《The Younger Agent - Natasha Romanoff x OC》Chapter 89 - Fighting For Forgiveness

With not a lot of time at their disposal, the group came up with a plan relatively quickly. It seemed sound, but as it was a rushed plan there wasn't time to go through and check for flaws or gaps that could be manipulated by the others to get an advantage over them, they just had to trust that it would work. It reminded Eleanor of the plan to steal Sam's wings back in Washington two years ago. That plan was riddled with ways that it could go wrong, but they succeeded. She just hoped that this would follow the same path.

Steve would run to the helicopter waiting for them, along with Eleanor. Tony had more of a soft spot for her than he did for Steve, so there was more of a chance of trying to sway him with her there to talk to him as well instead of him just immediately blowing up the Captain. But for a safety blanket, their little tictac friend would tag along in his miniature form, holding onto Steve's shield so that he couldn't be seen. Sam and Bucky would stay in the airport to use redwing to track down the quinjet, and Wanda and Sam would be outside but hidden away as a backup.

The plan allowed them to be spread out around the area so that if Steve and Eleanor needed backup they could call on them to help and hopefully have an element of surprise. Though she doubted that Tony's team didn't know that they at least had Wanda, Clint, and Sam. Vision probably notified them that she had left the compound with Clint, and Sam had been with Steve from the very beginning.

As Steve and Eleanor ran out into the open with Scott as their stowaway towards the helicopter, all that ran through her mind was the fact that she would likely be facing Natasha in a confrontation in mere moments. It was bad enough that Eleanor had left and gone against the eyes of the law, even if those eyes were not seeing clearly, but now there was probably going to be an actual fight to get either the helicopter or the quinjet that the others had arrived in.

She felt her mouth dry up as they neared the helicopter, a rush of nausea passing through her. There was no way in hell that she would hurt Natasha, and she just hoped that Nat would think the same of her even if she was angry. Though Eleanor thought to herself that she probably did deserve a good punch in the jaw for doing a runner, even if she didn't have much of a choice.

Her thoughts were very quickly interrupted by a device being thrown onto the helicopter, sending an electrical buzz shooting through the vehicle, rendering it useless. Great. Now they just had to hope they were right in the fact that there would be a quinjet somewhere around. The two stopped in their tracks and looked up to what or who caused the malfunction, and lo and behold, Tony and Rhodey in their iron suits flew down and landed in front of them.

Eleanor's face scrunched when the metal suits clanged as they hit the floor, she had hoped that there was a slim chance that they would have been able to make a quick escape, but there was now just going to be immediate conflict. She was desperate for it to not escalate, but with the clashing powers of Cap and Tony, that wasn't a likely outcome. "Wow, it's so weird how you run into people at the airport", Tony spoke as his helmet retreated back into the suit and he turned to Rhodey, "Don't you think that's weird?".

"Definitely weird".

"Hear us out, Tony", Steve got their attention, and Eleanor could see the anger radiating off of Stark, making her hold her head higher as he looked between them. They needed to stand their ground. "That doctor, the psychiatrist, he's behind all of this".

Eleanor nodded, "He's right Tony, the psy-", she tried to start explaining how they knew these facts to give themselves more credibility in this situation instead of being viewed as reckless, but her head snapped to the side as they watched T'Challa in his Black Panther suit landing beside them. Oh, fantastic. They had reinforcements too.

"Captain, Agent", T'Challa nodded at the duo as he stood. "Your Highness", Steve continued the pleasantries whilst Eleanor just gave a curt nod.

"Anyway", Tony walked around to the other side of Rhodey, "Ross gave me 36 hours to bring you in. That was 24 hours ago, can you help a brother out?".

Eleanor took a step forward and Tony looked at her with his eyes narrowed, almost as if he was challenging her to continue breaking the accords. Well, challenge accepted she thought to herself, "You need to look at the bigger picture Tony, there's something huge at play here you just need to listen".

"You're after the wrong guy", Steve backed her up, though apparently it still wasn't enough. "Your judgements are askew. Steve, your old war buddy killed innocent people yesterday". Steve's voice raised as he continued, getting fed up, along with Eleanor, of him not giving them a chance, immediately thinking that they were in the wrong. "And there are five more super soldiers just like him. I can't let the doctor find them first Tony. We can't".

