《The Younger Agent - Natasha Romanoff x OC》Chapter 60 - Bird Down

"Shit!", Tony yelled into everyone's earpieces.
"Language!", Cap yelled back, making Eleanor give a look of incredulity at the tree in front of her, almost as if it was a camera in the sitcom of her life. "Jarvis what's the view from upstairs?".
Jarvis satellites had been installed to aid them in missions, making the already very useful AI companion, even better. It had been very useful when entering bases as they could see heat signatures for the whole area, alerting them of different traps and areas where there was a larger population of workers.
"The central building is protected by some kind of energy shield", the AI's voice came through on comms, "Strucker's technology is well beyond any other HYDRA base we've taken". That news wasn't too great, some HYDRA bases were hard enough to take down without the advanced technology.
The three spies had been continuing to do a mixture of running and fighting during Jarvis' explanation. Eleanor was quite chuffed with herself when she was chased towards a tree by multiple guards coming at her from multiple directions, so instead of swerving, jumped onto it and pushed herself backwards with her feet, doing a backflip over the guard. When in mid-air she grabbed his shoulders and harshly yanked him down before shooting at the others.
Unfortunately, no one was looking at her, so she swore under her breath as she continued running.
"Loki's scepter must be here. Strucker couldn't mount this defence without it", Thor spoke. "At long last", he continued with a deeper voice.
Eleanor watched as Natasha threw a grenade onto a truck and then launched herself over some sandbags, kicking a guard away in the process as she narrowly avoided a laser blast. She rolled her eyes at watching her wife seemingly run into the blast zone, so with a nod of the head from Clint, sprinted after her. She somehow gained even more speed even though she had already been sprinting at her fastest.
When Eleanor saw two guards approaching Natasha she pulled her gun out but was stopped when she saw Natasha throw herself onto the shoulders of one, and use her hands to grab onto the other one as she threw herself to the floor along with the two in her grasp. A sickening snap could be heard before Nat got up, "'At long last' is lasting a little long, boys".
"Yeah. I think we lost the element of surprise", Clint spoke from somewhere nearby.
Blasts upon blasts were being fired at them in this area, and more guards seemed to be pouring toward them. "You think?!", Eleanor yelled as she threw herself to the floor, narrowly missing a blast.
"Honey, you got a little something...", Nat chuckled as she shuffled towards her wife on the floor, a few strands of hair smoking from being singed.
"Uh-huh", she responded, standing up to shoot some of the jetpack guys that were flying towards them.
As the two women made more advancements on the oncoming wave of guards Tony had a mistimed revelation, "Wait a second. No one else is gonna deal with the fact that Cap just said 'Language'?".
"I know", Steve responded with a small gap filled with explosions, "Just slipped out".
The battle raged on, everyone was beginning to struggle at the onslaught of blasts and bullets. But they continued.
As Eleanor saw a tank and a jetpacked guard coming towards them, she had a stupid lightbulb moment. "Gimme a boost!", she yelled to Nat.
"What?".
"A boost", she clarified. Nat looked at her like she was crazy but still bent down slightly and cupped her hands together. Eleanor ran at her and placed a foot into Natasha's hands, who promptly turned herself slightly and lifted her arms to launch Eleanor into the sky.

She watched with concern as Eleanor flew through the air and landed on the guard who couldn't get out of the way in time. She gripped onto the guard as though she was a koala and manoeuvred herself to be hanging onto their back. Nat honestly had no clue what she was attempting to do, but as she took shot after shot at the guards around her whilst keeping an eye on what was happening in the sky, she saw Eleanor tinkering with the jetpack before pushing away from the guy with force.
Due to the lack of control from Eleanor breaking jetpack, he went barrelling directly into the tank in the distance, blowing it up along with the cars next to it. There was a split second where Nat was impressed before she looked up and also saw Eleanor hurtling to the ground.
She winced as she watched her flying into a wall of sandbags, but smiled when she saw her jump up shouting "I'm okay!", before getting back into action.
"You're out of your mind", Nat ran over to her.
"But you love me", Eleanor teased, Natasha hummed in agreement as they yet again ran forward, trying their hardest to make headway at getting into the base.
"Well, we know Strucker's not gonna worry about civilian casualties. Send in the Iron Legion". The Iron Legion was a group of Iron Man suits controlled by an AI that helped in battles where they were outnumbered. None of the heroes were able to go into the nearby town where explosions were apparently happening, so the Iron Legion was sent in for control.
The women continued as normal until they heard Clint nearby groan out in pain after hearing another laser blast. "Clint!", Nat shouted as they immediately took off to get to him, praying that he was okay.
"We have an enhanced in the field", Steve spoke relatively calmly considering the information. That was just what they needed, a hoard of guards with advanced technology, and a superpowered person. It also brought a new concern to light: how the hell does HYDRA have an enhanced being?
"Clint's hit!", Natasha yelled into her earpiece as they got near.
