《The Younger Agent - Natasha Romanoff x OC》Chapter 86 - Welcome To The Dark Side

James Barnes' psychological interview seemed to be going as expected. He wasn't getting angry and trying to break free from the hold inside of his cell, but he wasn't exactly answering the questions either, not wanting to open up to the psychologist sitting in front of him, which was understandable. Natasha and Eleanor were watching still hand in hand, brows knitted together slightly as they listened in to what was being said, trying to draw any conclusions of their own, but with the blunt answers, not much could be deducted.

Tony stood at their side listening in as well, with Steve and Sam still in the office behind them, presumably watching the same screens as the others. The interview had everyone's attention in a tight hold. The attack could have quite easily cost the lives of a couple of people standing in the room, so getting to the bottom of it wasn't just business, it was also personal.

With eyes beadily trained on the screens, the few minutes that the interview had been going for went incredibly fast, even with the lack of information. Though the attention was soon harshly dragged away from the interview, and back to what was going on in the room when the power went out, and the red overhead lights began flashing, making Eleanor feel uncomfortable as though she was in some kind of apocalyptic movie.

They squeezed each other's hands tighter as they looked around the room, unsure of what was going on. The fact that the CCTV cameras showing the interview were not working anymore was a cause for concern, the explanation that went through Eleanor's mind first was someone turning the power off so that Bucky could make an escape.

"Friday, get me a source of that outage", Tony spoke after pressing his glasses that were equipped with his new AI, since Jarvis was now in Vision. Natasha pulled her phone out to check for any news, but nothing was coming up, so she quickly pocketed and started guiding walking towards Tony, Eleanor being dragged along in the process. Tony shook his head with slightly raised eyebrows when Nat and Eleanor reached him, and the trio took off at a fast walking pace past the panicking officials trying to regain control of the situation.

"Please tell me you bought a suit", Nat stated as they practically jogged through the room. "Sure did. It's a lovely Tom Ford, three-piece, two button. I'm an active-duty, non-combatant".

Eleanor shook her head slightly and scrunched her nose up, "You got my hopes up for a sec there, Tones". Stark looked at her and shrugged, but before more words could be said, Sharon Carter zoomed past them at the edge of the room, "Follow me!". The trio looked at her incredulously, confused at the sudden action, but followed her anyway. She clearly had more of a scope on the situation than they did, it would be silly to go off on their own.

They followed Sharon onto another floor level, sprinting up the stairs in single file. Eleanor ended up being at the back, so was the last one to hear the commotion occurring on the floor that they had arrived on. Grunts echoed through the floor alongside metal clanging, clearly a fight occurring nearby. The Winter Soldier had escaped. "I've got my hand suit watch on", Tony mumbled as they slowly walked through the small hallway that came off of the stairs.

"Okay, you go through and we'll come in after, stay on comms", Sharon handed each of them an earpiece which they promptly wore. Tony gave them a small nod and carried forward, whilst Nat, Sharon, and Eleanor skirted along the sides, trying not to be seen and finding a good position.

A concrete pillar seemed like a good place to stay out of the way, so that was the place that they picked. "We're in position", Nat spoke into her earpiece once they were all ready.

Blasts could be clearly heard coming from the middle of the room, and Eleanor winced when a gunshot could be heard, so poked her head around and saw that Tony had luckily blocked the shot with his metal hand. The hand-to-hand combat didn't last long, which was expected, so Sharon took it in her stride to go forward and engage instead, Nat following promptly. "Stay here for backup", she pushed Eleanor back slightly who had also made a move to follow.

"But-", Eleanor went to protest, but Natasha was already off, so all she could do was watch the scene as she chewed on her lips. Instinctively she reached up to touch the scar that was on her face, the large cut still prominent from her fight with the Winter Soldier all those years ago.

Natasha and Sharon fought expertly together, sending multiple harsh blows that were clearly causing pain, but when Sharon was thrown into a table it was up to Natasha to do the next hits, Eleanor surged forward as she watched Natasha manoeuvre her way onto his shoulders and start punching at his head, seemingly doing no damage. He moved forward and tossed her down onto the table, attempting to choke the life out of her as he wrapped his metal arm around her throat.

At this point Eleanor was close, and jumped forward towards him, ramming him with her shoulder. He went flying to the side as he lost his balance. Anger seared through him when he regained it, and turned to Eleanor and began to march forward. She took a step back to calculate her next move, though the only move that she needed to do was jump out of the way to the side as T'Challa was now running at him. She moved out of the way just in time before the King of Wakanda kicked Bucky's back, which sent him flying past Eleanor.

Whilst the fight between the two continued, Eleanor looked over to Nat who was gasping for breath and moved forward in large strides to reach her. "Are you okay?", she rushed out whilst helping Nat into a seating position and then back onto the floor as she coughed her lungs up. "I'm fine", she croaked out once her breath had almost come back to her, and placed a hand on Eleanor's shoulder. T'Challa and Bucky disappeared up the stairs during the time it took the small group to recouperate, so Sharon, Natasha, Eleanor, and Tony went outside knowing that they would not win this particular battle. The Winter Soldier was far too strong and they were not prepared.

The outside was bustling with people screaming as they tried to escape, and somehow in the chaos, Sharon saw some of her coworkers in the distance. "We should go speak to them, tell them what's going on, they might be able to set up a more direct perimeter", she said out of breath from the fighting and running. The others agreed and so they walked forward, but Eleanor was stopped by someone grabbing her wrist.