"Steve...". Eleanor completely froze at the voice she heard behind her. Natasha. Her nose scrunched as she readied herself, and put on a blank face as she slowly turned to face her wife, who briefly looked at her with a look that Eleanor couldn't decipher before turning her attention to Steve, clearly trying to ignore the fact that Eleanor was also on the other side of the fight that she was. "You know what's about to happen. Do you really wanna punch your way outta this one?".

Steve didn't listen and turned to face Tony whilst Eleanor sent her an apologetic look and did the same. "Alright, I've run out of patience. Underoos!", Tony shouted through cupped metal hands. Eleanor frowned and tilted her head, what was underoos? Though her question was soon answered as a giant spider web was shot at Steve's shield, dragging it out of his hands and leaving them cuffed with web, whilst someone in a red skintight suit covering their face flipped over the top of them and landed on a vehicle on Tony's side. Another reinforcement.

"What the fuck?", Eleanor spoke clearly and turned to face Nat who just shrugged unapologetically. She clearly thought that they had gotten themselves into this mess so shouldn't be surprised at the outcome of this. She tugged her lips together in a tight-lipped smile and turned back to Tony who shouted "Nice job kid!". Kid?

"Thanks!", the kid shouted back and yep, he really did sound like a fourteen-year-old. Eleanor sent Tony an incredulous look that he had brought a child onto a potential battlefield, that seemed low. The kid then proceeded to ramble about how he could have stuck the landing better but he struggled with the new suit and then introduced himself to the Team Cap duo, stating that he was a big fan, and topped it off by introducing himself as Spiderman. Meanwhile Tony was trying to get him to be quiet.

Eleanor gave the kid a small half-smile, he was clearly new to this, and she didn't agree with his involvement in the first place. "You've been busy", Steve started up the conversation between the two groups again. "And you've been a complete idiot", Tony spat back, "Dragging in Clint, 'rescuing' Wanda from a place she doesn't even wanna leave, a safe place. And El, you signed! Ross wants you to be put on trial with full jail time, he wants your head on a plate. I'm tryna keep... I'm tryna keep you from tearing the Avengers apart". His voice softened at the end, but Eleanor just gulped at hearing that Ross was going to be putting her through a full, and likely public trial where she would be dragged in the mud and have a lot of blame forced on her so that it took the attention off of any government blunders that may arise from this. A scapegoat.

"You did that when you signed", Steve retorted calmly, not letting Tony's words affect him. Tony stared at him with his jaw slightly slack in disbelief before snapping himself back into reality, "Alright we're done", he then raised his voice which made Eleanor flinch slightly from the change in tones, "You're gonna turn Barnes over, you're gonna come with us, now because it's us or a squad of J-SOC guys with no compunction about being impolite. Come on".

It pained Eleanor to hear how desperate Tony was, clearly not wanting to do this to his friends and family, but they had no choice. They couldn't follow Tony and let all of this be for nothing, they needed to get to those super soldiers. There wasn't another option.

Sam's voice interrupted by coming through their comms, "We found it. Their quinjet's in hangar five, North runway". At this Eleanor smiled slightly, causing Tony to frown, and Steve lifted his arms up, an arrow soon flying past and through the web handcuffs. Tony's helmet quickly covered his face again as he looked behind him to see where it had come from. "Alright Lang", Steve spoke quietly into comms, and soon after the Spiderman kid was sent flying backwards and Scott flipped backwards full-sized with Steve's shield in his hand.

"I believe this is yours Captain America", Scott handed the shield over to Steve and Eleanor held back a chuckle at the formality and at how confused the other side looked. Tony and Rhodey both started talking into their own comms with their team whilst flying up into the air, clearly trying to make a plan of who takes on who. "Barnes is mine!", T'Challa shouted and ran off, Eleanor stared at him wide-eyed as he sprinted, and turned back around when metal clanging caught her attention. Steve had thrown his shield at Rhodey and it ricocheted back into his hand.

Immediately Steve ran after T'Challa to stop him from reaching Bucky, and Scott walked over to Eleanor as Natasha approached them. The pit feeling in her stomach returned as she watched Natasha march the few steps towards the pair and she grimaced at the hardened look she sent to Scott, again trying not to let any aggression out on Eleanor.

