《The Younger Agent - Natasha Romanoff x OC》Chapter 79 - Coffee Tripping

2016-
Even with the chaotic training days that the team had where the universe seemed to be against them, the group managed to band together and become a team that worked efficiently. It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get to the point where they could say that they were safe to go on missions.
Steve, Nat, and Eleanor were used to training new recruits. During Steve's time in the military, he learnt a lot about training, and Natasha and Eleanor used to conduct a lot of training sessions during their SHIELD days. However, training enhanced beings and people in suits was a lot different to training new agents.
In SHIELD training consisted of workouts, admin, and things like programming. These were all things that still needed to be drilled into the four new people's heads, but their physical training was a whole new ballgame. With Wanda, the two women still taught her hand-to-hand combat, but she didn't need to go into as much depth as they did, she had power enhancements and so most of the focus went on learning how to control those in an incredibly precise way. It was new terrain for everyone to be walking on, but success was achieved - which led to the first big mission.
Lagos, Nigeria.
It didn't require the whole team, most missions don't. Unless there is a world-ending disaster, the people most appropriate for the job are picked. In this case, it happened to be Steve, Nat, Eleanor, Wanda, and Sam. The remaining people weren't the best for a stealth mission.
This one seemed like a personal one. Brock Rumlow from the STRIKE team, HYDRA scum, had been on the move. He didn't die in the Triskelion like they had thought he had, and now went by the name Crossbones and had a group of lackeys supporting him. Steve had been working on tracking him for months and had managed to intercept some communications which showed that a police station in Lagos was their next robbery target after completing a string of them.
The three women of the team were placed inside of a cafe to try and scope out the street ahead, whilst Steve was placed inside of an apartment and Sam was on a roof.
Eleanor sat with Natasha at a small table, both wearing sunglasses to remain inconspicuous to anyone who may recognise them, and Wanda sat by herself at a table behind them, all three with coffees in front of them to blend in. Eleanor planned to sit back slightly with this mission, it was the first big one other than fieldwork that Wanda was going on, so it was agreed that she take some of the lead to test what she had learnt. That wasn't to say that Eleanor was not going to be aware of and take in her surroundings, she just wouldn't voice them unless absolutely necessary.
So, she looked at her coffee as she took occasional sips, all whilst taking in what was going on in her peripheral, occasionally taking a full glance.
"All right, what do you see?", Steve's voice came through their earpieces, making Eleanor take another quick look around just in case Wanda didn't make the correct conclusions.
In the corner of her eye, she could see Wanda in a cap attempting to look around subtly before looking back to her coffee "Standard beat cops. Small station. Quiet street. It's a good target". Eleanor allowed herself to smirk slightly as she brought her coffee up to her lips to take a tiny sip so that she didn't drink it all. Good answers.

"There's an ATM on the south corner, which means?".
"Cameras", Wanda swiftly answered, making Eleanor raise her eyebrows slightly at Nat who had briefly looked over at her. Natasha had to purse her lips slightly as she turned away to stop a smile from forming on her face.
"Both cross streets are one-way".
Eleanor had full faith in the new trainee now, so continued looking around and building her own judgements. The people outside looked jolly and talkative which was nice to see, seeing other people happy can sometimes spark a warm feeling. But she didn't let herself get distracted by it, and kept her main focus, when she did briefly look over, at the police station. "So, compromised escape routes", Wanda responded.
"Means our guy doesn't care about being seen. He isn't afraid to make a mess on the way out". Eleanor did a small, unnoticeable nod at Steve's words as she continued to peer out of the window, avoiding Nat's gaze knowing that she would end up breaking her blank mask. "You see that Range Rover halfway up the block?".
"Yeah the red one? It's cute". Eleanor scanned the car with her eyes and Natasha voiced her realisation.
"It's also bulletproof, which means private security which means more guns, which means more headaches for somebody. Probably us", Natasha spoke in fast succession whilst lifting her coffee mug to her lips.
One side of Eleanor's lips tugged up into a smile as she patted her jacket pocket, "I got the pain meds don't worry", she too brought her cup up to her mouth.
Natasha spoke whilst concealing it with a cough, "Grand". Yet again, Eleanor looked around to avoid looking at Nat whilst rubbing her fingers on the side of her coffee cup.
"You guys know I can move things with my mind, right?".
