《The Younger Agent - Natasha Romanoff x OC》Chapter 88 - Family Twig

All of the new recruits were on board with the plan of going against the accords in order to try and stop the unknown man from reaching the other Winter Soldiers. All kinds of hell would break loose if he were to win. Well, everyone was on board except for Wanda, who didn't know that there was anything to be on board with yet, Clint would explain everything to her when he went to pick her up. Hopefully, she would follow him as Wanda would be a great asset to the team, plus Eleanor wanted to be able to clear the air with her before their likely run across the country, even if Steve says that won't happen. Though the group did feel guilty about dragging two of their friends into this mess, but it didn't feel like there was much of a choice if they wanted society to keep running as it is now.

Scott Lang, aka Antman, agreed and was on his way over to Clint, and Sharon was risking everything to give Steve and Sam their gear back. Eleanor had been expecting her to decline and use Steve's call to track them, she was a CIA Agent, after all, that would be the protocol that she would have to follow. But she decided to help them out, knowing that Steve wouldn't be asking her to stick her neck out for no reason.

So, the small Berlin group crowded into the tiny old car that they had arrived in and started heading over to the agreed-upon meeting place with Agent Carter. Unfortunately, Eleanor had been shoved in the back next to the super soldier who took up 95% of the backseat space. Sam pointed out that because she got to be in the front on the way there, it was only fair that he got to be in the front on this journey. Her face scrunched initially, wanting to argue her way into getting the front seat, but she knew that he was right. It was only fair.

So, she clambered into the backseat after Bucky and had her entire body shoved up against the side, his Michelin man sized body not leaving much room. Her face was completely void of emotion as she stared at Steve's headrest in front of her, trying her hardest to try and mentally remove herself from the space so that she can survive for the next hour whilst being turned into a pancake.

She had managed to successfully zone out for fifteen minutes before her attention was brought back by Sam saying her name in a sentence and laughing, she leaned over Bucky and popped her head in between the two front seats as best as she could, "Hm?". Sam turned to face her slightly with a smug smile, "Oh I was just saying how comfortable the front seat is and how lovely you are for swapping with me".

Her face formed a deep scowl, not appreciating the taunting after she had been so kind as to hand the seat over without so much as a rock, paper, scissors contest. So, she sat back in her seat and muttered "asshole", causing a slight smile to form on Bucky's face, but he also felt slightly guilty as he took up so much space. It really was a tiny car, they all cursed Steve for hijacking such a tiny one but apparently it was the first one he saw. Eleanor just wished he had turned his head even one degree to the side to see if there was another one nearby before picking up a car the size of a marshmallow.

Though she couldn't sulk for long, as the railway line that they needed to follow soon came into view, and Steve pointed it out to the group. They followed alongside of it for ten minutes before reaching the bridge that Sharon said she would be parked under, and soon enough the Audi that she had driven in came into view, and Eleanor wished that she was sitting in those comfortable seats.

Steve slowly pulled the car under the bridge and to a slow stop behind Sharon's car. Eleanor cracked her back as Steve and Sharon got out of their respective cars and walked over to the boot of her car, Bucky gave Eleanor a disturbed look as the loud crack of her now relieved spine sounded through the vehicle, and she just gave him a 'really' look considering he had seen terrible things as his time as the Winter Soldier.

The trio in the car couldn't hear what was going on between the two outside, so it was a rather boring thing to witness. It wasn't as though she could even get out of the car to stretch her legs as there were no back doors and the seat in front of her was stiff to move without Steve's strength, so unless Sam moved his ass she was trapped, and it wasn't likely that Sam was going to get out, the risk of Eleanor stealing her seat back was too high.

It did get interesting when the boot of the car was opened and the gear could clearly be seen. Eleanor had no clue how she managed to steal the stuff that was being guarded and get back out with it but they had stolen the wings initially themselves so it wasn't an impossible task. "Can you move your seat up?", Bucky spoke to Sam quietly with a face relatively void of emotion. "No". Eleanor pursed her lips to hold back a smile, it wasn't just her getting pissed off by the Falcon.

