《My Beloved Mate》Prologue

"Why are you always like this?" She asked as she looked at me with tears in her eyes. "We have to do what's best for him, not us."

"What's best for him?!" He yelled at her, making her sob louder. "You are not what's best for him. In fact, you are the complete opposite."

I squeezed his hands and he looked with a faint smile. He caressed my cheek and then turned to glare at her. She too looked down at me, she makeup ruined and her hair a mess. The ring on her finger was gone, as was the one on my father. "Mama?" I asked. I didn't know what was happening but I didn't like it.

"It's okay baby, Mama is going to work for while." She walked up to me and hugged me. My small arms went around her. "Mama will be back, okay baby? So I need you to behave with Papa."

"Okay, Mama." I smiled. She pulled away and wiped away her tears. She rained my face with kisses and then she stood up.

She looked at my father and said something I didn't understand. Then she walked out the door, out of my life forever. As I grew older, I began loathed my mother, any mention of her made me angry. I didn't want to know about her much less care about her. My father tried hard to raise me on his own and I loved him for that.

That was until, I was about seventeen when he brought a woman home. She was nice but she wasn't my mother and I didn't want her to be. They soon got married and her kids from her previous marriage came to live with us. I hated them, they weren't really accepting, even though they were close to my age and my father mostly focused his attention on them.

I soon realized that I wasn't part of the family and when the chance to get away came, I did. I was nineteen when it happened. I packed my bag and moved away after doing that I found a job at a hotel. It paid very well and they didn't need college graduates, it was a good life. I even made some good friends there.

They stuck by me and made me feel belonged. "Lion!" I heard a female voice. I turned around and smiled at the person. "Get out of your head! I've been calling you for ages." She walked over and hugged me.

"Sorry Park, just thinking," I replied as I hugged her back.

"Honey, that's now okay. Stop thinking because you tend to overthink sometimes." She pulled away and pulled my cheeks. "Now, about tonight, are you in?"

"Where are we going again?" I asked as I leaned on the smooth desk.

"A party, of course. Don't worry it's like an adult party so you can drink wine or champagne. Which I still think is for pussies." She rolled her eyes.

"Parker, I don't really care about what you think." I laughed as I stared at her face.

"Yes, that's why you make poor fashion choices." She looked at me up and down. I was wearing a red suit coat with Golden at the sleeves and collar, under that, I had a white shirt with black bow tie and black suit pants.

"It's a uniform." I rolled my eyes as I stood up when I saw the guests. "I have to get back to work, I'll text you when my shift is over."

"Fine." She stood up straight. "I love you...bitch."

I just sighed and shook my head with a small smile. "Welcome to King's Hotel, How May I help you?" I asked the old couple. They were dressed very well.

"We would like the en-suite, for two weeks." The man spoke up.

"Okay, let me just put you in." I quickly typed in that the room they had booked. "What should I put it under?"

"Malcolm Sawyer." The man answered as the woman looked around the lobby.

"All done, would you like to pay now or later?" I asked. It was a routine question that I had to ask.

"Now," The man took out a black card and I took and swiped and handed the EDC machine to put in his pin, and then handed him a pen to sign the receipt.

"Thank you for choosing King's Hotel, enjoy your stay, Sir." I smiled and handed them the keys. "Your room is on the tenth floor, number 243, on the left."

The man nodded and they walked away. They were an odd couple, but I didn't mind it. There were many people like them. They like to keep to themselves and I respect that. I wouldn't like it if someone was snooping around about me, that would be very creepy.

My day went on as I check people in and out. When my shift ended, it was nine pm. I was tired and didn't feel like doing anything because I needed rest. I drove home and quickly took a shower and laid down in my bed. I took my phone and texted Parker that I wouldn't be able to make it since I needed the rest. She replied with a 'fine' and 'don't stay up too late'.

I smiled as I plugged my phone into the charger. I laid back down and looked at my ceiling. From the pit of my stomach, I could feel like my life was going to change and that scared me because change wasn't always good.

And I didn't need my life going to Hell, again.