Natasha dropped down to the floor next to him as Eleanor stood, sending bullets at anyone who tried to come nearby. The wound really did not look good. It was huge and went incredibly deep, it did look extremely painful. Eleanor couldn't help but grimace.
"Somebody wanna deal with that bunker?", Nat had clearly had enough of blasts going over their head as she tried to tend to Clint's injury. Eleanor almost jumped out of her skin when Hulk suddenly landed nearby and smashed his way through the bunker containing the laser cannon. "Thank you", she responded in a sweet voice, the complete opposite reaction to Eleanor who was still trying to get her heart rate in check.
"Stark, we really need to get inside", Steve sounded like he was in the middle of throwing multiple hits at people.
"I'm closing in". A few seconds later he sounded unsure, "Jarvis, am I closing in? Do you see a power source for that shield?".
"There's a particle-wave below the North tower", the AI responded to the Iron Man.
"Great, I wanna poke it with something". Only a few seconds later he continued, "The drawbridge is down people".
"Finally", Eleanor exhaled, "Took your time Stark", she jeered.
"I'd love to see you do any better Infinity Spy".
"Eternal Agent, it's Eternal Agent", she muttered under her breath whilst shooting, still not sold on the name.

"This is no use", Nat said off comms and shook her head as she was failing to treat the wound, ignoring the conversation that had just occurred, she then pressed her hand onto her earpiece, "Clint's hit pretty bad, guys. We're gonna need evac".
Eleanor took a light jog back over to them as she had been drawn away slightly by a hoard of guards, and yet again grimaced at the wound that was looking a lot worse compared to when she had last seen it.
"I can get Barton to the jet. The sooner we're gone, the better". There was a small conversation between Thor and Steve as they fought off some guards before he told Steve to "Find the Scepter", presumably he was on his way to grab Clint.
"And for Gosh's sake, watch your language!", Tony chimed in, and Eleanor could practically see the sigh and eye-roll that Cap would have given.
It took only a few seconds before Thor showed up and landed with a thud nearby, once again scaring the crap out of Eleanor. "People really need to not do that", she mumbled causing Natasha to playfully roll her eyes, and Eleanor just shrugged at her.
The God of Thunder picked up Clint and nodded at the two women before taking off in flight with the man in his arms being carried in bridal style. "Wonder where they're gonna go for their honeymoon?", Nat joked as she nudged Eleanor's shoulder, trying to distract them both from being worried about their friend.
"Well, I don't know about you, but I heard Sokovia is just lovely this time of year", she grinned before spotting more guards. Both women pulled their guns out and aimed, but after only getting a couple of shots in, the Iron Legion showed up to give them a hand.
The guards immediately surrendered to the bots, so Eleanor let out a breath of relief. The number of explosions around had decreased showing that they had made a dent in Strucker's army, and with Tony inside of the building along with Steve, it seemed that the battle was nearly over and that they would get to go home.
"We're locked down out here", Natasha informed the others.
"Then get to Banner. Time for a lullaby", Steve's voice came through. Natasha was the one person that Hulk seemed to be reluctant to murder for some reason. One time Eleanor tried to approach him when Natasha was busy somewhere else when raiding another HYDRA base, and he threw a car at her. She would have been a pancake if Steve hadn't ploughed into the car mid-air and sent it off course.
After that incident, they made sure that only Natasha go near. It made Eleanor nervous that she was so near Banner in his Hulk state after nearly every mission, but so far she hadn't been flattened so she could only hope that it would stay like that.
Eleanor was also uncomfortable with it for another reason. Natasha didn't seem to notice, and if she did then she didn't make it clear, but Bruce would send longing looks toward Nat in social situations and seemed to dislike Eleanor slightly even though the two rarely shared words.
But Natasha seemed to be friends with him, she would sometimes walk into the kitchen as they were talking, though Bruce would soon get quiet when Eleanor entered and Nat's face lit up. She tried not to let it bother her though, Natasha had been someone with very few genuine friends in her life, so if she got along with someone on the team she didn't want to pull them apart. She trusted her wife anyway, even though her heart yelled at her to tell Bruce to fuck off whenever he sent questionable looks toward an unknowing Natasha.
"I'll meet you back at the jet, okay?", Natasha snapped Eleanor out of her thoughts with a soft smile and eyes that shone whenever they looked at each other.
"Yeah, be careful", Eleanor pecked her lips and gave her arm a quick squeeze before they parted ways.
"Always!", Nat smirked and shouted over her shoulder as she began jogging over to Banner.
Eleanor started speed-walking over to the jet, not wanting to run and exert more energy but also not wanting to be taking a leisurely stroll. Just as her mind had begun to release itself from 'mission mode' Steve spoke again, "We have a second enhanced. Female. Do not engage".
Her walls went back up and she looked around as though the enhanced individual would be there, even though she knew at this point she was at least two miles out from the main building. She shook her head and continued at a jog this time as Steve carried on talking, "Guys, I got Strucker".