Steve and Sharon continued their conversation before she briefly looked through their car, making Bucky shuffle further over into his side of the vehicle as he felt uncomfortable, and Eleanor slowly turned her head with a slack jaw, wondering why he couldn't have squeezed himself into his side much sooner. Though she soon turned her head back when she noticed both Bucky and Sam nodding subtly at Steve. And what she saw made her very visibly cringe in her spot. Steve was kissing Sharon.

On the surface level, it may have been a cute moment, but Steve had been in love with her aunt and had only just been to her funeral. It weirded her out. Maybe he should try and branch off away from that family tree. But apparently, Sam and Bucky weren't phased by this fact and were just silently cheering him on for getting a kiss. He shook his head slightly when he saw the two in the car looking at him as though he had won something, and moved to grab all of their stuff from her car to transfer it into theirs.

"Don't", Steve spoke blandly but with a small smile on his face when he got back into the driver's seat and started the car. "I wasn't gonna say anything, man", Sam laughed and shook his head. Eleanor tried her best not to think about what just happened, and focused on what would be happening next. A journey to the airport where there would hopefully be an empty Avengers quinjet waiting for them, along with a helicopter as backup. Stealing from Tony wasn't exactly on their bucket list, but they were in need of a jet, and he had arrived in one and parked it at the airport, unlike where Nat had parked the one she and Eleanor had arrived in. Right at the headquarters of the task force. So, that was a no-go.

It didn't take long to drive to the airport, which was why they had the idea in the first place. There was an empty quinjet nearby, they couldn't drop that opportunity. Eleanor once again spent the journey in silence, wanting to be anywhere but in that car. She missed Natasha, but she was far too down the rabbit hole now to even consider the idea of ditching this effort and going home. She would be arrested on sight. If this didn't work then she had royally screwed up her life with Nat. No growing old together, no buying a family home, no more travelling the world, no pets, not even the possibility of kids if they wanted that in retirement. Just one of them being in a cell, and the other one being alone. So, she didn't want to dwell on how fucked up the situation was, so again tried her best to zone out of her thoughts and the present completely until she could focus on the mission ahead.

As Steve drove through the airport carpark to reach Level 6, the meeting place for the rest of the group, Eleanor noticed how empty it looked, which left an unsettled feeling in the pit of her stomach. This wasn't going to go down easy, and boy did she want it to go down easy. There had been too much mess over the last two months, she just wanted something to go their way for once, but evidently, it wouldn't.

When the tiny car was parked two spaces away from the white van that the others had arrived in, Steve got out and moved his chair forward for Eleanor to scramble out of. "Cap", Clint walked towards them as Wanda got out of the van, her eyes widening ever so slightly as she saw Eleanor stumbling out due to having dead legs.

"You know I wouldn't have called if I had any other choice", Steve shook Clint's hand as Eleanor moved over to the pair, shaking her limbs out to get rid of the numbness. Clint looked down and shook his head, "Hey man, you're doing me a favour. Besides", he gestured back to Wanda with his head who had also reached the group midway, "I owe a debt". Eleanor looked down briefly at the reference to Pietro's sacrifice but looked back up again to give Wanda a small smile, glad to know that she stood up for herself.

"Thanks for having my back", Steve spoke to Wanda who tilted her head slightly and looked at Clint. "It was time to get off my ass". Clint smiled and turned his attention to Eleanor who was standing idly beside Steve, "Hey kid, long time no see", he pulled her into a gripping hug that almost choked the life out of her, but she squeezed back with just as much gusto. She had only seen Clint once since his retirement, and after having gotten used to seeing him nearly every day for many years, it was a big change. "Nice to see you too old man", she laughed, earning a scoff from him, though when he pulled away there was clear amusement shining through his eyes.

As Steve and Clint started talking about the other recruit laying in the back of the van, Wanda caught Eleanor's attention and gestured for her to walk a few paces to the side with her for some privacy. Eleanor of course went along, knowing there wasn't a time to hesitate as there wasn't a lot of time as is considering they were being hunted down. "I'm sorry for ignoring you, it wasn't mature of me, especially with all that you and Nat have done for me over the last year". Eleanor gave a small half-smile and nodded, "It's okay-", she tried to start but got interrupted by the brunette.

"It's not okay I know that, I just felt guilty every time I saw you. Knowing that you had worked hard to try and give me a proper life after... everything, and I felt as though I was going against that by not choosing the side that you did".