"Look, I really don't want to hurt you", Scott started, and Eleanor let out a loud, short laugh. Even though her wife was on the other side she still laughed at her teammate, he should be worried about Natasha hurting her. Nat looked at her with an amused glint in her eye and turned back to Scott with a smirk, "I wouldn't stress about it". She then kicked him in the groin, grabbed his arm and turned to trap him with his arm twisted. Scott shrunk and flipped Nat onto the floor which Eleanor winced at, and dragged her hand behind her back, though she quickly shot him away with a widow's bite. Due to his small stature, Eleanor lost sight of him but shrugged and took a step toward Nat who was still on the floor.

"You okay?", she stepped into Nat's eye line who looked at her with a tightened jaw and scrambled to stand up. "Just peachy".

Eleanor looked at her awkwardly, Natasha was sending a lot of mixed signals about whether she was genuinely angry with her or not, but decided that she should probably try and get ahold of that quinjet. In a not-so-subtle way, Eleanor started walking back toward the airport and pointed her thumb behind her, "So, I'm just gonna-".

"Not so fast", Nat shook her head and wrapped a grappling rope around her wife's ankle and activated the pulley system. Eleanor was thrown harshly to the floor, hitting the cement with a thud, she groaned in pain as she started being yanked towards Natasha who was staring at her with an oh-so-smug look. Eleanor gritted her teeth, she was still going to keep her rule, but after being yanked to the floor she was changing it to 'She won't hurt Natasha too much'. "So-", Nat started but Eleanor interrupted by wrapping her free leg around Nat's and sending her flying to the floor too, and she manoeuvred to try and release herself from the rope, but to no avail.

Nat immediately looped a leg over Eleanor and straddled her waist, pinning her arms above her head, "What the hell do you think you're playing at El? I've been worried sick, you disappeared with just a sorry look...". Eleanor tried to cut in to get a word in but failed. "No, I'm talking right now!", Nat shouted and Eleanor felt the air leave her lungs as her eyes widened, Nat had never shouted at her with malice like that before.

At seeing Eleanor's face pale slightly with wide eyes, Nat softened, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry", she breathed out, "But I've been so fucking worried, I've been on the taskforce hunting you down and I've been overhearing various plans for people to be arrested and potentially shot on sight, do you know how fucking scary that is? Seeing your mugshot plastered on the wall with plans to shoot on sight if things go wrong? ...Why did you leave?".

Natasha's voice cracked towards the end which made Eleanor's heart shatter into a million pieces, she never ever wanted to hurt her. The broken look in her green eyes made her want to cry. "I'm so sorry, but Sam walked up to me and what I was told was too damning to ignore. The psychiatrist, he's the one that's behind this, he used HYDRA's brainwashing technique to turn Bucky into the Winter Soldier whilst in holding, and Buck wasn't even the one to make the kill. We don't know why he's doing this or if HYDRA is back, but there are more Winter Soldiers in Siberia that he is trying to reach, and each one is worse than Bucky. If he gets to them then there is no telling what they will do, please you need to believe me".

Nat's jaw went slack as she listened to Eleanor's explanation, and she was right, it wasn't like Eleanor could just walk away from that. "I didn't want to leave you", Eleanor said with a slight whimper, and immediately Nat's guard dropped fully and she let go of Eleanor's arms and pressed their foreheads together, "I know you didn't, it's okay".

There was a moment of silence between as Eleanor wrapped her arms around her wife, fighting sounds still booming in the background. "You know I still need one of us on Ross' side, I need to attempt to make arrests", Natasha pulled away from the hug and looked down at Eleanor still splayed on the floor beneath her.

"I know", the younger woman smiled. "But there's no way I'm letting them take you away from me", Nat continued with a more hardened and determined look, and Eleanor shook her head slightly. "I'm not leaving you again- though actually, I do need to help these guys still, but after that, I'm not leaving you again", she finished with a crooked grin that made Nat let out a small laugh.

"Go", Nat got up and gestured to the airport with her head, but both stopped when Eleanor's leg was raised off of the floor by Nat's wrist grapple suddenly working again to pull the rope in further. It was silent before they both let out a laugh as Nat cut the rope and Eleanor stood, quickly giving her wife a tight hug and a smile before running over to where Steve was fighting T'Challa, leaving Nat to try and look for Scott so that it didn't look like she was just letting Eleanor get away.