"Looking over your shoulder needs to become second nature", Nat replied to Wanda, in any other situation Eleanor would have called her a party pooper, but she was right. That was the sole reason that the two had worked to give Wanda some physical self-defence skills instead of just relying on her powers.
She turned her head towards Nat who was smiling at Wanda before Sam interrupted the small cafe interaction. "Anybody tell you you're a little paranoid?".
"Not to my face. Why? Did you hear something?". Even though Eleanor wasn't looking directly at her wife, she could sense the smirk from a mile away.
Though apparently, Steve wasn't too happy with the joking around that was occurring during the middle of the mission, he wasn't the type to mess about during work, never had been. Even back in 2014 when they were going to New Jersey and could sit in the car and relax for a while. "Eyes on target, folks. This is the best lead we've had on Rumlow in six months I don't wanna lose him".
Sam scoffed whilst Eleanor rolled her eyes and dumped more sugar into her coffee, the little sugar packets they give out are just too small. "If he sees us coming, that won't be a problem. He kinda hates us". Eleanor thought back to when they dropped a helicarrier on the guy's head and had to agree with Sam, it's a valid thing to hold a grudge over.
There was a moment of silence where the three in the cafe just kept up their hidden profiles before Steve spoke again, "Sam... see that garbage truck? Tag it". Sam had a little red drone that could come out of the back of the wings part of his suit, cleverly named "Red Wing". It was actually a very handy drone that could give them a lot of information, similar to how Jarvis worked with Stark. The only problem was how much Sam was attached to it.

Another moment of silence appeared as they waited for Sam to finish conducting scans with red-wing. No one was quite sure why Steve was so interested in the garbage truck as they didn't have a visual, but it must have been something important as Steve is very scrutinising, he wouldn't waste time on a dead-end. "That truck's loaded for max weight, and the driver's armed".
Eleanor frowned and shifted in her seat slightly, that wasn't a good development. "It's a battering ram", Nat breathed out.
"Go now".
Wanda snapped her head up, not able to keep up with the new situation, "Why?".
"They have a different target", Eleanor downed the remaining coffee and stood with the other two before they rushed out of the door.
Civilians around them seemed to be confused at why they were acting so brashly, but they didn't have time to care. If Rumlow was using a battering ram then he must be planning to raid somewhere that is heavily guarded. "Where is he headed?", Nat spoke into her earpiece as the three of them sped-walked down the road.
"IFID Headquarters, six blocks east of your post".
Nat and Eleanor felt themselves slow down slightly as they gave each other cautious looks before speeding back up again, which did not go unnoticed by Wanda.
"What is IFID?", she turned to face the other two with her brows furrowed.
"Institute for Infectious Diseases", Eleanor spoke loudly whilst looking around the streets as they continued walking, "We need to get there ASAP". Wanda nodded as a red light began to appear around her hands, "Be careful", Eleanor sternly got her attention, and the younger woman nodded before taking flight.
The other two continued walking as they pocketed their sunglasses, trying to find a ride that they could... borrow. The street that they had ended up wandering into was busier than where the cafe was, so it was a lot harder to pinpoint whether there was anything nearby that they could use for their own benefit.
"Over there!", Nat half-shouted and gestured towards a motorbike on the side of the road. Eleanor grinned and nodded as she followed her wife across the road, trying not to get run over by some cars that were crossing their path. Both knew how to ride a motorbike, but Nat loved her bikes, so Eleanor hung back to let Nat hop on first and get it started up without the keys.
It only took a few seconds before she heard the engine roar to life and then Natasha revving the vehicle, signalling for Eleanor to hop on, to which she swiftly did. She was barely on, only holding on with one hand, when Nat lunged the bike forward and did a harsh 180 turn, leaving tire marks on the road.
Eleanor thought that she was going to fall off, so let out a squeak as she placed her other hand on Nat's waist, interlocking it with her other one on Natasha's stomach. "You okay back there?".
"Other than nearly being thrown off I'm doing swell!". Nat shook her head slightly with a smirk as she continued manoeuvring through the traffic towards the Headquarters.
The wind whipped through them as Natasha increased her speed, and once again in classic Nat style, she didn't tie her hair up. Wanda didn't either which is a habit that she seemed to get from Nat, but Eleanor always tied her hair back if she could. But, due to Nat not having her hair tied back at the high speeds, her hair was whipping right into Eleanor's face.
