Dash's POV
"We need to talk." I repeated as I walked over and took a seat beside her.
"Sure." She book her black book marker between the pages before closing the book and setting it on the table. "What are we talking about?"
"Is Titus my father?" I asked bluntly making her gasp in shock.
"Of course he is." She responded. "Where else do you think you get that rotten attitude of yours."
"Ok." I breathed with relief.
"Why would you even ask me that?" She stared at me like I had grown two heads.
"Cause, I've was just wondering why Titus is so convinced I'm not his and why you never wanted me to be with you." I shrugged and she sighed.
"Your father and I were never in love with each other, well at least I was madly in love with him till I found out I was only a pawn in his father's scheme." She took a deep breath as I adjusted my position to get more comfortable.
"That son of a bitch was just using me, it was the whole reason why he got involved with me in the first place." She took another deep breath then continued. "My great grandfather was the strongest werewolf followed by my grandfather and father, making our family the heads of all the packs in the region."
"Ernesto was not happy about that so he mobilized all the other pack alphas in the region and formed a plot to overthrow my grandfather, it was not going to be easy for them to do it so they needed an inside man to tell them everything from how the castle was structured, how many guards and staff were employed there to our family tree and weaknesses."
I could tell by the way she kept taking deep breaths after every sentence that this topic was quite hard for her to talk about and I felt sorry for putting her through this but I needed to know everything I was kept in the dark about.
"They had a meeting and implored your father because he was the youngest and unmated alpha to find a way to find out everything they needed to know."

"And he used you." I sighed feeling bad for her.
"That's right, that bastard toyed with my heart and found out everything he needed to know by the time I came to realize it was too late, their soldiers marched into our castle the night after the blood moon, great grandfather always gave majority of the staff the few hours before dawn off so that they could be with their mates, he knew exactly how it affected them so he let them go an Titus knew that, so when their marched into my home fully armed, no one was prepared." She took drew in a breath as she closed her eyes as though reliving the day. "They slaughtered so many innocent people."
Her hands balled into fists as she continued telling me the story.
"Dorothy and I would have died too but my papa snuck as into a hidden room no one, not even chief maid knew about in the castle and told us to stay in there till he came back for us." A tear rolled down her fair cheeks and I gently wiped it away with the pad of my thumb. "He never came back."
"I'm sorry." I pulled her against my chest and rubbed her back. "I'm sorry you had to go through all that."
"It's ok." She pulled away and wiped her tears. "I told no one about mine and your father's relationship so everyone wondered how the alphas had gotten all the information about our family especially how they could kill them because they were different, I don't know how but we were different."
"Later that day we got out of the hidden room and snuck out of the castle with the help of one of my father's best friend, Ackerly."
"Really." I crocked my eyebrow. "The man looks younger than he actually is."
"He does doesn't he." She chuckled. "So a few weeks after changing our names and moving to a different state I found out I was pregnant, my mama and younger brother Christopher asked me who the father was, at first I hid the truth but they pressed me till I told them the truth and everything came to light, they found out I was the one who gave the alpha's the information they needed and my mother was so infuriated she kicked me out, she didn't want anything to do with someone who could betray her own family for a guy she barely knew."

"But it wasn't your fault, you were young and naïve." I protested.
"I tried to tell her that but she wasn't taking it." She run a hand through her hair. "But can you blame her, I did get the love of her life killed, I deserved everything that came to me. She and Christopher still resent me for it, only Dorothy ever got past it and bothered to look for me after my youngest sister Bella passed."
"When I got kicked out, I decided to move to abort the baby and move different to a different state where I lead a very reckless life, I hadn't been sober for months when your father's men captured me and I was kept in his dungeon for almost 2 year, that piece of scum did whatever he wanted with me whenever he felt like." She snarled. "One day a guard who allegedly was spared by my father years ago helped me escape and this time I moved as far away from his pack as I could get with the little money I had."
"After a month on the run, I found out I was pregnant with you around the same time I met William." She run a hand through her air. "He was a really sweet guy and took great care of me, I hadn't told him I was pregnant and I had decided I was not going to abort so I drugged him and we had sex." She chuckled. "2 weeks later I broke the news of my pregnancy to him, I didn't know how he would react but he was so happy and accepted you whole heartedly, you must have seen the stupid grin on his face after finding out." She laughed so hard.
"I guess apples never fall far from the tree." I clinked my tongue.
"Of course I did feel guilty but I was willing to do anything to keep you." She spoke and her facial expression changed from a jolly to sad.
"Unfortunately he wasn't as stupid as I thought, he found out you weren't his when you were 2 years old and he snapped, he never hated me but you."
"He didn't really try to hide that fact." I shrugged.
"For a year he pressed me on who your father was and I always made an excuse till one day he grabbed you and held you over the fire, he threatened to drop you and I had no choice but to tell him the truth."
She went on and explained the events that took place till I was sent back to my father.
"I had come up with a plan to run away with you because I hated the way William treated you but when I told Ackerly about it he advised against it.
Apparently there was an order to kill you because you were different." She shifted in her seat. "So Ackerly convinced your grandfather to take you in saying if he had you it meant his family would remain the most powerful and respected in the kingdom so he accepted and took you in, that bastard never loved you, he only wanted to use you, which he did."
"I honestly never wanted to give you up but the alcoholic and drug addict I was couldn't have kept you safe, so for your safety I gave in." She placed her hand against my cheek. "I never would have given you up but you had to claim your birthright and have a better life."
"What made me different?" She kept saying I was different but it didn't make any sense, I was just the same as other alphas.
"You aren't an ordinary werewolf, you come from a long line of lycans, you are a lycan and not just any ordinary one, you are a king."

Logical consciousness before birth ,however impossible with the udder lack of brain cells was quite the gift. One could see it as a curse, stuck alone in a dark and near silent womb for months with little need for rest. Phycological torture for those who couldn't grapple with the thought of such a miraculous time. After all if such awareness was available before the proper Brain matter was grown them how would one gain consciousness? Well there is only one simple and miraculous word to describe it. Magic. Whether it was a highly organized magic system, a chaotic mash of dark arts, or some divine intervention it could be considered to be magic non the less. And magic? Well one had plenty of time in the womb to discover and train it. And that was exactly what one would do if they found themselves in such a situation! Thanks to WifuLabs for the cover.

To get things started I would like to admit that this story does not bring much new to the table when it comes to the over-saturated Litrpg genre in terms of things like mechanics and power systems. Then what exactly am I trying to bring to the table with this work? A nice slow-paced novel about people maturing and growing older think of it as the re: zero or jobless reincarnation of Litrpgs. A story that tries to take into consideration how a worldwide system would affect the economics and culture of a world. A story that is much more character-focused than the typical heavy progression-focused novels this genre is known for. The RPG system, like any good power system, is there to actually explore the themes of the story and not just as a plot device for characters to get stronger. This is a story where we will see the growth of the Mc from being a baby to when he dies of old age. With plenty of heart-racing actions and intriguing plot developments along the way. Exploring themes like; What does it mean to improve at something and what does it mean to mature as a person? How does magic, the constant threat of monsters and people so much stronger than the average joe that they can destroy countries affect one's culture both on the micro and the macro scale? How people are affected by the culture in general? Generational trauma Nature vs Nurture Talent vs hard work What is morality, society, and people's opinions on both? What does it mean to be human and what does it mean to be alive in the context of a world with multiple sapient species vastly different from one another in basic biology? All these questions are going to be explored from multiple angles using the system as a catalyst for those discussions. So if any of does questions sound interesting to you what are you waiting for, I'm sure you are going to love this story. PS - Chapter come out every Friday at about the same time.