"Yeah, I got something bigger". Eleanor didn't know what Tony was going on about, until a few seconds later, "Thor, I got eyes on the prize". She assumed he was talking about the Scepter.
When the jet was in sight, she took off at a sprint towards it, finally glad that there would hopefully be no more fights, the Scepter was with Tony, Strucker was demobilised, and the enhanced individuals had seemingly backed off.
Entering she saw Clint still groaning in pain on a medical bed with Thor standing a few paces away looking over with worry. "Hey Katniss", she cooed as she got into Clint's eye line, and he groaned but for reasons not relating to his injury. "How you holding up?".
"I was doing better about... five seconds ago".
"Rude", she deadpanned as she examined the wound, again it looked worse, "You'll be okay". She looked at him with genuine concern with a mix of determination, so he bit back the jokes and smiled with a nod whilst trying to affectionately give her wrist a pat in thanks but the movement hurt so he just groaned again instead, making Eleanor frown. "Arms at your sides, Barton", her voice was serious but her face showed amusement, trying to keep Clint less on edge.
"Yes, ma'am".
Soon enough the Avengers had begun filtering in, Natasha came in with Banner and immediately came over to Clint and Eleanor, wrapping an arm around her wife's waist as she also examined Clint's wound. Eleanor did not miss the weird look that Bruce had when being left. But when his face contorted into a familiar one of guilt, she couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for the guy, he hated turning into the Hulk. It was an uncomfortable experience and he hated losing control.
"How's the weak link doing?", Natasha said in a soft tone, contradicting her words. Eleanor laughed as Clint looked at her with his jaw dropped ever so slightly but with a smile added in.
"What is it with you two kicking me when I'm down?", he joked back.
"It's the way of the world, Birdbrain", Eleanor tried to explain to him as Nat nodded her head in agreement.
He looked as though he was going to say something in protest but Natasha interrupted, "And how are you doing?", she turned her head to Eleanor.
"I think I'm okay, twinged my back a little though, think it was from when I body slammed those sandbags". Nat frowned and pouted slightly as she began rubbing soothing circles onto Eleanor's back, it was a pretty nasty fall.
"What about you? Are you o-".
"She gets more compassion for a pulled muscle than I do for this?!", he would have waved his arms around if he could, but unfortunately, he couldn't.
"I made a vow", Natasha stated as though it was obvious, but when Clint's face scrunched up in even more disbelief she continued, "In sickness and in health, back pain is considered a health issue, so it is my law binding duty to help", she tried to keep a straight face but ended up smirking towards the end, making Clint bark out a short laugh and shake his head.
"It's true, and especially as I'm getting too old for this it's even more reason to check in", Eleanor spoke up again.
"Yeah, you are getting pretty old".
Eleanor whipped her head around to face Natasha with fake offence plastered on her face, "You're the one who's in her thirties, I still have a couple of years left", she ended her statement with a small hip bump.
Nat just threw her head back slightly and groaned, "Don't remind me". After a moment of silence and genuinely making sure that Clint was feeling okay, Natasha announced that she would help a couple of the others at the front of the jet, so that left Eleanor and Clint alone.
She pulled up a chair next to the med bed so that she would be able to sit next to him. When she noticed that he seemed uncomfortable she repositioned some of his pillows slightly as he had moved them with all of the thrashing around. "Thanks", he softly thanked her, even with all of the joking they were family at the end of the day.
She smiled and nodded as she sat down again, "Not a problem".

8 136The Animo Saga
Before history was well-recorded in the world of Ulakam, primordial animal spirits adopted humans, provided protection and developed deep spiritual connections with them. Millennia later, humans now host animal spirits and are split into tribes named for the species they host. Ulakam is slowly being consumed by a decades-long war pitting the main tribes against the smaller tribes and a group of bandits calling themselves "the resistance". Callida Animo was born into this world. Coming from a mixed family of generational soldiers, Callida joined the family business at a young age. In her words, she was practically bred, born, and raised to be a soldier. And she's good at what she does... which inevitably attracts attention that makes her unambitious self extremely uncomfortable. Love, loss, influence and growth. This is her story. Written episodically, this story focuses on relationships and character growth through a series of mini-arcs that connect to make a greater whole. (Honestly, the story would lend itself well to a TV series.) "Episodes" range from 3-7 chapters (at least so far), and average about 4 or 5 chapters. Author's note: I'm always thrilled to receive comments, follows, ratings/reviews, messages.... All forms of feedback are welcome and encouraged. However, I have no interest in begging readers for more engagement to get better visibility. I tried that with my last story and found the game soul-sucking. So! This constitutes my only self-promotion request. If you are reading this story, let me know what you think! I love engaging with my readers. We'll see if growing the readership organically is even possible. Thank you! 😘 Release schedule: Weekly on Wednesday afternoons