"Body armour, AR-15s", Steve spoke, clearly having dealt with enough of the goons to shed some light on the situation, "I make seven hostiles".
"I make five", Sam spoke after a minute, though Eleanor was mainly focused on not choking on the mass of hair flying at her.
"Sam!", she heard Wanda grunt out before the Falcon confirmed that there were now four hostiles in the area and that Rumlow was on the third floor, not that that meant much to the two women on the motorbike at the time.
"Wanda, just like we practised", Steve said, which launched Eleanor into another flashback of walking into the training room and seeing Wanda launching Steve into a concrete wall during practice. She had come a long way though. Hopefully, Steve wouldn't be turned into Captain Pancake. Hopefully. "Rumlow has a biological weapon", the two women heard as they neared the building, seeing armoured cars and men with guns surrounding the entrance.
"We're on it", Nat replied before turning her head back slightly and yelling, "Jump off!" at Eleanor, whose eyes widened in horror before she complied when they were a few metres away. She tossed herself off of the side, trying not to push the bike in any way that would make Nat swerve, and landed harshly on the ground and rolled into a curb. "Ow", she groaned as she rubbed her shoulder and watched Nat pull the brakes on the bike, allowing it to hit the floor and smash into one of the guards as she jumped up and ran forward.
Eleanor got on her knees and scrambled up onto her feet to run forward towards Nat who had started the fight. She stumbled on her first step but quickly found her footing as she bounded towards the armed guards that her wife was currently beating up.
Whilst Natasha kicked a door into one of them to move on to the next one, Eleanor jumped on the back of one that was approaching Nat from behind and twisted her body to send them both crashing into the hood of the truck. She rolled over it and onto the other side, booting another one in the jaw before hopping down. She moved around the corner to try and get back to Nat but was ambushed by another two men, just as Natasha was grabbed by Rumlow.
Eleanor tried to get to her but the harsh grip on her elbow prevented her. Fuelled with rage at seeing Nat being manhandled, she kicked the guy in front of her in the knee, hard, hearing a snap as he screamed in pain. Ripping her elbow out of grip, she then elbowed the other in the jaw, before grabbing him by his armour and throwing him onto the other guard.
Just as she made a move to run back to the truck, the thing exploded. "Shit", Eleanor went wide-eyed and hoped that she hadn't just watched her wife get blown up right before her eyes. With speed, she bolted around to the other side of the van and breathed out a heavy sigh of relief when she saw Natasha on the floor coughing and wheezing her lungs up.
"Hey, you're okay, you're okay", she reassured as she helped Nat into a sitting position and smacked her on the back a few times to get her lungs going again.
Nat nodded as she got rid of the last of the smoke from within her system and used Eleanor as a crutch to stand.
"Sam, he's in an AFV heading North". At Steve's words, Nat gestured to the motorbike with her head and had a knowing grin on her face, causing Eleanor to scoff and hurry over to stand the bike back up so that Nat could hop on again.
This time Nat gave Eleanor a brief moment to cling on before speeding away, though the hair was still an issue, but Eleanor solved it by placing her forehead against Nat's mid-back. Even with the high tensions Nat still felt warmth spreading through her chest at the contact.
But her attention was placed back on the mission when Sam spoke again, "I've got four, they're splitting up". Nat couldn't increase the speed of the motorbike, much to her dismay, as she was already going at the maximum speed she could whilst darting in and out of civilians. Eleanor was glad that her face was pressed against Natasha's back as it meant that she couldn't see the number of times that Nat nearly ran someone over.
"I need you to hop off again in a sec, El". Eleanor huffed but looked for a safe opening. There was a hoard of cars in front of them so she aimed to roll sideways onto one of the bonnets. She aimed in rolling... but not onto the bonnet.
She looked like a limp fish as she flopped onto the edge of the bonnet and onto the concrete. It took a few seconds for her brain to catch up to her, so she lay on the floor looking completely dazed as Nat expertly stood up off of the bike and onto some cars in front of her.
"We got the two on the left!", Nat shouted as she began her sprint.
Eleanor stood and put a weak thumbs up to agree with Nat whilst also acknowledging the slight abandonment occurring, and began hurdling over the few cars in front of her to reach her wife. Grumbling the entire way about considering early retirement.
