《The Colour Seers》Chapter 6, Helena

I enclosed Ryan in a tight grasp carefully digging my nails into his back. A small whimper escaped his mouth as my finger slipped into one of the cuts. I buried my face into him as I hid my smirk into his bare chest. To think I would ever like the brat would be sick. Though he sure did put up a good fight when I attacked him. only said it was an in and out mission. Find the boy, make everyone trust him, kill the others, turn him into a weapon and get him safely back to . I have hated every second in this prison.
Though I may hate the boy and must act like a scared little kitten, I feel kinda bad that he has had to live in this shithole all of his life. It's so claustrophobic here and the food makes me want to puke. Constantly. Any who, once unwrapping myself from the boy I quickly moved my hands into the sheets, ridding the excess blood from him into them. Pouting I looked into the eyes of the boy "Are you ok Ryan? Gosh! You scared me so much! You just... fell. I didn't know what to do!". I thought about the day my sister came and told me her boyfriend had knocked her up and left. Tears poured down my face as I made myself small and innocent.
I felt feminine, delicate hands on my shoulders gracefully pulling me back into them. Ashley's frizzy red hair was braided down onto her chest. Wiping my eyes, my fingers gently encased themselves into her hair. I hated pretending to be a mouse even when I am a proud lioness. I could easily end their lives but said not to because when saw the future said he would be of great importance in the rebellion.
Ryan's voice sounded through the room, shaking "I'm doing better, if you had not called for help I could have died. Also, it is a pleasure to meet you. Again", he chuckled on the last part. Delicately wiping my fake tears I gently sat next to him. "Are you sure?" I asked, realising my words came out harsher then they were meant to, but fortunately no one noticed. "Yes, actually I quite am." he replied smiling, I think it was supposed to be dazzling but if it wasn't for Carter back at home, maybe I would have fell for that smile.
My sister's boyfriend is quite the lover when she isn't around. Before I left he promised to finish up with her so we could finally be together out in the open. I hope he does keep that promise because I have loved him for as long as I can remember, and even flirting with Ryan makes me sick.

Standing up I walked out of the room to find Aiden standing outside. I still had a bone to pick with him about leaving my sister pregnant and alone, but I couldn't deny how much I loved my niece. "He'll want to see you again." I whispered to him. Nodding, he walked into the room like a scared puppy. Gently sprinting back to the kitchens I walked up to the knife rack. I pulled one out and sliced it softly in a downward motion over my palm. Blood arose from the torn skin and I squeezed it gently over a bowl.
After the bottom of the bowl was filled with blood I rinsed my wound and the knife and reached for the special herbs in my pocket. As I swirled the bloody mixture around I muttered the chant "Grant me passageway to talk to my leader, Nyx Achlys.".
The blood swirled up into a small circle giving a live image to a bundle of midnight blue and wine purple coloured hair. "Nyx?" I asked quietly not wanting to scare her awake in fear of punishment. Slowly the bundle turned over and two deep brown, piercing eyes glared back at me. "Ah, Helena, I see you've arrived at camp ok.", her cold voice resonated through the small dark bedroom. I shivered and replied "Yes ma'am". Looking around her the leader spoke again "You have eyes on the boy. I have seen it in my dreams. Also refrain from hurting him again. He is of great importance to me.".
I nodded my head lowly not wanting to look her in the eye. "Look me in the eye when I talk to you Helena, I trusted you with the mission I could have given to anyone else so show a bit of respect!" Nyx growled at me. I whimpered and looked into her brown cold orbs. "Any new visions?" I breathed. Studying me she replied defensively "No, the visions have not returned since last time you checked in. I do see bits in my dreams, the boy is about ready to start receiving visions and dreams, you need to break them out of the camp soon, protect him at all costs, understand?" I nodded, swiping my hand through the blood vision, cutting the call.
After cleaning up the evidence of the blood magic I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies for Ryan hoping to lure him into my trust. He had to tell me everything or we would get nowhere. What would Nyx do to him once she got her hands on him? Would he suddenly become her most trusted? Would she drop me? Maybe he could be a little roughed up before meeting her?

