"Emrick, is slowly proving himself to be useless," he replied calmly "besides, I didn't allow you to be rescued from the guard so you could do nothing," he said, allowing his voice to grow sterner.

"If I do this can you keep your word and release my brother? I didn't want to betray them you know" she said, her voice cracking slightly.

"It seems that your loyalties may be changing" he replied in a dangerously low voice.

"That's not what I said!" shouted Elizebeth in sudden panic.

"Good" he replied in satisfaction "when you see that boy that you had foolishly fallen in love with, remember the look your brothers terrified little face, and remember that your cooperation is the only thing keeping him alive," he said cruelly.

"I understand" she whimpered instantly.

The deafening roar of a dragon filled the room, making the strong stone walls tremble. A loud thud followed by slow scraping footsteps followed rattling the old floor. I decided that the dragon must have come into the building on its riders command.

"Down Tenebris" he commanded in a softer tone.

A low growl escaped the dragon's throat as the clicking footsteps of Elizebeth approached it.

"Now go, bring me the boy" he commanded strongly, causing the dragon to release another ground-shaking roar.

"That stone cannot be very comfortable, why don't you sit up Aurora? we have a lot of catching up to do" he laughed cheerlessly.

Had he known that I was awake the whole time? I wondered, regardless I gulped nervously and raised my body into a sitting position before I opened my eyes cautiously.

Upon opening, they instantly locked with a pair of atramentous purple eyes. I let out an involuntary gasp to which the figure before me responded with a smirk.

"Do you know who I am?" he asked with an unsettling smile rested upon his lips.

What I had heard and this man's appearance could make him only one person.

"Lucifer" I responded quickly.

He nodded his head without dropping his sly smile. I chewed on my bottom lip and looked around the extremely large room while I contemplated running, there was a set of humungous double doors with various glowing texts and engravings upon its sleek, dull golden surface positioned to my far left, but other than that the only other things in the room were the rectangle, tomb-like stone that I was laying on and a row of elegant stone steps leading up to a large throne that seemed to be surrounded by tall unnatural orange flames that swirled slowly around it.

"They are binding flames" explained Lucifer as he noticed me staring at the throne. "I'm sure that you have heard all about the imprisonment that sealed me away for all these years?" he finished.

I looked back towards him and nodded my head as I moved my feet over the side of the stone.

"Those flames represent the last bit of magic that binds me to the prison world, as soon as they're vanquished I am completely free," he said as he stared at the flames with pure hatred in his eyes.

An idea suddenly sparked in my mind, if the flames were the only things binding him to the prison they could have the power to send him back, or at least keep him from getting out into the world.

"Why are you telling me this?" I asked before I could stop myself.

He looked at me blankly so I took his silence as my cue to continue.

"I will never side with you, so why are you telling me that those flames have the power to send you back to hell?" I questioned.

"You're my daughter" he replied plainly.

I looked at him in disbelief and shook my head as I got to my feet, all of the fear that had begun to build inside me instantly turned to anger.

"I will NEVER be your daughter!" I shouted bitterly.

"Believe what you want, but you do have my blood... and that, that is something that you can never change" he replied in a firm tone.

I crossed my arms over my chest and let out a long sigh.

"Why do you need me? and don't say that you want both of your children by your side" I said, exposing that I already knew that he had some other sort of twisted plan for me and Shade.

"In truth, I need the two children of the prophecy to break my bonds" he replied sincerely. "You are the white wolf cursed with darkness while the Shade is the black wold blessed with light. But this only refers to your angelic power, you have a darkness inside you which should have consumed you by now, willing you to my side, but thanks to Sebastian's problematic son getting in the way of my curse, you also have a light inside you, which is the only thing that is keeping you above the darkness" he explained.

I took in as much of the information that I could but it was all still so confusing, I rubbed my hand over my face and shot Lucifer an unsatisfied look.

"To put it in simple terms, you and Shade are linked in more ways than just the prophecy. When the curse took place, some of your inner darkness moved into Shade, causing what you would call his 'light' to travel into you, which is what makes Shade part demon and what prevents you from succumbing to the dark urges."

"I am the reason that Shade has suffered for the majority of his life," I said in realisation.

"Actually I get to take credit for that since I was the one who cast the curse," said Lucifer proudly.

I rolled my eyes at him just as a loud bang erupted from the strange looking door. I looked back at Lucifer who mumbled something to himself before he turned his hand so his right palm was facing up, a small golden flame instantly appearing above it. He pulled his arm back and forcefully threw the ball towards the door, causing it to crash into the golden surface and make the engravings glow brightly. The door began to click and groan under its new command until it cracked open to allow entrance to the other side.

Emrick strutted confidently into the room, a wide grin appearing on his face as soon as his eyes rested on me.

"I see that you're awake Sister, sorry about the headache," he said smoothly, coming to a halt in front of us. "shall we begin?" he then questioned, turning his attention to Lucifer.

Lucifer had begun to reply but I allowed my attention to wander from him to the door, Emrick hadn't bothered to close it so there was a small chance that I could escape.

"I wish it didn't have to be this way" sighed Lucifer, regaining my attention.

"What?" I asked in sudden confusion.

"Did you not tell her Father?" Questioned Emrick in a weirdly fake tone. "In order for the flames to be vanquished... you and Shade need to die" he finished, making my blood run cold.