Eleanor pursed her lips as her feet shuffled slightly as the air filled with awkwardness, "I don't care about which side you would have taken, I just didn't want you to push me away. But look, it's all water under the bridge now and there are bigger fish to fry, we're good, seriously". Wanda offered a tight-lipped smile showing that she was still unsure, but when Eleanor brought her in for a bone-crushing hug like Clint had done to the redhead earlier, all of the doubt faded away and she melted into it.

"What time zone is this?", they heard the tired voice of Scott Lang, making them both chuckle and pull away from the hug, Eleanor giving the younger woman a small pat on the back before walking over to the group again, Wanda closely following. Clint pushed him forward as the two women walked towards the archer, looking at how Scott was fanboying over Captain America in front of them. "Captain America!".

"Mr. Lang", Steve shook his hand, and Eleanor held back a laugh at how enthusiastic the handshake was thanks to Scott. "It's an honour", Lang spoke again whilst still shaking Steve's hand for a more than appropriate period of time. "I'm shaking your hand too long", he continued as Eleanor nodded behind him, "Wow, this is awesome", he turned around to the two women and pointed at Steve, "Captain America! And you're an original Avenger too!", he gestured to Eleanor who smiled.

"I know you too, you're great!", he gestured to Wanda this time, who offered up a grateful smile, and Eleanor could tell that she needed that compliment now more than ever. When he turned back to Steve he touched his shoulders and exhaled "Jeez", as he took in the super soldiers muscle mass. The smiles that rested on Wanda and Eleanor's faces soon turned into confused looks, the corner of their lips tugging back down to a more neutral look and their eyebrows ever so slightly furrowed. "Ah, look, I wanna say, I know you know a lot of superhero people, so thanks for thinking of me".

He sounded incredibly happy that Captain America had selected him, so Eleanor awkwardly rubbed the tip of her nose and looked away, not wanting to be the one to burst his bubble and say that it was actually Sam who had suggested him, and apparently Steve thought the same as he didn't bring it up. "Hey, man!", Scott pointed to Sam, working his way through the group. He reminded Eleanor of an excitable puppy.

"What's up Tictac".

Eleanor smiled at the nickname. It seemed fitting. "Uh, good to see you. Look, what happened last time...", Scott started but was cut off by Sam. "It was a great audition, but it'll- it'll never happen again", Sam gave a dry chuckle and shook his head. Eleanor looked over to Wanda, and almost jumped at seeing that the younger woman was already looking at her, but when she saw the expectant look of an explanation, Eleanor just shrugged, she didn't know what Sam was referencing either.

"They tell you what we're up against?", Steve brought the conversation back to the topic at hand. "Something about some psycho-assassins?", Scott replied, making Eleanor frown. "Hey dude that's my wife!", she gave an unimpressed look when he turned around with wide eyes and slowly turned back to face Steve who decided to brush past it to save time. "We're outside the law on this one, so if you come with us, you're a wanted man".

"Yeah, well, what else is new", was the response, making Eleanor's eyebrows shoot up. Who the hell was Scott Lang? "We should get moving", Bucky announced from his position of leaning against the tiny car. "We got a chopper lined up", Clint spoke up for the first time in a while, and as if like magic the overhead PA started going off with a man speaking in German. Which made sense considering they were in Berlin. "They're evacuating the airport", Bucky translated for them. "Stark", Sam confirmed, and now it made sense at why the carpark was relatively empty even before the official evacuation.

All Eleanor could think as Steve told them to suit up was that Natasha was not going to be happy that the group she had banded with had caused trouble within hours of it being formed. She grimaced as she made her way into the van with Wanda, throwing people's suits over to them before shutting the van doors with them on the inside for some privacy from the others whilst they got changed. It didn't take long to suit up as it had been drilled into them to do it within minutes back at the compound, so soon enough the van doors were being opened again with everyone in their suits. "We look very cool", Scott nodded with his hands on his hips as he took everyone in, not believing that he was standing with the Avengers.

"We need a plan", Eleanor heard Sam speak as she hopped out of the van after Wanda and shut the door, and started listening intently as Steve began laying out everyone's tasks and contingency plans. They had one shot to get this right or they would all be thrown in prison.

No pressure.