She whipped around in a panic, immediately thinking that it was a threat. But she breathed out a sigh of relief when she saw Sam. "Jeez Wilson you scared the shit out of me", she tugged her hand away from him and took a step back. "I'm sorry", he stepped forward to close the distance, "We need help".

Eleanor tilted her head and frowned, "You're in no position to ask for that, you breached the accords on day one, I can't help you", she sighed, hating that she was having to turn her friend down. Sam was a good guy, whether the accords thought so or not. "No, look, you said that you would sign the accords on the premise that you would follow along until something desperately needed to be dealt with even if the United Nations said you couldn't. Correct?".

"Correct", Eleanor responded through gritted teeth, not liking where this was going, and when she turned her head she could see Natasha looking over at her, trying to read the situation with Sam. "Okay, so", Sam brought Eleanor's attention back to him, "The kill wasn't Bucky, and the psychologist who spoke to him is the one who brainwashed him again, there is something bigger at play here, we just know it. But we need more hands on deck, and for as long as I've known you you're not exactly the one to abide by every rule", he gave a small smirk as Eleanor bit her lip in thought.

If there is something bigger at play here then it could be a return of HYDRA or another form of it, but there was no way that the UN would believe Bucky didn't make the kill. It really did seem like a situation where she needed to take her hands off of the wheel. Though it would mean that she would breach the accords and become a fugitive, which wasn't great. And Natasha. She would be leaving Natasha.

"El, I need an answer now, we have to try and find the psychologist guy, he got away", he held up a jacket in his arms that had belonged to whoever was doing the interview with Bucky. She nodded, earning a smile from Sam who started walking forward. She followed, but not without looking over at Nat first who had a pleading look in her eyes before her expression went rock solid, shaking her head as a warning.

Eleanor pursed her lips as voices came through on comms whilst she continued walking, "El, what the hell are you doing", Nat half-shouted down the line, followed by an "If you walk away with him El we can't protect you", from Tony. Both of them sounded desperate.

"There's something big going on, I need you to trust me. I love you, Nat. I'm sorry", she spoke back softly before taking out the earpiece and tossing it to the floor, making sure to stand on it. Panic flooded through Natasha when she heard the static feedback. She moved forward to try and reach where she had seen Eleanor and Sam, but the crowds were too big and no matter how many times she frantically scanned the area she couldn't find them. Eleanor was gone and she couldn't do anything to stop the consequences.

---

Eleanor and Sam had run down the street to get away from the crowds, and to hopefully find a place to meet up with Steve, potentially Bucky too all being well. They ended up crouching behind some dumpsters whilst Sam tried to reach contact with Steve. Eleanor spent the time pinching her nose to try and not breathe in the pungent aroma coming from the bins. It took about ten minutes to get ahold of Steve, who according to Sam sounded very out of breath. He had managed to get Bucky, unconscious, and hijacked an old car, all he needed was Sam and Eleanor's location to collect them as well.

It was another further five minutes before Steve appeared around the corner of the back alley that the two were hiding in, and after losing a game of rock, paper, scissors, Sam clambered into the back and Eleanor took her rightfully won place in the passenger's seat. Sam grumbled for the first few minutes about having to be seated next to an unconscious, unhinged super soldier as they weren't sure if Bucky was back or not, but he shut up once Bucky made a sound in his slumber, effectively scaring the Falcon into silence.

"So, Sam managed to recruit you for our manhunt then?", Steve finally turned to Eleanor. "It seems to be a situation that requires help from outside of the UN, so... yes", Eleanor sighed and looked out of the window, still deeply unhappy with the situation. She left Natasha behind, which she promised that she would never, ever, do. Now she didn't know how she was going to live with herself or face her wife when she was going to be thrown in jail. She felt sick to her stomach at how this was all playing out. She just hoped with all of her might that if they succeeded Natasha would see why she did what she did, and hopefully forgive her.

Steve sent a sympathetic smile her way, knowing that even though he was happy to have got her on his side to help, it would be hard for her, and there's no going back from the repercussions of this. He just had to keep driving and get to a safe place, it was all he could do for the time being. Meanwhile, Eleanor was on her phone turning off any means of being able to track or communicate with her. If she was going fully on the run then she would have tossed the phone out of the window as the programming to not track wasn't foolproof, but with everything going on, if they needed help then they would be able to make contact.

Before they knew it they had arrived at an old warehouse. Eleanor tilted her head momentarily and shrugged, it was inconspicuous enough. She got out of the car and watched as the two supported a still unconscious Bucky, leading him into a room with some machinery and a construction vehicle in it. Eleanor kept close behind them as they sat him down next to the vehicle. There was still an element of fear as Bucky could wake up at any moment and attack them again, so Sam gestured to the vehicle which had a part that was like a metal mouth, it could open and close, so he suggested trapping his metal arm in there.

"Sure", Eleanor nodded and hotwired the vehicle, opening the mouth so that Steve could manoeuvre the arm in, before closing it and turning off the engine. Now all that they could do was wait. Steve walked off to another room, and Eleanor decided to follow closely behind. The Winter Soldier was terrifying and out of all three of them, Steve was the only one who stood a chance if it came down to fighting again. Sam opted to stay in the room and keep watch, stating that he would alert them when he woke up.

So, Steve and Eleanor sat in a comfortable silence across the other side of the warehouse, trying to get to grips with everything that had happened today, Nat's panicked face flashing through Eleanor's mind.