I came from a camp. A camp of colour seers who escaped the grasp of the tortuous people they called the rule enforcers. Nyx, one of the very limited colour seers who could actually see the future and have visions ran it. It was a home to all refuge CS'. She trained us all to form an elite group of rebels who are waiting for the perfect time to hold an uprising. We were going to do it 3 years ago until she had a vision of him, Ryan Alexander Madden, one of 5 living colour seers beside Nyx herself who had the gift of the sight.
He was so powerful and he didn't even know it. The whole race of us colour seers relied on the safety and brains of this... ignorant boy. My train of thought was interrupted by a knocking on the kitchen door, I couldn't believe it, it was clueless in the flesh. Stepping inside his face lit up like a lovesick puppy, it was disgusting "Hey Helena! Whatcha making?" he asked, looking around the kitchen. I laughed as cute as I could muster, "I'm making choc chip cookies for you, and by the look on your face I guess you've never been in here either?".
The boy looked at me with a sparkle in his eye. God, what I would do to destroy it, "No I haven't actually, the guards never let anyone in here, the chef hates us as well, how did you get in here?" he replied curiously, staring at me. "Magic" I winked back. He laughed as the timer went off for the cookies. Not wanting to stay with him any longer I busied myself with the cookies... and he followed me. Sighing quietly, I pulled the cookies out purposely skimming the hot tray along his arm.
He let out a low quick scream and tears filled his eyes as he ran over to the sink. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! I was so clumsy, let me help you!" I breathed out quickly, turning on the cold water and holding his arm underneath. He sniffled and wiped his nose with his un-injured arm "It's ok, don't worry about it. We all make mistakes". I nodded and acted meekly, though I was burning with pure hatred and anger on the inside. Just as I was putting away the cookies Aiden burst through the door.
"Quick, Booshwater has Lil! She was playing near the borders away from Julia and Malia and he won't let her go!" he rushed out. A sense of maternal instinct flowed through me as I sprinted out the door with the others into the hall. Lilliana reminded me too much of my niece Caitlyn. Screams and cries were heard out of the hall before we even got in. The director had Lilliana by the neck and was screaming at her in the face. The poor girl had tears running down her swollen eyes and red cheeks. She was squirming and wailing.
Lilliana wasn't the only one wailing, her sister Malia was on the floor sobbing being held back by Ashley and Julia. Jeremiah and Nathan were up on stage trying to reason with the guards to give them access to Booshwater. Aiden and Ryan ran over to help Nathan and Jeremiah get through to Booshwater but I ran into the shadows undoing the bandage on my hand. Re-opening the cut on my hand I tried to get the blood to run out again. While at camp for 4 years I had moved up in ranks and because of that Nyx had taught me a little bit of blood magic.
After I got some significant blood on my hand I started the quick ritual. I pulled a hair of Lilliana out of my pocket (I always keep people's hair on me in in case of times like this) and placed it on my red, raw palm. " Keep the girl safe and give her pain to those who hurt her" . I shook slightly as the blood evaporated from my palm.
The hall went quiet before deep throaty gasps were heard from not Lilliana, but Booshwater. While squeezing the girl's neck tighter, one of his hands went around his neck, grasping for any signs of release. Looking terrified he chucked Lilliana across the room into the wall. He let out a sharp yelp as he had the wind knocked out of him. Both crumpled onto the floor, Lilliana now swarmed with the other girls. "What sorcery is this?" he growled. I wasn't scared. After years of training, puny voices who try to be intimidating have no effect on me. Booshwater was just a try hard.

Recruit - An Infinite Labyrinth prequel
A prequel to The Infinite Labyrinth. The year is 1816. The British Empire is in full swing, under the auspices of King George III. The Infinite Labyrinth has been pouring out its product from beyond our reality and fostered a new industrial revolution. Times are changing, and the people of London are feeling the winds of the revolution while British Professionals push into the Labyrinth. The newly formed Artefact Hunting Company is looking for recruits, and they have new technology to help them. From the slums of London, they aim to recruit a new wave of Professionals. And make Zacharias and the Earl of Carnavon lots of money. So, for Rowan Rivers and a handful of lucky ones, it's time to head into the Labyrinth, and discover what makes it different from England. And what makes THEM different? Recruit is a bunch of chapters I wrote to create to the setting, mood, and game systems of the Infinite Labyrinth. It is NOT a complete story in the classic sense. It's more of a slice of life view of early days of a normal Professional from the Infinite Labyrinth, and it's heavy on info-dump. It's 90% canon - there's probably a bit of a difference between how some characters and common behaviour are portrayed here and how they'll come out in the main story. Set two years before the events that kick-start the main series, it features some of the secondary/peripheral characters of the Infinite Labyrinth and will tell you all about the basic mechanics of the Labyrinth's RPG system. It can be considered a spoiler, as the characters in the Infinite Labyrinth are going to need to figure out all that, on their own. But if you like a much deeper exposition in the mechanics, here it is. The entire prequel is about 80 pages long.
